Showtime Looking To Adapt Ingrid Jungermann’s ‘F To 7th’ Into Comedy Series

According to Deadline, Ingrid Jungermann, whose first feature, Women Who Kill, just premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, is heading to television.

Showtime has put in development F To 7th, a half-hour comedy based on Jungermann’s popular web series of the same name.

The web series follows a middle-aged lesbian woman named Ingrid, as she attempts to navigate a world where her old-fashioned ideas of lesbianism have been left behind.

F To 7th – which she created and stars in – is 2 seasons long with each season lasting eight episodes. The series featured Amy Sedaris (Strangers With CandyBojack HorsemanUnbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Michael Showalter (Wet Hot American Summer, Hello, My Name Is Doris, They Came Together) and Janeane Garofalo (Wet Hot American SummerThe Larry Sanders ShowThe Ben Stiller Show).

Although she starred in the web series, there has not been any confirmation as to whether or not Jungermann will star in the TV series.

Jungermann will be writing the TV adaptation of her series along with Showalter and writer/director Jamie Babbit (But I’m A CheerleaderMarriedGirls).

As with any web series making the jump to television, it will be interesting to see how similar the Showtime series will be to its web series counterpart.

This news also raises the question of who will play Jungermann’s character if she does not star in the television adaptation.

For anyone who has seen the web series it may be difficult to watch someone else take on the part that Jungermann has inhabited.

Ingrid Jungermann Brings ‘Women Who Kill’ to the Tribeca Film Festival

Brooklyn-based filmmaker Ingrid Jungermann is best known for her web series’ The Slope and F to 7th.

The Slope, which Jungermann created with then-girlfriend Desiree Akhavan, followed a couple of “superficial, homophobic” lesbians in Park Slope, Brooklyn as they figured out their power dynamic and realise that they are “ultimately, perfect for one another.”

F to 7th, meanwhile, was perhaps even more successful than The Slope.

In this web series, Ingrid in her “descent into pre-middle age,” as she find herself “in a world where sexuality and gender have left her old-fashioned lesbianism behind.”

The Guardian called it one of the best web series of 2013.

In a similar vein to both series, Jungermann has written and directed feature film Women Who Kill. Women Who Kill, is also set in Park Slope and follows two true crime podcasters, Morgan (played by Jungermann) and her ex-girlfriend Jean (played by Ann Carr), as they suspect that Morgan’s new love interest Simone (played by Sheila Vand) of being a murderer.

Speaking to Indie Wire, the filmmaker explains that Women Who Kill came about due to an “unhealthy obsession” with (popular podcast) Serial, as well as a “history of failed relationships and a desire to deconstruct romantic comedy structure.”

I wanted to make a movie that felt both familiar and foreign and tap into the universal problem of loneliness.”

While reviews still appear to be in the works, Filmmaker Magazine has called it one of ‘15 Films to Anticipate’ at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Loren Hammonds, who is the programmer and live events producers for the film festival also calls Women Who Kill “an adept and wry comedy on modern romance’s hollow results set in an LGBTQ Brooklyn that pulls ample humor from awkward and, perhaps to confirmed Park Slopers, all-too-familiar situations.”

Hammonds also called it a “marvelous send-up of the search for meaning in modern-day relationships.”

Hilda is described as “an intelligent and seemingly confident lesbian lothario with a dry sense of humor – that she uses to hide her underlying fear of growing up, settling down and becoming conventional.”

Joining Jones in the single-camera show is Andy Riding who plays Randall, who is Hilda’s best friend.

According to Deadline which broke the news about Jones’ casting in the comedy pilot, Randall is a “neurotic straight guy” and the two friends must “navigate their dysfunctional, co-dependent friendship and the world of dating.”

Also involved in the project is Ed Weeks  (The Mindy Project) and Hannah Mackay who wrote the pilot together, while Leslye Headland is set to direct.

Moreover, Deadline previously reported that out lesbian comic Julie Goldman will feature in the show as JoJo, “a fun-loving Southern biker who runs Austin’s friendliest gastropub.”

Assuming that ABC orders more episodes of the comedy following its pilot episode, the yet unnamed show will not be the only TV program to introduce a lesbian of colour. It was also recently announced that Wanda Sykes will star in ABC’s other new comedy show Dream Team, which is about a football coach who must coach a team of 8-year olds and deal with their parents.

In Dream Team, Sykes plays Leslie a “competitive ob-gyn who has a passion for sports,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sykes’ character is trying to help her daughter Miley land a spot on a “nationally ranked” football team but her wife, Michaela, is trying to get Miley to stop playing the sport.

We’ll keep you posted should ABC order more episodes of the two TV shows.

First Look At Jane Lynch’s Hilarious CBS’ Comedy ‘Angel From Hell’

Glee alum Jane Lynch is playing the worst (or best) guardian angel ever on the new CBS comedy Angel From Hell.

In the series, slated for the fall, Lynch plays Amy, a bon-a-fide angel who goes to Earth to make contact with the woman she’s been watching over, Allison (Maggie Lawson), an uppity dermatologist.

Amy’s crude personality and half-assed work ethic has landed her into the celestial doghouse, so she decides to make amends by revamping Allison’s life.

Not surprisingly, Allison isn’t too receptive to the idea—until her seemingly perfect love life takes a nasty turn (one predicted by Amy).

Lily Tomlin on the Long Road to Being Public About her Sexuality

Lily Tomlin has often quietly spoken about her sexuality – and married her long-term partner Jane Wagner on New Year’s Eve 2013, but its only now she is starting openly discuss her sexuality in interviews.

Lily Tomlin

Speaking to HuffPo Live, she opened up her life in the transparent closet – joking that “everyone” already knew she was a lesbian.

I was on Carson one night [in 1971], and he [asked if I wanted kids], and I said no… the audience was deathly still. That was a hot subject to bring up to a straight audience. I wasn’t totally forthcoming. Everybody in the business knew I was gay, and certainly everybody I worked with and everything like that.

I just never had a press conference to announce it. In 1975, [TIME magazine] wanted to put me on the cover just for being gay! I was making my third album at the time.”

However, Tomlin did not agree to do the cover – and kept her sexuality off-the-record until years later.

I wonder if I had come out on that ’75 cover on TIME, if I would have had as long a career as I’ve had. It would have been an inopportune time to make such a grand statement. I mean, Ellen [DeGeneres] didn’t really come out until 20 years later. It’s been a long life… I’ve been really lucky.”

Tomlin is currently working with Jane Fonda on the comedy series Grace and Frankie, which is a comedy drama called Grace and Frankie, which follows long-time rivals Grace and Frankie, who are brought together after their husbands announce they are in love with each other and plan to get married. The 13-part Netflix series, is set to air from May 8.

Bow Down, Because Amy Schumer is the Queen of Comedy

Ellen DeGeneres is usually the one cracking up her guests, but not when she in the company of Amy Schumer.

The comedian visited The Ellen Show to give what was arguably the most epic and hilarious interviews to date.

Schumer appeared on Ellen to talk sexual harassment, food, dating, and being compared to Dianna Agron. But the host was totally cool with it, because she couldn’t stop cracking up!

In the amazing clip, Schumer discussed the difference between being in your 20s and 30s, wine teeth, popcorn, Tinder, hanging out with the almost unsettlingly pretty Dianna Agron, dating scones, and UTIs.

Another New Lesbian Comedy In Development With Tina Fey and Fortune Feimster At The Helm

According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC has placed orders for a new comedy project, Family Fortune starring actor-comedian Fortune Feimster.

Family Fortune is described as a semi-autobiographical project written by the Chelsey Lately veteran Feimster, and 30 Rock alum Matt Hubbard, Tina Fey and Robert Carlock.

After several years in Hollywood, Feimster got her break when Chelsea Handler brought her to her E! late-night talk show as a writer and performer.

The project is said to centre on ‘a popular gym teacher in Feimster’s native North Carolina who comes out of the closet to her close-knit group of family and friends. What she doesn’t realize is that she will also have to deal with her bickering and happily divorced parents also ‘coming out’ that they are sleeping together again’.

Ellen Degeneres also has a lesbian comedy in the making for NBC called One Big Family. However, her role is not in front of the camera, but behind the scene where she is the executive producing.

However despite featuring a lesbian story line, Ellen says the goal of the show was to make people laugh, not break new ground on TV with another lesbian show.

“It just happens to be a very funny show. It happens to have a lesbian character in it. It’s not like I formed a production company and said, ‘Bring me all your lesbian scripts.’ I’m not just going to be a lesbian machine that just turns out stuff.”
