Evan Rachel Wood and Gina Rodriguez star in Miranda July’s Quirky Con Story ‘Kajillionaire’

From acclaimed writer and director Miranda July comes a profoundly moving and wildly original comedy,

The story centres on the struggling Dyne family, headed by Theresa (Debra Winger) and Robert (Richard Jenkins), who have spent 26 years training their only daughter, Old Dolio (Evan Rachel Wood), to swindle, scam, and steal at every opportunity.

Old Dolio, named after a homeless man who won the lottery, is a ticking timebomb of repression, masked by a low monotone and a curtain of hair. Her parents control every facet of Old Dolio’s life, but their situation has already grown unsustainable, with their kooky landlord giving them a week to make rent or else they’re out on the street.

Fortunately, the Dynes have trained Old Dolio well — “she learned to forget before she could read or write,” her father beams — and she quickly proposes a solution: One speedy roundtrip flight to New York and back yields a stolen luggage scheme and travel insurance to get them out of their jam.

But in the midst of their absurd plot, the family’s tight-knit routine gets complicated when Old Dolio’s parents meet the kooky Melanie (Gina Rodriguez) on their flight and decide on a whim to bring her into their clan.

Her mother rations affection as she does money, insisting her daughter “doesn’t know anything about tender feelings”. And so Melanie tenderly takes it upon herself to introduce her new friend to pancakes, dancing, pet names and intimacy. The tremors that Old Dolio grits her teeth through suggest an internal shift is taking place.

Evan Rachel Wood Bids Farewell To Her Twenties In Touching Open Letter

Evan Rachel Wood hit the milestone last week and decided to celebrate becoming a 30-something by looking back at her past in an open letter published by Nylon.

I can finally start looking back on my past with a smile on my face because it’s over and I survived…

I very easily could have been dead in my 20s. I think a lot of people can relate to this. I did not think I would make it this far. So every second is a gift.”

She called her 20s a “time of metamorphosis, loss, love, trauma, and enlightenment”, during which she fell in love, met her heroes, and welcomed her son, while also recalling a rape ordeal, her divorce and a suicide attempt.

My limits have been tested in many ways, and I learned I am much stronger than I ever thought possible. The greatest lesson I have learned is that there is always more to learn.”

The open letter was published a day after a tweet from the birthday girl suggested she was single again after splitting from her bandmate fiance Zach Villa.

According to People, Wood and Villa called off their engagement about a month ago. The couple first met in 2015 at a John Hughes-inspired cabaret in LA, and then combined forces to make the electro-pop duo, Rebel and a basketcase.

Wood was previously married to actor Jamie Bell for two years before they got divorced in 2014.

In Feb. of this year, Wood got real about her sexuality (she’s bisexual) in a moving speech when she was awarded the Human Rights Campaign’s Visibility Award. She said in the speech,

I didn’t realize that there was anything that would have been considered different about me until I was 12 years old – right around when puberty and sexual feelings start to take over – and I felt something that I couldn’t explain. I thought women were beautiful, and I realized I had always thought women were beautiful. But because I was born that way, I never once stopped to think that was strange or anything to fear.”

Although she knew when she was young that she had feelings for women and men, she “buried those feelings” after hearing so much hate speech toward the LGBTQ+ community. She continued,

But because of the voices I listened to, because of the people I identified with, the films I had watched, the music I had heard, because of words like ‘bisexual’ and the doors that it opened, I’m still here — and I didn’t miss out on the most beautiful thing I’ve seen yet, and that was my son.”

Evan Rachel Wood’s ‘A Worthy Companion’ Is Heading To Canada’s TIFF

While HBO junkies know her from Westworld, Evan Rachel Wood began her career in provocative indies such as Catherine Hardwicke’s Thirteen and Julie Taymor’s lush Across the Universe.

Queer audiences have long enjoyed her outspoken sexual fluidity, which is enough to make A Worthy Companion a worthy addition to this list.

Though the description is vague and alluring, this dark feature debut from Montreal-based photographers Carlos and Jason Sanchez tells the story of a troubled 30-year-old woman (Wood) and the unhappy 16-year-old girl she befriends and convinces to run away from home.

She resorts to manipulation and co-dependency to keep her confidante in her clutches.

Also starring celebrated gay actor Denis O’Hare (American Horror Story), A Worthy Companion is full of intrigue.

Evan Rachel Wood Receives ‘Sickening’ Tweets After Criticising Ben Affleck ‘Gay Kiss’ Comments

Earlier this week, Evan Rachel Wood slammed Ben Affleck for reportedly claiming “a man kissing another man is the greatest acting challenge an actor can ever face” after he kissed co-star Jason Lee in Chasing Amy.

Director Kevin Smith recalled the alleged comment during a screening of the 1997 film at Outfest.

According to Gay Star News, Smith told the festival audience that Affleck said, “A man kissing another man is the greatest acting challenge an actor can ever face.”

Smith also recalled that Affleck said, “Now, I’m a serious actor,” after shooting the scene.

Wood took aim at Affleck, tweeting: “Try getting raped in a scene. Also, grow up Ben.”

One Twitter user pointed out that the comment was made two decades ago, to which Wood replied: “I’m sure he thought it was funny, but even jokes like that are damaging.”

She finished: “Also, you think us ladies like kissing all the guys we kiss? Just cause it’s a ‘straight kiss’ doesn’t mean we enjoy it. Ahem.”

Later in the day, she deleted the thread, but her point about “playing gay” being put on a thespian pedestal is still valid. Playing transgender is similarly elevated; cisgender actors such as Jeffrey Tambor, Hilary Swank, and Jared Leto have won Emmys and Oscars for portraying trans people.

https://twitter.com/evanrachelwood/status/887590904126623744

Smith later apologised for telling the “adorable story” about a young actor which he claims was “printed elsewhere without any of the context”.

Speaking in a Facebook Live he said:

Of course, Affleck doesn’t feel that way today and who knows if he even felt that way then? But he could’ve, he was in his 20s. We all say goofy s*** in our f****** 20s but it wasn’t something he went out into the world and talked about. It was something he said to me.

I feel f****** terrible. You know me, I like keeping peace. I’m not the guy that likes to rattle sabers or upset.”

He continued:

It’s my fault. I told a cute story that was printed elsewhere without any of the context, and then tweeted without any of the dates or anything, and then people got upset.”

She said that while friends knew she was bisexual, she lived in constant fear, and was “absolutely terrified” of anyone she worked with finding out.

The fear people went through – me included. Absolute terror. The horror of being found out. And it stayed with me throughout Coronation Street, until I left, because I would have got the sack. It was the attitudes of some people in it. They wouldn’t have worked with you if they knew.”

Evan Rachel Wood Opens Up About Being Bisexual At HRC Gala

Evan Rachel Wood delivered a powerful and heartfelt speech at the 2017 Human Rights Campaign North Carolina Gala, where she was honoured with the HRC Visibility Award.

The actress – who is currently engaged to Zach Villa, her partner in the musical duo Rebel and a Basketcase – opened up about her bisexual identity and the responsibility she feels as an LGBTQ public figure.

I thought women were beautiful. But because I was born that way, I never once stopped to think that was strange or anything to fear.”

Throughout her life, however, Wood admitted she “buried” her feelings as a result of the anti-gay hate speech that surrounded her, confused by her attraction to men.

There was a time, despite what it may have looked like on the surface, that the fear had gripped me so tight, and I felt broken and unlovable. And I did not think I would see tomorrow.”

She also told the audience that she never felt compelled or knew how to speak out about her sexuality until she heard another actress first say the word “bisexual.”

She then realized the power of visibility and the impact that moment had on her own life and identity.

As an actor, my job is to look at a stranger and find myself in them ― to connect the dots, to have such empathy for a character that I can read someone else’s words and be moved to tears.

Turning empathy into vulnerability… and it wasn’t until I saw the effect that it had on other people that I really started to see how powerful really allowing your most vulnerable parts to be seen was. I saw another side to what I did, and it was the power of visibility.”

Wood first came out as bisexual in 2011 in an interview with Esquire magazine, and has since used her platform to speak out for the bisexual community, an identity often erased or rendered invisible on the larger LGBTQ spectrum.

See Wood’s powerful speech below:

Ellen DeGeneres Says Goodbye To Obama And Recruits Hollywood’s Biggest LGBTQ Stars To Pay Tribute Too

To pay a final tribute to the president who helped make her marriage to now-wife Portia de Rossi legal, Ellen DeGeneres dedicated her show to Obama this week with a look back at the time she spent with him and first lady Michelle Obama over the past eight years.

She also enlisted several celebrity friends to help pay tribute too.

Wife Portia, Neil Patrick Harris, Laverne Cox, Jonathan Groff and Evan Rachel Wood are just a few of the LGBTQ stars to thank the former president for his administration’s acknowledgement of the queer community .

You presided over a period of time that turned out to be, in many ways, one of the most positive periods of time ever in the lives of gay Americans,”

Wood, who is bisexual, echoed those sentiments, thanking Obama for.

… changing the way that people thought about us, and honestly, the way I thought about myself.”

Evan Rachel Wood’s Golden Globes Suit Proves Dresses ‘Aren’t a Requirement’

She may not have won a Golden Globe, but Evan Rachel Wood made a big impact in the custom Altuzarra suit she wore to the Golden Globes last night.

Wood – nominated for best actress in a TV series for her work in Westworld – looked incredible in the suit, and also gave a perfect explanation for why she chose it instead of something more traditional.

She told Ryan Seacrest during E! Live From the Red Carpet.

I’ve been to the Globes six times and I’ve worn a dress every time – I love dresses — I’m not trying to protest dresses — but I wanted to make sure that young girls and women knew that they aren’t a requirement, and that you don’t have to wear one if you don’t want to. And to just be yourself, because your worth is more than that.”

Wood went on to explain that her ensemble was also paying homage to great suits of Hollywood past, such as those from Victor/Victoria, actress Marlene Dietrich, and, of course, David Bowie — “because it’s his birthday,” she noted.

Evan Rachel Wood Posts Powerful Letter Online About Past Sexual Assults

Last week, Rolling Stone published a profile Evan Rachel Wood. In the piece, Wood discusses her own personal experience as a survivor of rape.

Alex Morris, the author of the piece, included a quote from an email Wood sent him in which she explained why she told him her story, and why she wants to tell the world.

However the magazine only published a portion of the note, so in the name of transparency, the Westworld actress took to Twitter to share her email in its entirety.

https://twitter.com/evanrachelwood/status/803354562337865728

In her email to Morris, Wood wrote:

I started questioning my reasons for staying vague about my experiences as a girl growing up in America. I think, like a lot of women, I had the urge to not make it a sob story, to not make it about me. ‘I didn’t have to confirm what happened, what mattered is that sh*t happened. Bad. Sh*t. That still affects me to this day.

I think deep down, I also didn’t want to be accused of doing it for attention, or told it wasn’t a big deal, or ‘that’s not really rape’. I will not be ashamed. I will also not project some false idea of being completely over it because ‘I am so strong.’ I don’t believe we live in a time where people can stay silent any longer. I certainly can’t.

Not given the state our world is in with its blatant bigotry and sexism. It should be talked about because it’s swept under the rug as nothing and I will not accept this as ‘normal’. It’s a serious problem. I am still standing. I am alive. I am happy. I am strong. But I am still not ok.”

Well said. She continued:

I think it’s important for people to know that, for survivors to own that, and that the pressure to just get over it already, should be lifted. It will remind people of the damage that has been done and how the trauma of a few minutes can turn into a lifetime of fighting for yourself. It’s not that you can’t get over it, it’s just that you are never the same, or maybe I just haven’t gotten there yet.

So to answer your blunt question bluntly, yes. I have been raped. By a significant other while we were together, and on a separate occasion, by the owner of a bar. The first time I was unsure that if it was done by a partner it was still in fact rape, until too late. Also who would believe me. And the second time, I thought it was my fault and that I should have fought back more, but I was scared. This was many many years ago and I of course know now neither one was my fault and neither one was ok. This was all before I tried to commit suicide and I am sure was one of the many factors. There you have it.”

The letter speaks to many of the reasons why survivors of rape often don’t come forward when they’ve been sexually assaulted, including a fear of being blamed, being accused of making it up, and being told it’s not a big deal.

Evan Rachel Wood Opens Up About Surviving Rape Twice: We Can’t ‘Stay Silent Any Longer’

Evan Rachel Wood has opened up to Rolling Stone in an email that she sent the day after the US Presidential election.

She wrote:

I’ve been raped. By a significant other while we were together. And on a separate occasion, by the owner of a bar …

I don’t believe we live in a time where people can stay silent any longer. Not given the state our world is in with its blatant bigotry and sexism.”

The email comes after the magazine published an interview with her, in which she admits she’d suffered ‘physical, psychological and sexual’ abuse.

Evan, who describes herself as ‘gender fluid’, also spoke about being bisexual.

She added in the email:

It was always talked about like a phase or something stupid, or something you were doing for attention.

You know, bisexuality is worthy of eye rolls. And I didn’t realise how damaging that was until I tried to have healthy relationships as an adult and realised that there was still all this shame and conditioning and stigma around my sexuality that was really affecting the way I related to people.”

Has been extremely open about her sexuality, often speaking about it on social media.

She also shared a video on her YouTube channel last year aiming to “shatter misconceptions about bisexuality.”

Kate Mara and Ellen Page Cast In Lesbian Romantic Drama ‘Mercy’

Ellen Page and Kate Mara have been cast Israeli filmmaker Tali Shalom Ezer new lesbian romance drama Mercy, which is set to start shooting the begin of September in Cincinnati.

1411672323147_wps_3_Tiny_Detectives_with_Kate

Page is set to portray Lucy, the daughter of a man on death row, who falls in love with the title character played by Mara.

The two characters are on opposing sides of the political cause, which tests Lucy’s values.

Page first revealed the then-untitled project last year during a news conference at the Zurich Film Festival, where Freeheld was screening, saying,

I’m focusing mostly on stories that are meaningful to me and stories for women and supporting more gay characters.”

Page starred with Julianne Moore and produced Freeheld and came out during the 2014 production of the drama, which focuses on police officer Laurel Hester’s fight to allow her pension benefits to be transferred to her domestic partner after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Page can be seen in Netflix’s Tallulah and A24’s Into the Forest, which she produced and starred in opposite Evan Rachel Wood.

Evan Rachel Wood Looks To Shatter The Misconceptions About Bisexuality With Her Coming Out Story

Evan Rachel Wood made a name for herself in Thirteen and The Wrestler, and the cult TV shows like True Blood. But recently the openly bisexual actress shared her thoughts on being bisexual and Pride month.

There are so many grey areas in this world, especially when it comes to gender roles, especially when it comes to sexuality.”

In a self published YouTube post, she discusses some alarming statistics regarding bisexuals, particularly the large percentage of people who have contemplated suicide, experienced abusive relationships and/or struggle with depression and addiction.

Wood goes on to describe the negative reaction she faced the first time she kissed a girl as a kid, and the internalized biphobia she also faced throughout her adolescence.

Like a frighteningly large number of bisexual women, she considered suicide while struggling to understand her sexuality.

She describes her struggle with her sexuality frankly and openly. Although she seems much more at ease with herself as an adult, Wood positions herself as a “flare” for the bisexual community — a visible representation, something that bisexuals need.

Ellen Page & Evan Rachel Wood Discuss Their Latest Collaboration ‘Into the Forest’

Ellen Page and Evan Rachel Wood have talked to Monsters and Critics about their new collaboration, Into the Forest.

The apocalyptic movie, which Page produced as well as co-stars in with Wood, is based on Jean Hegland’s novel of the same name.

However, it isn’t your typical end-of-days movie.

Forget the zombie attacks or fire and brimstone, this drama from writer-director Patricia Rozema looks at the psychological side of complete loss.

into-the-forest-01

It’s a story about two sisters who struggle to survive in a remote country house after a continent-wide power outage.

Page recently explained Into the Forest was a metaphor for grief. The way the sisters believe power will be restored, groceries re-stocked and things will go back to normal play into our own fears of change and impermanence — all expectations and attachments we ultimately have no control over.

They’re dealing with just an overall sense of grief, and loss of what they’ve known and what they were about to expect, which I think is just a huge part of what being alive means. Page also touches on the decision she made two years ago to come out as gay as “the best decision I’ve ever made.

into-the-forest

I still get a little emotional talking about. I feel like a different person and I feel so lucky, so fortunate for that because that’s not the case for a lot of people who come out.”

Evan Rachel Wood Condemns Press Coverage Of Amber Heard’s Bisexuality

Evan Rachel Wood has hit out at the press coverage of Amber Heard’s bisexuality, and ridiculous headlines that allege Amber’s “lesbian friends” urged her to leave husband Johnny Depp.

Since the news hit the air waves that Heard had filed for divorce and was granted a temporary restraining order against her estranged husband, a number of news reports have discussed her sexuality in a derogatory manner.

johnny-depp

Especially now papers are trying to link Heard with super-model / actress Cara Delevingne.

Stories are surfacing that Depp became suspicious of Heard’s relationship with the model – with the actor reportedly ‘driven insane’ over worries that his wife had strayed.

Wood – who is also openly bisexual – shared her thoughts Twitter this weekend.

Amber Heard‘s sexuality is only relevant in that bi women are at far greater risk of experiencing intimate partner violence. Bisexuality however is not a reason for violence. It doesn’t mean Heard is somehow immoral or deserving of abuse.”

(Wood has since deleted the tweet.)

Wood is also said to have retweeted a tweet, which read,

What does amber being bisexual and having lesbian friends have to do with anything? F*** the media seriously..”

Heard appeared in court on Friday, with a visible bruise on her face, and alleged that Depp threw a Phone at her face last Saturday and was also violent towards her on several occasions during their 15-month marriage.

Heard wrote in the court documents.

I live in fear that Johnny will return to the residence unannounced to terrorise me, physically and emotionally,”

In court papers responding to Heard’s plea for the restraining order, Depp’s lawyer Laura Wasser claimed,

Amber is attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse. Her current application for a temporary restraining order along with her financial requests appear to be in response to the negative media attention she received earlier this week after filing for divorce.”

The negative media coverage Wasser alludes to is the commentary surrounding the fact Heard chose to file for a divorce just days after Depp’s mother Betty Sue died.

Depp has not released a statement since the news Heard had been granted a restraining order has emerged. But after the news they did not have a prenupt agreement and Heard was choosing to seek spousal support, he said the following.

Given the brevity of this marriage and the most recent and tragic loss of his mother, Johnny will not respond to any of the malicious false stories, gossip, misinformation and lies about his personal life. Hopefully, the dissolution of this short marriage will be resolved quickly.”

Daily Juice: Ruby Rose Responds To Claims She Turns Straight Women Gay, And Sadly The Rock Thinks He Used To Look Like A “Buff Lesbian”

Ruby Rose has dismissed claims she has the power to turning straight women gay, telling Galore magazine.

Galore-14

I’m one of those people who feels that everybody is somewhere on the spectrum. I don’t think it needs to be labeled – love is about the person.

When people say to me that I turned them gay, I just laugh, because that’s not really even a possibility. It sounds like I did something against their will in the middle of the night, as if I crept into their brain and pushed the gay button, then did an evil laugh and left them to fend for themselves—newly gay and alone in the world.

I break it down like this: Did I find Channing Tatum in Magic Mike to be extremely hot? Yes! Could I now turn straight for him without having previously ever had a desire to be with a man? The answer is, nope. Haha.”

However, according to Elite Daily, straight girls can kiss women for fun, as long as they make sure no one gets hurt – hmmmmm

This weekend, at the MTV Music Awards Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson shared an image of himself wearing a black turtleneck, necklace and man-purse.

He joked: “Those were the days of me being a buff lesbian.”

buff-lesbian1_640x345_acf_cropped

This joke soon spiralled over social media, and even comic Seth Rogan tweeted his own image.

News media outlet, Slate was quick to pull Rock up on his comments.

Evan Rachel Wood has spoken to about Marie Claire her favourite scents and bisexuality.

Apparently there is a reason why your pubes are darker than the rest of the hair on your body.

Bryan Adams has joined the chorus of condemnation against anti-LGBTQ legislation by cancelling his concert this week in Mississippi.

Top 11 Lesbians And Bisexual Women In Hollywood Right Now

There has been a huge shift in the dynamics of Hollywood lately. Where once it was quite taboo to come out of the closet, now there are many men and women who are embracing their sexuality and being honest with their fans. It’s nice to see how successful and happy they are.

Read on to find the top 11 (out) lesbians and bisexual women who are active in Hollywood. These women might not represent the rest of us and our “real world problems”, but they have their own set of problems associated with coming out.

11. Amber Heard

Amber Heard 02

Amber Heard is a beautiful young woman from Texas who rose to fame with such movies as Zombieland, Pineapple Express, and The Rum Diary. Contrary to some statements that have been publicized, Amber herself has said that she is not “out” – because she was never “in”. She also adds that she is “totally open” to love, and doesn’t want to be labeled one way or another. She’s just a woman trying to make it in Hollywood, and she doesn’t want people to focus on whether she’s with a man or a woman.

10. Clementine Ford

Clementine Ford 02

Clementine Ford is the daughter of Cybill Shepherd, both in real life as well as in The L Word. Their on-screen chemistry shows just how much the two have in common; they work so well together! But she admitted she hated growing up with a famous mother: “It was horrible. I had friends in high school who wanted to have sex with my mother. I’m not going to blame her for being beautiful – but it’s still gross.” Clementine herself is an out bisexual woman.

9. Anna Paquin

anna-paquin-01

I’ll admit that I’ve had a big fat crush on Anna Paquin since 2000, when she played in X-Men. There was a brief period of time that I fell out of my crush with her, but it was recently reinvigorated with her response to body shamers. She stands up strong for the LGBT+ community and is herself a proud bisexual woman.

8. Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan

One of the most prominent child stars of my generation, Lindsay Lohan has had her fair share of struggles with fame, family, and addiction, but her relationship with the DJ Samantha Ronson gained her a fair share of publicity on its own. She has stated that she is not exclusively a lesbian, but she embraces her bisexuality and doesn’t let the negativity bring her down.

7. Ruby Rose

ruby rose

Ruby Rose has sort of come crashing onto the scene lately after her role as Stella on Orange is the New Black. The truth is, she’s been active for much longer than that, but it took the wide-reaching audience of OITNB to catapult her into the sights of a bunch of women who instantly began questioning whether they were really straight after all. She is an androgynous lesbian who identifies as “gender fluid”, and caused gender fluidity to be much more of a mainstream discussion than it ever was before.

6. Tila Tequila

There are likely to be many people against Tila Tequila being on this list, because she used her bisexuality to fuel the fame that was fleeting after she stopped doing nude photoshoots. However, she has recently come out as not bisexual, but rather a lesbian, and in some ways she is inspirational as a testament of what a woman can accomplish. She owns several businesses, has been featured in a number of TV shows, and even featured in an all-female sex tape. And yes, she’s a lesbian.

5. Kristanna Loken

Kristanna Loken

Kristanna Loken is a model-turned-actress who burst her way into the lesbian limelight with her role on The L Word, playing Shane’s brief love interest, Paige. She has also been in a myriad of other movies and says she loves when people recognize her from her earlier works – but her role in Terminator 3 certainly catapulted her out of “anonymity”. She was quoted as saying “If the person with whom I connect happens to be a female, that’s just the way it is. That’s what makes my wheels turn.” This cements her position as a proud bisexual actress, paving the way for those who may be struggling to come out.

4. Michelle Rodriguez

Michelle Rodriguez 99

Most lesbians and bisexual women see Michelle Rodriguez as one of the hottest women to pine over in Hollywood. She’s been a prominent action star, rising to fame with the Fast & Furious franchise, but she has also starred in such movies as Turbo and Avatar – although she is typically cast as the more handy type. Some sources say that she is a lesbian, but she prefers to keep her options open. “I’ve gone both ways. I do as I please. I am too fucking curious to sit here and not try when I can. Men are intriguing. So are chicks.” Well, Michelle, that’s a solid way to look at it.

3. Evan Rachel Wood

Evan-Rachel-Wood-2

Evan Rachel Wood is another actress that I’ve had a bit of a crush on for a long time. In 2011, she came out as bisexual in one of the simplest ways she could: “I’m for anything. Meet a nice guy, meet a nice girl.” This has proven to be one of the easiest ways to get Hollywood to stay off your back about who you’re seeing, as we’ve seen from many other actresses – and although we have not uncovered any images of Evan with a woman, I’m certain they’re out there somewhere.

2. Chely Wright

Chely Wright

Unless you’re a fan of American country music (or a close follower of celebrities coming out), you likely haven’t heard of Chely Wright. She was a huge name on the country music scene during the 90s, and she was one of the first country singers to come out publicly as being gay.  She has spoken up for the gay community on many occasions, including her coming out speech: “I hear the word tolerance – that some people are trying to teach people to be tolerant of gays. I’m not satisfied with that word. I am gay, and I am not seeking to be ‘tolerated’.” Way to go Chely!

1. Ellen Page

ellen-page-436

Ellen Page has been a celebrity crush of mine since I first saw her in Hard Candy. She’s gorgeous, intelligent, and just a bit awkward, which of course had lesbians all over the world thinking that she was playing for our team, right? Well, she did end up coming out publicly in 2014, although she had been out of the closet to friends and family for much longer. She has been in a number of high-profile roles, where she usually plays a witty, lovable characters.

Evan Rachel Wood Speaks Out On Bisexuality

In an interview with Esquire magazine back in 2011, True Blood star Evan Rachel Wood came out publicly as bisexual and since then has used her position of fame to blow up the negative and harmful discriminatory attitudes facing the bi-community.

Evan-Rachel-Wood-1

Last week, Wood took to Twitter in an active, honest and open conversation, which addressed the battles she’s faced with biphobia and depression.

Her educational, respectful, and enlightening tweets became very personal when she started discussing her own feelings about her place as a bisexual person in the LGBT community.

Inspired by her frank discussion of the topic, Nylon magazine reached out to the star to discuss the topic of bisexuality, bishame and biphobia, in a context that would allow more than 140 character answers.

Explaining that she’d spent years attempting to fit into a box that didn’t fit her, she found accepting her true self has been the key to happiness:

I realized I was happier when I just accepted myself. I stopped feeling like I had to prove my “queerness.” I knew who I was and that was enough. Also just noting that some people view the word queer as offensive. Some embrace it and identify with it. I always liked the word when it wasn’t being used in a derogatory way. So to be clear, I am using it in a non-derogatory sense.

Throughout the interview, Wood gives her interpretations of bisexuality, experimentation and pansexuality, saying that curiosity and forming long term relationships with multiple partners is not the same thing as identifying as bisexual.

Because for some, it is a gateway. Some people go through more of a transition, for whatever reason they feel. But just because you once identified as bisexual and now you identify as gay, doesn’t mean every bisexual is just “afraid to come all the way out.” Your experience is your experience. Period. I have a feminine side and a masculine side. I think I finally found a good marriage between the two. They have made peace with each other. When I am with a man, I am not straight. When I am with a woman, I am not gay. I am always bi. I am always me. I can’t “pick a side” or “shut one down.”

One is not better than the other. They are just different. The only choice I make is the choice to be happy by letting go and just being myself.”

Evan-Rachel-Wood-2

When asked how we can all work to be better allies, Evan shared:

Try not to judge someone before you really know their story. Be good to people who are good to you. And don’t let bad experiences with certain people taint your perception of an entire group of people. That’s how extreme points of view take over and bigotry is born.”

Definitely take the time to check out the whole interview right here. Once again, Evan Rachel Wood has really knocked some effective education out of the park.

Evan Rachel Wood Has An Important Message About Her Bisexuality: ‘We Do Exist’

Since coming out as bisexual in 2011, Evan Rachel Wood has been admirably outspoken about her sexuality.

In honor of Bisexual Awareness Week, which begins Sept. 20, she is shedding insight on the struggles faced within that community.

The actress took to Twitter to explain that, whether she is with a man or a woman, she is still bisexual.

Wildfang-campaign-08

Evan told a Twitter user.

Actually I am divorced with a son and no matter who I am with I am #stillbisexual.

I can assure you that whatever “straight privilege” I sometimes get accused of having, gets erased by #biphobia.

Remember, bisexuality doesn’t mean halfway between gay or straight. It is its own identity.”

Wood has been open about her bisexuality, and spit up with Jamie Bell last year after 19 months of marriage. She was previously engaged to Marilyn Manson.

She went on:

I think in some cases people don’t want to be labelled because they are ashamed to be bisexual. And this needs to stop. I have battled with myself most of my life because I wasn’t gay or straight enough. I used to think I would never be happy. #biphobia

I had to go through the same panic and shame and depression a lot of people in the LGBT community go through – but when I came out a new found shame took over. Bi-shame. Feeling like people are judging you all over again but for different reasons.”

The True Blood actress previously revealed that she “cried so hard” when she came out as bisexual to her mother.

Ellen Page Discusses ‘Freeheld’ and ‘Into the Forest’ with Julianne Moore and Evan Rachel Wood

It was a busy weekend for Ellen Page at the Toronto International Film Festival, but its been fantastic week too.

Ellen Page and Evan Rachel Wood Take Their New Film ‘Into the Forest’ to Toronto Festival

Their new movie premiers at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival

A brief description states:

In a not-too-distant future, sisters Nell and Eva find themselves shuttered in their home. Surrounded by nothing but miles of dense forest, the sisters must fend for themselves using the supplies and food reserves they have before turning to the forest to discover what it will provide. They are faced with a world where rumour is the only guide, trust is a scarce commodity, gas is king and loneliness is excruciating. And yet somehow miraculously, love still grows.”

We’ve no idea when will get to see this one in the cinemas, but all we can say is ‘Ellen keep them coming’ – 🙂

Ruby Rose: “It Did My Head in for Years to be Described as a ‘Lesbian Model’ (and) ‘a Lesbian Actress’.”

There is more to Ruby Rose than her ‘Celesbian’ Status.

Talking to Net-a-porter.com’s digital magazine The Edit, Ruby Rose – who set to shine in season 3 of Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black – slammed the title she’s often given — “celesbian’’.

God, I hate that word. It did my head in for years to be described as a ‘lesbian model’ (and) ‘a lesbian actress’ but if they do that for the rest of my career, and it means the next generation doesn’t have to have their sexuality listed as part of their job description, then I’m happy with that.”

However, her newfound fame in the US means she has met and often mingles with various Hollywood types, which is has provided her comfort in a world where some gay people still live in fear.

(The group) is so supportive. When I grew up I thought I was the only person like me in the whole world and I would never have a support system

Now it’s like every lesbian I ever looked up to is my best friend.”

Her new posse includes fiancée Phoebe Dahl, actress Evan Rachel Wood and actress Ellen Page.

Angel Haze: Rapper

Out-100-05

The rap artist Angel Haze, who identifies as pansexual and eschews gender pronouns in her music, exhibits an insatiable thirst for authenticity and a take-no-prisoners attitude, making her rapid-fire rhymes all the more compelling.

Ariel Schrag: Writer, Illustrator
