Sarah Paulson Talks Her Romance With Holland Taylor: “Maybe There’s Something Brave In It”

Many words have been used in regard to Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor’s romance. Now, the actress is sharing a few of her own.

Paulson – who is usually very private about her long-time relationship with the fellow actress, Taylor – has opened up a touch more about her safely guarded personal life – and why it is that way.

In a new interview with NET-A-PORTER’s The EDIT, Paulson revealed she heard the same opinions that the likes of Amber Heard and Ezra Miller have spoken about when it came to their dating choices – that it would hurt her career.

Talking to Town & Country, she explained

“I do not want to be defined by who I share my bed, my home, my soul with. My choices in life have been unconventional, and that’s my business.”

However, she does acknowledge what being public with her private life can do for others watching.

“I do want to live responsibly and truthfully without hiding. It’s complicated, because there is a lot of hate in this world, and a lot of good can come from quote-unquote normalizing something for people who don’t see it as normal. Our relationship represents a certain amount of hope and risk. Maybe there’s something brave in it. Maybe it encourages others to make brave choices.”

As the Golden Globe winner quickly learned, not everyone’s reaction to her relationship would match her’s.

She previously told The EDIT, that she heard the same opinions that the likes of Amber Heard and Ezra Miller have spoken about when it came to their dating choices – that it would hurt her career.

“My life choices are, um, unconventional. I’m with a much older person and people find that totally fascinating and odd, and, to me, it’s the least interesting thing about me. But I do feel a bit unconventional.

Early on, when people found out I was with Holland, some said: ‘I think you have to be careful, I’m afraid it’s going to affect your career negatively’. I was like, what? It never occurred to me at all.”

In fact, Paulson revealed that she even questioned whether she should publicly address her girlfriend during her Emmy’s speech, while accepting the award for her portrayal of Marcia Clarke in The People vs OJ Simpson.

“It occurred to me, should I not do that? And then I thought, why would I not? The fact I’m having this thought is wrong. But I had a moment of societal concern; wondering if, maybe, people who didn’t know that about me would be like, wait, what? But then, you know, I did it anyway.”

Amber Heard Talks Coming Out As Bisexual: “I Became Attached to a Label

Amber Heard has talked about her queerness at the The Economist’s annual Pride & Prejudice conference in New York this week.

Heard – who first publicly discussed her sexual orientation for the first time in 2010 – had some interesting thoughts to share on her queerness.

I just answered honestly. I could tell by the look on this person’s face it was a big deal. My poor publicist. Then I realized the gravity of what I had done and why so many people—studio execs, agents, advisors—did not want this coming before my name. I became attached to a label. I’ve never seen myself defined by the person I’m with.

I saw myself being in this unique position and having a unique responsibility. So, I bit the bullet.”

Heard was told having the word “bisexual” attached to her name was problematic.

As a leading lady, there’s a certain amount of wish fulfillment. I was asked ‘How is anyone going to invest in you romantically if they think you’re unavailable?’ I said, ‘Watch me do it.'”

I never have seen myself as defined by the person I’m with, the same way you’re not defined by the hair color of your partner—I never saw myself defined as one particular thing or not… I watched as I quickly became not actress Amber Heard, but out lesbian Amber Heard.”

Heard also says she is proud to see other actors in Hollywood coming out.

I stand here now amongst many of my romantic leading lady peers who are out and fluid. I’m one of many now, and I’m working.

If we’re meant to reflect the world around us, the whole point of telling stories and reaching audiences is to challenge the status quo, to push the envelope. Not just to meet the status quo. We’re in a unique position to do this. We need to be actively pushing.”

Heard argued that women are at the forefront of the LGBTQ fight in Hollywood.

If every gay man that I know personally in Hollywood came out tomorrow, then this would be a non-issue in a month.” Despite the progress that’s already been made, she said, “We have a long way to go.”

Amber Heard speaks out against violence

https://youtu.be/BwqAP9mICR0

After a very public lawsuit and divorce from Johnny Depp, Amber Heard finally speaks out. After news of Depp’s verbal, emotional and physical abuse, the general public was quick to discredit Heard as a “gold-digger”. Her emotional video broadcasts a message too meaningful to be ignored: Raise Your Voice.

Although the divorce isn’t final, Heard has pledged to donate her 7 million settlement to the American Civil Liberties Union with a focus on battling violence against women, and to the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. We stand by Heard and hope her message and positive action will bring forward awareness and ultimately change.

New York fights back

New York Lawmakers have proposed a new bill protecting LGBTQ children and bills from conversion therapy, the so called Prevention of Emotional Neglect and Childhood Endangerment…. PENCE for short.

Vice-President elected, Mike Pence, is known for his anti-LGBT laws and his support of conversion therapy for gay children. The brilliant yet serious bill is proof that New York, as well as several other states, will fight for LGBTQ rights, with legislator Patrick Burke adding,

I had some, maybe a few folks who were maybe a little upset about the acronym and thought I was just trying to be cute, but no. These are serious times that we live in.”

Love Who You Wanna Love

jolivi_header

In a heartfelt interview with Bust Magazine, singer and songwriter JoLivi talked about her latest single Love Who You Wanna Love, and coming out as bisexual. She explains the meaning and need for the song, adding,

Love who you want to love is a expression of how I believe everyone should go through life—and that is without  judgment,”.

Stay tuned for more news about JoLivi. (Who knows, maybe there will be an exclusive interview posted soon).

Amber Heard Reaches Out To Domestic Violence Survivors In Powerful Video

Created in partnership with the GirlGaze Project, Amber Heard is reaching out to domestic violence survivors in a new PSA and opens up about her own experience with abuse.

How is this happening to me? I’m strong. I’m smart. I’m not a victim. There’s lot of shame attached. It happens to so many women and when it happens in your home behind closed doors with someone you love it’s not straight forward.”

Heard, finalized her high-profile divorce with actor Johnny Depp in August amid allegations of domestic abuse. After the divorce was finalized, Heard donated the entirety of the $7 million divorce settlement to charity, including half to “the ACLU, with a particular focus to stop violence against women,” she said in a statement at the time.

Heard says in the PSA.

It was pointed out to me that if a stranger did this it wouldn’t be ok. Telling someone safe is the beginning of choosing yourself. I went through it in the public arena and I have a unique opportunity to tell women you’re not alone.”

Heard went on to ask the media to reconsider the way it addresses domestic violence.

It’s about how we deal with it and how we talk about it in the media. We need to take responsibility for how we talk about these things.”

She finishes off the video with a final ditch attempt at persuading victims of domestic violence to speak up.

Speak up. Raise your voice. Your voice is the most powerful thing.”

What Your Queer Girl Celebrity Crush Says About You

Queer female celebrities have always been such an integral part of our queer culture. Whether the celeb in question actually identifies as lesbian, bisexual, or pansexual, or there’s just a lot of speculation about their sexuality, one thing’s for certain: We absolutely love them.

We’ve taken the time to identify 20 of the most famous out queer female celebrities, with a handy little guide to explain what your crush on that particular woman really means.

Ready? Let’s go! In alphabetical order…

Amber Heard

Amber Heard 02

Your crush on “no labels” actress Amber Heard says that you’re more about the person than how they label themselves – and that’s a great feeling. In fact, Amber made sure to note all the way back in 2011 that she doesn’t really label herself one way or the other – “it’s the person who matters.” Your crush on her says that you care about a person for the person they are, rather than the person they love.

Angelina Jolie

You’re into the classical beauty – strong, yet feminine features, with all the right curves and a seriously fierce pout. Between beauty, strength, and inclusivity, there is no contest – all are equally important when it comes to winning your affections. Besides – with a resume like hers, how could you possibly say no?

Anna Paquin

anna-paquin-01

Your crush on Anna Paquin says that your sexuality is far from the most important (or interesting) thing about you – and in fact, you prefer to keep your personal life as personal as possible, unless opening up will help someone else come to terms with who they are. You love the supernatural world and, TBH, you’d probably rather be a creature from another reality anyway. And, I mean, why wouldn’t you?

Caitlyn Jenner

Caitlyn Jenner 01

While many chose to label Caitlyn Jenner’s daring coming-out story as a publicity stunt, you instead chose to accept that it takes a lot of courage to come out later in life, and relentlessly supported her transition anyway. Go you for looking past the public opinion and realizing that all people deserve respect – even if they were once on a reality TV show.

Cameron Diaz

978824-beyondmytouch89-cameron-diaz-high-quality-wallpaper-978824

While it was widely reported that Cameron Diaz came out as bisexual, the fact of the matter is that she didn’t – so your crush on her might confirm that you tend to veer towards straight girls. (Sorry!) Not that there’s anything wrong with admiring someone you wouldn’t actually get with, of course, so this might mean that you prefer friendships over intimate relationships – and that is A-OK with us.

Cara Delevingne

2d274908073397-eyebrow-evolution-cara_delevingne-today-150325_ebeee932967a51e462b045019d855b87-today-inline-large

You’re into all that snark and sarcasm that we’ve come to know Cara for, but it’s more than just that – she manages to be entirely herself without compromising her exquisite beauty. Plus, she’s friends with practically everyone in Hollywood, so you might even be interested in the party scene – but, to be clear, that’s just a super small portion of who you really are.

Demi Moore

Your crush on the gorgeous Demi Moore proves that age is nothing but a number – and if you got that hot cougar thing working for you, well, that’s even better. Although her marriage with Ashton has already fallen apart, rumor has it that she’s just as into women as she is in men – so, in theory, her next boo could be a young, beautiful woman. (Please let this one be true!)

Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore 01

While Drew has spent most of her life in the spotlight, it came as a shock to many when she came out as bisexual – something that hasn’t put the tiniest hitch in her career. Your crush on her reveals that labels don’t really matter to you, and it doesn’t matter what other people think. Even though she has never sought to make herself a “sex symbol,” per se, she’s still definitely sexy to you!

Ellen DeGeneres

Ellen Degeneres Slams Mississippi’s

Your love for this Ellen means that you are down to be a pioneer, even if being a pioneer isn’t the easiest thing to do. Since Ellen came out way back when it wasn’t socially acceptable to do so, she’s put up with more than her fair share of haters in that time – but, thankfully, her overwhelming kindness and confidence has prevailed. I don’t think her relationship with Portia is going anywhere, though, so this crush isn’t going to lead anywhere in the foreseeable future.

Ellen Page

ellen-page-01

Ellen Page is one of the quirkiest actresses on our list, and while she doesn’t often play LGBT characters on the screen, she makes a point to support the LGBT community wherever she can. Your crush on her says that activism is super important to you, as is witty humor – and, of course, that makes her the perfect catch.

Evan Rachel Wood

Evan-Rachel-Wood-2

Even though many people have accused Evan of coming out for the attention, she chooses to educate, rather than hate on the uninformed masses. In 2013, she told AfterEllen,

So I don’t get angry or try to fight hate with hate; I just try to educate.” Your crush on her says that you understand that ignorance isn’t usually a choice, and you’d rather be with someone who is accepting of everyone – even those they don’t really understand.

Kesha

Kesha represents strength through adversity, as we all know the highly-visible ordeal she’s been going through these days. While some choose to label her as someone crying out for attention, your support of her proves that we should all be taken seriously – even if we happen to be covered in glitter. The world needs more glitter anyway, guys.

Lea DeLaria

Lea DeLaria - Credit Sophy Holland 2

Lea DeLaria might not be the traditional image of beauty that we see in the world, but your crush on her proves that it’s what’s inside that counts – especially when what’s inside is a whole bunch of sassiness, wrapped in activism, with a bit of dapper to hold it all together. You know that someone’s personality is what makes them so great, and you’re all about being your own witty, vulgar person, even if it makes you a pariah.

Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan

Now, LiLo fans are a little more into the party scene than the Cara fans, but can you blame them? Lindsay had a pretty rough childhood in the spotlight, like Miley, and she had to take some time for herself to get her head back on straight. Your crush on her means that you understand when your romantic interest makes some bad choices – it doesn’t mean she’s a bad person.

Megan Fox

Megan Fox has garnered some negative attention in saying that she, as a bisexual woman, won’t sleep with other bisexual women. However, you realize that it’s powerful to know exactly who you are and exactly what you want – and if your dream girl can do so while looking absolutely fabulous, even better.

Michelle Rodriguez

Michelle Rodriguez 99

Action is important to you – all kinds of action, both the kind fueled by love and the kind that takes place inside super fast cars or alongside Danny Trejo. She makes no excuses for who she is, and she won’t let anyone else define her – exactly what you like in a woman!

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus

You’re really into a woman who does her own thing, even if it took her a while to be comfortable in her own skin. You want someone who is unapologetic about who she is, even if that means she doesn’t always fit in with the crowd. The woman of your dreams would never put herself back into hiding just to make other people comfortable – what’s the point in that?

Rachel Maddow

show_about_rachelmaddow

Your crush on political correspondent Rachel Maddow shows that you want a woman who is well-informed and also just a bit sarcastic. Although many disapprove of the way she has spoken about the U.S. President Elect Donald Trump, you want a woman who speaks her mind in any situation – even if it doesn’t win her any popularity. Her witty humor turns you on, and you need a woman who can do the same in your life.

Ruby Rose

ruby_Rose_feature

Your crush on Ruby Rose tells us that you want someone flexible – a woman who can be either the studliest stud or the most feminine femme, all while looking absolutely fabulous. You don’t even care how much attention she’s getting from straight girls and lesbians alike – she’s bae and that’s all there is to it!

Samira Wiley

samira_wiley_headshot_h_2016

Your love for Samira tells us that you are all about using your powers for good. As a Julliard graduate, she chose to forego the more traditional path to perfection and instead bolted into everyone’s hearts as OITNB’s Poussey – at least until her untimely death at the end of the last season. Yikes. Hopefully we’ll have a chance to see her in other awesome stuff, besides just her adorable Instagram pics with future wifey Lauren Morelli.

Did we miss your crush?

Drop us a comment below letting us know who you’d like to see on this list! If there’s enough interest, we’ll do a second list with all the suggestions from readers.

Seeing Amber Heard As Queen Of Atlantis Just Made Our Day

The upcoming Justice League will be jammed packed with superheroes, and we can’t wait.

First, the film is set to introduce Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, Ray Fisher’s Cyborg, Ezra Miller’s The Flash, J. K. Simmons’s James Gordon, Willem Dafoe’s Nuidis Vulko, and Julian Lewis Jones’s unnamed character.

That’s already a long list, but remember, the film also sees the return of Ben Affleck’s Batman, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Amy Adams’s Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons’s Alfred, and Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor. Oh, and Snyder needs to resurrect Henry Cavil’s Superman.

justice-league-first-image

Along with all these characters, bisexual actress Amber Heard’s Mera will also debut in the film, and IGN has shared the first photo of Mera concept art (created by costume designer Michael Wilkinson and illustrator Ian Joyner), as well as a still shot of Heard in costume (complete with green scales and an elaborate headpiece).

While Heard as Mera is only expected to play a supporting role in Justice League, she will have a much bigger part in the upcoming “Aquaman” movie, directed by James Wan.

In Justice League – fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act – Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy.

Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of meta-humans to stand against this newly awakened threat.

But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heros, it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League will hit theatres on November 17, 2017.

According To Science, Amber Heard Has The Most Beautiful Face In the World

Bisexual actress, Amber Heard is the most beautiful woman in the world, according to facial mapping.

Her face was found to be 91.85% accurate to the Greek Golden Ratio of Beauty Phi – which for thousands of years was thought to hold the secret formula of perfection.

Using computer mapping technology, Heard – who is currently going through a messy divorce with Johnny Depp – was tested with the latest facial mapping techniques by Harley Street surgeon Dr Julian De Silva – who found her features to be the closest to the Golden Ratio of Beauty.

From pictures, her eyes, eyebrows, nose, lips, chin, jaw, and facial shape were measured and 12 key marker points were analysed and found to be 91.85 per cent of the Greek ratio of Phi which is 1.618.

The study also found that Kim Kardashian had perfect eyebrows, Scarlett Johansson came out on top for her eyes, Rihanna’s face shape was deemed the most beautiful, while Emily Ratajkowski’s lips and Kate Moss’s forehead were also praised.

Amber Heard’s Friend Pens Powerful Essay About The Devastating Impact Her Situation Has On Abused Women Everywhere

Artist and activist iO Tillett Wright has just penned a thought provoking piece for Refinery29, about how she had to call the police for a friend who fell victim to domestic abuse.

PAY-Amber-Heard-seen-with-her-friend-iO-Tillett-Wright-back-in-2012

Though the piece contains no names, it is widely believed to be about Amber Heard and Johnny Depp.

In the piece, Wright includes several references to the media storm regarding their on-going divorce, and Heard’s domestic abuse allegations against her husband.

Wright — a friend to the Depp family and the person cited in court documents as the one who contacted authorities about Depp’s alleged behaviour — wrote that she called for help because her friend “never would.”

PAY-Amber-Heard-and-Johnny-Depp

Wright says she “witnessed first hand the absolutely baffling mental pretzel that an abused person puts themselves into.”

I called 911 because she [Amber] never would. Because every time it happened, her first thought was about protecting him. Because every time it happened, the sweet, loving man we all cared for so much would come back with apologies, profuse, swearing up and down that he understood how bad what he had done was, and swearing never to do it again. We all loved him, but especially, especially her, and she wanted to believe that the behavior wasn’t going to last.

I understood her heartbreak. He had been my friend, too, a person I loved very much. A person I had once referred to as a brother … I knew him to be soft and gentle, with a temper and a dark side, but a golden heart. I didn’t want to believe it either, until I saw the wreckage.”

Amber-Heard

Wright also hit out at critics claiming Amber is lying

The cycle of abuse is perpetuated by every person who asserts that the victim more likely punched themselves rather than addressing the very real evidence of violence in front of them. The culture of victim-blaming is the very thing that protects abusers’ ability to get away with this kind of behavior.

Right now, every battered woman in the world is watching this media circus, internalizing the message that when they come forward for help, when they break the cycle, they will be called a gold digger, a cheater, and be accused of having faked it all for attention.

I’m looking at every journalist, every editor, every person who puts a comment on an article pointing an uneducated finger. You are the lynch mob. You are a deafening chorus. Your searching for an explanation for why he would have hit her sends the clear message that there CAN be a reason why someone hits their spouse.”

Wright’s comments echo many who have cited the backlash against Heard, as the reason women are afraid to come forward about abuse.

It doesn’t matter what was said between the two lovers, it doesn’t matter if the romance was coming to an end, because nothing warrants that response. No person, ever, should suffer violence at the hands of the person they love.

That’s why, when it happened again, when I was on the phone with both of them and heard it drop, heard him say, ‘What if I pulled your hair back?’ and her scream for my help, I wondered like so many times before if I should break the code of silence that surrounds celebrities and invite the police into the situation, and in a split second decided that, yes, I was going to.

Because I realized that as long as I was protecting the abuser from consequences, I was enabling the abuse and I could no longer partake. I had to stand up for my friend, and for what I believe in my gut to be the code of conduct by which human beings have to behave with each other.

Whether we loved him or not has nothing to do with it. When it comes to violence, ‘love’ is no longer part of the equation.”

Depp’s legal team have maintained the allegations of domestic abuse are completely false, despite numerous pictures of Amber’s bruised face being made public and after she was grated a temporary domestic abuse restraining order against him.

Lily-Rose Depp Clarifies Comments On Her Sexuality

Lily-Rose Depp has clarified comments regarding her sexuality, a year after she featured in a campaign promoting sexual fluidity.

Lily Rose Depp

Depp, the actress, model and 16-year-old daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, hit the headlines in August 2015 when she posed for iO Tillett Wright’s Self-Evident Truths Project, a photo series of people who aren’t “100% straight”.

She has now spoken to Nylon about the “misconstrued” reception of the campaign and said she featured in it to support not having to label sexuality.

That was really misconstrued, that whole thing. A lot of people took it as me coming out, but that’s not what I was trying to do. I was literally doing it just to say that you don’t have to label your sexuality; so many kids these days are not labeling their sexuality and I think that’s so cool, because you could think you like one thing…just like food, you could think peanut butter is your favorite food for, like, 5,000 years and then be like, ‘I actually like burgers better,’ you know?

I was just trying to say that kids and people in general don’t have to label themselves and say, ‘I’m straight’ or ‘I’m gay’ or ‘I’m whatever.’ If you like something one day then you do, and if you like something else the other day, it’s whatever. You don’t have to label yourself, because it’s not set in stone. It’s so fluid and there’s so much pressure on kids to label themselves and say ‘This is what I am, this is what I like.’ I was just trying to say that it’s unnecessary; you don’t need to label yourself. I guess it came off the wrong way, because then everyone labeled me as gay. That’s not what I was trying to say. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, of course! But I did that literally just to say you don’t have to label yourself, and then everyone was like, ‘Lily Rose Depp comes out as gay!’”

She also added that there’s too much pressure on kids to label themselves and that she believes sexuality is “not set in stone”.

I was just trying to say that it’s unnecessary; you don’t need to label yourself. I guess it came off the wrong way, because then everyone labelled me as gay. That’s not what I was trying to say. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, of course! But I did that literally just to say you don’t have to label yourself, and everyone like like, Lily-Rose Depp comes out as gay!”

She went on:

I’m saying it doesn’t matter! It’s not anybody’s business, because I am going to date whoever I’m going to date. I was just saying, kids don’t need to label their sexualities. It’s not that big of a deal.”

On why more and more people are deciding not to put a label on themselves, Depp puts it down to evolution.

People have completely different beliefs, different mindsets than they had 30 years ago-and they will have different mindsets and beliefs 30 years from now. I think life goes on, people progress and evolve, and that kind of thinking changes.”

Eddie Redmayne Transforms Into Transgender Artist Lili Elbe In Trailer For Oscar-Hyped Drama ‘The Danish Girl’

The first trailer for The Danish Girl, starring Eddie Redmayne as famous transgender, has been released.

The Danish Girl 01 The Danish Girl 02

The film, based on the book of the same name by David Ebershoff, focuses on

the true story of transgender pioneer Lili – born Einar Wegener – who became one of the first people to have gender reassignment surgery in the 1930s.

The trailer opens with the beautiful love story between Einar and his wife Gerda, who falls for the ‘charming and mysterious’ artist.

The Danish Girl 05

When one of Gerda’s models fails to show for a painting session, she persuades her husband to pose for her in a dress, unaware of how meaningful the moment is for him.

The dress-up spirals into a joke as the pair create a new identity for him, the beautiful and enigmatic Lili, heading out for the evening to see whether they can fool others.

The Danish Girl 03

But Gerda soon realises it is no longer a game for her partner, who experiences a revelation and admits to feeling more like her true self as Lili than she ever has, declaring, ‘This is not my body’.

With her wife’s support, Eddie’s character then embarks on the life-changing process of gender reassignment surgery.

Speaking previously about the movie, Eddie called the portrayal of transgender artist Lili Elbe ‘his most challenging role yet’.

Redmayne told GQ magazine:

I was actually offered The Danish Girl before Hawking… People go, “Oh are you doing this transformative thing?” It’s not a concerted choice. I think it will be a unique experience.”

Meanwhile, Academy Award-winner Hooper – who previously worked with Redmayne on Les Miserables – has revealed there was no other actor than the hugely talented Eddie for the role.

I was a great believer in him as an actor. I think also there’s a certain gender fluidity that I sensed in him, that I found intriguing and it led me to think he might be a really interesting person to cast in this role. I felt that there was something in him that was drawn to the feminine. That was something that I felt he might be interested to explore further.”

The Danish Girl opens in New York and Los Angeles on November 27, and in additional cities in December.

Johnny Depp’s Daughter Lily-Rose Comes Out as Sexually Fluid

For a new LGBT charity campaign, Lily Rose Depp has come out and revealed her sexuality.

Following the recent trend of people identifying as not 100% heterosexual, the model and daughter of Johnny Depp has made a subtle statement about her sexuality – by taking part in a quirky new campaign aimed at promoting society’s inclusiveness and acceptance of LGBT people in America.

Photographer iO Tillet Wright – who is behind the ‘Self Evident’ campaign – shared a picture on social media with Miss Depp, praising her decision to come out in order to help spread the campaign’s ‘We Are You’ message.

I’m so proud of my baby girl @lilyrose_depp. She decided she wanted to be in @selfevidentproject because she falls somewhere on the vast spectrum, and I couldn’t be happier to welcome her to the family. She’s a tiny gem of a good human. #prouduncle #weareyou.”

https://instagram.com/p/6x09shhaI8

The Self Evident Truths project is a “photographic document of 10000 people in the USA that identify as ANYTHING OTHER than 100% straight.”

A number of other celebrities have leant their voice to the campaign including Sia, Kylie Minogue and Transparent star Gaby Hoffman.

Earlier this year, Lily Rose’s stepmother Amber Heard – who also features in the campaign – said she has had to “fight” for movie roles since she came out as bisexual.

The 29-year-old ‘Magic Mike XXL’ star – who came out as bisexual back in 2010, before she met her husband Johnny Depp in 2012 – said she didn’t want to be “defined by” her sexuality.

I don’t want to have to deny my sexuality in order to be me. But I don’t want to have to be defined by it. I’m fundamentally opposed to trying to edit myself to be palatable or popular. I don’t give a f**k. I fight, but I shouldn’t have to.”

Amber Heard Discusses the Importance of Being Out in Hollywood

Actress Amber Heard came out during an event organised by GLAAD in 2010, saying she believed that denying or hiding something is an inadvertent admission that it’s “wrong”.

On her decision to come out, she recently told The Times:

At that time I didn’t know of anyone else in my position who was a working female lead actress. I don’t want to have to deny my sexuality in order to be me. But I don’t want to have to be defined by it. I’m fundamentally opposed to trying to edit myself to be palatable or popular. I don’t give a f**k. I fight, but I shouldn’t have to.”

Heard also admitted re-writing her lines for Magic Mike to suggest that her character was bisexual and enjoyed the film’s “reversed gender roles” .

It’s a film about men seeking sexual attention. It gives the power position to women. My character’s function has nothing to do with her sexuality.”

Going on, she said she thought celebrities who stay in the closet are “inadvertently admitting it’s wrong” to be gay or bisexual.

She went on:

I personally think that if you deny something or if you hide something you’re inadvertently admitting it’s wrong. I hate the idea of a label just as much as anyone else but I’m with who I’m with. I’m not a better actress than I was yesterday and my personal life should have no effect on that.”

An increasing number of celebrities are choosing to come out publicly. Cara Delevingne mostly recently confirmed her relationship with the singer St Vincent during an interview with Vogue, while Ellen Page announced she was gay at a conference for LGBT teens last year.

Talking to IndieWire, she said

It’s story about heart and love between two people and identity as well and it just so happens to be also an LGBT issue. Discrimination, identity, family relationships love, all these things within the context of a society. All of these things within a society that doesn’t accept that. Somebody undergoing a sex change to fully realize themselves is incredibly compelling for me.

I’m obviously a major advocate for equality and as a member of the LGBT community, I am honored to be able to be part of a story that represents a part of that struggle and that life.”

Heard has been a staunch advocate for the LGBTI community, which is one of the reasons why she wanted to star in the upcoming film. She came out as bisexual in 2010.

There’s always been gay people. That’s a fact. And I’m not trying to say that having ambiguous gender identity, I’m not saying that’s new. Look at the Greek culture, that’s fairly recent too in the span of human culture, but to actively be able to change it in this way…awesome.”

In the interview the Austin-born actress also discusses the limitations she faced being an actress.

you’re constantly asked to choose between one of two archetypes: sexy or not. And within the “not,” you perhaps can acquire for yourself a few different traits, but they’re going to be severely limited. The story’s not going to be about you. In the former, it’s completely unfulfilling work to undergo and it’s not fulfilling for an audience to watch. It’s incredible frustrating that a system is in place where you have to choose one or the other. I should not have to choose to be taken seriously or to be beautiful.”
