Cleveland’s Gay Games Adverts Looks to Reclaim the Phrase #ThatsSoGay

The 2014 Gay Games have started in Cleveland and the ads for the event are making a statement – #ThatsSoGay

According to Brokaw, the ad agency charged with creating the ad, there was only one question on their minds:

“How do you get thousands of dollars of free unpaid media and international buzz for the 2014 international gay games with zero traditional media dollars?

Let’s turn a controversial and derogatory remark like, “That’s so gay,” into a positive, inspiring PR, digital, and grassroots campaign that both the gay and straight communities could support.”

Obama Opens Cleveland’s Gay Games with Supportive Video Message

President Barack Obama has helped kick off the international Gay Games in Cleveland with a video message, which was shown at the opening ceremonies. In the video, he welcomed athletes, coaches, families and spectators from around the world to Ohio and the United States.

The president said the United States has come a long way in its commitment to equal rights for LGBT people. He also noted that some athletes come from places where publicly acknowledging their sexual orientation can put them at risk.

He affirmed the United States’ commitment to standing ‘with you and for your human rights’.

New Ad from Canada Makes The Olympics Gay

This advert, which is believed to be the Canada’s Response To Russia’s Anti-LGBT Propaganda Law, has been watched more than 5 million times on YouTube. Created by Canadian Institute for Diversity and Inclusion the ad promotes the Olympic Games as initially homosexual.

“Games have always been a little gay… Let’s fight to keep them that way.”
