Keyshia Cole Breaks Silence On Lesbian Rumors

Around the time world learned that things were ‘officially’ over between Keyshia Cole and Daniel “Boobie” Gibson, the singer released a telling track titled ‘She’, which hinted of a lesbian love affair. The internet went crazy, with many began to wonder whether or not the track was also hinting that Cole has been seeing women since her split.

However, that this is not the case. Instead, Cole says that for her – ‘She’ is actually about her personal journey to becoming familiar with her own body following her separation from Daniel.

In a recent interview with WGCI radio, Cole said…

“I had to get familiar with myself so I think that song is really, in essence of what that song ‘She’ is about. It’s getting to know yourself. I know people think it’s about girl-on-girl action, which it was at first, and then I kinda switched the lyrics around a little bit.”

Speaking of her separation, she said preparing to go through a divorce has altered her perspective on love and relationships, and that the next time around will place a higher value on being a man’s friend first.

“It’s no way of getting around not knowing if somebody is ready or not. That’s the whole thing about friendship. Whoever I end up with, I’ve been praying that he’s my friend first. If you think about being friends, you’re not going to go and get them hit up. You not gone put them in a situation where you gone get them shot.

You ain’t gone put me in a situation where you make another woman think she got something over me. If we friends and you really love me like you say you do, it’s certain things you’re not going to do out of respect.”

As for what she has been doing to get through the difficult split, Keyshia says she has been directing her energies towards becoming more physically fit.

“Gym, yeah. Just trying to eat better. I did a fast for about 4-5 days…just juicing. I actually loved it. I go in the steam room before I work out for about 10-15 minutes then go work out for about 2 -3 hours then go pick up my son from school and get back to my motherly duties. Right now, working. Trying to stay focused.”

LGBT Electro Pop Band Austra Back With New EP

One of last summer’s surprise hits was ‘Forgive Me’, an overtly lesbian song by Canadian electronic music band Austra. The album it came from, Olympia, was loved by critics and audiences alike. Now they’re back with a highly anticipated four-track EP entitled Habitat.

The group’s singer-songwriter, Katie Stelmanis, said: ‘The songs on Habitat didn’t seem to fit with Feel it Break or Olympia, so we decided to finally put it out as a single along with 3 new instrumental tracks. There’s a lot of live versions of the song online but people have always pressed us to make a proper recording, so we are especially excited to announce these limited-edition physical copies of the EP. It’s a Euro-style computer music experiment produced with love from me, Maya, and Dorian [the other members of Austra].’

Video director Matt Lambert told the press that Habitat ‘explores the fragile and tender moments of anxiety and anticipation that lead up to first intimate contact.’ Critics are already claiming that the new EP is a career best for this Toronto-based group.

In a recent interview, Stelmanis talked about contemporary artists she admired:

‘I have been so inspired by artists like Lorde, teenagers who are so much more comfortable in their own skin than I am. I come from a place where some dude in music actually told me that I didn’t have enough ‘hetero sex appeal’ to be a pro artist, and that really affected me way back when. It’s sometimes hard to see where I fit into the equation among so many female artists that double as fashion models, but having this new movement of women and teens who are championing a variety of bodies and flaws is really inspiring.’

Watch the Fantastic New Single from Heather Peace – ‘We Can Change’

Take a look at Heather Peace new single, ‘We Can Change’, which is the first single to be realised from Heather new album, ‘The Thin Line’ (available to pre-order now).

“It’s my big gay anthem. It’s for every kid that has ever messaged me on social media to say they’re being bullied. It’s basically saying, stop pointing out the differences and we can actually change the world for the better. The line ‘this is just a part of me, it’s not the whole of me’ is really just a dig at those editors who feel like they have to write ‘LESBIAN actress’ or ‘LESBIAN musician’ as the tag line to interviews I do. Just actress or musician is fine. I’ve been playing the piano longer than I’ve been kissing girls and my wife says I’m much better at the piano.”

Heathers second studio album, ‘The Thin Line’ will be released on Monday, 9th June, and to accompany the launch, she will be tour UK on her biggest tour to date – stopping at, Oxford, Norwich, Newcastle, Manchester, Edinburgh, Leeds, Birmingham, London, Brighton and Bristol.

Lesbian Icon: Don’t Miss Out on Missy Elliott

“I gotta feel like what I’m giving the fans is one hundred percent and that it’s game-changing. I don’t just throw out microwave records,”

said Missy Elliott to Nicole James from Fuse TV, explaining Elliott’s hiatus this year.

That might be the best description of the depth and creative integrity of this rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer. She has won multiple Grammy awards for her work, and has collaborated with such superstars as Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, and producer Timbaland (who is also a childhood friend of hers.)

Missy Elliott 02Elliott has been open about her troubled beginnings. She had realized from an early age that she wanted to work in the music industry—and also knew that this was not a career path that she could pursue and be taken seriously or supported. Speaking of serious matters, she was also balancing a troubled home life. Her father abused her mother to the extent that the young Missy Elliott would refuse to attend slumber parties at her friends’ houses in case she returned home to find her mother dead. One day, her mother took initiative and moved out. Elliott says that it was leaving such a grave situation of domestic violence that allowed her mother to accept her own strength and independence, and this change influenced Missy Elliott more positively as she was growing up.

While Elliott herself was voiced pessimism about the representation of gay talents in rap music, she is living evidence of the ability to overcome personal adversity as well as that of society. She had also undergone treatments for an autoimmune disorder known as Graves’ disease.

While lesbian rapper Syd the Kid speculated on Missy Elliott’s orientation in an interview with IKONS, Missy Elliott herself remains private on both her own orientation and her stance on identity politics. Fans await Elliott’s new album with baited breath.
