‘Orange Is The New Black’ season 6: release date, trailer, cast, and everything we know so far

What’s next after THAT cliffhanger?

Summertime is meant for beaches, pool parties, tanning, vacations, flings, friends, and most importantly, taking a mental break.

However, for us, it means the return of Netflix’s hit show Orange is the New Black .

If you need your memory jogged, the final episode of season five – which played out over three days during a riot – saw 10 of Litchfield’s finest, including Alex, Piper and Nicky, in Frieda’s bunker that had just been broken into by the CERT officers, while the rest of Litchfield’s inmates were loaded into buses and heading to new prisons.

Unlike season five, details of the sixth season have been kept closely guarded by Netflix, until this teaser trailer dropped. Dramatic stuff.

In the sixth season of Orange is the New Black, the ladies of Litchfield are say goodbye to their home for the last five seasons after a riot left the detention centre in shambles.

Now Netflix’s leading ladies are headed to a maximum security jail, where the stakes will undoubtedly be much higher.

Orange Is the New Black season 6 spoilers: What can we expect?

Season five may not have had a major inmate death like Poussey in season four, but there were still the notable deaths of Piscatella (Brad William Henke) in the season finale, while fellow officer Humphrey (Michael Torpey) was also killed off, not from Daya (Dascha Polanco) shooting him in the leg, but from Kukudio (Emily Althaus) blowing oxygen bubbles into his IV.

We certainly know of 10 inmates that have to be back and they are the ones left in the converted bunker in Litchfield at the end of season five.

They are: Frieda (Dale Soules), Suzanne (Uzo Aduba), Cindy (Adrienne C Moore), Taystee (Danielle Brooks), Red (Kate Mulgrew), Piper (Taylor Schilling), Alex (Laura Prepon), Nicky, Gloria (Selenis Leyva) and Blanca (Laura Gomez).

The last we saw of Daya, she had turned herself in for shooting Humphreys, and Polanco is being coy about if she’s in season six. “Daya’s on her own; she just committed a crime [and] obviously that will be punished. You might not see her ever again,” she told USA Today.

Other returns likely include Flaca (Jackie Cruz) and Maritza (Diane Guerrero) who were split up on different buses, Maria (Jessica Pimentel) who helped to release the guards captured during the riot (after betraying Gloria) and Lorna (Yael Stone) who surrendered herself to the guards as she is pregnant.

Away from the inmates, we’ll see the likes of Caputo (Nick Sandow) and Linda (Beth Dover) return, the latter who is still a prisoner after failing to convince the guards of her true identity, while Hunter Emery has also confirmed his return as CO Rick Hopper.

In terms of new faces, Bull star Rebecca Knox has joined as new inmate Tina Swope described as a “tough little thing” by the star. “She knows what she wants and she will do whatever it takes to get it,” Knox told Seat42F.

If you weren’t impressed with season five, don’t worry, the show’s creator Jenji Kohan agrees as she described some of the season’s plots as “fan fiction”.

“We had lost a bunch of the original writers,” added co-producer Tara Herrmann. “It wasn’t anyone’s fault. It was just a new dynamic – people were attached to the characters as viewers, not as creators.”

Danielle Brooks, who plays Taystee, has also been hyping up that season six is “different” following the events of season five’s finale. “There’s no up from there. There’s nowhere you can go that’s a positive,” she told Variety.

“So you’re definitely going to see all of the girls trying to figure out how to get out of this rabbit hole they’ve created. Who is loyal to whom? Who is standing alone? Who is motivated by their own personal will to get out of prison? Who lies and who tells the truth? All of that stuff will come out this season.”

But don’t expect a dramatic shake-up in season six as Kohan also confirmed it’ll still be an ensemble show. “It’s gluttony – I like a little piece of this, a little piece of that,” she explained.

New episodes will officially land on Netflix on July 27, 2018.

OITNB’s Taylor Schilling Opens Up About Her Sexuality

Over the years, there has been much speculation regarding Taylor Schilling sexuality – with rumours circulating that she dated Portlandia star and musician Carrie Brownstein.

But in a recent interview with the Evening Standard Magazine, Schilling talked candidly about how she saw her sexuality.

‘I’ve had very serious relationships with lots of people, and I’m a very expansive human. There’s no part of me that can be put under a label. I really don’t fit into a box – that’s too reductive.”

Schilling, who is currently single, explained:

I’m working all the time – I don’t really have anything else going on. But I’ve had wonderful relationships. I’ve had a lot of love, and I don’t have any qualms about where it comes from.”

Orange Is the New Black has been a pioneering show, confronting LGBT issues head on without stopping to apologise or diluting scenes for fear of offending.

Schilling added she was delighted with how much progress had been made with LGBT issues since the show aired.

Oh, in the first season, all people wanted to talk about was what it was like to kiss a girl. Now, if someone asks me that, there’s complete understanding if I say: ‘I’m not going to answer that question.’”

She says the difference now is that people have stopped caring as much about same-sex relationships

The things that are happening in this show, and to Piper, are not about the gender of the person she’s sleeping with. And that’s only four years. I do feel that things have changed – the world has become a little more Orange.”

Orange Is the New Black: Let’s Talk Piper and Alex’s Surprise Season 5 Ending

Spoiler warning: For those who haven’t finished season 5 of OITNB, plot details will be revealed ahead.

If you’re reading this, you’ve survived your sentence in binge-watching Orange Is the New Black.

One storyline we wanted to here more about was Piper (Taylor Schilling) and Alex (Laura Prepon).

Piper and Alex have had quite the journey on the show.

They’ve been on, they’ve been off and they’ve been in quite a few weird, in between spaces over the course of Orange‘s run.

But by the end of Season 5, it’s safe to say that Piper and Alex’s relationship might be in the best place it’s ever been!

In the episode, titled Tattoo You, we are delivered two parallel flashbacks for the pair, which provides insight into why Alex ended up sending Piper to jail in the first place.

Rewinding to when Piper was still following Alex all over the world, viewers see her ink herself with a fish tattoo signifying beauty for Alex.

Years later, Alex tells a stranger that her “Love is pain” inking was in response to Piper’s beauty fish: Love is pain, not beauty.

Now her ex-girlfriend, Alex admits that Piper broke her heart. The prior seasons have already clued viewers into what happened in between these two memories, but seeing Alex express a mix of anger, love and regret over “ruining Piper’s life” by sending her to Litchfield was a new shade of black on the drug-smuggling nomad.

And Alex wasn’t the only one to have regrets.

Enter a cameo from Jason Biggs, who returned to play Piper’s boyfriend Larry Bloom. When Larry gets his own tattoo, of the Kool-Aid Man, Piper is reminded of Alex and drunk dials her ex later that night.

“How are you still in my brain? Do you miss me? Probably not. I miss you,” she says in the rambling voicemail, which upon listening causes Alex to kick out her girlfriend.

Back at Litchfield, Piper has a phone conversation with her mother, where she says coming close to dying made her realize she doesn’t want to miss out on being with Alex in this lifetime. “I want to stick around because of her,” she admits.

Only hours earlier in Litchfield time, both Piper and Alex, bound and gagged in the shower curtains they were kidnapped in, survived a near-death experience when Piscatella (Brad William Henke) tortured Red (Kate Mulgrew) and threatened their collective existence from inside a janitor’s closet.

They survived — Alex with a broken arm and Piper, a newfound outlook.

Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Laura Prepon explains

When you look at what they just went through with Piscatella, it puts things into perspective. They just went through this insane thing where they almost died. They saw what happened to Red and Alex’s arm is broken and all these things, and they realize: Life is short, I love this person, let’s just do this.”

Prepon says the Piscatella incident — which ultimately ended with the guard being shot and killed by one of his own riot men — shifted things for the tumultuous twosome.

When something like that happens, it makes people really reevaluate. You realize what’s important.”

In the scene, Piper says she “wanted to die” sitting there and not being able to help Alex when she was hurt.

Despite Alex’s insistence that Piper leave her alone, Piper returned to the bunker where the inmates were hiding, Alex’s missing glasses in hand, and says…

You have taught me that love hurts. You’ve taught me that life, it hurts. And I want to be there for you, I want us to be there for each other so that maybe it hurts a little less.”

Getting down on one knee, Piper popped the question, asking Alex to be her partner through love, pain and beauty fish.

I figured that’s what you were doing,” snarked Alex before accepting. Then asking, “You had to do this now?”

The mid-riot romantic gesture was, as Schilling says, so Piper.

It was interesting that that’s where the rubber met the road for them. In the midst of crisis — let’s get married!”

Schilling says when she read the script, she had never given much thought to whether Piper would be the one to ask, focusing instead on how sweet of a way the moment is to “propel their relationship forward” after a high-stakes situation.

Prepon, on the other hand, said she was very surprised when she read it:

Not even that it was Piper who proposed, but just that it was happening in general.”

Though their celebratory period was short-lived, Schilling froze the moment in time to imagine how they would be as an engaged couple.

I can’t imagine it being very much different than what their relationship is like now, which is so heightened and so dysfunctional in many ways. Marriage doesn’t generally shift course very much and it’s not really a thing that fixes a relationship. I’m curious to see how they react to that.”

When it came to filming the scene, Prepon laughed about the moment occurring in the very unromantic pool room setting.

I love working with Taylor. Whenever we have a scene we just jump into it. We do the damn thing and it’s great and fantastic. She’s a baller and we have a lot of fun together.”

The finale sees Piper and Alex joining hands with eight other inmates as the 10 key characters prepare to face the consequences of their actions.

Clutching hands, the inmates are rocked by the explosion, unaware of what will be greeting them through the other side of the door.

Abbi And Carrie, Kristen And Annie, Ow my!

I am not one to gossip, or follow closely the tabloids, but I just had to share with you some of Hollywood’s newest queer couples.

Wait, that doesn’t right… Portland / NYC’s newest queer couple?

The urge to merge (TV shows)

Well, regardless of the city, I can’t even begin to explain how surprised I was when the rumour surfaced that Broad City‘s Abbi Jacobson is dating Portlandia’s Carrie Brownstein. I have been a huge fan of Broad City since the very first episode and recently spent 2 days glued to my couch binging on Portlandia.

A couple weeks ago, in one of my Instagram stalking sessions (slightly ashamed to share that), this photo came up.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BK3ZSanBaYM/

Wait, do they know each other?

As Autostraddle later speculated, Carrie and Abbi are dating, adding:

My sources on the ground in Portland tell me that these two have been canoodling up a storm.”

As invested as I was to find out what was going on, there is no real proof about the nature of their relationship.

Maybe what made me so curious about this relationship was the fact that I never even saw Abbi as “one of us”!

https://www.instagram.com/p/BJv7_l7AdTd/

Her Broad City character – also called Abbi – always struck me as straight, skilfully dodging her best friend’s attempt at trying the Arc de Triomphe (inside joke, you can check out the scene.

On the other hand, Brownstein was rumoured to have dated Taylor Schilling from Orange is the New Black although, again, we can only count on photos and wild speculation to assume they were in fact dating.

Music, Movies and Moving On

Moving on to the next rumour, are Kristen Stewart and Annie Clark dating?! The musician and St. Vincent‘s front-woman, Annie, was dating model Cara Delevigne for quite some time, making it harder and harder for me to leave Instagram with every post they uploaded. I mean, come on!

https://www.instagram.com/p/BAdwCA9wTVp/

On the other hand, Kristen Stewart – everyone’s favourite “not out but really out” actress – was dating Alicia Cargile or, as most tabloids put it, “they were gal pals”. The couple were then rumoured to have broken up,  Kristen start seeing Stephanie ‘Soko‘ Sokolinski, and then her and Alicia got back together earlier this year.

Still with me?

But now my Instagram feed is filled with photos of Annie and Kristen hanging out in New York.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BLWOUyqhcsl/

Los Angeles-based comedian Liza Dye met the pair backstage at a gig, and the pair were spotted apparently leaving the venue together, looking pretty cozy.

So, are they really dating or is this just some futile and desperate attempt to try to find the latest queer couple?

What are your thoughts on the latest couples? Are they really dating or is it just wild speculation?

Taylor Schilling, Natasha Lyonne, Clea DuVall, Lea DeLaria & Lena Dunham Unveil ‘Revolution’ Video Supporting Hillary Clinton

Grassroots organization Humanity for Hillary created the #ThisIsWhatMyRevoultionLooksLike clip to promote electing more women into public office.

Natasha Lyonne, Taylor Schilling, Clea DuVall, Uzo Aduba, Lea DeLaria, Lena Dunham, Rosie Perez and Sally Kohn, and a host of other actors filmed the video supporting Hillary Clinton and highlighting the need to elect more women to public office.

CoI5bTNWIAAmSs-

The video never mentions the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee by name, but talks about the importance of voting and having the government more closely resemble the gender breakdown of America.

The actors, poets and artists describe what their revolution looks like, emphasizing equal pay, paid family leave, protecting the right to choose and having more women in leadership roles. “Join our revolution,” implores Aduba.

In a statement, the video creator and  co-founder Humanity for Hillary, Laura Dawn explained

As a 13-year veteran and passionate member of the progressive movement, I was aghast to see decades-old false attacks on Hillary Clinton echoed by young progressives. I researched every single attack on the former Secretary and emerged more confident than ever that she absolutely deserves to be the first woman president of this country. I believe that Hillary Clinton will be a fantastic president, and electing her is a paradigm shifting act that will foster new levels of women running for office and winning.”

Dunham added

I participated in this video because this is the most essential election of our lifetime, and I believe that electing more women is a true revolutionary action. If you believe in equality for women, LGTBQ, people of color and immigrants then there is only one choice this November — Hillary Clinton.”

Carrie Brownstein On How Being Outed in Spin Magazine Made Her Feel ‘Splintered And Smashed’

Now, in 2015, actor, writer and musician Carrie Brownstein has legions of queer fans. Not only is the performer out herself, but she also features in new movie Carol (which stars Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara in a May-December relationship), and is also set to star in Transparent season two (as Ali Pfefferman’s best friend, Syd).

But Brownstein didn’t exactly have the easiest path to being out as although other big names such as Ellen Page, Amber Heard, and Evan Rachel Wood all came out of their own accord, the performer was actually outed.

In 1996, just as her band Sleater-Kinney was becoming more famous, the band was featured in an issue of Spin magazine. While this would be exciting for any up and coming musician, not long after the issue was published, Brownstein got a phone call from her father saying that the publication had revealed that Brownstein and bandmate Corin Tucker had dated.

Speaking to SheWired about the debacle, Brownstein explains that neither her nor Tucker had told their parents or families and that the outing left her feeling “splintered and smashed”. Moreover:

I didn’t think or know if I was gay; dating Corin was just something that had happened. I had not yet figured out who I was, and now I was robbed of the opportunity to publicly do so; to be in flux.

From that point on, any denial or rescinding would seem like backpedaling or shame to a group of people whom I didn’t want to alienate. Yet I felt it was unfair to be labeled when I had yet to find a label for myself, and when binary, fixed identities held no meaning or safety for me.”

Brownstein also tells the publication that although she sees the importance in visibility and feels that it’s “corrosive to be hidden”, she doesn’t think that “anybody ‘owes’ anything.”. This sort of terminology is “dangerous” says Brownstein, and “we need to change the conversation from ‘Do you owe me this?’ to ‘Are you living your best self?’”

brownstein-and-book-x750_0

Moreover, Brownstein is outspoken about the way that the media discusses out celebrities as well.

She is “unashamed of the identifier ‘queer,'” but, Brownstein asks, “I don’t know if that is the best description of Portlandia or the best description of Sleater-Kinney or the best description of [Brownstein’s new book ‘Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl’]”.

Rather, she challenges the media to come up with “more sophisticated, nuanced of ways of writing and critiquing” her work.

OITNB Pondering: Where Next For Alex and Piper?

Orange is the New Black season 3 has sadly come and gone, leaving us with mixed emotions. While it wasn’t a huge part of the story this time around, the Piper (Taylor Schilling) /Alex (Laura Prepon) saga is still on-going, and we’re not sure if it’s destined to end happily.

Alex-Piper-01

And even though season four is several months away, we can’t help but wonder what’s next in the story for the Litchfield pair.

Of course, by the end of the third season, things were looking scary for Alex after she ran into a druglord who was now working as a prison officer sent by Kubra.

While it’s unlikely she was killed, we’re certain that scare tactics were used to warn her of what’s to come in the future.

Alex Vause 01

If you follow Prepon on Instagram or Twitter, you’ll know that she’s been sharing some on-set photos.

She’s also been discussing the transformation in Piper towards the end of season three, and how we’re all going to be Team Alex next year.

She sees through all of Piper’s BS. And that’s why they’re such a cool relationship. I think that Alex knows that she’s putting it on – it’s not really her….It’s one of the reasons why Alex dumped [Piper] in Season 3. She’s just like, ‘Listen, this is kind of gross, and where’s the real Piper?’”

Meanwhile, Taylor Schilling explained that for her character, Piper Chapman, “it’s really fun where Piper is right now,” though we’re not sure how long that will last.

I think she’s really going to keep scrambling to keep her sense of self intact.”

What do you think we can expect from season four of Orange is the New Black when it begins airing on Netflix next year? Let us know your thoughts below.

I’m still gonna go with Piper. She’s amazing. I think she doesn’t know what she doesn’t know and until she knows it and does learn, she does try her very best to fix something. She doesn’t find the language always, but she tries her best to make things right.”

Laverne Cox’s wife would be Stella.

Ruby Rose. Everybody wants Ruby Rose. Stella is just a really cool chick. And she looks great naked. I have a feeling a lot of people would be coming to me to get to her.”

‘Orange Is the New Black’ Actresses Drop Spoilers on Season 4

Laura Prepon‘s character Alex Vause is returning to the Netflix series next season, and at a New York screening of the season finale, Prepon said

We can’t really say too much. She’s dealing with a lot this year.”

The drug-dealing Litchfield Penitentiary inmate and complicated lover of the show’s lead character Piper Chapman (played by Taylor Schilling), is last seen facing down a drug business associate in the third season’s finale.

It’s unknown whether Vause will make it out alive or if she is going to portray herself in the prison show’s many flashbacks.

oitnb-01

Prepon, who dropped an earlier hint that Vause would be back in a June Instagram post, said Vause being paranoid and emotional during the third season allowed fans to see another side of her.

Alex will always be very, very cool. It’s just always nice when you can see that side to a person.”

Prepon said the Emmy Award-winning show helped her grow as an actress, and she praised writer Jenji Kohan.

The (writers) really push us out of our comfort zones. When there is this awesome scene that you have to be raw and you have to be vulnerable . I know that my amazing co-stars are going to be there to support me, and it really is this incredible sisterhood.”

Fans have also been anticipating a romance between inmates Poussey Washington and Brook Soso.

In an interview with Bustle, Samira Wiley, who plays Poussey, teased,

Well, I hope there’s a potential romance going on between Poussey and someone. I’m not sure exactly who that person is or if that will be a thing, but I’m definitely in the corner of wanting her to find some love.”

OITNB-24

Asked if it is possible romance would develop between Poussey and Soso, the actress replied,

Oh, absolutely. I think coming off of where we ended Season 3, they are both so lonely and they’re both delving into some self-destructive behavior because of it.”

It was seen at the conclusion of season three of the Netflix hit show the sweet image of Poussey and Soso holding hands while floating in the water.

Orange is the New Black season 4 is expected to debut on June 2016.

This ‘Orange Is The New Black’ Teaser Will Make Your Day (Video)

Tomorrow is the day that Orange is the New Black hits our Netflix screens. And in the much hyped lead up, Netflix has dropped another teaser for Season 3 – excited?

In the new season, the depressing realities of prison are the subtext—but often only the subtext—of storylines played for laughs.

Piper’s lover Alex Vause (Laura Prepon) is despondent about finding herself back in prison, only to have her agony assuaged by love and hate sex.

Even-tempered Poussey (Samira Wiley) is so bored and lonely that she’s on the verge of alcoholism, which is staved off by some hijinks involving a raccoon and a shenis.

Back Behind Bars – Orange Is The New Black and the Ultimate Season 3 Sneak Peek (Videos)

As the third season arrives, it’s worth reflecting upon how far Orange Is The New Black has come.

The show is based on a best-selling memoir by Piper Kerman of the same name, and many of the broad plot details remain the same. We first meet Piper (Taylor Schilling), when she is in her early thirties. She is a white, upper middle-class, liberal arts graduate who runs her own successful business selling luxury toiletries, and has just got engaged to her boyfriend.

But there is a cloud on the horizon. A drug-trafficking offence from ten years ago has finally caught up with her, and she has been served a custodial sentence.

orange-new-black-season-3

Quickly, a wonderfully rich and original world of character at Lichfield Penitentiary comes to the fore. There is a host of forceful, dynamic and complex women; damaged, devious, morally ambiguous, neither clear victims or villains. A large proportion of them, black, Latina, gay, are characterisations heretofore largely under-represented on mainstream television.

The show has wider social resonances too. It’s depictions of the endemic corruption inside the institution, and the many dehumanising privations, which compromise the women’s safety and security.

And the characters complex back-stories speak volumes too. Each character study is fleshed out with details about the particular familial, economic, and emotional conditions which have ultimately led to incarceration – and so we see lives unfolding and buckling under a litany of bad starts, desperate measures and questionable choices.

Netflix Releases First Glimpse of Ruby Rose in ‘Orange Is the New Black’, and she sounds Aussie (Video)

In a sneaky teaser, Netflix has given us a quick peek at their newest character to join Orange is the New Black.

In a fifteen-second clip, we see Australian actress, presenter and model, Ruby Rose in character as Stella Carlin in a heated conversation with Piper, played by Taylor Schilling.

This is Rose’s breakout role in the United States, and she was close to giving up the American acting dream when she scored the job.

Rose isn’t the only Aussie to be in the show, Sydney actress Yael Stone has been hiding behind the thick accent of the character Lorna Morello for the past two seasons.

Season 3 of the hit original series will be arriving on screens on June 12, via Netflix.

Spoiler Alert | Three Key Details Leaked at ‘Orange is the New Black’ Red-Carpet Premiere

Only a few weeks left before Orange is the New Black season 3 premieres on Netflix, cast and creators were out in force over the weekend at the at Netflix red-carpet premiere of the third season.

After the screening, the principal cast and creator Jenji Kohan stuck around for a Q&A at the Dramatist’s Guild of America. They discussed the premiere and the themes at play in the season to come, and dropped more than a few hints about what fans should expect.

Before we delve too hard into the spoilers, here is a quick recap of what we already know:

We found out last October that season three is going to be at least in part about an exploration of faith.

Orange is the New Black‘s book author and show consultant Piper Kiernan said in an interview.

One of the things that Jenji Kohan has said about season three already on record is that an exploration of faith is a big part of what she is planning and what they have scripted so far….[the new season] holds some really amazing stories and twists and turns.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njy0dFFlpAc

And while the trailer shows a very disappointed Alex, “OITNB” season 3 updates reveal that it will certainly get hot in Litchfield as a steamy Alex and Piper scene is underway. The sex scene will not be anything new to fans of the show, but knowing how Alex and Piper have seesawed in their relationship, it will be something to watch out for, spoilers teased.

Australian actress / model Ruby Rose, will play a sultry inmate named Stella. Stella turns out to be a love interest for both Piper and Alex, so, if you thought that that particular drama wouldn’t return with a vengeance, think again.

OITNBS3_30SEPT14_WHILDEN_D0078.NEF

We also already know (and can celebrate the fact) that Jason Biggs is not returning to the show. Larry has long been the most-derided part of OitNB, and his departure brought cheers from all across the internet.

Pornstache, another character fans of the show most love to hate, is not going to be in season three, as actor Pablo Schreiber already signed to work on another show. Pornstache’s mom is going to be a character, though, and she’ll be played by Mary Steenburgen.

As far as new information, here’s what we found out at the DGA unveiling. According to Kohan,

[Season Three is] lighter than season two, it’s a season of faith, it’s a season of motherhood, it’s a progression of everyone’s stories. I think we get deeper into our characters and we meet people….It’s very important to me to play in both [comedy and drama] because I don’t think anything is all serious or all humorous. I remember watching dramas and thinking when there was no humor or no comic relief that they didn’t reflect any sort of reality because there’s no such thing as life without humor. (But) you need a dramatic spine to hold it together.

Expect to see more of four actors – Adrienne C. Moore (Cindy Hayes), Selenis Leyva (Gloria Mendoza), Nick Sandow (Joe Caputo) and Samira Wiley (Poussey Washington) – who were upper to regular during the past year. Season 3 goes upstream June 12,”

To the frustration of fans everywhere, Kohan did not state whether Vee lived or died at the end of season two. In fact, she only addressed the question with quiet smiles.

Orange is the New Black debuts at 12:01 on Friday, June 12.

OITNB’s Yael Stone Talks Season 3 and Which Cast Member is the Best to Party With

Yael Stone plays Lorna Morello in Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black, which returns next month.

In hit show, she has a strong accent – a mix of Brooklyn and Boston – but in real life, Yael Stone is an Aussie.

Lorna Morello

Talking recently in an interview she opened up about the up-coming season.

We finished shooting last November so it’s been a while, but it felt good and exciting. The stories are getting richer. For the third series we’re exploring this issue of faith and what people put their faith in.”

Lorna Morello 02

Whilst she stayed quiet on how much of Morello we’ll be seeing in the third series she hinted there would be new inmates joining the already huge cast list.

In a loose way, there’s always joy in finding new faces in and outside the prison and we still delight in the older characters.”

The show was nominated for the International award at this year’s Baftas but lost out to True Detective.

I like our status as rebels. You can’t deny there’s an impact Netflix has made. The original content is world class and it’s a real force. It’s making things people are hungry for and we’re proud to be part of it.”

Anyone who follows the cast on Instagram or Twitter will know they like hanging out socially and for a wild night, Stone says there are a few members you need to tag along with.

I mean Samira Wiley (who plays Poussey Washington) and Dascha Polanco (who plays Dayanara “Daya” Diaz) are the ones who want to dance with. But then you’re going to have fun if you go out with Laverne Cox or Lea DeLaria (who play Sophia and Big Boo) too.”

Out writers Lauren Morelli and Sara Hess have spoken recently about the realistic sex scenes in Orange is the New Black.

Sex and sexuality is a huge part of the story. Everyone is thinking about it (yearn for it it) and looking to connect, so its very important to get those stories right.

The Real-Life ‘Alex Vause’, Discusses Piper and Lesbian Sex in Prison

We have to admit that we’re totally fans of Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black and have been completely swept away in the personal lives of Piper, Alex and the other Litchfield Correctional inmates.

However, sadly the truth is the real-life Piper’s prison stay and romance with her real-life ex-girlfriend, is far from as seen on TV.

ruby-rose-oitnb-03

In fact, the original Alex Vause — 50-something former felon Cleary Wolters — tells HuffPost Live that her romance with Piper Kerman (Taylor Schilling‘s character Piper Chapman on the series) was far too brief to be noteworthy – kill joy.

I’m flattered that they picked out me in her life as such an interesting, charismatic character that they had to make a whole backstory about me. I never imagined I’d be Donna from That 70s Show. When I watch that part of the series, I watch it as a viewer. I don’t say ‘that’s my life.'”

Other differences between OITNB and real prison life? There’s much less sex — at least out in the open.

There is sex occurring, but it’s not happening in the showers without a shower curtain. if you get caught having sex, you go to . . . solitary confinement. I never saw it. In fact, I might have stayed had that been the case. There’d be a line to get into prison if it were as fun as Orange Is the New Black shows it to be.”

Taylor Schilling Rocks Double Denim to Diss the Selfie-Obsessed ‘Kim Kardashian Culture’

Orange Is the New Black’s Taylor Schilling just slammed what she dubbed the inauthentic, selfie-obsessed ‘Kim Kardashian culture.’

In an interview with with Elle Canada and she opened up about how she lives her life sans social media, and managed to throw major shade at the 34-year-old reality star while doing so.

It has almost become a defiant thing at this point because I do not believe this celebrity Kim Kardashian culture is what I signed up for. I’d rather create something honest than try to create something for a social media account.”

Taylor Schilling 01

The Fordham University grad also noted that, in her experience, having more Instagram followers ‘does not get you more jobs’. She went on to explain,

There is something so sad about going online and seeing almost everyone shouting, ‘Notice me, notice me!’ Which is such a human desire — to be acknowledged. But me responding to that with some sort of, ‘You’re noticed, you’re seen’ only perpetuates the loneliness.”

While she might seem unapologetic for her staunch views about what the Internet has to offer, she doesn’t mean to come off that way. Schilling, 30, believes that people deserve to be appreciated in their own way instead of through fictional validation.

Taylor Schilling 04

In fact, she believes it takes real courage to be true online.

It takes a lot of bravery to be authentic and honest and to take that social mask off in order to connect with another human being. So much of what makes us who we are is smoothed away online. And what truly connects us is the wrinkles, not the smoothness.”

She also thinks of herself as too sensitive to be able to handle the criticisms she might face if she shares.

Besides, my brain is just way too fragile for both,” she admits. “I am susceptible to what people think; I think we all are. So it’s just easier for me to not engage with it too much.”

Behind the scenes….

‘Orange Is the New Black’ Gets Season 4 Renewal From Netflix, And We Get Another Sneak Peak of the Next Season

Watch another clip from season 3 of Orange Is the New Black, and it looks like Suzanne has some Vee feelings to deal with.

In the below clip from the coming season, Crazy Eyes (Uzo Aduba) and Poussey (Samira Wiley) nearly rumble in the cafeteria over whether Vee (Lorraine Toussaint) became roadkill or not at the end of Season 2.

So what else do we know about the new season…

Its been confirmed that the ladies of Litchfield Correctional Institution just got their sentences extended: Netflix has renewed the show for a fourth season.

Laura Prepon is back playing Alex Vause, and she’s back inside Litchfield, which, as the trailer teases, means she’s back in some drama with Piper (Taylor Schilling). Plus, new felon Stella (Ruby Rose) enters the fray.

Oscar and Golden Globe winner Mary Steenburgen, who just finished a great stint on Justified, will be a guest star in Season 3, and looks to be cast as Pornstache mom… yes, the woman who spawned Pornstache.

Several cast members were promoted from recurring to regular cast status for Season 3, which likely means more storyline — and, with any luck, more of those trademark backstories — for their characters, including Selenis Leyva (who plays Gloria Mendoza),Adrienne C. Moore (“Black Cindy”), Dascha Polanco (Daya), Nick Sandow (Caputo), Yael Stone (Morello), and Samira Wiley as Poussey. In fact, buzz is that we get more Poussey flashbacks in the season premiere. Lori Petty, who was on Piper’s plane to Chicago in the Season 2 premiere, also returns as Lolly.

Will Piper and Alex Get Back Together in Orange is the New Black Season 3?

Things haven’t been so smooth for Orange is the New Black‘s leading couple, Piper and Alex. First, the two women reunited under terrible circumstances when they both happened to be in the same prison, then they hooked up in a church and were happy for all of two seconds, but then it was revealed that Alex was the reason that Piper ended up in the slammer in the first place.

Oh, and then there was also the thorny issue of Larry who Piper was still engaged to as she was falling for Alex again.

Alex-Piper-01

Roll on season two where Alex asked Piper to lie on the stand and when Piper did, Alex told the truth and ended up being released. Then Piper got revenge and Alex was thrown back into prison again for violating her parole and buying a gun (to protect herself against those she testified against) and it’s really up in the air as to whether or not these once lovebirds will get back together for good.

Over at Bustle, Kadeen Griffiths notes that quite a few things need to happen before #Pipex blesses us with their romance once more. For example, although they trotted the globe together and shacked up in palaces bought with drug money, they are very different people now who need to get to know each other and so they should probably date.

That’s not really conventional since there aren’t many places you can be romantic when guards are watching your every move, but it would be nice to see them on dates.

ruby-rose-oitnb-03

They also need to stop betraying each other since a) it’s not healthy for any relationship and b) it’s just plain mean and neither of them know where they stand.

And finally, they need to talk about the future because it’s not easy to make plans about moving in and getting married and having babies when you’re both doing jail time (Larry and Piper couldn’t even handle that when just one of them was in prison).

Plus, it’s not clear how much time either of them is doing so they need to come to terms with the possibility of being separated.

In Orange is the New Black season three, however, it might not be these things that keep Piper and Alex apart. As we saw in the new OITNB trailer, a new inmate played by Ruby Rose seems to have taken an interest in the two of them.

We already saw Piper and Alex’s mutual friend Nicky get between them (she hooked up with Alex not long after her and Piper split up) so it’s not so far fetched to think that the new character will divert their attention too.

No matter what happens, we’ll still be watching the show at the edge of our seats when Orange is the New Black returns in June.

It’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance, but the split-second snippet, which shows Rose giving a flirty wink.

She plays inmate Selina Carlin, who becomes part of a love triangle between exes Piper (Taylor Schilling) and Alex (Laura Prepon).

Rose posted about the trailer on her Instagram feed, saying she’s “so glad” she “learnt how to wink from a young age”.

The trailer shows Alex returning to the fictional Litchfield Penitentiary, where a guard tells Piper, “the hot one is back”.

‘Orange Is the New Black’ stars Taylor Schilling and Uzo Aduba Discuss the Show and Season 3

Orange Is the New Black stars Taylor Schilling and Uzo Aduba have spoken to Pop Sugar’s Allie Merriam about the coolest things that have happened to them since starring in the show.

The two have been on a whirlwind adventure since their hit show launched on Netflix in 2013, leading them to some truly surprising situations, including one with President Obama.

Sadly, they are not giving too much away about the next season.

Schilling was very tight-lipped as far as revealing spoilers for season 3, simply saying that it picks up “right where we left off.”

The third season is set to premiere June 12.

WTF, Taylor Schilling Has Apparently Switched Teams?

According to online sources, Orange Is The New Black star Taylor Schilling has apparently ‘switched teams’, and is now in a lesbian relationship with Portlandia co-creator Carrie Brownstein.

There have been rumours swirling for a while now, especially after Schilling was spotted by gig goers in London and Glasgow supporting Brownstein on tour.

taylor-schilling

However, according to Star Magazine, Schilling is officially dating Brownstein, and the ladies have gone public with their relationship, with an inside source dishing that there has “always been a spark” between Schilling and Brownstein.

taylor-schilling-03

“Orange Is The New Black star Taylor Schilling has taken a cue from her on-screen character and is no dating a woman. Taylor has been getting cozy with 40 year old Portlandia cocreator Carrie Brownstein. The pair, who have been friends for a while, recently took things to the next level and friends say that they couldn’t be happier. And the couple are wasting no time hiding their newfound love. Taylor was most recently spotted visiting Carrie in Portland, Oregon on March 15th, where fans spotted them out and about.”

So why the hell are we only just noticing? Autostraddle did posted a piece recently discussing the matter:

“Questions have been pouring in lately about these two, mostly because it flew under the goddamn radar for so long. While the universe exploded over the revelation that OITNB’s Samira Wiley was dating one of the shows writers, Taylor Schilling just strutted right into black-tie events on Carrie Brownstein’s arm, cool as a cucumber…”

taylor-schilling-01

Hmmmm - could this be the classic case of lesbian/bi women not being allowed to hang out with straight girls without rumours flying, or is this the real deal?

taylor-schilling-02

OITNB writer Lauren Morelli, filed for divorce from her husband, and last year announced that working on the show helped her realise that she is actually a lesbian.

So, do you think that Taylor and Carrie Brownstein make a cute couple?
