Great First Date Ideas For Your New Lady

You finally asked her out and she said yes! Now all you have to do is arrange the perfect first date. Don’t worry; here are excellent first date ides that will ensure you get a second date.

Go for a walk – yes really!

You don’t have to do something very complex in your first date. Most people think that a first date is all about impressing their new favorite person. Wrong. Take this time to get to know each other better. A walk around town, in the park or to the local attractions is not only delightful but will give you ample time to talk to each other.

Festivals and fairs

If you are lucky enough to have a festival or a fair going on nearby, go for it. Festivals offer a lot of fun, games and activities perfect for a first date.

Museums, exhibitions, aquariums

Strolling through a gallery of paintings with your date is relaxing and makes you seem sophisticated. Aquariums with their weird, slimy and toothy creatures also make for an interesting day out with plenty of topics at your disposal. This can be extended to zoos and amusement parks.

Theatre

Going to the theatre is ideal. First, you have to dress up so you will both be looking your best. The theatre is also a classy first date and unlike a movie it has an intermediary where you can chat and get to know each other better.

Coffee

A coffee date is very comfortable and a guaranteed safe zone, plus you won’t have to worry about the expense and complexity of a four-course meal! Look for a spacious coffee joint with a great view.

One-hour classes

This is a sure winner. Women love women who are creative and think outside the box. There are plenty of one-hour classes available. Be it painting, pottery, drawing or anything else. Just make sure it’s not too complicated and there is a feeling of achievement at the end.

Adventure date

If you are the adventurous type go for rock climbing in an indoor gym or hiking in the nearby fields. If you live near the coast: snorkeling and sea diving are among one of your many options. Confirm with your date first if she’s okay with the activity first, you don’t want to take her deep sea diving and she’s hydrophobic!

Music show

The conversation is of outmost importance. Sometimes though music can balance things out nicely. Don’t go for rock or heavy metal, no. Look for something mellow with lots of dancing. This will be a memorable event.

5 Signs Your Girlfriend is Not over Her Ex

It is very painful to be in a relationship with someone who would rather be with someone else. It is a waste of time and not fair to both parties at all. If your partner is not giving 100% to the relationship but is still reliving an old relationship, then your union is not going anywhere.

So, how can you tell if your partner is not over her ex girlfriend and save yourself the heartache that is sure to come down the road?

1. She is distant and confused

You catch her staring into an empty space. Sometimes you get the feeling that something is wrong with her. When you ask her she says nothing or it is something she has to deal with alone. After a few minutes or a bit later she comments about her ex. She is thinking about her, a lot.

2. Excitement

She gets really excited when her name is brought up. If she bumps into her it’s as if she’s a celebrity. She becomes animated. She likes to go to places she used to frequent with her ex. Maybe she is secretly hoping to bump into her again.

3. My ex this, My ex that

She constantly twists conversations to talk about her ex. She enquires from friends about her whereabouts and what she is up to now. It seems like she is being very open and honest about her former relationship when she talks about her to you but no. She still has the hots for her.

4. Facebook

She still has her photos in her account. She regularly comments on her exes updates. You might even see the awkward message from a friend who still think they are a couple asking how the relationship is going.

5. Friends

Her friends do not know who you are, but they know her ex.

Oklahoma Marriage Ban Unconstitutional, Rules Federal Court

Federal Court Rules Oklahoma Marriage Ban Unconstitutional

The U.S. Court of Appeals has ruled that Oklahoma’s ban on marriage equality is unconstitutional, and that couples should be able to wed. This is the second time a three-judge panel has found that a state’s ban is unconstitutional. In June, the same panel came to the same conclusion around Utah’s ban on same-sex marriage.

Now marriages for same-sex couples both in Oklahoma and Utah will remain on hold. This is the 26th consecutive federal or state court ruling to come down on the side of marriage equality since the Windsor ruling in June 2013.

According to the Human Rights Campaign, the 2-1 decision was written by Judge Carlos Lucero, who was joined by President George W. Bush appointee Judge Jerome Holmes. Those jurists were the same who voted to strike down Utah’s marriage ban in the June decision.

The state of Oklahoma has the chance to request an appeal before the full bench of the Tenth Circuit. Alternately, the case could also bypass that and be appealed directly to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Couples Mary Bishop and Sharon Baldwin, and Gay Phillips and Susan Barton, sued the state of Oklahoma in November 2004 for enforcing an amendment to the Oklahoma constitution prohibiting the state from performing or recognizing marriages for same-sex couples.

In January, two days after Judge Terence Kern’s ruling in favor of the plaintiffs, the state filed an appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals.

The Bishop case in Oklahoma was scheduled for appeal with the Utah marriage case, Kitchen v. Herbert. The appeals on both cases were heard by the same three-judge panel of the Tenth Circuit, in April.

Court Rules that Indiana Must Recognise Terminally Ill Lesbian’s Marriage

Prior to the current flood of in-state support for same-sex marriage, in which several states in the United States of America have had their same-sex marriage bans struck down by judges who have deemed the bans as a violation of the United States Constitution (and are therefore unlawful), judges in the state of Indiana made waves back in May when it was forced to recognise the marriage of Niki Quasney – who has terminal ovarian cancer – and Amy Sandler. At the time, the judge said that there was “no reason” to delay the recognition and in some cases it paved the way for last week’s decision by US District Judge Richard Young to throw out Indiana’s ban on same-sex marriages altogether. However, as the appeals court recently saw that ban reinstated, it may be back to square one for Quasney, Sandler and other same-sex couples like them.

The appeals court in question saw that the ban would be put in place until the appeal is over. It’s unclear as to whether or not the appeal would be successful and therefore bring back Indiana’s same-sex marriage ban full-time, but that ruling did mean that Quasney and Sandler’s marriage was no longer recognised by the state. Thankfully, the ruling was partially overturned by the 7th Circuit Court of appeals meaning good news for the couple at least as their marriage will now be recognised once more.

Paul D. Castillo, Staff Attorney for Lambda Legal said of the rulings,

“It is time for the State of Indiana to leave Niki and Amy in peace and not subject them and their marriage to any more stress and uncertainty as this case proceeds. We’re thrilled that the court ruled in favour of this family as Niki battles stage four ovarian cancer. We will continue to fight until no family in Indiana needs to worry about their marriage being stripped away from them and all Hoosiers have the freedom to marry.”

Hopefully the stress will be kept off of the couple in the future but other couples will possibly have to wait until the end of Summer for a definitive decision on Indiana’s same-sex marriage ban, given that the appeals court is waiting until the 5th of August to hear the case. We’ll keep you posted on developments in the case once we know more.

78 Year-old, Former Soap Star, Amanda Barrie to Marry Female Partner

Former Coronation Street star Amanda Barrie has announced her engagement to her female partner – 66-year-old crime novelist Hilary Bonner, with whom she lives in Somerset.

“As our combined ages will be 144 at the time of this cosmic event, we felt we might be cutting it a bit fine if we left it much longer… In any case, our dog was feeling insecure.”

Amanda Barrie

The retired actress, is best known for her role as Alma Halliwell on the soap, with her appearances spanning two decades.

Barrie, who came out as bisexual in 2002, was previously married to theatre director Robin Hunter until his death in 2004.

Gay Coronation Street actor Charlie Condou is also due to depart the soap later this month, previously teasing that his impending exit “will certainly be explosive”.

Coronation Street’s first transgender character, Hayley Cropper, was written out of the show earlier this year, after 16 years.

Student Expelled from Christian College for Marrying her Female Partner

Christian Minard, a 22-year-old student has been expelled from an Oklahoma Christian college, because she broke the school’s “lifestyle covenant” by marrying her female partner.

RNS-STUDENT-EXPELLEDMinard attended Southwestern Christian University, which is affiliated with the International Pentecostal Holiness Church. However, when an administrator saw the wedding pictures on Facebook of her marriage to her same-sex partner Kadyn Park earlier this year, the school initiated disciplinary proceedings.

Minard has now received a letter informing her she has been expelled from the college for breaking the school’s “lifestyle covenant”, which prohibits “homosexual behaviour”.

The letter from Brad Davis, the school’s vice president of student life, reads:

“I was informed that you recently married someone of the same sex and saw a few pictures from Facebook… Of course, this is opposing to our view as an International Pentecostal Holiness denominational university as well as the Lifestyle Covenant that all students must agree and sign. I have to uphold the Lifestyle Covenant at SCU and confront you with our position. Due to this recent event, you will not be able to attend SCU in the future.”

Brad Davis, Vice President of Student Life

In response,  Minard told CNN:

“Students violate parts of that covenant all the time, but they don’t get expelled… I didn’t even get a hearing, just a letter to my parents. There isn’t a similar program at an area university, so I’d have to change my program of study. And, being one semester from graduation means I have taken all my electives. I’ll lose all those credits if I transfer. Once I graduated, I was willing to go wherever life took me. I have a strong faith in God. And I believe you can still have faith in God and live a gay lifestyle.”

Celebrating Female Beauty – John Legend’s New Single ‘You & I’

John Legend has premiered the music video for new single, You & I (Nobody In The World), that includes women of all kinds.

Directed by Mishka Kornai, the video celebrates all kinds of female beauty as it shows a number of different women studying themselves and their own insecurities. That means it has a lesbian couple, Tig Notaro and Laverne Cox among many other beautiful ladies of all ages, shapes, colours and identities.

A documentary called ‘When I Look In The Mirror’ has also been created, which explores the stories of the women in the clip further – with the hope that both pieces will help raise awareness and increase engagement in the #OperationGirl Charity Challenge.

“We live in a world where egregious injustices occur regularly against girls and women. We have a responsibility to take action and disrupt the conditions that allow for such tragedies to occur. Through #OperationGirl we hope to amplify the voices and impact of the many organisations doing great work on behalf of girls and women.”

Kathy Bates Discusses Her Lesbian Role In ‘Tammy’

LGBTQ favourite Kathy Bates talked to Michigan gay weekly Pride Source about her lesbian role in ‘Tammy’ – also staring Melissa McCarthy (who I’m addicted too), Susan Sarandon, Dan Aykroyd.

In ‘Tammy’, Bates plays Lenore, a lesbian woman in a relationship with Susan (played by Sandra Oh of Grey’s Anatomy.)

“She brought a lot of love and warmth, and it was her idea to have wedding rings — because of course! — which I hadn’t thought about, and also, really, to think that our relationship is the healthiest relationship in the movie. It was important for me to be able to ad-lib how difficult it is, or was, especially 20, 25 years ago, for lesbian women to come out,” she recalled of one scene she shares with McCarthy. “I think almost more difficult than for men to come out as gay.”

Kathy Bates

As for who her dream co-star would be if she tackles another lesbian role, Ms Bates said…

“I shared a plane trip with Uma Thurman once and I thought she was pretty cool. I could see doing a movie with her and having a lesbian relationship — although I’m much too old for her!”

Open Your Eyes to new LGBTQ film ‘Be Your Wo/Man’

Be Your Wo/Man – An optometrist’s assistant strangely obsessed with eyes falls in love with her roommate’s split-personality.

My goal is to tell a story about acceptance. After viewing the film, I hope for others to embrace the idea of keeping their eyes open to the world. There is so much beauty in diversity, which I believe we often just look past. We don’t crack open our eyes, and we often tint them with glasses. I think if we opened our eyes more, we may discover things about the world that we are otherwise blind to see.

Joe Wielosinski

Film synopsis:

Aislinn Celia is a 24-year-old aspiring photographer obsessed with eyes. After relocating from Honolulu to Chicago in hopes of moving on from her past, Aislinn begins work at an optometrist’s office. There, she meets her overbearing boss, Dr. Brianna Navarro, and her quirky, overexcited coworker, Sue Ellen Locke.

Even more conflict rises when Aislinn meets Dillon Alter, a cute guy in her apartment complex. A romantic tryst finds Aislinn waking the following morning next to a woman with features similar to Dillon. Aislinn learns that Dillon has a female split personality named Charlotte Belle, triggered when he is sexually active or aroused. In an ironic twist of fate, Aislinn and Dillon/Charlotte are roommates.

At first, Charlotte annoys Aislinn. Not before long, an intense romance is developed between the two. Charlotte is open, fun, free-spirited; everything Aislinn desires in a relationship. Soon, she finds herself madly in love with Charlotte, craving her more than Dillon. Not all is fine, as Dillon’s therapist has a plan to help “cure” Dillon of his issue.

It’s a love triangle between two people. Which one will end up with a broken heart?

I hope viewers of the film will be more willing to open themselves to others, even if they are different. I’ve found that the people with ideas and backgrounds opposite of mine are the ones I often get along with the most.

Veteran Lesbian Couple to Demand Married Recognition

Nancy Robrahn and Jennie Rosenkranz have been together for almost 30 years and are both aged over 65. This weekend they will travel from their home state, South Dakota, in order to get married in Minnesota, a state where same-sex marriage is permitted. They will then return to SD and demand that the government recognise their union.

According to the law firm hired by the couple, Robrahn, 68, and Rosenkranz, 72, will be married at Minneapolis’ Community of Christ Church by the city mayor. Their four children and six grandchildren will be present at the ceremony.

When they go back to South Dakota, the couple will begin litigation against the state government to repeal 2006 legislation banning same-sex marriage.

‘We are approaching the time when end of life decisions and plans need to be made,’ said Robrahn. ‘There are many federal protections that will become available to us through this Minnesota marriage. We hope to see the day when couples like us don’t have to travel out of South Dakota to marry.’

Robrahn and Rosenkranz are not the only gay couple pursuing a civil rights suit against the state of South Dakota. Their plaintiffs in this case are two other same-sex couples. There is hope amongst the LGBT community in the state that their legal action will lead to a broader amendment to the constitution of the state that will, once and for all, legalise and normalise same-sex marriage.

If such a law is passed, Montana, Alaska and North Dakota will be the only states in the Union not to either recognise same-sex marriages or to have an equality suit pending. According to the advocacy group Freedom to Marry, right across the USA there are 65 cases seeking marriage equality in over 30 states and territories.

As of midnight the UK Will Officially Recognise same sex marriages

Yes that is correct -t he UK will recognise some marriages at the stroke of midnight, which will be two weeks before the first ceremonies will take place. So at at midnight, Celia Kitzinger and Sue Wilkinson will become one of the first same-sex couples to have their marriage recognised as legal under UK law.

Same-sex couples getting married in England and Wales will have to wait until Saturday 29th March to hold their ceremony but the change in law means couples who married overseas will have their unions automatically recognised from tomorrow onwards. This includes Celia Kitzinger and Sue Wilkinson, who married in Canada in 2003 and spent the last decade campaigning for their partnership to be recognised in Britain.
Tomorrow, due to the government’s decision to bring forward the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act, that day will finally come.

There’s no paperwork and no formal process. But when the day switches from Wednesday to Thursday all overseas same-sex marriages will at last be legally recognised; and for the first time there will be couples in Britain who are able to call themselves husband and husband, or wife and wife in the eyes of the law.
