My Favourite Picks From Kitsch Kandy’s Summer Sale

I don’t usually get too excited about big sales (especially lately while I’m saving for my next big holiday, and making an effort to be especially frugal).

But when Kitsch Kandy has their summer sale, you just don’t ignore it. clothes

Kitsch Kandy is a web store that aims to cater for those whose style and personality does not conform to the traditional thoughts of society – women and femininity, males and masculinity.

They offer both home furnishings and fashion items that are aimed perfectly at lesbians and others in “marginalized” groups. While these gift items don’t scream “super gay”, they are designed to make you feel more comfortable in your own skin – whatever that means for you.

From jackets to underwear and T-Shirts to jeans and home goods, there are plenty of new items available at hugely discounted prices.

clothesWhen the sale event comes to an end, all items return to their regular prices. So these aren’t end-of-season or overstock items they’re trying to get rid of. They are brand new items on sale for a very limited time.

Plus they’re also offering a HUGE 20% extra off this week, which includes sale items too. Just use the promo code EXTRA20

It is, by far and away, the best time to snag new goodies at majorly discounted prices. And because I adore this sale oh so much, I decided to share it with all of you.

The items you see above are the ones I am specifically eyeing. Some are way out of my price range, but hey, I can still look at them, right?

I’m going to treat myself to a couple of the more realistically price items, although I’m still not able to completely narrow it down. I need to get on it though – I don’t want to miss out.

Who else is taking advantage of the best sale of the year? Any other Kitsch Kandy fans in the house?

14 Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas For You And Your Girl

Valentine’s Day is a special time of year. Whether you think it’s the day when you’re supposed to celebrate the fullest extent of your love or you think it’s a day for companies to mark up the price on “romantic crap” they sell all year anyway, it’s generally accepted that you’re supposed to buy your partner something for the occasion.

Most people go with flowers, chocolate, and jewelry, but we know your girlfriend is more special than that. No – she deserves something spectacularly different, right? Well, lucky you – this is one of the reasons Kitsch Kandy was created!

But the “perfect gift” for your girlfriend is going to depend on what message you want to send her. (And obviously you do have a message, since you didn’t want to get her the same thing every ex of hers has, right?)

So… What are you trying to say?

“You light up my life.”

l-e-d-circus-lights-love-p97-491_zoom

I strongly believe in the power of good lighting. Whether you’re trying to set the mood or just trying to see your books better, light is super important and we usually take advantage of it.

In the same way, we often take for granted the women who make our lives better. She does so much for you, and you just sort of figure she’s always going to. But if you don’t show her that you appreciate the things she does, she might not stick around that long!

‘Crazy In Love’ Heart Shaped Light Box

Sometimes, the best way to show her how you feel is quite literally. If you want to bring brightness to her world and also tell her how much she means to you, the Crazy In Love light box is a great choice. Available in pink and grey to suit any taste, this light is small and can be powered with the included cord or with AA batteries (not included).

‘Love’ Vegas Lights

There’s something cozy and charming about these Vegas lights – and if your girlfriend is also cozy and charming, you’ll be able to show her exactly how you feel, in a way that complements her décor! Our Love Vegas Lights come in multiple color variations to match whatever style she has in her home. Just like our other light boxes, these can be powered with the included cord or AA batteries (not included). Consider getting the matching Love Heart Vegas Light to make sure the message is heard loud and clear.

“You’ve helped me grow.”

If your partner has influenced you to be a better person, whether directly or indirectly, it can be an empowering feeling. Sometimes we don’t know how much better our lives could be until someone comes along and inspires us to make it happen.

Then, one day, someone will show us how much we are capable of. Chances are, she wasn’t doing it for the recognition, and maybe she didn’t even do it on purpose. But isn’t that all the more reason to let her know how much it means to you?

‘Happiness Is A Form Of Courage’ Flowerpot

Sometimes it’s hard to remember that the woman who lifts others the most might not be able to lift herself up. Remind her that she has the right to be happy, too – and that beautiful things happen when she smiles. The Happiness is a Form of Courage flower pot offers a reason for her to be happy. Pro tip: it’s actually scientifically proven that keeping living plants inside the home or office is better for your health, focus, and overall sense of peace.

“You bring me peace.”

HomeBanner_03

Everyone wants to be with someone who makes them feel safe, calm, and relaxed. Maybe we don’t want peace and tranquility all the time (hey, angry sex is pretty nice sometimes), but there are going to be times when you just want to relax and smile. If your girlfriend brings you that sense of peace, you should try to give it to her, too.

One of the simplest ways to do this is to give her a good massage. I know I’m especially guilty of taking every massage thrown my way and forgetting to return the favor. (Although, I’ll never say no if she asks for one.) Just in case massages aren’t really your thing, or you’re looking for something to go along with the massage, we’ve got a few items that might help.

Bath Bombs and Fizzes

If your girlfriend likes taking baths, even occasionally, bath bombs are a luxurious way to help her relax and release the stress within. Whether you choose the sensual rose & petals, the soothing lavender heart, the simple chamomile & honey heart, or the warm rose, lavender, and patchouli cake, melting one of these fizzes in her bath is sure to melt her heart, too. Try giving her a combination – we have many more varieties available, as well!

Herbal Soaps

Some women shy away from giving soaps and perfumes as a gift, because it might send the message that you think your partner smells. However, most women I know would love to know that they smell irresistible to their partner. Go with an herbal soap, as they often have added aromatherapy benefits, aside from the marvelous scents and skin-softening qualities. If you want one with a particularly romantic touch, this handmade soap also has flower petals in it – lovely!

“You keep me on track.”
290f1680fa51477f1198def0bb7177cf

Every now and then, things come up that might make us fall out of sync with what we need to be doing. If your girlfriend helps keep you motivated, so that you keep reaching for your goals, she’s extra special – and she deserves to be treated as such.

One of the simplest ways to thank a woman for keeping you moving forward is to help her take a little time off. If you can help her out with household errands, or even just make a simple grocery run, chances are, it’ll be greatly appreciated. If all you can offer is moral support, then don’t skimp on that!

A Clock

Okay, maybe clocks aren’t the most common gift – but that’s part of what makes them charming and romantic. Chances are, she’s got a place to put a beautiful clock. Maybe she’d like the George Nelson ‘Sunburst’ Clock in her dining room, the Newgate Bubble Desk Clock in her study, and the Pastel Rainbow Retro Ball Clock in her bathroom. I think our society is largely relying too much on our cell phones for everything – and the gift of a clock gives her freedom from one of the tethers of the technological age. (All of our clocks are battery powered, and there are more options available in our Home Living section.)

“I’m comfortable with you.”

bloomingville-quilted-round-cushion-rose-melange-2

Sometimes, we take comfort for granted. This can be particularly true if you and your partner are especially comfortable together – after a while, we let our mind tell us we’re bored. But we don’t think comfort needs to be a bad thing. In fact, I’m betting there have been a few times when your relationship thrived on the comfort you shared – so show her that you’re absolutely comfortable with her, and that’s a good thing.

Of course, one of my favorite non-material ways to show my partner I’m comfortable with her is by cuddling in the nude. The skin-to-skin contact stimulates the brain’s production of oxytocin, which allows the two of you to bond and develop a greater intimacy. (Plus, who doesn’t enjoy seeing their partner in the nude?)

A Sweatshirt

If you want a more material way to show her you’re comfortable with her, a sweatshirt can be a great way to keep her cozy. It might seem like it goes against the idea of being naked around each other, but the fact of the matter is – you can’t always run around in the nude. Sometimes, you actually have to go outside. Consider The Kiss sweatshirt to let her wear your kisses all over town (even when you’re apart). This Beautiful Sweatshirt may be a good choice if you want to let her know she’s gorgeous, too. If she needs a gentle reminder to comfort herself, too, the Good Vibes Sweatshirt is cozy and warm, which is sure to promote good vibes from within.

‘Make Magic Happen’ Tee

Sweatshirts are great, but sometimes your girlfriend can’t wear them all year long, right? Well, to cover the rest of the year, we recommend this cozy tee that lets her know she’s magical to you.

A Cushion

I’m not sure about you, but my girlfriend likes to nap. (She’s actually napping right now, as it happens.) While she’d probably rather use me as a pillow, many women enjoy cushions and pillows for a variety of reasons. We think it’s best to choose one that complements her style and offers a comfortable place to lay your head. Whether she’s interested in our Trichord Cushion, Camellia’s Cushion here, or maybe one with cute animals, we offer a wide variety to suit any taste. (My personal favorite right now is this mint bird pillow… Absolutely adorable!)

So, which is your favorite? Let us know in the comments!

Introducing Kitsch Kandy; Home Décor And Tomboy Fashion

Kitsch Mix has been a part of your family for 18 months now, and in that time we’ve noticed a lot.

2 years ago, we formed to fill a big gaping hole in the LGBT community – that lack of real lesbian visibility in media. So often we compete in a very male dominated LGBT market. We share that space, but we seldom own it.

We looked to change this, and for the last year our ever-growing team has worked hard to re-shape this landscape and offer you something new.

As an independent brand, owned and run by women, we are looking to build a community that other women can benefit from, and feel part of. We’ve done this through this website, and our TV channel, but now we’re moving into a new arena: Fashion.

Enter Kitsch Kandy, a web store that aims to cater for those whose style and personality does not conform to the traditional thoughts of society – women and femininity, males and masculinity.

Stocksy_txp242f0ebbrEn000_Small_831482

We offer both home furnishings and fashion items that are aimed perfectly at lesbians and others in “marginalized” groups. While these gift items don’t scream “super gay”, they are designed to make you feel more comfortable in your own skin – whatever that means for you.

We believe that style and fashion are not always the same – and if we had to choose, we’d pick style every time. We believe that your personal style should be a reflection of your inner self, as opposed to covering it up. And we believe that a designer doesn’t have to be well-known to be wonderful.

12341535_885265014861276_3308903689263380335_n

That’s why, each month, we’ll hand-select a designer that caters to our community – offering you options that don’t feel like settling. We strive to turn your shopping trip into an all-out experience – something you’ll look forward to and tell all your friends about.

We want to help you write your own story – one that doesn’t conform to society’s rules of what you should or shouldn’t dress like.

You already know that Kitsch Mix is all about you. We opened our store with our readers in mind, and we look to improve it based on what you think – so share your opinions!

After all, this is for all of us.

Even though this store is still very new, there is a great selection of fun, classy gift ideas for the people who mean the most in your life (even if that’s yourself – as it should be!), and support from the community will help it to grow even further.

So spread the word to all the lesbians you know – Kitsch Kandy is here to stay!

Films That Inspire Our Wardrobe | The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

Rooney Mara’s adaptation of Lisbeth Salander in “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” helped bring the character’s bad-ass attitude – punky looks mixed with a leather-heavy wardrobe – to a mainstream audience. H&M even partnered with the film’s costume designer, Trish Summerville to bring out a range to mark the launch.

Why we love it

The whole style has that gothy-vibe going-on. Its a wearable classic and chic-looking, with a black coat, printed vest, denim jacket with leather sleeves, complete with leather pants and studs.

10 Simple ‘From Your Closet’ Halloween Costumes That Every Lesbian Can Pull Off With Ease

If there is one holiday the gay men beat us at, it’s Halloween. They win for two reasons: First, because they’re willing to spend a lot of precious hours and dollars on something extravagant, sparkly, and beautiful. Secondly, because if they don’t want to put effort into anything they can just wear a jock-strap and go as some sort of professional athlete.

In an effort to help the ladies who love ladies out there, I have compiled a list of costumes that you can assemble mostly from your closet (or your girlfriend’s if you’re lucky enough to have one). And don’t worry; they aren’t the default trucker, cowgirl, and/or lumberjack that we’ve all done last minute.

1. The Dude

From Your Closet: A white v-neck tee, sandals, sunglasses, and plaid board shorts.

You Might Have To Get: A bathrobe

2. Kim Possible

You Might Have To Get: Some fake guns if they’re allowed at the party you’re attending.

4. Hey Arnold

Fantastic – Watch Lesbian Comedian Take-down of a Homophobic Heckler

Last week, lesbian comedian Cameron Esposito shared a story of how a man sitting in the front row at one of her recent shows had decided to inform her of his observation about her appearance.

Called ‘the future of comedy’ by none other than Jay Leno, Cameron Esposito is a fast rising Los Angeles-based standup comic, actor and writer.

“You look like a woman who doesn’t sleep with men! He yelled that at me like as if I don’t know… He yelled that at me like it was going to be a surprise, and an insult.

Here’s the thing: I look like a woman who doesn’t sleep with men because I am a lesbian… and that’s one of the biggest parts… of being a lesbian. And if you’re a lesbian, you’re not bummed about it.”

I have a side mullet! I look like most of Portland’s men! This look [gesturing to her outfit], this is on purpose, to attract women.

So if you’re a guy out there, and you’re like “I’m not sure if I’m into that”, to you I say sir, there is no chance that you are less into me than I am into you.”
