11 Celebs Who’ve Opened Up About Their Lesbian Affairs

As we know, when you become a celebrity you basically sign up to have your life exposed to the public in anyway possible – right?! And that unfortunately includes their personal lives.

So why the fascination? Well because the details about their lives can make for quite a juicy read.  And sometimes their personal lives are even more interesting than their on-screen performances!

Check out these 10 celebrities who openly admitted to lesbian affairs, well, after the paparazzi had caught them a few times!

1. Gillian Anderson

Gillian Anderson told Out Magazine that she had a relationship with a girl throughout high school! But she is more comfortable calling herself a bisexual, or perhaps using no label, because her subsequent relationships have been with dudes. She also says because she knew she was attracted to men, so she didn’t feel especially stigmatised.

Gillian Anderson

If I had thought I was 100% gay, would it have been a different experience for me? Would it have been a bigger deal if shame had been attached to it and all those things that become huge life-altering issues for youngsters in that situation? It’s possible that my attitude around it came, on some level, from knowing that I still liked boys.”

She also added in Out

I don’t think I’ve ever followed convention by choice. By default, maybe, but not by choice.” Call yourself whatever you want, Gillian — we are girl crushing so hard.

2. Courtney Love

Courtney Love

Leave it to Courtney Love to over share about everything, including her lesbian fling.

It was Kate Moss. She doesn’t care. It’s a great story for the grandchildren so … yeah. Kate wasn’t doing a lot of drugs. It was just a thing that happened in Milan in the ‘90s.

It happened and it was fun and whatever. And she talks about it and so I hope she doesn’t get mad that I outed her about it … I feel like such a kiss and tell … Kate’s great, though! Kate’s a good friend of mine.”

3. Megan Fox

Megan Fox

Megan Fox is not a lesbian, according to Megan Fox. She’s just really, really attracted to women. She opened up about her love for the ladies in an infamous GQ interview.

I decided that I was in love with this girl that worked at the Body Shop. I decided that I was going to get her to love me back, and I went out of my way to create a relationship with this girl, a stripper named Nikita … Look, I’m not a lesbian. I just think that all humans are born with the ability to be attracted to both sexes … I mean, I could see myself in a relationship with a girl—Olivia Wilde is so sexy she makes me want to strangle a mountain ox with my bare hands. She’s mesmerising. And lately I’ve been obsessed with Jenna Jameson.”

4. Hayden Panettiere

Panettiere

Growing up, Hayden Panettiere admitted to practicing her make out moves on her girlfriends.

It’s great to be single. It’s great to have boyfriends. Or girlfriends. There are occasions when you kiss your best friend growing up, having fun and goofing about. Like perfecting your technique.”

5. Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie has ben open about her sexuality for quite some time, having had numerous encounters and relationships with women, including model and actress Jenny Shimizu.

I have loved women in the past and slept with them. I think if you love and want to pleasure a woman, particularly if you are a woman yourself, then certainly you know how to do things a certain way.”

On her relationship with Shimizu, she said

I probably would have married Jenny Shimizu if I hadn’t married [Jonny Lee Miller]. I fell in love with her the first second I saw her … she’s great. We had a lot of fun.”

6. Anna Paquin

Anna Paquin

Anna Paquin is adamantly open about her bisexuality. The actress told “Zooey” magazine in a 2009 interview…

For me, it’s not really an issue because I’m someone who believes being bisexual is actually a thing. It’s not made up. It’s not a lack of decision.”

7. Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore originally came out in an interview in Contact Magazine in 2003, saying…

Do I like women sexually? Yeah, I do. Totally. I have always considered myself bisexual… I love a woman’s body. I think a woman and a woman together are beautiful, just as a man and a woman together are beautiful. Being with a woman is like exploring your own body, but through someone else.”

8. Kesha

Kesha

In a bold early 2013 interview, pop star Kesha opened up about her sexuality to reporters, saying that she is not only attracted to men.

I don’t love just men,” said the singer. “I love people. It’s not about a gender. It’s just about the spirit that exudes from that other person you’re with.”

She also made a similar claim two years earlier to “Out” magazine: “I wouldn’t say I’m gay or straight -– I don’t like labelling things anyway. I just like people.”

9. Amber Rose

Amber Rose

Kanye West’s ex-girlfriend has long been perceived to be openly bisexual without actually addressing the way she identifies. In an interview with Complex magazine, the model sought to clarify the rumors:

They label me a bisexual freak stripper that fucks Kanye on a daily basis. To answer that: I’m extremely open with my sexuality. I can be in love with a woman; I can be in love with a man. I’m not into bestiality, but as far as humans go, I definitely find beauty in everybody, whether they’re heavy-set, super-skinny, if they’re white, black, Indian, Asian, Spanish. I can see beauty in anybody. I’m not into threesomes or orgies and shit like that. If I see a women and I think she’s beautiful and I like her, and she likes me back we can definitely try to be in a relationship together.”

10. Fergie

Fergie

On her lesbian liaisons, Fergie said

I have had lesbian experiences in the past. But I started having sex quite late on—after I was 18. I was raised a good Catholic girl”

11. Geri Halliwell

Geri Halliwell

I guess Geri Halliwell was looking to spice up her [love] life because she also fessed up to Howard Stern that she once had sex with a woman.

I had a little lesbian thing but I’m not saying anything about it. And I don’t think the girl was a real lesbian. I’m being honest. I’m not going to describe it. I realized pretty quickly that I was not a lesbian … I don’t mind boobs but the other bit is not my cup of tea. I could never ever say who it was. It was just one of those moments. I think it is just part of experimenting. It was just a drunken moment.”

Her mystery lesbian hookup probably felt like crap after reading this.

These Kids Reacting to Caitlyn Jenner Will Give You Hope (Video)

This video showing how children react to Caitlyn Jenner‘s transition is making me tear up with happiness, as I think about a world that is more accepting of the trans community.

The children who participated in the focus group video were presented with two pictures.

The first was a photo of a muscular 1976 Bruce Jenner in all his Olympic glory and the second a photo of Caitlyn Jenner in a red dress from her recent photo spread in Vanity Fair.

Caitlyn Jenner

They were then told the photos showed the same person.

While one child said, “How could a boy turn into a girl? That’s impossible,” the conversation eventually turned into one of acceptance.

hatch-cropped-4

One child saying…

It’s important to be yourself because if you’re not yourself, then who are you?”

hatch-cropped-2

The kids were also shown some of the reaction, both positive and negative, to Jenner on social media.

They looked at each other in astonishment when read a tweet, which read:

Bruce Jenner is a sick man and I don’t need a psychiatrist to tell me Bruce Jenner has a mental disorder.”

Several had thoughtful and mature reactions.

hatch-cropped013

I think they’re just scared of change, I think they just want everything to stay the same because they just don’t know how to handle it. It’s important for you to be yourself because if you’re not yourself then who are you?”

YouTube Beauty Guru Ingrid Nilsen Comes Out in Powerful New Video

You might know YouTuber Ingrid Nilsen from her stint as a judge on Project Runway: Threads, or maybe you’re one of her more than three million YouTube followers who have been watching her videos for the past six years.

And if you are, you know her to be one of the most honest video stars out there, someone who really connects with her fans.

Yesterday, Nilsen had an important message for her 3.3 million followers, announcing in an emotional 20-minute video that she is gay.

The video, which garnered more than 1 million hits in just eight hours, featured an alternately tearful and pensive Nilsen explaining how she decided to come clean about something very personal.

Looking *so* relieved to say the actual words, “I’m gay”, Ingrid gets right down to business when the video starts.

Just try not to cry with her as she spills her heart out on camera – it’s so, so touching.

She goes on to explain how she grew up in an environment where being gay was “not universally accepted” and that she was dating men just to “go through the motion.”

This is something that is a part of me and has always been a part of me”

Her last boyfriend, the “last guy she’ll ever date,” was “kind, respectful, and supportive,” but she couldn’t keep lying to herself.

I want to live my life unapologetically because I am proud of who I am and I am not going to apologize for who I am anymore. This is the life that I have always lived in my head and now it’s real.”

amy-schumer-04

Schumer was presented her award for Trailblazer of the Year by Jennifer Saunders.

It will be very exciting when what I am doing isn’t trailblazing anymore. but I’m very happy to have gotten this.”

Peppering her speech with comic tangents and one-liners, Schumer said:

I’m SO desperate for a selfie with Goldie Hawn that I’m not even going to ask. I would just want it for me, like I would just look at it every night and be like: ‘Goodnight.'”

She continued:

My mom told me I didn’t need to shave above my legs above the knee. I basically like Christopher Robin down there. Having advised women to “definitely get vaccinated for HPV”, Schumer added that she had one goal for the night. And that goal was “to take my underwear off at the end of the night and not make it look like I blew my nose on it.”

The comic has been known for making strong statements with her comedy, including her sketch The Last F**kable Day, which pokes fun at ageism in Hollywood, and the way some female actors present themselves on talk-shows.

Schumer’s sketches are showcased on her US programme Inside Amy Schumer.

The cast of Cruel Intentions FINALLY had a reunion and it was everything that we hoped for.

Out Model, Cara Delevingne Admits She ‘Wouldn’t Have Been A Supermodel’ Without Social Media

As we all know, Cara Delevingne is big. She is top model, and recently added actress and singer to her résumé, landing roles in Paper Towns and Suicide Squad, as well as holding her own alongside Pharrell on stage at Chanel’s Métiers d’Art show.

While we’re used to seeing Cara on the covers of magazines, seeing her on the cover of The Wall Street Journal Magazine was fairly unexpected. As always, though, Cara makes it clear that she belongs there (and on every other magazine, for that matter).

cara-wsj-cover-01

In the interview, Cara discusses her success in modeling, chalking it up to one thing—social media.

I wouldn’t have done as well if I hadn’t had that. Not at all. In the ’90s, I wouldn’t have been a supermodel.”

While those brows probably would’ve found fame with or without Instagram, there’s no denying that her following expanded so rapidly because of Instagram.
Christopher Bailey, Burberry’s CEO and chief creative officer, and the first person to give Cara a major modelling contract, sums it up perfectly, saying,

The platform suits Cara perfectly because it’s so immediate. They get to see the real her—occasionally crazy, always fun and absolutely authentic.”

That authenticity—plus her willingness to pull ~unconventional~ faces while posing—is what has made her so appealing to the masses and, it seems, what makes her a good actress. Paper Towns’ director Jake Schreier reveals that Cara beat out nearly 200 other actresses for the role of Margo Roth Spiegelman because,

There was a realness—it didn’t feel like she was acting.”

cara-wsj-cover-02

When you excel at modelling, acting, singing, and single-handedly moving the needle in favor of thick eyebrows everywhere, what’s next, career-wise? According to Cara, whatever, really.

I want to prove that you can be anything you want to be. I love working, and I love what I do. If I f–k it up now, it’s all my fault.”

Well, we cannot wait to see what’s next and, TBH, there are so many options! In the meantime, though, we’ll be monitoring Cara’s Instagram for all important updates.
You can find her entire cover story on the WSJ’s website.

UAE Media Try Desperately to Ignore Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi Marriage

TV-show host and comedian Ellen Degeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi took a trip to unannounced trip to Dubai over the weekend – causing a social media storm in the process. The celebrity couple apparently flew from the USA, last Friday to attend The Act Dubai in the Shangri-La Hotel on Sunday evening.

However, the media in the United Arab Emirates have been a little confused on how to address the fact that the couples are married, as being homosexual is illegal in the United Arab Emirates.

In fact, none of the UAE media mentioned the fact that the duo are married, choosing to skirt the issue entirely.

The National

We’ll just have to wait to see what the American chat show host Ellen DeGeneres and her friend, Scandal and Arrested Development actress Portia de Rossi, are doing in Dubai.”

ellen-degeneres-portia-gif
Of course, we would hope America’s favourite lesbians are also friends . . .

Gulf News

Very little is known about the pair’s visit to the city except that they were invited for dinner by the club’s management.”

ellen-degeneres-portia-gif-01

Hmmm . . . “pair” is a little different than the word “couple.”

Time Out Dubai

The comedienne was joined by actress Portia de Rossi for dinner at the Peruvian place too.”

ellen-degeneres-portia-gif-02

Interesting, another random actress joined her on her vacation - Oh wait, that’s her wife!

Arabian Business

Best known for hosting her daytime comedy chat show, DeGeneres was spotted with ‘Scandal’ actress Portia de Rossi on Sunday night.”

ellen-degeneres-portia-gif-03

How bizarre, Ellen was “spotted” hanging out with her own wife!

Ahlan Live

After the show both stars happily posed for pictures with the performers, before heading back to their hotel.”

ellen-degeneres-portia-gif-05

Do you think they would have said “both stars” if it was Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie? Hmmm, we wonder.

However, Al Bawaba, which is based in Amman, Jordan, but has an office in Dubai got the full story. Props to them.

Al Bawaba

The internet was ablaze yesterday, when TV host and Oscar presenter Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, actress Portia di Rossi were spotted in departures at Los Angeles’ LAX.”

ellen-degeneres-portia-gif-04

Now that wasn’t so hard, was it?

Degeneres has been a pioneer for LGBT rights in the United States, coming out publicly as a lesbian in 1997 on her television sitcom. She and de Rossi were married in 2008 but have been together since 2004.

Cate Blanchett: I never said I have had sexual relationships with women

In an interview published earlier this week with Variety, the magazine said it asked Cate Blanchett if this was her first turn as a lesbian to which they quote the two-time Oscar winner as “coyly” responding, “On film — or in real life?”  The outlet then noted “Pressed for details about whether she’s had past relationships with women, she responds: ‘Yes. Many times,’ but doesn’t elaborate.”

Cate Blanchett 02

This confession created worldwide headlines proclaiming Blanchett had experienced numerous lesbian affairs during her life.

However, during a press conference in Cannes while discussing her new lesbian / bi themed film Carol, Blanchett explained her quote had been judiciously edited for effect, and alas she is has not had sexual relationships with women.

From memory, the conversation ran: ‘Have you had relationships with women?’ And I said: ‘Yes, many times. Do you mean have I had sexual relationships with women? Then the answer is no.’ But that obviously didn’t make it.”

She also said she hoped for a time when it would no longer necessary for people to have to come out, saying:

In 2015, the point should be, ‘Who cares?’ Call me old fashioned, but I thought one’s job as an actor was not to present one’s boring, small, microscopic universe, but to raise and expand your sense of the world and make a psychological and empathetic connection to another character’s experience so you could present something other than your own world to an audience.

My own life is of no interest to anyone else. It is, I know, but I’m certainly not interested in putting my own thoughts and opinions up there. Why I love being an actor and working is what you refer to before, the research.  It’s finding other people’s experiences and making those beautiful, intangible [connections] that will communicate something.”

Variety has not responded as yet to Blanchett’s assertion, but it’s hard to believe an actress of her sterling reputation would make this clear clarification if she did not believe their assertion was inaccurate.

Blanchett went on to say she admired the restraint exhibited by the characters in the film, who speak about the sex lives only sparingly.

Carol’s sexuality is a private affair. What often happens these days is if your are homosexual you have to talk about it constantly, the only thing, before your work. We’re living in a deeply conservative time.”

The actor confirmed that her research had involved consuming countless lesbian novels written in the middle of the last century, of which Carol appeared to be “the only one with a happy ending”.

Carol-01

They were outsider novels. Carol was not a card-carrying member of any sexual persuasion. That’s also important to remember: those labels, those groups, the comfort of them, didn’t exist then. The resultant isolation was very important.”

The film is being regarded as the most mainstream American depiction of a lesbian relationship made to date.

Cate-Blanchett-Carol-01

Screenwriter, Phyllis Nagy, spent 14 years attempting to make this movie; now that she has, she said, it amounted to “a huge political statement.”

nothing has changed and everything has changed. Because we can have this movie now. It starts the kinds of discussion we need to have about this issue. We do not we politicise the material by just allowing people to live their lives honestly. [Gay people] are expected to make it an issue front and centre in our lives. But actually when you live your life, your identity is front and centre – but it’s something we’re not often treated to seeing in films.”

The cast and crew expressed the hope that the film might help change policy in the “70 countries round the world in which homosexuality is still illegal”. “It’s important to talk about,” continued Blanchett, while her co-star Rooney Mara, agreed “there’s a long way to go before we’re not talking about it”.

BFFs Cara Delevingne and Zoë Kravitz Just Made the Craziest Rom-Com Film Ever – Must watch

Cara Delevingne and her new BFF Zoë Kravitz have been hanging out in Cannes without us. But do not fret as made this by make a weird movie about it.

My babes. @caradelevingne | @pgdm | #cannes

A photo posted by Zoë Kravitz (@zoeisabellakravitz) on

The cafe where they filmed it looks exactly like the kind of place where you would hope to find Cara, her friends, and French cheese.

Because we CANNES! Zoe vs Zoe @zoeisabellakravitz @pgdm #idbangher #excusethepun   A video posted by Cara Delevingne (@caradelevingne) on

This Instagram video is a bit of a mind f*ck in that we don’t have the slightest idea of what’s happening. But basically, here’s the plot.

  1. Cara urges Zoë to tell Jimmy she loves him. (Jimmy is a guy with white-blond hair and horrible taste.)
  2. Enter Zoë’s clone who has the confidence to give this guy her number.
  3. Zoë watches so she can see what would happen if she professed her love.
  4. But the guy is not into her at all.
  5. Cara and some other dude think she’s really hot though.
  6. Zoë’s thinks that Zoë (herself and her competition) is gross.

We get it: it’s an art film. The film doesn’t concern itself with logic so we can’t really follow it. Instead, we must abandon disbelief as we watch one Zoë accept defeat and agree that the other Zoë is horrible. The best tack is to just draw your own conclusion.

Why are so Many Female Celebrities Opting to Not Label Themselves Bisexual?

Last week, when launching her Happy Hippie Foundation campaign to help homeless LGBT youth, Miley Cyrus told the Associated Press that not all her relationships have been “straight or heterosexual”, but no B word in play.

Raven-Symoné is also another women who does not want to be labelled. When asked by Oprah if was gay, Raven gave a very careful answer. “I don’t want to be labelled ‘gay,'” Raven says. “I want to be labelled ‘a human who loves humans.'”

Then there is also Gillian Anderson who also came out as having had a relationship with another woman after the death of an ex-lover. She told the Times newspaper she that she is “aware of the need for being open about fluid sexuality” but has not yet called herself bisexual.

Gillian-Anderson-11

The Oscar-nominated Maria Bello came out in a New York Times op-ed she titled Coming Out as a Modern Family. She openly wrote about falling in love and beginning a relationship with her best female friend, but refrained from using the ‘B’ word and instead called herself a, “whatever.”

Later she told the Huffington Post,

Things shift and change and it’s fluid, and I think the younger generation is knowing that more and [is] excited about it. It’s not static — life just isn’t — and we have to create better labels to embrace the beauty of who we are.”

Maria Bello 05

In 2014 the ex-Spice Girl, Mel B, told the Guardian newspaper:

People call me lesbian, bisexual or heterosexual, but I know who’s in my bed and that’s it. I have a huge libido and a great sex life… Well, I did have a four-year relationship with a woman. But I’ve been very happily married for seven years to a penis. Ha ha! An amazing guy.”

So why are so many women opting to call themselves Bisexual? Is it that they are simply pansexual, and not limiting their sexual choice to biological sex, gender, or gender identity? Or is it that labels are simply too oppressive?

I am from a generation where stating who I am and who I am dating was about pride. I am proud to call myself a gay woman – a lesbian. And my friends will equally address themselves as such – be it bisexual, queer or gay.

So why the uncomfortable shift to not label? We have seen many celebrities be burnt with announcing they’re bisexual, but ending up with a man – Jessie J managed to cause so much offence when she stated she was no longer bisexual.

The Sex and the City star, Cynthia Nixon, once told the Daily Beast…

I don’t pull out the ‘bisexual’ word because nobody likes the bisexuals. Everybody likes to dump on the bisexuals.”

cynthia-nixon-21

Then there are others who champion their bisexuality. Anna Paquin went to town on Larry King when questioned her about her sexuality during an interview.

“Are you a non-practicing bisexual,” King asked her.

“Well, I am married to my husband [Stephen Moyer], and we are happily monogamously married,” she replied.

“But you were bisexual?” King asked.

“Well, I don’t think it’s a past tense thing,” she continued. “Are you still straight if you are with somebody?

“If you were to break up with them or if they were to die, it doesn’t prevent your sexuality from existing. It doesn’t really work like that.”

Anna Paquin

Also read: Raven Symoné Supports Miley Cyrus on Not Wanting to be Labeled Bisexual

So does refusing to adopt the bisexual label contributed further to bi invisibility?

No stranger to the label debate is Australian actress and founder of feminist website herself.com, Caitlin Stasey. When interviewed last year, she stated she recently decided to steer clear of labelling her sexuality.

Because if I say I’m bisexual, people say it doesn’t exist, and if I say I’m gay, people say I’m belittling the plight of all other women who consider themselves gay. I found a word that I identified with, I was told I couldn’t have it, and now I just think fuck it. I’m attracted to whom I’m attracted to.”

Caitlin-Stasey-02

Some of us live in a countries where same-sex relationships are still not legally recognised – where being a part of the LGBT community is still considered “other”.

So in one sense the coverage is good – it sparks conversations that hopefully help people realise sexuality lies on a spectrum, and where you fall is your place to label if you feel the need to do so.

Maybe one day bisexuality will be the norm. Or perhaps we’re slowly but surely entering an age, led by the politically correct Tumblr generation, in which we recognise, accept, and are no longer fearful of sexuality.

And beyond the labelling? Maybe one day we’ll wake to the news of a famous actress admitting she’s had relationships with many people, no mention of gender.

Cate Blanchett Confirms Her Past Relationships With Women

Blink and you’ll miss it – but Cate Blanchett just confirmed she has enjoyed past relationships with women.

In new piece with Variety, the six-time Oscar nominee talks about playing the lead in Carol, a new lesbian romance based on Patricia Highsmith‘s novel The Price of Salt. In the article, Blanchett also mentions that she has had relationships with women “many times” before – wow!

Cate Blanchett 02

From the article…

When asked if this is her first turn as a lesbian, Blanchett curls her lips into a smile. “On film — or in real life?” she asks coyly. Pressed for details about whether she’s had past relationships with women, she responds: “Yes. Many times,” but doesn’t elaborate. Like Carol, who never “comes out” as a lesbian, Blanchett doesn’t necessarily rely on labels for sexual orientation. “I never thought about it,” she says of how she envisioned the character. “I don’t think Carol thought about it.” The actress studied the era by picking up banned erotic novels. “I read a lot of girl-on-girl books from the period,” she says.

This is the first time she’s spoken about having been with women. However, the actress is currently is married to Australian writer/director Andrew Upton, so any further outings with women will be pretty limited.

Cate Blanchett 03

Carol is an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s 50s lesbian pulp novel The Price of Salt. While lesbian pulp novels usually ended in tragedy (it would have been blasphemous to end them in blissful romance) Highsmith broke barriers by doing the opposite. In The Price of Salt the lead falls for a young woman – a department store clerk and artist – and spoiler alert (!) it ends in a way that lets us imagine that the two women end up happy together.

On the film, director Todd Haynes says

In some ways, the event of a gay love story is less surprising every day. But I think love stories are hard to pull off, period. They require external forces that keep the lovers apart.”

Cate is now one of several public women who have spoken about having relationships with women, while also not labelling themselves, much like Miley Cyrus.

Gossip Alert | Which Out It Girl’s Relationship May Be On The Rocks?

It’s easy to be all cozy and coupled up in the winter, but now that spring fever has set in, many couples in Hollywood are finding it a lot harder to stay oh so in love.

Rumours have been flying the past few weeks that Cara Delevingne fling with rocker St. Vincent (aka Annie Clark) is on the rocks.

The model and now actress took to Twitter to curb the rumours – tweeting that she’s “very much in love.”

But sources at Star are telling us a verrrrrry different story…

The relationship is a constant roller coaster that’s more of a partying partnership than a love affair. It’s always the same story with Cara–her romances are hot and sexual, then turn into a slippery slope of too much partying that leads to nonstop fighting.”

Hmmm… We had always assumed that dating the ever-in-demand Delevingne was pretty much like this. She doesn’t exactly seem the type to stay home baking pies and giving foot rubs.

Hello – did you see her at the Met Gala??

But for now, St. V seems to be OK with Cara’s antics.

They’ve patched things up. but it’s a toxic relationship that no one thinks will last.”

Did we think it would – Cara is in young and St. V is in her 30s, so we wouldn’t be shocked if she was looking for something a bit more stable, would you?

Ever Wondered What Cara Delevingne’s Inner Super-Villain Looks Like?

Have you ever wondered what Cara Delevingne’s inner super-villain looks like?

Well wonder no more, as director David Ayer tweets the very first photo of Delevingne and her costars in character as the Suicide Squad.

Based on the DC Comic of the same name, Suicide Squad follows the adventures of a larger-than-life team of bad guys from popular DC franchises.

Delevingne plays Enchantress, who unlike the majority of the movie’s Squad lineup, is a morally ambiguous character; a schizophrenic with two distinct personalities, she can be a hero or villain depending on which side is in control of her magical abilities at any time — which can lead to problems when she switches in the middle of a mission.

Suicide Squad is the latest in a seemingly endless line of superhero movies that have been released recently, and there’s more to come – between now and 2020, Warner Bros plans to release ten more films based on characters from the DC Comics universe.

Lily Tomlin on the Long Road to Being Public About her Sexuality

Lily Tomlin has often quietly spoken about her sexuality – and married her long-term partner Jane Wagner on New Year’s Eve 2013, but its only now she is starting openly discuss her sexuality in interviews.

Lily Tomlin

Speaking to HuffPo Live, she opened up her life in the transparent closet – joking that “everyone” already knew she was a lesbian.

I was on Carson one night [in 1971], and he [asked if I wanted kids], and I said no… the audience was deathly still. That was a hot subject to bring up to a straight audience. I wasn’t totally forthcoming. Everybody in the business knew I was gay, and certainly everybody I worked with and everything like that.

I just never had a press conference to announce it. In 1975, [TIME magazine] wanted to put me on the cover just for being gay! I was making my third album at the time.”

However, Tomlin did not agree to do the cover – and kept her sexuality off-the-record until years later.

I wonder if I had come out on that ’75 cover on TIME, if I would have had as long a career as I’ve had. It would have been an inopportune time to make such a grand statement. I mean, Ellen [DeGeneres] didn’t really come out until 20 years later. It’s been a long life… I’ve been really lucky.”

Tomlin is currently working with Jane Fonda on the comedy series Grace and Frankie, which is a comedy drama called Grace and Frankie, which follows long-time rivals Grace and Frankie, who are brought together after their husbands announce they are in love with each other and plan to get married. The 13-part Netflix series, is set to air from May 8.

Lena Dunham Explains What Rape Does To Women’s Voices

When Lena Dunham received an award at Variety’s Women in Power luncheon on Friday, she spoke up about her own sexual assault and why she’s been motivated to help other victims.

lena-dunham-01

Dunham was being honoured for her work with GEMS, an organisation that works to empower girls who fell into human trafficking. The HBO actress is now using her personal experience – and voice as a celebrity – to help others.

When I was raped, I felt powerless. I felt my value had been determined by someone else. Someone who sent me the message that my body was not my own, and my choices were meaningless. It took years to recognize my personal worth was not tied to my assault; the voices telling me I deserved this were phantoms, they were liars. So as a feminist and a sexual assault survivor, my ultimate goal is to use my experience, my platform, and yes, my privilege, to reverse stigma and give voice to other survivors.”

Dunham also spoke of the stigma surrounding human trafficking victims and how there needs to be a shift in awareness and education.

Despite this clear lack of agency, we as a society somehow think that 14-year-old runaways make a choice to be in the commercial sex industry. We call these girls names and judge them and write pop songs celebrating their assailants and their fancy sneakers. We think that locking them up will help them make better choices. We look at youth in the commercial sex industry in America as willing participants in their own victimisation, ignoring the disenfranchisement that comes with being poor, from being a child, from being a girl of color, from being a homeless LGBT youth, from being a kid in foster care.

We ignore what it must be like to be bought and sold by adult men and to spend your adolescence that this is what you’re worth, that your voice doesn’t matter, that you have no power.”

Amber Heard Discusses Why She Signed to do the New Eddie Redmayne Film ‘The Danish Girl’

Bisexual actress Amber Heard, now married to Johnny Depp has been discussing her reasons for joining Eddie Redmayne in the film The Danish Girl.

In the film, Redmayne plays an artist famous for getting one of the first known gender-reassignment surgeries. Heard plays his wife.

Talking to IndieWire, she said

It’s story about heart and love between two people and identity as well and it just so happens to be also an LGBT issue. Discrimination, identity, family relationships love, all these things within the context of a society. All of these things within a society that doesn’t accept that. Somebody undergoing a sex change to fully realize themselves is incredibly compelling for me.

I’m obviously a major advocate for equality and as a member of the LGBT community, I am honored to be able to be part of a story that represents a part of that struggle and that life.”

Heard has been a staunch advocate for the LGBTI community, which is one of the reasons why she wanted to star in the upcoming film. She came out as bisexual in 2010.

There’s always been gay people. That’s a fact. And I’m not trying to say that having ambiguous gender identity, I’m not saying that’s new. Look at the Greek culture, that’s fairly recent too in the span of human culture, but to actively be able to change it in this way…awesome.”

In the interview the Austin-born actress also discusses the limitations she faced being an actress.

you’re constantly asked to choose between one of two archetypes: sexy or not. And within the “not,” you perhaps can acquire for yourself a few different traits, but they’re going to be severely limited. The story’s not going to be about you. In the former, it’s completely unfulfilling work to undergo and it’s not fulfilling for an audience to watch. It’s incredible frustrating that a system is in place where you have to choose one or the other. I should not have to choose to be taken seriously or to be beautiful.”

The Danish Girl will be released in December.

Queen Latifah Discusses Racial Profiling and Her Journey to Sucess

Queen Latifah and Keke Palmer have joined forces for the new film Brotherly Love. The family-centric film explores the lives of several Philadelphia residents as they pursue their dreams and deal with harsh reality.

BET sat with Latifah, who produced the film, and Palmer, who stars, to talk about their mentor-protege relationship, the sacrifices each made to get where they are, and about a particular scene in the film — in which a Black kid is harassed by a white cop — that rings tragically true in the wake of so many instances of police brutality splashed across headlines.

On that last topic, Latifah had a lot to share.

As a daughter of a police officer, I knew more stories of things happening in the right way rather than the wrong way, but you don’t really hear those stories.”

Palmer adds that the film aims to “humanise” the young Black men so often perceived to be a threat by law enforcement and vigilantes.

The multi-talented music icon hopes the film will help put things in perspective when it comes to cops pulling guns on teenagers. “We have to see kids as kids, not as big, scary adult men,” she says.

Brotherly Love is out in theatres on April 24.

One of Aussie TV’s Most Loved Television Presenters has Come Out as Gay

Faustina “Fuzzy” Agolley is one of Aussie TV’s most loved television presenters, and as part of her 31st birthday celebrations, the former model has publicly come out as gay.

Fuzzy made it big in Australia, hosting most watched music program Video Hits on Network Ten. It was a job that took her all over the world to interview music’s biggest entertainers including the Alicia Keys, Kanye West, Adele, Green Day, Rihanna, and Sinead O’Connor.

She made the revelation in a blog post entitled I’m gay, which was published today.

As a child I always knew I was gay, but somewhere the feeling got lost. A long and, not always scenic, route ensued to bring me back to who I truly am.”

She attributed her decision to come out to meeting a “tribe” of women whom she could connect to.

For the first time in my life I came to the full realisation of who I am and I felt safe in their company. They bolstered my confidence and gave me my voice again. And I love them eternally for it.”

Fuzzy – whose father is from Ghana and mother is Chinese-Malaysian – went on to conclude by posting to her Instagram account these powerful words:

As black as my skin, as Chinese as my blood, and as Australian and British are my nationalities, I’m also a proud gay woman. Most importantly though, I’m a happy human being.”

And tonight, to coincide with my birthday, I’m celebrating with friends over Rainbow Cake. It’s the Elton John of cakes, complete with rainbow flares.

As a child I always knew I was gay, but somewhere the feeling got lost. A long and, not always scenic, route ensued to bring me back to who I truly am.

What I needed was to find my tribe. I wasn’t actively seeking it, though sometime last year I met a group of women that I could truly connect to. I could see myself in them in many ways. And they are women of character who I aspire to. Most importantly, they are women that are generous and kind. For the first time in my life I came to the full realisation of who I am and I felt safe in their company. They bolstered my confidence and gave me my voice again. And I love them eternally for it.

Thankfully my tribe has now extended to my family and friends that I’ve had the confidence to come out to. We’ve created noise, a celebratory noise. We’ve drowned out the negativity that sadly weaves through many homes, communities, governments and countries throughout the world.

In life, philosophy and literature imparts one of the greatest lessons we continuously come back to, and that is to know thyself. For those reading this who are LGBT and haven’t come out – even when society may not deem you equal because of your sexuality – know that you are. And just like in my situation, know that there are people in the world that have your back.

Some may be asking “Why does she feel the need to write this?”. The answer is that there is nothing I’m leveraging off or deliberately seeking. This simply feels like the right and natural way to let it be known, sincerely.

As black as my skin, as Chinese as my blood, and as Australian and British are my nationalities, I’m also a proud Gay Woman.

Most importantly though, I’m a happy human being.

Love,

Faustina Agolley

The Game of Thrones Anarchist, Maisie Williams Leads a New Army of British Creatives In Dazed magazine

Who are the best and boldest new talents in the UK today? On the eve of the next general election, Dazed magazine is championing the young creatives setting their own cultural agenda.

Leading the pack is Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams, who is taking a stand for young people – in her uniquely brilliant and outspoken way.

As she turns 18 just in time to vote, the young anarchist talks sexual taboos, feminism, and which box she’ll be checking come May 7.

People think we’re f***ing stupid and we don’t know anything about anything. You have no idea what it’s like to be 17 years old.”

She went on to describe the difficulty of being patronised and, refreshingly, likes to use the limelight to speak out on behalf of young people and the issues they face.

Whether I like it or not, I’ve become influential to people. I don’t wanna be liked just because I’m pretty. That’s f**king boring, and I’m not that. Lots of young people in the industry try to play it cool, but it just makes them look like arrogant d***heads. I’d much rather be liked because people realise that I’m standing up for myself.”

Inside the magazine, the actress dons a hessian robe with the hood resting on her fresh, make-up free face and holds a single flower in her hands. The photos were taken by Ben Toms and Dazed fashion director Robbie Spencer for our explosive, ten-page cover story.

Williams knows where she stands in the world of celebrity culture, and being a person many youngsters look up to, and has made her more responsible of her public persona.

And thankfully she hasn’t gone down the route of teen celebs – wearing too much make-up and not enough clothes – to increase her fame.
