Ellen DeGeneres, Madonna, Lady Gaga And More React To Pulse Nightclub Massacre

Dozens of high-profile artists, politicians and prominent members of the queer community have taken to social media to voice their horror at this weekend’s massacre, which left 50 patrons dead at Pulse, a prominent gay nightclub in Orlando.

While some celebrities simply offered their condolences and emphasized their support of the victims and their families, many others demanded the reform of U.S. gun laws, a move they insist could prevent future violent deaths.

Ellen DeGeneres Weighs In On Debate About That Lesbian Couple In ‘Finding Dory’

Ever since the latest trailer for the highly anticipated Pixar sequel Finding Dory landed last month, speculation over two women in a short clip have made headlines, with many of us interpreting them to be a lesbian couple.

giphy-17

However, we may have gotten a little too overexcited by the clip, after film makers refused to confirm or deny the couple’s sexuality when quizzed.

Talking to USA Today, director Andrew Stanton said ambiguously

They can be whatever you want them to be. There’s no right or wrong answer,”

But refused to confirm what many us would have hoped for.

And now Ellen DeGeneres – who stars as Dory in the film – has a pretty dry response to the hysteria over the clip.

She said:

I didn’t see it. One of the woman has really short hair. And I have to say, it’s not a great haircut because it was really chopped up in the back… I think people assume anyone with a bad short haircut is gay.”
The comedian added.

Robin Wright has short hair. There are a lot of woman that are straight that have short hair. It’s just not as common.”

Last month’s heightened speculation speaks to the degree to which many people want to see LGBT representation in a major Disney-distributed film — be it animation, superheroes or Star Wars characters.

The Sims Just Binned Gender-Specific Character Restrictions

Last week, Maxis – the studio behind long-running life simulator series The Sims – announced a small change to their current title, The Sims 4.

The free update, automatically rolled out to all users, would apparently make changes so

…female Sims can wear suits like Ellen [DeGeneres], and male Sims can wear heels like Prince”.

976

In reality it did much, much more than that.

The game, has removed binary gender categories for clothes, hairstyles, accessories and physical characteristics – such as voice pitch – in its customisation options for characters.

blogpost from Maxis announced the changes and focused on the game’s history of LGBT support and the freedom it wanted to offer players.

The Sims is made by a diverse team for a diverse audience, and it’s really important to us that players are able to be creative and express themselves through our games”, the post reads. “We want to make sure players can create characters they can identify with or relate to through powerful tools that give them influence over a Sims gender, age, ethnicity, body type and more.”

The Sims has allowed same-sex characters to kiss and fall in love since the game’s original incarnation in 2000.

This progressive gameplay stance, rare for its time, was originally unintended. When demoing the game at the E3 games show, two female characters began to kiss in a live simulation.

In a New Yorker piece, entitled ‘The Kiss That Changed Video Games Forever’, Patrick J Barrett, one of the game developers, recalled:

No other game had facilitated same-sex relationships before – at least, to this extent – and some people figured that maybe we weren’t the ideal ones to be first.”

But the developers decided not to alter the game code and to keep same-sex relationships in place.

The option for same-sex marriage was introduced in The Sims 3, released in 2009, while the first offline same-sex marriages did not happen until March 2014 in the UK and June the following year in the US. The option for gay couples to adopt was also introduced in the game’s third iteration.

Looks Like Pixar Just Casually Introduced Us To It’s First Ever Animated Lesbian Couple

In the new, extended trailer for Finding Dory, there is a short glimpse of couple, which many eagle-eyed Twitter users believe to be the first appearance of an animated lesbian couple.

Found at around the one-minute mark of the teaser, it shows the couple with their baby, which is then swapped with an octopus.

It’s quite possible that the couple are friends, rather than the parents, but so far Pixar has not commented on the matter. So it’s speculation ahoy.

tumblr_inline_o7q57idGYp1shx9h6_1280 tumblr_inline_o7q57iNgh81shx9h6_1280

Whether the fact that Ellen DeGeneres – perhaps the most influential gay celebrity in the world – might have had a hand in matters is also cause for wild speculation, but Pixar has long supported the LGBT cause.

It was among a number of companies and institutions, including Google, Facebook and Apple, which released a series of videos as part of the ‘It Gets Better’ project, with some of the animation giant’s employees speaking about their experiences of being gay and coming out.

In recent weeks, a campaign has emerged, to try and persuade the makers of ‘Frozen 2’ to sort Elsa out with a girlfriend.

Sia Debuts ‘Finding Dory’ Theme Song On The Ellen Show

Apparently, SIA was personally asked by Ellen DeGeneres to cover and perform the theme tune for Finding Dory.

rs_600x600-160520083315-600.Sia-Finding-Dory-FB-052016

The song used for the highly-anticipated film is Nat King Cole’s Unforgettable. Ellen – the voice of Dory – asked the singer to do the cover

Finding Dory is set six months after the events of Finding Nemo, but this time the story will mostly take place at the Marine Biology Institute of California, where Dory was born. She lives with Nemo and his dad Marlin in a coral reef in the ocean.

When she and her friend go on a field trip to the institute, she recalls memories of her past and family—basically, that she has both—and seeks to find her parents, Jenny and Charlie, portrayed by Diane Keaton and Eugene Levy.

Dory was such a hit with fans that a spin-off film just focusing on Dory will hit in July.

Sia was on the show to perform her version of the classic song (and it’s amazing).

Ellen DeGeneres & Wanda Sykes Take On Beyonce’s ‘Lemonade’ – The Results Are Legendary

Ellen DeGeneres and Wanda Sykes were at their best this past week, as the duo spoofed Beyonce’s hit video album Lemonade.

In the video, DeGeneres spots Beyonce walking down the street while sitting in her car and quickly whips out her phone to call her friend “Becky with the good hair” while watching the singer grab hold of a baseball bat.

ellen_makes_lemonade_ellentube.com_

“You will not believe this but Queen Bey has gone cra-cra!” she tells her friend “Becky” on the phone.

“I think she hates cars!” she quips while watching Beyonce smashing her way past cars and a water hydrant with the bat.

DeGeneres ends the call quickly saying: “Becky, I have to go. I’m gonna call you back. But I do love what you’re doing with your hair. It looks good,” touching on the singer’s reference in her song to a woman who her husband Jay Z may (or may not) have been involved with.

The funniest part of the video is probably Beyonce is shown as walking towards DeGeneres and later standing on the roof of her car, smashing the windscreen with her bat.

Trying to deflect the violent attack, the show host yells: “Look! Look! That’s Becky with the good hair,” and gestures to wig and baseball bat sporting-funny lady Wanda Sykes, who responds with:

“What? Girl, I’m Wanda with the good weave!” before swinging her bat at the screen and ending the video.

She said:

As the ‘Formation’ tour makes its stop in the Tar Heel state in the midst of such a controversial time, we think it is important for us to bring attention to those who are committed to being good and carrying on the message of equality in this core of controversy.

Among the many organizations doing the good work to get this bill overturned, there is Equality NC, a local organization dedicated to securing equal rights and justice for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) North Carolinians.”

The directors of Captain America: Civil War, Joe and Anthony Russo, have said there’s a “strong” chance that we’ll see an LGBT character in a Marvel movie.

I think the chances are strong. I mean, it’s incumbent upon us as storytellers who are making mass-appeal movies to make mass-appeal movies, and to diversify as much as possible. It’s sad in the way that Hollywood lags behind other industries so significantly, one because you think that it would be a progressive industry, and two it’s such a visible industry. So I think it’s important that on all fronts we keep pushing for diversification because then the storytelling becomes more interesting, more rich, and more truthful.”

Daily Juice: Tegan & Sara’s New Single Hits The Air Waves, Queer Black Women Lead New ‘Black Panther’ Comic, Plus Jodie Foster Talks Taxi Driver.

Tegan and Sara have premiered their new single Boyfriend today on Beats Radio,

Sara Quin had this to say about the track:

It’s a pretty straightforward pop song about a relationship that I was getting into with a girl who had never dated a girl before and she had a guy, a boyfriend guy that she was sort of seeing, and we used to joke around that she was treating me like her boyfriend, and I was trying to get her to sort of you, you know, tie it down.

I wanted her to make it official with me. I think that’s pretty relatable. Obviously, being gay, you know, the sort of bit of a gender twist in the song. I get that that it sometimes doesn’t seem immediately relatable to everybody whether they’re straight or gay or whatever but we’ve all been in that situation where we really like someone and we want to make it official, and they’re not ready.”

Even her former partner and co-star Stevie J also voiced his disapproval, telling TMZ he doesn’t want their daughter raised in a lesbian household.

Mimi has now taken to Instagram to address the matter, and lets hope she can put this too bed once and for all.

In 2016 we should not be using gay and lesbian as a way to degrade someone. Someone’s sexuality is not a reflection of their character and more importantly what type of parent they are. The most important thing is that the child feels love regardless of whether it comes from a man or a woman. We should continue the strides we have made over the last 50+ years and allow people to be who they are.”

Ellen Degeneres Slams Mississippi’s New Religious Discrimination Law (Video)

Ellen Degeneres is making a stand against the recent spate of laws allowing discrimination against LGBT people in America.

Ellen Degeneres Slams Mississippi’s

Speaking on her show this, Degeneres addressed Mississippi‘s new law on and the impact it has on us all.

Now, I’m not a political person, I’m really not. But this is not politics this is human rights. And I mean, when I see something wrong, I have to talk about it. It’s the same thing that I do when I see men wearing Spandex in line at Starbucks. It’s wrong and I need to discuss it.”

Mississippi’s religious freedom bill, which was passed earlier this week, allows businesses to discriminate against LGBT people.

However, unlike bills passed in other states, Mississippi’s House Bill 1523 only protects people with anti-LGBT religious views, making it the most anti-LGBT bill to date.

It states that it’s acceptable to discriminate someone who identifies as LGBT, if the view is held that marriage should only be between a man and a woman, sex should only happen in marriage and male and female refer only to someone’s anatomy.

My manager asked me to accompany her to events. She was scared people would not watch the show, her sitcom Ellen, because she was gay. It was an honor. I grew up with two gay aunts and a gay uncle. My Aunt died of cancer. She was a proud woman and she didn’t get proper care because she didn’t want to be away from her partner. Hospitals didn’t allow partners the same rights as a spouse. When you have someone you love in your life that is gay or a lesbian it’s very clear that they deserve the same rights as anyone else. It’s not about religion. Portia de Rossi’s Mocked With Hateful Comments For Being Too Thin

This week, Scandal actress Portia De Rossi and hit the red carpet for a PaleyFest panel with the rest of the show’s cast at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. The next day, celeb websites and gossip mags were buzzing about apperance — but they weren’t talking about her role on the show.

De Rossi’s became the subject of a major mean girl attack when photos surfaced showing her looking what critics deemed as “too skinny.”

OK! Magazine published a slideshow of photos of the actress with the headline, “Portia De Rossi Is Skin And Bones Amid Relationship Trouble Rumors With Ellen DeGeneres,” and called her “frightening frail.”

Radar put up a similar slideshow and claimed, “Portia de Rossi recently created alarm when her midriff-baring top showed her too-skinny frame.”

Beyond the inherent wrongness of body-shaming any woman, the comments take on a whole new low when one remembers that de Rossi has discussed her lifelong struggles with an eating disorder many times.

rsz_portia-de-rossi-and-robin-roberts-02

She told the documentary series It Got Better in 2015.

I felt tremendous responsibility when I was 12 years old and I was put on a catwalk. My modeling agents had told me to go on a diet. So I didn’t eat for 10 days before then.”

De Rossi told Good Morning America‘s Robin Roberts in a 2010 interview, reported ABC News.

From that age I learned that what I looked like was more important than what I thought, what I did and who I was.”

De Rossi has since seemingly managed to maintain a healthy weight, but even if she has lost weight recently, shaming her for being “too skinny” is a particularly hateful thing to do.

Eating disorders are serious diseases, and one wouldn’t shame someone for having cancer, so someone who suffers from an eating disorder shouldn’t be shamed for it, either.

Obama Credits Ellen DeGeneres For Gay Rights Progress (Video)

President Barack Obama was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show the end of last week, where she thanked him for his efforts to advance gay rights in the U.S.

However, while he accepted DeGeneres’ praise, Obama said that it was really she who deserved recognition for changing attitudes.

As much as we’ve done with laws and ending Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, etc. — changing hearts and minds — I don’t think anybody’s been more influential than you on that. Your courage — and you’re just really likable. You being willing to claim who you were then suddenly empowers other people.”

DeGeneres’ openness about her own sexuality, especially on a highly viewed daytime television program, allowed a wide audience to relate to, and empathize with, gay people who have been historically marginalized and discriminated against.

Obama added,

And then attitudes shift, and the laws followed. But it started with folks like you.”

DeGeneres’ came out nearly 20 years ago 1997 in real life and on her successful TV show Ellen. Since then DeGeneres has helped shift mainstream attitudes about the gay community in a way that bolstered Obama’s efforts on Capitol Hill.

DeGeneres appeared visibly moved by the president’s compliment. Then, after a short silence joked

I’m not really gay. I just thought it would work and I’ve had to stick with it because people responded well.”

The pair laughed together in what was arguably one of the more memorable moments of the show’s history.

The couple have now been together since 2013, and are raising Bello’s teenage son together.

Her name is Ingrid and she is a big YouTuber. But she’s also one of the most brilliant, soulful people I’ve ever met. It’s so good.”

10. Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi

The 41st Annual People's Choice Awards - Arrivals

Although rumors of divorce seem to always trouble Ellen and Portia, they still are the queen and queen of lesbian couples. They have been together since 2004 and tied the knot in 2008 – the equivalent of a 30-year marriage in celebrity years. They have both kept their successful careers going, and always seem to be incredibly psyched on each other.

11. Lily Tomlin and Jane Wagner

Lily Tomlin and Jane Wagner

Actress Lily Tomlin and writer Jane Wagner may have gotten legally married in 2013, but the pair met 44 years ago, in 1971.

In the 2012 book We Killed, legendary comic Tomlin told the story of how she’d wanted to come out about her relationship with writer Wagner at the height of the career in ’70s, but was told she couldn’t because it would ruin her career.

And then, after that, we had to go outside to the car, which was in front of the theatre. There was a huge audience, and when we got in the car, her fans were rocking the car back and forth. And the idea that somebody’s career could actually be ruined and that their lives could get ruined was astonishing. To go from that to ‘You can’t let out that you’re gay or they’ll hate you’ struck me.”

Forty years later, they are out and people still love Lily.

12. Lauren Blitzer and Chely Wright

Lauren Blitzer and Chely Wright

Another awesome married couple. Chely and Lauren met only two weeks after Chely came out of the closet in 2010, and they were married soon after. The now have twin sons and post loads of pictures of them on Twitter. Chely has been a great advocate for LGBT rights and did a documentary about her coming out story.

13. Leisha Hailey and Camila Grey

Leisha Hailey and Camila Grey

The band mates went public about their relationship in 2011 after they were discriminated against on a Southwest flight. They don’t talk much about their romantic relationship, but they did say in their statement, “We were simply being affectionate like any normal couple.” Just any normal hot couple.

14. Melissa Etheridge and Linda Wallem

Melissa Etheridge and Linda Wallem

The musician and TV writer were best friends for years before they took it to the next level and Melissa couldn’t be happier.

Finally through relationships and through my own growth process and understanding of my life and my own choices, here I am in a situation where I’m in a relationship with someone who I’ve been friends with for 10 years. We’ve got a track record of friendship-love to begin with. Then to bring that closer was just really natural and a beautiful thing. It’s the most supportive, healthy relationship I’ve ever been in, so I’m not surprised that my music is reflecting that.”

15. Lena Waithe and Alana Mayo

Lena Waithe and Alana Mayo

Producer, writer, and actress Lena Waithe may be on her way to being a household name, but the other half of this power couple is equally impressive. 31-year-old Alana Mayo is the VP of Production at Paramount and was named one of Hollywood’s Up-and-Coming Execs 35 and Under by The Hollywood Reporter. These two could take over the world together.

16. Tig Notaro and Stephanie Allynne

Tig Notaro and Stephanie Allynne

Comedian Tig Notaro and wife Stephanie Allynne quietly tied the knot in October. Notaro joked on Twitter: “I’m getting married today. My only fear is that instead of ‘I do’ I’ll say ‘I do do’.”

Netflix’s documentary, Tig, showcases their relationship, including Allynne supporting Notaro through her battle with breast cancer.

17. Rachel Maddow & Susan Mikula

Rachel Maddow & Susan Mikula

MSNBC Superstar Rachel Maddow and artist Susan Mikula have been together since 1999, when Maddow was hired to do yard work on Mikula’s Berkshires property. They now live together in a pre-Civil War farmhouse in western Massachusetts. Livin’ the dream much?

18. Amber Laign and Robin Roberts

Amber Laign and Robin Roberts

Amber Laign and Robin Roberts met while on a blind date. Robin Roberts came out publicly in 2013 over Facebook, and announced that she had been in a relationship with Laign since 2005.

19. Jenna Wolfe & Stephanie Gosk

Wolfe and Gosk (both NBC News correspondents) are some kind of NBC super couple. We’re not sure how they first met, but we’re guessing it was at some kind of super posh Olympics coverage party. We do know that they have two daughters, and are both pretty much rocking this power couple game.

20. Cynthia Nixon & Christine Marinoni

Cynthia Nixon & Christine Marinoni

Since finishing her run on Sex and the City, Cynthia Nixon has stuck to acting in short form pieces of fried gold like Alpha House and Hannibal, while her wife, Christine Marinoni, has been working as a special adviser for community partnerships in the Department of Education in New York. If a politician marrying a hot actress isn’t the definition of a power couple, then what is?

21. Sara Gilbert and Linda Perry

The Talk co-host Sara Gilbert and award-winning songwriter Linda Perry married in 2014 and still seem to be in their honeymoon phase – we dare you to find one photo in which they aren’t both smiling. However, 2015 was a big year for the couple. Gilbert gave birth to the couple’s son, Rhodes Emilio Gilbert Perry, back in February, and the duo released the children’s album Deer Sounds that features Rhodes.

22. Sarah Paulson & Holland Taylor

In December 2015, reports revealed that American Horror Story star Sarah Paulson was in a committed relationship with Two and a Half Men actress Holland Taylor. Before then, Taylor, who is 32 years older than Paulson, had admitted to being in a serious relationship with a woman, although she wouldn’t say who it was.

11 Famous Lesbians Who Inspire Us Every Day

Sometimes, when faced with the difficult task of coming out, we rely on the stories of other women who have found success even after being identified as lesbians.

It can be reassuring to know that we’re in good company, and we truly are.

There are many women in Hollywood and in history who have had success despite the oppositions they faced for loving other women.

Read on to find some of our top choices for influential lesbian role models.

Ellen DeGeneres, comedian

gty_ellen_degeneres_portia_de_rossi_mt_141017_16x9_992

Of course Ellen DeGeneres would make our list. She’s often considered the collective “mother” to the lesbian community, and for good reason – she was one of the first big Hollywood names to openly come out as a lesbian.

Although many of Ellen’s fans are in the gay community, she doesn’t market herself “exclusively” to lesbians, and in fact she sees a strong following of gay, straight, and bisexual fans. She actually publicly said that she “never wanted to be a spokesperson for the gay community” – which is in part why she is so admired.

She didn’t come out in hopes of being a role model – it just happened.

Jane Addams, social worker

Jane Addams, social worker

You might not have heard of Jane Addams before, but she’s one of the pioneers of social work. She was born in 1860 and she found the Hull House in Chicago. Although the word “lesbian” wasn’t actually coined until 1890 and she wouldn’t have chosen to refer to herself as a lesbian, an analysis of her life would show that she would have fit the description by today’s standards.

Jane had a tough background that helped to make her relatable to others, and helped to define her interest in doing good. After all, those with the harshest pasts are often the ones who seek to make the brightest futures for others.

Jamie Babbitt, director

Jamie Babbitt, director

Jamie Babbitt is one of the lesser visible lesbians in Hollywood. She is a director who has been out for the entirety of her career, and she doesn’t shy away from making “typically” lesbian films. In fact, she’s the director of one of my personal favorites – But I’m a Cheerleader!

She likes to have mainly-women crews on her movies, and one in particular (Itty Bitty Titty Committee) had an entirely female crew. Her feminist and lesbian-positive outlooks make her a prime role model of what a lesbian can achieve.

Alison Bechdel, writer

Alison Bechdel, writer

As a writer myself, I find it fascinating to discover other famous lesbian writers. Alison Bechdel chronicles the life of lesbians in her comic strip, “Dykes to Watch Out For”, as well as her graphic memoir, “Fun Home”. She explores some deep issues through her comics and she helps to inspire those with similar experiences.

Gladys Bentley, blues singer

Gladys Bentley, blues singer

Gladys Bentley was a pioneer in lesbian visibility before it was cool. In the 1920s, she rose to fame by rewriting popular songs with dirty lyrics, and openly flirted with women in her audiences. At that time in American history, it was enough to be a butch lesbian – never mind the fact that she was a lesbian of color who had a very public relationship with a white woman.

Later in life, she claimed to have “cured” her lesbianism by taking female hormones and married a man. The man denied it, and the science behind her claims of “going straight” just isn’t there. Still, for a large portion of her life, she represented a willingness to be completely true to yourself and to put love first.

Michelle Bonilla, actress

Michelle Bonilla, actress

Michelle Bonilla certainly isn’t one of the “big names” in American television, but she has had some pretty big roles. You might recognize her from her roles in E.R., Star Trek: Enterprise, or even Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. She admits that being out wasn’t even a conscious decision for her – it just sort of happened.

I was posed a question, are you gay? And why was I going to lie?”

It’s always reassuring to hear of people who don’t worry about “coming out”, but rather just being themselves. In a perfect world, everyone would just be free to be who they are.

Sara Gilbert, actress

Okay, I admit – Sara Gilbert made this list because I have a giant crush on her. I think I always have, actually, ever since her early days as Darlene on Roseanne (1988-1997). Of course, back then she was just “a tomboy” – but she has since come out as a lesbian. She supports a great deal of causes, including many animal rights organizations, and she is a vegetarian.

Barbara Gittings, activist

Barbara Gittings, activist

There aren’t too many people that have become famous based on their activism, but in some ways Barbara Gittings could be compared to the Martin Luther King, Jr. of gay rights. In the 1950s and ‘60s, she was a huge supporter of anti-discrimination legislation that would have put an end to workplace discrimination for homosexuals. She also helped to found her local chapter of the Daughters of Bilitis (a lesbian social organization). She was a proud lesbian woman who felt that homosexuals should be judged for reasons beyond their sexuality. It’s a bit sad that we’re still fighting that battle 50 years later, but Barbara helped pave the way.

Gertrude Stein, writer

Gertrude Stein, writer

Gertrude Stein wasn’t exactly out of the closet while she was alive, but letters published after her death indicated that she had a lifelong relationship with Alice B. Toklas, which she referred to as a marriage. She was a well-received writer who even mentored some of the “greats”, like Sherwood Anderson and Ernest Hemingway. She continued writing and teaching until her death in 1946. In 1967, Alice was buried next to her – a testament to lifelong love. (Aww!)

Ellen Page, actress

ellen-page-436

When Ellen Page came out as a lesbian in 2014, there were many of us in the lesbian community who really weren’t all that shocked. But the fact that, in 2014, she still felt the need to come out publicly says a lot about the invisibility that we still face every day.

Her brave “coming out” speech was inspirational for many teenagers and young adults, and it paved the way for even more in Hollywood to come out. (Plus, if you haven’t heard her coming out speech, it’s pretty incredible.)

Sally Ride, astronaut

Sally Ride, astronaut

For any girl who grew up desiring to go to space, Sally Ride made that a real possibility. She was the first American woman in space, and she paved the way for many girls to grow up loving the sciences. Her life partner, Tam O’Shaughnessy, accepted the Presidential Medal of Freedom on her behalf after her death in 2012.

It was not widely known that she was a lesbian before her death, but her family said she made no attempts to hide her relationship with Tam amongst her private circle.

Ellen DeGeneres To Oprah: “I Didn’t Ever Think I Was Going To Come Out”

Oprah’s Master Class returned this Sunday, with Ellen DeGeneres sharing what she’s learned on her path to becoming a beloved daytime talk show host.

ellen-master-class-02

In 1997, Ellen became an unintentional activist when she announced she was gay around the same time that her television character came out on the show.

This decision, Ellen admits, was one she never thought she’d make. Talking to Oprah Winfrey, the comedian said she feared that coming out would end her career.

I certainly didn’t ever that I was going to come out. Period. And I didn’t think I’d be coming out on a show, ever.”

DeGeneres said she changed her mind after a friend gave her a ‘hippie retreat’ at the Esalen Institute called Changing the Inner Dialogue as a gift.

I wanted to know what the inner dialogue of my subconscious mind was, and it was scary and crazy. What came out of listening to what I had been saying to myself is. “Would I still be famous? Would they still love me if they knew I was gay?” And my fear was, “No, they wouldn’t.”

But DeGeneres said she felt shame that she was hiding her sexuality.

I just didn’t want to pretend to be somebody else anymore so that people would like.”

Double The Ellen: Ellen Page Stops By The Ellen Show To Talk Freeheld, Falling In Love, And Surfing

Ellen Page stopped by The Ellen Show last week to chat with Ellen DeGeneres about Freeheld, falling in love, and surfing.

Small World: Turns Out Tig Notaro Was A Bartender At Ellen DeGeneres Ex Girlfriend’s Party 18 Years Ago (Video)

So here’s a thing, it turns out Tig Notaro was a bartender at Ellen DeGeneres’s girlfriend’s party 18 years ago. Small world.

Notaro is on Ellen’s show today, and in it she starts off her interview with an apology for not being hip to her earlier on, because she totally would have supported her from the very beginning.

Then they talk about having met through Ellen’s ex-girlfriend (Ellen doesn’t remember) and how they now text all the time (Ellen and Tig, not the ex). It’s all so lesbian and I love it.

Ellen For President?! Watch Ellen DeGeneres Gate Crashes the GOP Debate With Style

Somehow we missed this one, but Ellen DeGeneres was actually in the GOP debate that took place on Fox News in August.

In a taped skit that aired at the top of the show, DeGeneres imagines an alternate reality where she landed a spot on stage the Republican presidential debate thinking it was a game show taping for celebrity “Family Feud.” DeGeneres then serenades Jeb Bush with a banjo, steals wads of cash from Donald Trump’s wallet to “make it rain” and tries to make the men onstage come to terms with marriage equality in all 50 states.

“I am for it! Anyone else?” DeGeneres, photoshopped into the FOX News debate, asks the GOP candidates. “The times are a changing – I mean, have you seen my wife?”

Forget The Seven-Year-Itch, Ellen DeGeneres And Portia De Rossi Are As Happy As Ever.

Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres has dismissed rumours that she is to divorce her wife Portia de Rossi, saying:

There’s not one ounce of truth to any of it.”

Ellen-and-Stern-02

Speaking on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM radio show, DeGeneres said:

We really don’t almost break up, we don’t fight, we’re madly in love, and I guess it’s boring. It’s so ridiculous to me,’ she continued. ‘There’s not one ounce of truth to any of it. I’m very happily married. In fact, the only thing we ever argue about is who loves who more. That is all. It’s really true.”

Explaining that she doesn’t pay attention to showbiz gossip, she said:

We don’t know anything about it until somebody tells us. I don’t read the tabloids, I don’t have a publicist. I don’t know why they do this. We’re kind of flattered because for a while no one cared about us and we thought “Oh, lesbians aren’t worthy of tabloid stories” so now we’re kind of flattered that they care about us.”

Having celebrated their seventh anniversary last month, the grinning pair walked hand-in-hand through New York on Thursday.

DeGeneres and de Rossi first started dating in 2004, and married in August 2008.

Ellen DeGeneres Questions Caitlyn Jenner’s Subdued Support Of Marriage Equality

When Caitlyn Jenner appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show last week, Ellen’s reactions were mixed, especially in response to Jenner’s views on same-sex marriage.

Calling herself a “traditionalist,” Jenner admitted that she used to oppose equal marriage, before publicly coming out as transgender.

Ellen-Caitlyn-02

I think, like a lot of people on this issue, I have really changed my thinking here to, ‘I don’t ever want to stand in front of anybody’s happiness.’ That’s not my job, okay?”

Explaining that she had changed her mind on the issue, she said:

If the word ‘marriage’ is really, really that important to you, I can go with it.”

However, DeGeneres appears to have been taken aback by the answer – telling SiriusXM host Howard Stern that she was baffled.

Ellen-and-Stern-02

She said:

Caitlyn Jenner is on the show today, and she really still has a judgement about gay marriage. I said to her: ‘You’re wanting people to understand and accept you – this is like really confusing to people – but you still have a judgement about gay people and marriage’.

She said ‘if the word marriage is that important’ …and I was like, ‘it is, because that’s the word!’. We want the same thing as everybody.”

DeGeneres also questioned the star’s Republican beliefs – despite Republicans actively opposing trans rights.

She’s a Republican and conservative – and I think a lot of Republicans are wishing she wasn’t a Republican.”

The entertainer also revealed that Jenner refused to dance with her – which most guests including President Obama have done on her talk show.

She said:

No, she didn’t dance. I don’t think she’s a dancer. Maybe she didn’t want to dance with me cause I’m a lesbian! She was great, it was a great interview. I don’t really know her, and I’m trying to understand it, because I don’t fully understand it either.

I also want everyone to be happy I don’t fully understand all of that, but I want her to be happy. Which is what I want for her, for me.”

Ellen DeGeneres & Gap New Clothing Line for Girls Challenges Gender Stereotypes

Ellen DeGeneres has launched a new collection for Gap Kids that is for every girl no matter…

… whether they skateboard or dance, wear dresses or jeans, build forts or paint rainbows, or everything in between.”

ellen-gap-01

ellen-gapkids-03

Featuring more gender-neutral colours, the line features uplifting slogans like “Be your own hero.”

We focus so much on our differences and that is creating a lot of chaos and negativity and bullying in the world. And I think that if we focus on what we all have in common which is ‘we all just want to be happy’ that would be a lot better.”

The children’s clothing line is a direct descendant of ED by Ellen, a collection of women’s apparel, accessories and decorative home products.

Gap says $250,000 from the sales of GapKids x ED will be donated to Girls Inc., a not-for-profit focused on giving girls confidence.

Later she was joined on stage by a blinged-up Ellen DeGeneres.
