Ellen DeGeneres and Lady Gaga Bring The Love In New Campaign

In a time of division and partisan bitterness, love is what we need right now.

That was the overarching message in new a new campaign from The Love Project which has enlisted Lady Gaga, Ellen DeGeneres and ally Pharrell Williams to share what love means.

The spot – a collaboration with makeup giant Revlon – was created to benefit charities like The Born This Way Foundation, The Trevor Project, From One Hand to AnOTHER and The Women’s Heart Alliance.

Gaga co-founded the nonprofit Born This Way Foundation in 2011 along with her mother, Cynthia Germanotta, with a stated mission of “empowering youth” and “inspiring bravery” through kindness, sharing resources on mental wellness and creating a positive climate in schools.

The goal of the Theloveproject2017 is to spread the message that

the more love we put out there, the more the benefits multiply for all of us… It’s why The Love Project’s mission is to grow more love in the world by asking you to share you #Lovein3Words.”

Thousands March To Protest Trump’s Presidential Victory

Less than 24 hours after it was called that Donald Trump had defeated Hillary Clinton to become the 45th President of the United States, demonstrators have been held in several US cities.

Many shouted the slogan “Not my president”. Others burned orange-haired effigies of the businessman.

In New York, thousands – including Lady Gaga – marched on Trump Tower, attacking Trump’s policies on immigration, gay rights and reproductive rights.

Gaga, a prominent supporter of Clinton, was photographed protesting outside Trump Tower in New York City in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The star stood on a sanitation truck, holding a sign reading ‘Love trumps hate.’ A Trump Tower clock can be seen in the background.

Thousands of people also poured into the streets of downtown Los Angeles, and hundreds of them later spilled onto the 101 Freeway, shutting down traffic as they forcefully denounced Trumps victory.

In Chicago, crowds blocked the entrance to Trump Tower, chanting: “No Trump, No KKK, No Fascists USA”

In Portland, Oregon, demonstrators temporarily closed an interstate highway.

In Washington DC, protesters held a candlelit vigil.

Demonstrations also took place in Philadelphia, Boston, Seattle and San Francisco, among other cities.

Trump is due to meet current White House incumbent Barack Obama for talks aimed at ensuring a smooth transition.

Mr Obama – who had branded Mr Trump “unfit” for office and campaigned against him – urged all Americans to accept the result of Tuesday’s election.

We are now all rooting for his success in uniting and leading the country.”

Defeated Mrs Clinton also told supporters Mr Trump had to be given a “chance to lead”.

Stars United To Honour The Orlando Victims (Video)

In the past weeks, the tragic shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando has weighed heavily on all of our thoughts.

With 49 victims, the hashtag #SayTheirNames has served as a way to memorialise those who lost their lives.

However, now Ryan Murphy (the man behind Glee and American Horror Story) has directed a tribute video for HRC, featuring actors of both shows, along with a host of other A List stars, in a touching tribute to honour the victims of the mass shooting in Orlando.

In the video, 49 celebs wear black and sit against a black backdrop, each one reciting a brief biography of one of the victims.

Lady Gaga, Caitlyn Jenner, Matt Bomer, and Laverne Cox are just a few of the many names who came together to tell these stories. They also use the platform to call for an end to hate crimes and gun violence.

Dozens of high-profile artists, politicians and prominent members of the queer community have taken to social media to voice their horror at this weekend’s massacre, which left 50 patrons dead at Pulse, a prominent gay nightclub in Orlando.

While some celebrities simply offered their condolences and emphasized their support of the victims and their families, many others demanded the reform of U.S. gun laws, a move they insist could prevent future violent deaths.

US soccer star, Abby Wambach, was arrested over the weekend for not stopping at a red light and failing a sobriety test. According to her Facebook post, the incident happened in Portland, Oregon, after dinner at a friend’s house.

Lady Gaga Delivers Show-Stopping Oscars Performance Of ‘Til It Happens To You’

Lady Gaga delivered one of the most powerful and poignant performances of her song Til It Happens to You at the 88th Academy Awards.

The song was co-written by Diane Warren for the film The Hunting Ground, about rape on college campuses. Gaga started off the performance by playing solo on piano, but midway through the song, numerous sexual assault survivors appeared on stage beside her. On their forearms were words and phrases like “survivor” and “not your fault.”

Gaga was visibly moved at the end, with her performance garnering a standing ovation.

The 29-year-old previously spoke out about her own direct experiences of sexual violence in 2014, revealing she was raped by a music producer while she was still a teenager.

Earlier this week, she became one of the numerous female musicians to publicly announce her support for Kesha, who’s injunction request against her label Sony Music was denied, despite the singer’s allegations of abuse at the hands of her long-time producer and collaborator, Dr Luke.

Gaga’s emotional performance of ‘Til It Happens to You’ was introduced by US Vice President Joe Biden, who used the appearance to speak about the Obama administration’s ‘It’s On Us’ campaign to tackle sexual assault. You can watch the performance in full below:

This year has already seen Gaga win an Emmy for her performance in American Horror Story: Hotel, and stun audiences with her Superbowl National Anthem rendition and Grammys tribute performance to David Bowie.

But despite the stunning rendition, Gaga missed out on the Oscar for Best Original Song, which went to Sam Smith for his Bond theme Writing’s on the Wall.

Tough Choice! Cate Blanchett & Rooney Mara Nominated In Same Category For Movie ‘Carol’ At Golden Globes

Hurrah, the nominations for the 2016 Golden Globes Awards, have been announced and leading the charge is Carol – a lesbian romance set in the 1950s – with both Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara being nominated in the same category for Best Actress.

Also vying for the award is Brie Larson (Room), Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn) and Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl)

Carol is also nominated for Best Director, Original Score and Best Motion Picture.

Lily Tomlin has been nominated for two awards, Best Actress in a Television Comedy for her role in Frankie and Grace, and Best Actress in Comedy Movie for her role in Grandma.

She will be competing with Jennifer Lawrence, Melissa McCarthy, Amy Schumer, Maggie Smith for  The Lady in the Van.

The winners will be announced in a live televised ceremony on January 10, hosted by Ricky Gervais. This year will be the first since 2012 that is not hosted by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, but Gervais is no stranger to the stage; next year will be his fourth time as host.

Angela Bassett Talks About Kissing Lady Gaga In New American Horror Story

Angela Bassett stopped by Access Hollywood to chat about American Horror Story: Hotel, and she touched on her on-screen romance with Lady Gaga, as well as her history with kissing women (in college).

In the upcoming season of American Horror Story: Hotel Angela – who was nominated for an Emmy for her performance in AHS: Coven – plays Ramona Royale, an actress who is the lover of Gaga’s character, the Countess, the owner of the Hotel Cortez, a glamorous but deadly creature who lives on a healthy diet of sex and blood.

First time I met her, she had a party for the cast and crew and that was a first meeting… she was in this beautiful gown that was sort of see-though and vintage and a diamond necklace… and I’m just trying to be cool. She said, ‘Are you nervous? I hear you are nervous.’ I said, ‘Yes.’ She said, ‘Don’t be nervous. I know about these things. I have been there.’ I was like, ‘Okay!'”

The first of 13 episodes premieres on FX on October 7.

Lady Gaga Brings Bisexual Character to ‘American Horror Story’

After much hype, the creators of American Horror Story have revealed that Lady Gaga’s new character will be bisexual.

The series co-creator Ryan Murphy said that the pop star’s character will be a ‘wealthy, fashionable hotelier with a “nefarious plan” – and that her character will have steamy relationships with both male and female characters.

Lady Gaga plays a character who has relationships with Matt [Bomer] and Angela [Bassett] and Cheyenne [Jackson].

It’s sexier than any season we’ve done, particularly because of the Gaga of it, so I would say scarier and sexier.”

The series will see the return of Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett and Chloe Sevigny.

Lady Gaga To Star In The Next Season Of American Horror Story

Great news – its been announced that Lady Gaga will star in the next season of American Horror Story.

The singer made the announcement in a black-and-white video on her Twitter page.

Gaga previously acting roles include the film Machete Kills, and 2014’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For – but her stint on American Horror Story will be her first major TV acting role.

The series will be titled American horror Story: Hotel, and is set to air in October.

US Supreme Court to Finally Address Same-Sex Marriage Debate Across All America

Setting the stage for a potentially historic ruling, the Supreme Court has announcedit will decide whether same-sex couples have a right to marry everywhere in America under the Constitution.

In a move that sets the stage for a historic final decision, the court said it would convene in April to study cases in Ohio, Michigan, Tennessee and Kentucky, which have banned same-sex marriage.

Justices will address two questions: whether states are bound by the Constitution to license a same-sex marriage, and whether a state is required to recognize same-sex marriages which took place out-of-state.

If they answer yes, same-sex marriage will become legal in all 50 US states.

“That will urge the Supreme Court to make marriage equality a reality for all Americans. It is time for our nation to take another critical step forward to ensure the fundamental equality of all Americans—no matter who they are, where they come from, or whom they love.”

The Justice Department made the decision to advocate for same-sex marriages several years ago.

“Marriage has returned to the US Supreme Court faster than virtually any other issue in American history, and there’s a simple reason for that. Committed and loving gay and lesbian couples, their children, and the fair-minded American people refuse to wait a single day longer.

We’ve reached the moment of truth … now the nine justices of the Supreme Court have an urgent opportunity to guarantee fairness for countless families, once and for all.”

In a landmark decision in June 2013, the Supreme Court struck down a law denying federal benefits to homosexual couples by defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman. In doing so, it cleared the way for married gay and lesbian couples to enjoy the same rights and privileges under federal law as their straight counterparts.

 

Lady Gaga Discusses Her ‘Gay Beginnings’ LGBT Activism in New Interview

A good many people around the world know of the name ‘Lady Gaga’. Tipped as the equally as blonde, equally as Italian and equally as talented version of Madonna, the singer has made her name with both her outlandish fashion choices and her incredibly catchy, chart topping hits.

But in the LGBT community she is also known for her activism. Once coming out as bisexual (before scuttling back into the closet, announcing during Atlanta Pride that she is ‘straight’), she set up the LGBT friendly ‘Born This Way Foundation’ charity and it’s for these reasons that Lady Gaga has long been regarded as an LGBT ally.

It makes sense then that she’s continuously asked about her impact on the LGBT community, but even before she became vocal about LGBT rights her music label reportedly thought that she was ‘too gay’.

Speaking on French TV show “C à Vous”, the singer explained that

“I was told you’re too gay, you dance too gay, your clothes are too gay, everything is too gay and I told them, well there are homosexuals in the world and you know my intentions with my music is not to make money or be famous.”

While it’s unclear what her label meant exactly by ‘too gay’ (surely good pop music and sequinned leotards are universal?) but it is very apparent that Lady Gaga isn’t interested in how mainstream music perceives her.

And, on the topic of her music, she also added that

“My intention is to spread love. My whole intention… in every song, in every concert I talk about it, you know. It is beautiful, these images, these two boys who express their love for each other and are equal but if you think about the gay community of the older generation who did not grow up like that, who suffered, some has no money, some did not work, they didn’t have the same opportunities in the 50’s, 70’s than now.”

Spreading love is wonderful, we can’t argue with that, but arguably there are allies a little bit better than Lady Gaga. She has come under fire for racism regarding some of her songs and fashion choices (her song ‘Burqa’ and her use of blackface are just two examples), her use of trans slurs are less than admirable and she also refers to gay people as “the gays” which understandably doesn’t sit right with lots of people.

Nonetheless, I can’t really argue with that quote about spreading love so let’s hope she decides to do that albeit in a less offensive way in the future.

Our Top 5 Celebrity Ice Bucket Challenges – #IceBucketChallenge

Your Facebook feed has become full of Videos and images of celebrities such as Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake and Oprah, taking part in the ice bucket challenge to raise awareness for the neurodegenerative illness ALS.

The challenge involves people pouring cold water, over their heads and posting the videos and images to social media. The participant then nominates someone to complete the challenge often in a set time frame, if they don’t they have to donate to the charity, or both.

Launched by the ALS Association in the US, to raise money and awareness of ALS or motor neurone disease as it’s known in the UK, the campaign has raised $4 million since 29 July, according to the charity.
