Watch Sarah Paulson Get Pranked Big Time By Ellen DeGeneres

Actress Sarah Paulson has delivered plenty of scares on American Horror Story, but when she visited Ellen DeGeneres, this week it was her turn to get frightened.

While chatting with DeGeneres, the actress talked about how series co-creator Ryan Murphy based some of the scary elements of Season 7, Cult, on Paulson’s real-life fears, one of those being clowns.

Oh, but Ellen was already prepared.

On the show, the host prank-scared Paulson not once, not twice, but three times, with a final scary clown popping out and sending the actress hiding under the coffee table.

Sarah Paulson And Allison Pill Share A Kiss In New ‘AHS: Cult‘ Trailer

After months of the traditional speculation over what American Horror Story’s next season will entail, AHS: Cult has finally released its first real look at its new mystery

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-27J0sR9268

As I mentioned last week, Allison Pill and Sarah Paulson play wives in this politically charged instalment of the series, and the trailer treated fans to a few glimpses of their on-screen dynamic.

By the looks of it, Ms. Paulson’s character is devastated by Donald Trump’s presidential win, and her trauma somehow involves killer clowns (because why not?).

As for Pill, her character is more calm and skeptical, so it’s safe to say the pair’s relationship will be tested.

Newcomers to the AHS world like Lena Dunham and Billy Eichner don’t show up in the preview (unless they are wearing clown masks), but we get our first glimpse of Billie Lourd as a nanny for Paulson’s son.

American Horror Story: Cult premieres September 5 on FX.

Are Sarah Paulson And Alison Pill The Newest ‘American Horror Story’ Lesbian Power Couple?

Sarah Paulson confirmed as much Wednesday during a Television Critics Association panel discussion about the anthology show’s latest installment, American Horror Story: Cult.

There are two women married to each other in that house, but who are they? It’s me and Alison.”

Even without Paulson’s big reveal, the clues were out there for diehard AHS fans to piece together: Pill plays a character named Ivy Mayfair-Richards and Paulson’s character is named Ally Mayfair-Richards.

Aside from that love connection, though, the Cult panel didn’t answer how Evan Peters’s character Kai plays into any of this.

In July, co-creator Ryan Murphy posted a sketch of Paulson and Peters on Instagram with the caption “Ally and Kai in CULT … a love story for the ages.”

We’ll find out when American Horror Story: Cult premieres on September 5.

7 TV Shows That Treat LGBT Characters Fairly

As far as queer representation in television goes, it’s a really hit-and-miss game. Some characters are so gay that it hurts, while others play into that “bi-curious phase” stigma that affects so much of our bisexual family. No matter what the specific problem is, it’s really hard to find a show that actually treats their LGBT characters fairly. (And, by “fairly”, we mean like real people – not like plot devices.)

What is so hard about making a believable queer character? Especially since we must assume that they’re putting them in their shows for their queer audience. Like we’re not going to notice that they’re a terrible caricature of us. Give me a break.

Thankfully, there are some shows that treat their LGBT characters the way we want them treated. I’ve gathered a list of 7 shows that get it right, based entirely on my own perspective. I’m well aware that there are other shows with gay and bisexual characters in them, but I don’t watch every single one. Hopefully my list will help you find a new favorite – or drop the name of one I’ve missed down in the comments!

(Note: For the sake of simplicity, I’m leaving out shows which feature primarily queer characters. Sorry, OitNB – I’ll show you some love later on, I promise. Also, understandably, this post may contain spoilers, so read at your own risk.)

1. American Horror Story

While AHS might not be the pinnacle of queer entertainment, there are queer characters throughout the seasons.

tumblr_n19ug3FYlW1rrl0mgo2_500

These characters aren’t “special snowflakes” (usually) or sacrificed for the sake of ratings – they are no more or less likely to die than their straight counterparts.

As a huge horror media junkie, seeing queer characters placed organically within the storyline makes me happy – even if I know they’re going to die in the end.

2. Pretty Little Liars

While PLL loses some points for their “dramatic reveal” of the mentally-ill transgendered character being the big villain, they do win some of those points back for their portrayal of Emily Fields and her many love interests throughout the show.

tumblr_mf4shufo2U1rnda0mo1_500

Emily’s character is relatable because her sexual identity isn’t her only identity – it’s just one of the facets of her life. She shows that lesbians fall in love, have straight friends, and stress about the crazy shit in their lives, just like everyone else, and that we can also look smoking hot while doing it.

3. Scream

I’ll admit: I’m a major slasher nerd. So when I heard that Scream was being remade into a TV series, I was ecstatic. When I found out that one of the main characters was not exactly straight, I was even more ecstatic.

tumblr_nw844j42SM1swqz28o5_540

Audrey Jensen’s character identifies as bi-curious, but she’s explored her sexuality a bit off the camera. What I love even more about her is that her BFFs, Emma Duval and Noah Foster, don’t push her to identify a certain way – making them awesome allies, too.

4. Orphan Black

Okay, so I was way, way late coming to the OB fandom (so late, in fact, that I binge-watched the first three seasons within about a week so I could catch up for the season four premiere… ahem), but the reputation held by CoPhine (Cosima and Delphine, for non-fans) had already drawn me in before I watched that first episode.

tumblr_n28ntnpRqv1tutjoko1_500

I could berate the writers for using Delphine to queerbait Cosima and the viewers, but instead I’ll point out how both Cosima and Tony exist as real people who just happen to be lesbian and transgender, respectively.

5. Adventure Time

Let’s talk about Princess Bubblegum and Marceline for a minute. These aren’t exactly your run-of-the-mill bisexual characters – and, like pretty much all bisexual characters on TV, ever, they don’t actually say the word.

tumblr_mjd1uebhto1rkiy6bo2_500

Even with this subtle bi erasure, it’s great that there are cartoons that show that being bisexual is really NBD.

6. Real O’Neals

Unlike the other shows on this list, Real O’Neals is actually about being gay and discriminated against, but the way they handle it is so beautiful that it deserves its own recognition.

tumblr_o3i28s9lwc1v8o7j5o2_500

While Kenny O’Neal’s character does play on quite a few stereotypes about gay young men, it also deals with the all-too-important message of accepting and loving yourself, and the idea that your family will come around to it, eventually. (And, if not, it’s their loss.)

7. Steven Universe

For the longest time, I tried to pretend I didn’t like Steven Universe. It’s really hard for me to find animated series’ that I’ll actively watch, as opposed to leaving them on for background noise. Still, I was shocked (in the best way possible) to see their treatment of queer characters.

tumblr_nl4efdy0JW1u1e188o1_5001 (1)

The fact that two of the main characters are in a committed and loving same-sex relationship with one another, so committed that they become one entity… I suppose it could be argued that they’re playing on the stereotypical lesbian “urge to merge”, but I don’t care. I love them anyway.

Sarah Paulson Goes Bare for ‘W’ Magazine Photoshoot

In a new W magazine feature entitled In Bed with TV’s Hottest Stars, out actress Sarah Paulson has gone topless.

Paulson, who is (probably, definitely) filming AHS season 6 as we speak, told W she wanted to be Alyssa Milano as Samantha on Who’s the Boss as she grew up:

It was my favorite show—Tony Danza reminded me a lot of my dad, and I wanted Judith Light to be my mother.”

In addition to American Horror Story star Paulson and Vinyl star Juno Temple, Westworld actress Thandie Newton, Underground’s Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Liev Schreiber, Vikings‘ Travis Fimmel, Jessica Jones’ Krysten Ritter, Hugh Dancy, All the Way’s Anthony Mackie, and Billions‘ Damian Lewis can be seen stretching in their skivvies.

Stars United To Honour The Orlando Victims (Video)

In the past weeks, the tragic shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando has weighed heavily on all of our thoughts.

With 49 victims, the hashtag #SayTheirNames has served as a way to memorialise those who lost their lives.

However, now Ryan Murphy (the man behind Glee and American Horror Story) has directed a tribute video for HRC, featuring actors of both shows, along with a host of other A List stars, in a touching tribute to honour the victims of the mass shooting in Orlando.

In the video, 49 celebs wear black and sit against a black backdrop, each one reciting a brief biography of one of the victims.

Lady Gaga, Caitlyn Jenner, Matt Bomer, and Laverne Cox are just a few of the many names who came together to tell these stories. They also use the platform to call for an end to hate crimes and gun violence.

Sarah Paulson: “People Should Be Allowed To Love Whomever You F*cking Well Please.”

In a new interview with NOTOFU magazine, American Horror Story’s Sarah Paulson has admitted she was a little nervous after kissing her then girlfriend, Cherry Jones, at the 2005 Tony Awards, after Jones won the Best Actress in a Play award for playing Sister Aloysius in Doubt.

At the time, Paulson had just booked her first high profile TV role, in Studio 60 On Sunset Strip, and wondered whether the spontaneous smooch would have repercussions for that.

I was just doing what one would do when a person they love has just won a big award. What am I gonna do, pat her on the back and say, ‘Good job, dude’? It didn’t occur to me to do anything but what I did.”

She said when she arrived on set for the NBC series Studio 60, Aaron Sorkin made it clear that she would “never have anything to worry about” with regards her sexual orientation.

It was the biggest exhale of my life… I didn’t realise how anxious about it I had been until he said that.”

Now Paulson is open about her relationship with Emmy-winner actor Holland Taylor.

I believe that everyone should be allowed to speak their truth and just say what they want to say and show the world who they are. You should be able to love whomever you fucking well please.”

Sarah Paulson Talks The Aftermath Of Coming Out And New Movie ‘Carol’

Sarah Paulson is not only one of our favourite actresses in Ryan Murphy’s FX hit American Horror Story, but she is set to shine in Carol this weekend, as Cate Blanchett’s former flame, Abby.

sarah-paulson-carol-movie-04

She recently sat with Pride Source to reflect on her accidental coming out experience, the on-going debate whether actors need to be gay in order to play gay, and her convictions over who she is.

I refuse to give any kind of label just to satisfy what people need.”

In 2005, when then-girlfriend Cherry Jones was named a winner at the Tony Awards, Paulson planted a sweet kiss on Jones’ lips and outed herself to the world.

On the aftermath of coming out Paulson had this to say;

The truth of the matter is, it was early enough in my career that there have been no attachments made to me as a performer. I think the thing that makes it somewhat easier in terms of there not having been ramifications is that I’m a character actress—nobody is assigning a particular kind of sexual anything to me, I don’t think…it just seems if you’re sort of known for being a sex kitten…then you end up being a total femme fatale actress, and then all of a sudden you make a statement about your sexuality, it becomes news. Whereas I’m a character actress; I can do a lot of things. I don’t think anybody’s made one particular association with me that would then make them go, “Well, I can’t see her this way now.”

She also added

I do think it’s more important, and I know that Matt Damon got a terrible amount of flak for the way he phrased those things (earlier this year, he said: “People shouldn’t know anything about your sexuality because that’s one of the mysteries that you should be able to play.”), but the sentiment is still true: My personal life… I’m not gonna hide it from you, but I also don’t want you to think about that before you think about the character I’m playing. And so I want that to be of paramount importance – it’s of paramount importance to me that you believe the story I’m trying to be a part of telling you, and if my personal life is going to get in the way of that, I don’t like that at all.

sarah-paulson-carol-movie-01

On Carol and how people assume Cate Blanchett must have had relationships with women in order to portray a lesbian:

Is anyone asking George Clooney what he likes about having sex with a woman? Nobody does. It’s a foregone conclusion that it’s just an acceptable reality and nobody thinks to bother to ask. But you have a story about two women together or two men together and all of a sudden it becomes fair game and assumptions are made that are just never made in the reverse, and I just think it’s terribly unfair.

Why is anyone making assumptions about anything about anybody’s life? It’s a funny thing when actors complain, like, “I didn’t ask for this; I just wanted to act.” Well, in a perfect world we’d all just be able to act and none of this would be part of it, but it is a part of it—this is part of it—and on some level, it comes with the territory. But on another level, you can be responsible and you can control what you will talk about and what you won’t talk about. Either you live your life in a very private way or you don’t, and I never have done that—ever—and I won’t do it going forward. I also won’t serve it up on a platter for someone to feast on, because it’s mine.

About her experience working on a movie, and how it reflects on her own sexuality, she added.

What it really made me think about is the power of love and how, at the end of the day, love is love, period. The end. It sounds cliche, but I think most cliches are cliches because they’re very, very true. And it’s very interesting, because I’ve been with men and women, and (the movie) puts a very fine point on that truth, which is that it’s very personal and that love is love, and sometimes you love a person you weren’t expecting to love – and how glorious is that?

On labelling herself

Because I refuse to give any kind of label just to satisfy what people need. I understand that everybody wants to have a person to look toward that is actively making change around this issue, and I understand for young people coming out they want to attach that hope to a particular person, but I think that honesty is the most important piece of this for me.

All I can say is, I’ve done both, and I don’t let either experience define me. I don’t let having been with a man make me think I am heterosexual, or make me want to call myself that, because I know I have been attracted to women – and have lived with women. So, for me, I’m not looking to define myself, and I’m sorry if that is something that is seen as a rejection of or an unwillingness to embrace (my sexuality) in a public way, but it’s simply not. It’s simply what’s true for me, and that’s all I can speak to.

On being a LGBT role model, she added.

I do, and I think sometimes within the community itself people are like, “You have a responsibility to it – young people need the voices, we need the voices, we need people to see it.” And I get it. But my reality is different than your reality. I have had different experiences.

Carol opens in theaters in New York and Los Angeles Nov. 20.

Angela Bassett Talks About Kissing Lady Gaga In New American Horror Story

Angela Bassett stopped by Access Hollywood to chat about American Horror Story: Hotel, and she touched on her on-screen romance with Lady Gaga, as well as her history with kissing women (in college).

Angela Bassett

First time I met her, she had a party for the cast and crew and that was a first meeting… she was in this beautiful gown that was sort of see-though and vintage and a diamond necklace… and I’m just trying to be cool. She said, ‘Are you nervous? I hear you are nervous.’ I said, ‘Yes.’ She said, ‘Don’t be nervous. I know about these things. I have been there.’ I was like, ‘Okay!'”

The first of 13 episodes premieres on FX on October 7.

Lady Gaga Brings Bisexual Character to ‘American Horror Story’

After much hype, the creators of American Horror Story have revealed that Lady Gaga’s new character will be bisexual.

lady-gaga-american-horror-story-hotel

The series co-creator Ryan Murphy said that the pop star’s character will be a ‘wealthy, fashionable hotelier with a “nefarious plan” – and that her character will have steamy relationships with both male and female characters.

Lady Gaga plays a character who has relationships with Matt [Bomer] and Angela [Bassett] and Cheyenne [Jackson].

It’s sexier than any season we’ve done, particularly because of the Gaga of it, so I would say scarier and sexier.”

The series will see the return of Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett and Chloe Sevigny.
