Lesbian Couples Are More Likely Than Gay Men To Get Divorced.

According to new data from the Office for National Statistics published female same-sex couples make up just over half of same-sex marriages in England and Wales, yet they account for nearly three-quarters of same-sex divorces.

Five years on from the introduction of equal marriage in England and Wales, there were 822 divorces among same-sex couples in 2019, nearly twice as many as reported in the previous year.

Of these, 589 were female couples and 233 were male couples.

The ONS says that the overall increase of same-sex divorces “reflects the increasing size of the same-sex married population since 2014”, though divorces among same-sex couples still make up less than one per cent of all divorces.

Unreasonable behaviour, which includes adultery, was the most common ground for divorce among same-sex couples this year as almost two-thirds of couples divorced for this reason.

2020’s divorce stats, which will not be published until late 2021, are likely to be turbulent reading, with lockdown believed to have pushed many couples to the brink.

There is no clear statistical explanation for why divorce rates among lesbians and gay men diverge so significantly, though female couples are more likely to get married at younger ages.

Stonewall co-founder Lisa Power previously told The Economist that the number of lesbian couples getting divorced might have something to do with the tendency to move very fast and quickly invest in a relationship, otherwise known as U-hauling.

Power added: “We all used to move in with each other at the drop of a hat.”

Angelina Jolie Has Filed For Divorce From Brad Pitt

Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from Brad Pitt, TMZ is reporting, after two years of marriage and 12 dating (they got together in 2004).

In a statement, her attorney Robert Offer said

Angelina has filed for dissolution of the marriage. This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time.”

The couple have been together since 2004 and married in 2014.

Jolie has reportedly asked for physical custody of their six children, with Pitt allowed visitation rights.

She isn’t asking for spousal support. However, the date of separation is listed as 15 September.

Jolie was previously married to actor Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton. She also dated model Jenny Shimizu – when the pair met on the set of their 1996 film Foxfire, when Jolie was only 20 years-old.

Jolie was very open about the relations saying;

I have loved women in the past and slept with them. I think if you love and want to pleasure a woman, particularly if you are a woman yourself, then certainly you know how to do things a certain way”

New Survey Says Americans Are More Accepting Of Same-Sex Relationships, Than Heterosexual Divorce

According to a new survey, Americans are more accepting of gay relationships, but they are less comfortable with divorce.

Over the last few years, the American government has been periodically asks thousands of teens and younger adults what they think about changes in U.S. family relationships.

The results released this week indicate a shift over a decade on a range of topics. But most surprising was what they said about divorce.

Asked if divorce is the best solution when a marriage is on the rocks, 38% of women agreed, down from 47% a decade earlier. For men, it was 39%, down from 44%.

Divorce in the U.S. has become more common through the generations, and there’s an assumption that acceptance would be holding steady or perhaps increasing, some experts said.

According to Wendy Manning, a family and marriage researcher at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, there could be several explanations for the decline.

Marriage is becoming so selective that maybe people think if you achieve this status, you don’t want to end it.”

Marriage rates are down and people are older when they first get married. So those who do marry are more likely to be in it to win it, she said.

Also, the survey was conducted on the heels of a national economic downturn, when some couples didn’t have the money to divorce and set up separate households, she noted.

Other findings, which reflect an increase over a decade:

  • Think it’s OK for a young couple to live together before they’re married; about three-quarters of men and women.
  • Approve of single women having and raising a baby; 78% of women, 69% of men.
  • Agree gay and lesbian adults should have the right to adopt children; 75% of women, 68% of men.
  • Approve of premarital sex among 18 year olds; about 54% of women and 64% of men.
  • But there was no significant change when it came to sex among 16 year olds. Only 15% of women and 21% of men said it’s OK.
  • And fewer than 10% think it’s necessary to have children to be happy in life. That hasn’t been changing, either.

In a conversation with HuffPost Live’s Alyona Minkovski, Jane Lynch discusses the season final of Glee, her character Sue and her divorce.

“With Gay Marriage Is Going To Come Gay Divorce”

Jane Lynch

Jane Lynch doesn’t have much to say about the implications of her divorce from Lara Embry last October, but when pushed she says she felt pressure to maintain a certain family unity as a famous, gay, married woman.

“I mean, with gay marriage is going to come gay divorce. It’s just how it goes. Where’s my parade?”

Jane Lynch

Lynch previously insisted that her divorce was ‘not a horrible thing’ and friends explained the actress wanted to stay friends with Lara for the sake of her former spouse’s 10-year-old daughter, Haden.

“It’s not dramatic. It’s not a horrible thing. It’s something that we’re dealing with. It’s two people who just decided it’s better to go apart than stay together.”

Do lesbians Need a Prenup? Jane Lynch is Maybe Thinking so This Week

Do lesbians need a prenup? A question I never expected to ask this sunny morning. However, Jane Lynch maybe thinking so this week, after her divorce was finalized on Monday.

A year after the divorce proceedings between Jane Lynch and her estranged wife (Dr. Lara Embry) slightly sour, their union is now officially dissolved. But is come at a price.

According to TMZ reports, Lynch will need to pay a lump sum of $1.2 million spread out over two years to her former wife.

Dr. Embry will also get fifty percent of the funds in a number of bank accounts, including a 401(k); fifty percent of Lynch’s TV royalties; fifty percent of their $56,810 tax refund; their yacht club membership; and the family dog.

Embry, a psychologist, had initially asked for spousal support to the tune of $94,000 a month, claiming that during her three-year marriage to Lynch she had grown accustomed to spending nearly $6,500 per month on clothes, $12,000 per month on entertainment and vacations, and $4,500 per month on dining out. WOW!

The divorce was finalized on Monday.
