5 Queer Youtubers You Should Subscribe To

I am a huge procrastinator! And lately, instead of wasting my time on Instagram or Tumblr, I decided to give waste it on Youtube, for a change.

I have always subscribed to several queer Youtubers and, in my quest to find more and more content, I have come across some pretty hilarious/informative/entertaining queer Youtubers I want to share with you.

Here are some of my favourite queer Youtubers in no particular order:

Rose Ellen Dix and The Roxetera

These two British Youtubers, now married, always manage to make me laugh uncontrollably. They cover all possible topics, even venturing into the gaming world with their famous segment Let’s play Games.

Not convinced? You can also count on several collaborations with other famous queer Youtubers and their chemistry and playful banter will turn them into your favourite Youtube couple.

Why watch: If you need a good laugh.

MyHarto

You have probably heard of Hannah Hart by now, either because of her Youtube channels, her movies, or even her books.

This Youtuber is definitely one of my favourites and My Drunk Kitchen will always be one of the funniest yet most informative shows on this list. Ow, not really into cooking? No problem at all! Hannah also has another channel, YourHarto, where she discusses more serious topics, always with her quick and witty humour in hand.

Why watch: If you want to learn something new AND watch someone get drunk.

Unsolicited Project

Mostly known as Pillow Talk, this hilarious Canadian channel is every gay girl’s dream!

Adrianna and Sarah, the two hilarious women running the channel, bring you a weekly dose of all the gay-related content you could imagine! They also have a new Snapchat series as well as a new movie, Almost Adults, featuring Natasha Negovanlis and Elise Baumann, from the hit webseries Carmilla.

Why watch: If you want to know everything about gay pop-culture or just know more about “baby-dykes”.

ElloSteph

If you are more into a vlog type of channel, Ello Steph is one of the best! Often posting vlogs, challenges, and informative videos, this channel is guaranteed to teach you a thing or two. Another thing I love about this channel is the fact that it is incredibly sex-positive. If you have a question, sex-related or not, ElloSteph will have the right answer.

Why watch: Educate yourself!

Ally Hills

Last but not least, Ally Hills! Mostly know for her hit song “How to know if a Girl is Gay”, this Youtuber is the triple-threat of your dreams: she can sing, she can dance, and she’s incredibly hilarious.

You can count on fresh content every week with a positive twist! The videos always manage to cheer me up and leave me smiling the rest of the day. She also occasionally releases new videos and songs that will be permanently stuck in your head.

Why watch: I mean, just watch the video below.

Daily Juice: Cara Delevingne Gets Photobombed By Jean-Claude Van Damme, Plus Kristen Stewart Turns 26 By Rocking Channel

Love it! Cara Delevingne was photobombed by action star Jean-Claude Van Damme in LAX, as he blasts paparazzi for ignoring him – ‘Excuse me, I’m more famous’.

Talking of Cara, she joined Hannah Hart, Halsey, and Queen Latifah at the MTV Movie Awards on Saturday.

Kristen Stewart turns 26 and struts a pose for Karl Lagerfeld Chanel’s latest Metiers d’Art campaign. The new ads will target Italy and promote the brand’s pre-fall 2016 line. Stewart has been repping for the brand for about three years now.

Youtube Power Couple Officially Split

June last year Ingrid Nilsen made waves when she came out in this touching coming out video.

She then made YouTube waves when it was announced she was dating Youtube favourite, Hannah Hart Their relationship – shipped aka Hangrid – took the YouTube community by storm last year, and we all became highly addicted to their duet videos.

However, fans are now devastated to find out that their favourite couple is sadly no longer together.

Hart and Nilsen revealed the break-up in their own words on Twitter to make sure their fans knew that the split was not sad at all, but actually totally amicable.

In fact, the decision to part ways happened nearly two months ago (in January 2016) and since, the girls have formed an incredibly solid friendship.

Both also simultaneously posted a statement on their Twitters at 6.58pm. Hannah said the following;

Over on Ingrid’s Twitter, she shared a similarly emotional message;

https://twitter.com/ingridnilsen/status/711733725390774272?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

As we all know, breaking up is hard to do, even when you’re not a couple of Youtube mega-stars.

But what is positive from this story, is instead of a nasty public break-ups (which we’ve grown accustomed), the pair represent a relationship-turned-friendship that ended in a healthy way by showing that falling out of romantic love does not mean people can’t still love each other as human beings.

We wish the best for these two as they move forward and, while we’ll miss them as a couple, we’re glad to see they’re still pals!

10 Famous Women Who Came Out in 2015

Last year, we brought you our top 10 list of out women who ‘totally rocked’ 2014, but this year we’re switching it up a bit as so many famous ladies found the courage to start living their truths (or 2015 was just the year that they spoke about their identities to the media) that we couldn’t help but celebrate!

Our hearts have swelled and we may have shed a few tears or so finding out that yes, celebrities are just like us. So without further ado, here’s our list of 10 famous women who came out during 2015.

1. Holland Taylor

Holland Taylor

If you’re up to date on queer media then you’ll probably know Holland Taylor as Peggy Peabody in The L Word or as Mrs. Petrie in D.E.B.S, but if you’ve spent any time on the Internet in the last few weeks then you’ll know her from the media’s headlines.

During an interview with WYNC’s Death, Sex and Money podcast, Taylor explained that “I haven’t come out because I am out, I live out” and that she’s in her ‘first-ever deeply committed relationship’.

Calling the relationship “the most wonderful extraordinary thing that could have ever possibly happened in my life”, Taylor didn’t reveal her partner’s identity during the podcast but following Internet speculation, it was soon confirmed that her girlfriend is the one and only Sarah Paulson.

2. Kristen Stewart

kristen-stewart-short-hair-01

Kristen Stewart is best known to heterosexuals for her role as Bella Swan in the Twilight movie franchise but she’s (probably) best known to the rest of us as the woman of our dreams. Indeed, after photos of her out and about with her ‘gal pal’ Alicia Cargile began to do the rounds, many began to ask whether or not Kristen Stewart is actually not-heterosexual.

Kristen Stewart gives a death stare getting coffee

After her mother appeared to out her, confirming the relationship between the two women, the actresses interview with NYLON was published. In it, she explained that

I don’t feel like it would be true for me to be like, ‘I’m coming out!’ No, I do a job. Until I decide that I’m starting a foundation or that I have some perspective or opinion that other people should be receiving…I don’t.”

Moreover, she thinks that “in three or four years, there are going to be a whole lot more people who don’t think it’s necessary to figure out if you’re gay or straight. It’s like, just do your thing.”

3. Caitlyn Jenner

Caitlyn Jenner 05

When it comes to the Kardashian/Jenner family, it’s usually Kim, Khloe, Kylie or Kendall making the headlines but in June, it was Caitlyn Jenner as she came out as a trans woman.

In a beautiful photoshoot and interview with Vanity Fair, the Olympian and reality TV star revealed her true gender identity.

Caitlyn has been a controversial figure amongst the transgender community ever since (her E! reality show suggests that she still has a lot to learn about the struggles of less-privileged trans people) and on The Ellen DeGeneres show she admitted to the talk show host that she’s still a bit wary when it comes to same-sex marriage but her coming out did spark a conversation and it encouraged many other people to come out too.

4. Ingrid Nilsen

Ingrid Nilsen

If you don’t spend much time on YouTube then there’s a good chance that up until June of this year, you had no idea who Ingrid Nilsen was.

But, in an emotional, 19 minute video, the beauty and fashion vlogger revealed her struggle of being closeted and how much it meant to her to be able to tell those around her (and her almost 4 million subscribers) about her identity.

And, in a super cute turn of events, not long after Ingrid came out, she revealed that she’s dating (fellow YouTube superstar) Hannah Hart!

5. Jess Glynne

Rather Be Jess Glynne

Holy My Hand, Not Letting Go, My Love, Rather Be, and Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself; these massively popular songs all reached number 1 in the UK and earned Jess Glynne a place in the record books as the British solo female with the most #1 singles (a record she shares with Cheryl Fernandez Versini). But as we were all dancing along, Jess revealed exactly what inspired all of the tracks.

Her debut album, I Cry When I Laugh, was inspired by her break up with her ex-girlfriend, though she told The Daily Star Sunday that “I’m never going to put a label on my sexuality and people should never feel uncomfortable about who they love”.

6. Miley Cyrus

Miley-Cyrus-01

Miley Cyrus is one controversial figure and her tabloid-featuring antics mean that some people loathe her rather than like her.

However, plenty of people supported her when the former Disney star came out as pansexual earlier this year and she also spoke about her gender identity too.

Speaking to Paper magazine, the singer and actress told the publication that “I don’t relate to being boy or girl, and I don’t have to have my partner relate to boy or girl”.

Note: Despite this being a list of ‘out famous women’, Miley Cyrus identifies as gender-fluid and not as a woman.

7. Ramona Bachmann

Ramona Bachmann

This year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup was a defining moment of 2015 for so many reasons.

Not only was it the most viewed women’s world cup in the tournament’s history and not only did it ignite a debate about sexism and equal treatment (due to the women being paid less than the men and having to play on astro-turf) but because many non-heterosexual football players would be playing too.

Joining Megan Rapinoe, Abby Wambach, Ali Krieger and several others was Swiss player Ramona Bachmann who actually came out at the world cup. She revealed that her girlfriend, Camille, was at the tournament supporting her and that they’d been together for almost a year.

8. Cara Delevingne

Cara Delevingne 07

Supermodel and actress Cara Delevingne is no stranger to the LGBTQ community having made headlines last year when she attended a basketball game with her then-girlfriend Michelle Rodriguez, with the two of them being all over each other as they sat court-side.

But in Vogue she spoke openly about her sexuality, saying that she’s in love with her girlfriend Annie Clark (known by her stage name, St. Vincent) and that she could fall for anyone of any gender.

Unfortunately, the Vogue interview seemed to frame her sexuality as a phase and not long after, Delevingne clarified, saying “my sexuality is not a phase. I am who I am”

9. Patricia Velasquez

Patricia-Velasquez-03

Model and actress Patricia Velasquez is credited as being the world’s first Latina supermodel and in 1994 she was also the first Venezuelan model to be part of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition. But what people didn’t know is that during that same decade – the 90s – Velasquez was also coming to terms with her identity as a gay woman.

In her memoir, Straight Walk: A Supermodel’s Journey to Finding Her Truth, she reveals that she first realised her sexuality after she fell for Sandra Bernhard and that

among the fashion world and fashion people, I always felt great because, you know, the fashion world is very open and I felt very welcome”.

10. Angel McCoughtry

Angel McCoughtry

Angel McCoughtry is one of the WNBA’s most talented players having helped the USA basketball team win Olympic gold and world championship gold, but earlier this year it wasn’t her basketball achievements that had everyone talking.

The sports web was abuzz as McCoughtry left Turkish club Fenerbahҫe (officially due to contractual disagreements) and came out on Instagram.

In an Instagram post with her fiancé, Brande Elise, the basketball star revealed that “yes we been discriminated against! We lost friends! Family members are upset! They said I disgraced my religion!” also claiming that Fenerbahҫe “threatened” her job if she didn’t post on social media saying that their relationship is a lie. Hardships aside, “one thing I do know”, wrote McCoughtry, “is that LOVE is a great feeling”

5 Lesbians To Follow On YouTube

For some reason, this generation seems to migrate towards expression on social media. I can’t say that I’m not wrapped up in it myself. One of the things that social media has brought us in the gay community is a way to network and find each other. Not too long ago, you had to hang out in the “gay scene” in order to know other gay people. Thank goodness we can find new lesbians to talk to without leaving the house now! (I’m not really sure if that’s sarcastic or not.)

In a way, this social media outlet has even created its own brand of celebrity – that is, the viral sensation celebrity. It’s something extra special because these viral celebrities often take the time to speak with their fans and actually get to know their community on a personal basis.

Read on to find the 5 lesbian YouTube channels you should be following, along with a selection of my favorite videos.

1. Bria and Chrissy

Bria and Chrissy have been some of my favorite lesbian celebs (celesbians?) for quite a while now. Their love is inspiring, and they’re also super funny and talented. If you haven’t had the chance to check out their channel yet, you won’t regret it. My favorite Bria and Chrissy video? “10 Worst Ways to Come Out”.

2. HartBeat

Hart is something else entirely. She also falls in the “funny and talented” category that Bria and Chrissy do, but she has a wealth of skits and characters that she uses to convey her message. One of my favorite Hart videos? “Lesbian Issues” – an amusing look at some of the things that we, as lesbians, need to stop doing. I challenge you to not get it stuck in your head!

3. Arielle Scarcella

Unlike most of the lesbians on this list, Arielle takes the unpopular approach of taking on the “serious” issues with a funny twist. Of course, personally I prefer the comedy, that doesn’t mean that her serious issues aren’t important. My favorite video of hers is “Sh*t that Scares Lesbians in Bed”. Pure comedy gold!

4. Hannah Hart

Hannah Hart doesn’t really market herself “as a lesbian”, which makes her different from many of the others on this list. She doesn’t cater to the gay community, but to people in general, which means that her videos have a bit broader of an audience than some of the other channels listed here. The fact is that she’s a comedy genius, and she’s sure to cement herself as one of your favorite comedians on YouTube. My favorite Harto video is “How to Ask if a Girl is Gay”, which totally explores the awkwardness of hitting on a girl who might be straight.

5. Haley Kiyoko

Unlike the rest of the lesbians on this list, Haley Kiyoko is primarily a musician rather than a comedienne. She’s got a nice sound that’s reminiscent of older pop songs (she brings to mind Aly and AJ from the early 2000’s, for me at least). If you’re looking for a lesbian musical influence to add to your play lists, don’t miss Haley Kiyoko. My favorite of her songs? “Girls Like Girls”.

What Other Lesbians Do You Follow?

I am always on the lookout for new lesbians to follow on YouTube – and I am very curious to see your suggestions! What lesbians do you follow? Who inspires you? Share with us in the comments!

Its Official: Lesbian YouTuber Hannah Hart Confirms Relationship with Ingrid Nilson

It’s official: YouTube sensation and Project Runway judge Ingrid Nilsen – who came out in an emotional video posted to her channel in June – is dating fellow internet star Hannah Hart.  Cue all the swoons and ohs and ahs. They are too cute!

hannah-hart-ingrid-02

Hart, 28, confirmed she is dating the 26-year-old beauty vlogger in the October issue of DIVA magazine.

I met someone who was a great fit for the real me…She’s also a YouTuber. We’ve actually been friends for a couple of years and then…circumstances kind of aligned. Her name is Ingrid and she is a big YouTuber. But she’s also one of the most brilliant, soulful people I’ve ever met. It’s so good.”

She added that being in the same industry as her girlfriend only makes their relationship better.

To have a peer who is also my partner, who does what I do and gets this world, this world that we live in, but also gets the world inside ourselves? “

hannah-hart-ingrid-01

While Hart has been open about her sexuality for years, Ingrid only came out this past summer.

In a powerful YouTube video that received more than 12 million views, the one-time Project Runway judge revealed she had been attracted to girls since age four but always dated men because she was scared of not being accepted by society because of her sexual preference.

I’ve always known since my earliest memories. This is not something that I chose. It is something that is a part of me and has always been a part of me.’

She went on to say:

I want to live my life unapologetically because I am proud of who I am and I am not going to apologize for who I am anymore. This is the life that I have always lived in my head and now it’s real.”

#DearMe ‘Guess what? You’re gay’ – What Advice Would You Give Your Younger Self?

#DearMe is currently trending on Twitter, but what is behind the message.

Well, it is a YouTube new campaign, launched ahead of International Women’s Day, that encourages women to write letters and make videos with the advice they’d have given their teenage selves.

It’s part of a YouTube campaign in celebration of International Women’s Day (on Sunday March 8) to “empower young girls everywhere”.

So if you could go back in time and share some wise words with your teenage self, what would you say?

Prominent YouTube bloggers – and Youtube’s CEO, Susan Wojcicki – kicked off the campaign. But now thousands of women are getting involved, including Hannah Hart and Felicia Day.

Low Budget Valentines Gift Ideas

It’s not how much money you spend on Valentine’s Day, it’s the thought that counts… right? Right?!! Oh cr*p.

With Valentine’s Day swiftly approaching, it’s time to get a move on when it comes to finding that perfect gift. However, what with the holiday season having just ended, we know that funds can be pretty tight.

No problems, Hannah Hart has got you covered. There’s something for every one and your wallet will thank you!
