Yara Greyjoy And Ellaria Sand: Will ‘Game Of Thrones’ Kill With A Kiss Again?

A trailer for Game of Thrones Season 7 teases a lesbian kiss – and it could seriously upset the power balance of the show.

The latest trailer for the fantasy series dropped this week, and it has left us absolutely wanting more.

Jon Snow is announcing that the great war is here, Cersei is ready to murder literally anyone, and Dany’s dragons are ready to GO.

However – blink-and-you’ll-miss-it – at 1:22, the trailer teased a kiss between Yara Greyjoy and Ellaria Sand!

Yara Greyjoy, who was revealed to be a lesbian last season, was most recently seen in Mereen, agreeing to an alliance with everyone’s favourite mother of dragons, Daenerys Targaryen.

Greyjoy pledged the Iron Fleet to form part of Daenerys’ massive invasion force, giving a boost to her bid to claim the Iron Throne.

We had speculated that the show might embrace Daenerys’ bisexuality, which featured heavily in the books, by connecting her to Yara.

However, the clip suggests she has her sights set on a different ruler – Ellaria Sand.

While we know Ellaria is a crafty one (the last woman she kissed ended up dead, RIP Myrcella), we’re not getting the feeling that this is a trick.

The trailer apparently confirms that Dorne has joined the invasion, and the two women could be one hell of a couple, bringing two of the seven kingdoms with them.

You can see the moment in the trailer below. Game of Thrones returns on July 16.

Which Game of Thrones Characters Are the Queerest? – The Official List

Game of Thrones will be returning this spring. That’s right, it’s almost time for your favorite dragons, incestuous couples and complicated storylines to return with a vengeance for the penultimate season!

How will you prepare yourself? You could read the books. You could rewatch all six seasons. You could write even more Yara/Dany fanfiction (we know you’ve already started several).

Or you could remind yourself of all of your favorite queer characters, with help from GeeksOut.

Gender Non Con-forming Characters

Brienne

Brienne rejects all of your feminine stereotypes. No, she will not grow her hair out. No, she will not act like a lady. Yes, she will cut off your head if you disrespect Jaime Lannister.

Arya

Is Arya really gender non-conforming or is she just a tomboy? It’s hard to tell. But, since she did spend an entire season pretending to be a boy, we’ve got to admit that she was never one to care about gender.

Asexual Characters

Asexuality is hard to define because many of the men in Game of Thrones have been castrated. (Seriously, the castration rate is alarmingly high. Someone in Westeros should probably do something about that.)

If these characters hadn’t been castrated, would they experience sexual desire? Do they still feel sexual desire regardless of their lack of genitalia? What about the men who were castrated later in life – have they completely lost the ability to have sexual desire, or just the ability to act on that desire?

Theon

Late to the castration game, Theon can’t consummate his desires even if he still has them. Very jealous that his sister Yara gets more girls than he does.

Varys

Castrated as a child, Varys does not trouble himself with things as silly as sex. He’s too busy pulling the puppet strings of the entire kingdom.

Greyworm

Greyworm can still fall in love, so if anything, he’s asexual but heteroromantic. He and Missandei would win the award for cutest couple hands-down.

Jon Snow

Okay, Jon Snow isn’t technically asexual, but he seems like he could be gray-asexual. He’s only ever slept with someone once, and he did not seem particularly interested in sex before, after or even during losing his virginity.

Queer Men

Remy and Loras

Remy and Loras should be together forever, in life, in death, and in lists.

Oberyn

If bisexuals had a mascot, Oberyn would be it. Openly sexually fluid – and with a delicious accent – Oberyn proves that labels don’t always matter. Hotness does.

Queer Women

Finally, the category we’ve all been waiting for: the ladies of Westeros that make us lick our lips.

Daenerys

When Yara hits on her, Dany seems very interested. Enough said.

Yara

Yara is the bro-iest bro to ever bro, and not just because she rescued her bro Theon. Who can forget the time she checked out Dany with a smirk? Or the time she started having sex with a female prostitute?

Sansa

Not yet. But it could be coming.

Who do you think should be added to the list?

Game Of Thrones’ Gemma Whelan On Yara’s Sexuality, & Her Promising Relationship With Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys

In the recently concluded season 6 of Game of Thrones, we learned that Yara is “up for anything” when it comes to romance.

However, the actress who plays the character doesn’t think that the Ironborn is bisexual.

Talking to Vulture, Gemma Whelan explained

I don’t think she’s bisexual. There’s a new saying going around, ‘pansexual,’ which means if she’s up for it … I think she says, ‘I’m up for anything.’ That’s her ethos. I don’t think she swings any way in particular, other than the way she feels at the time. She’s just open-minded, which fits the character perfectly.”

Yara’s open-mindedness was highlighted in her scene with Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) in the season’s penultimate episode, where the Ironborn – along with her brother Theon (Alfie Allen) – told the Mother of Dragons what they wanted from her and what their uncle Euron (Pilou Asbæk) wanted from her, too.

Euron is aiming for Daenerys hand in marriage for his help in taking the Seven Kingdoms, but his ultimate plan is to kill her right after she successfully ascends the Iron Throne.

When asked if she would like Yara and Daenerys’ relationship to turn romantic, Whelan told added.

Emilia and I both enjoy the idea. [Laughs.] We get along very well, so we enjoy working with each other quite a lot. So maybe! I don’t know! It’s up to the writers and the machinations of their minds. We like each other, we reflect each other, and whether it’s more than friendship is irrelevant, really.”

Are ‘Game of Thrones’ Story Makers Plotting The Shows First Major Lesbian Storyline?

Game of Thrones (major spoilers ahead) has featured a number of gay characters in the past, but these have been mainly male relationships with doomed romances.

However, the show recently re-introduced Yara Greyjoy (Gemma Whelan), who holds a claim to the throne of the Iron Islands.

Greyjoy was quick to establish her interest in women in a passionate scene earlier this month.

Since it’s my last night ashore for a long while, I’m gonna go f**k the tits off this one.”

However, fans are hopeful that a big romance could be on the cards for Greyjoy, after the character’s sizzling introduction to Mother of Dragons Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).

In the scene, the two prospective Queens flirt as they form an alliance, while discussing a rather vulgar marriage proposal from Greyjoy’s uncle.

Daenerys quips: “And I imagine your offer is free of any marriage demands?”

Yara shoots back: “I never demand… but I’m up for anything, really”.

A major romance between the pair seems unlikely given how Daenerys’ whole narrative has been about her being entirely independent, but the prospect of the romance is not too far-fetched given elements of the original novels.

In the books, Daenerys Targaryen is explicitly portrayed as bisexual, having intimate flings with her handmaidens as well as male romances.

Reacting to the latest episode, Whelan had this to say

There’s mild flirtation, which is exciting to say the least. I mean, get rid of Daario bring on the ladies.”

‘Game Of Thrones’ Throws In A Surprise Queer Storyline

Spoilers for Game of Thrones season six episode seven below

In latest episode of Game of Thrones on Sunday, we learned that Yara Greyjoy likes having sex with women.

And after the Greyjoys moved their Iron Fleet to Volantis to stock up on supplies, we saw the group indulging in an abundance of women and ale, including Yara herself.

Before hitting the high seas, she proclaims:

Since it’s my last night ashore for a long while, I’m gonna go f**k the tits off this one.”

What is so great about this episode is the fact the show doesn’t present Yara sexual preference as some big, shocking reveal — in fact, it goes unacknowledged – which is very refreshing

Her sexuality is treated as blithely as, say, Oberyn Martell’s, who was bisexual, and it marks a very welcome departure from the franchise canon, in case you were wondering whether this detail is part of the character’s story all along.

Actress Gemma Whelan, who plays Yara, told HBO that she didn’t previously know her character wasn’t straight.

I had no idea! I reckon she’s any way. I don’t think she’d limit herself to one or another. Anything goes. Get the job done with whatever if fun and interesting.”

got604_081415_hs_dsc_21841

However, George R.R. Martin may think otherwise. When asked whether Yara (named Asha in the books) was gay, he responded on his blog,

I have a number of lesbian and bisexual women in the novels (and a couple who experiment), but Asha [Yara] is not one of them. Unless I am forgetting something…”

Oh, well… we didn’t mind the creative alteration for the TV show.

Meanwhile, GOT star Sophie Turner wants Sansa Stark to ‘swing both ways’.

In the Game of Thrones universe, I think she’s going to have to swing the other way – because the men thing isn’t working for her.”

Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner Thinks Sansa Should Try Women In The Show (And We Do Too)

Sansa Stark hasn’t exactly had the best love life.

First she was engaged to brutal Prince Joffrey before his ascension to the throne, then forced into a loveless marriage with Tyrion Lannister. More recently, she shared a kiss with the manipulative Lord Petyr Baelish who then almost immediately married her off to Ramsay Bolton, arguably the biggest psychopath on “Thrones” to date.

So who does actress Sophie Turner think her character should end up with now?

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Turner had this to say.

In the GoT universe, I think she’s going to have to swing the other way – because the men thing isn’t working for her. Judging by Sansa’s relationship with Margaery … probably Margaery.”

The ladies did get along pretty well back in season three while they were both living in King’s Landing — maybe love was in the air.

But the current queen shouldn’t be the only female conquest on Sansa’s radar, Turner said, adding her kid sister to the list of potential love interests.

giphy-5

Or [Sansa could hook up with] Arya — because I’d like to see that happen. I’d love a love scene between Arya and Sansa.”

Don’t worry though, incest is apparently totally fine in “Game of Thrones” anyway.

The Game of Thrones Anarchist, Maisie Williams Leads a New Army of British Creatives In Dazed magazine

Who are the best and boldest new talents in the UK today? On the eve of the next general election, Dazed magazine is championing the young creatives setting their own cultural agenda.

Leading the pack is Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams, who is taking a stand for young people – in her uniquely brilliant and outspoken way.

As she turns 18 just in time to vote, the young anarchist talks sexual taboos, feminism, and which box she’ll be checking come May 7.

People think we’re f***ing stupid and we don’t know anything about anything. You have no idea what it’s like to be 17 years old.”

She went on to describe the difficulty of being patronised and, refreshingly, likes to use the limelight to speak out on behalf of young people and the issues they face.

Whether I like it or not, I’ve become influential to people. I don’t wanna be liked just because I’m pretty. That’s f**king boring, and I’m not that. Lots of young people in the industry try to play it cool, but it just makes them look like arrogant d***heads. I’d much rather be liked because people realise that I’m standing up for myself.”

Inside the magazine, the actress dons a hessian robe with the hood resting on her fresh, make-up free face and holds a single flower in her hands. The photos were taken by Ben Toms and Dazed fashion director Robbie Spencer for our explosive, ten-page cover story.

Maisie-Williams-01

Williams knows where she stands in the world of celebrity culture, and being a person many youngsters look up to, and has made her more responsible of her public persona.

And thankfully she hasn’t gone down the route of teen celebs – wearing too much make-up and not enough clothes – to increase her fame.

Season 5 of Game Of Thrones Is Coming And There is Hint of Lesbian Romance In The Air

Season 5 is coming, and the Game Of Thrones crew have shared a new teaser.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rwzkq-Mm1Ao

Though the teasers is cryptic, we have heard a few things about the upcoming season.

Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and her right hand maid Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel) are set to get even ‘closer’ in season 5, and certain fan theories have hinted at a possible sexual attraction between the two.

game-thrones-02

Missandei has been a mainstay on the show since Season 3 when she was introduced as an enslaved translator, Daenery then sets free. Through the last two seasons, Missandei’s importance has increased as her role as one of Daenerys’ confidantes has grown.

Season 4 also introduced some sexual tension between the character and the soldier Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson), and Missandei and Daenerys spoke candidly about it with each other.

Whether or not Daenerys starts a lesbian romance with Missandei, remains to be seen, but fans can definitely expect several new twists which are not quite in line with the books.

What else to expect from Season 5?

Tomboy favourite, Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), is also set for big changes. If the show flows George RR Martin’s storyline, Arya will soon join famous assassin’s group the Faceless Men in foreign city Braavos, meaning her kill count is set to increase.

game-thrones-03

Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow, has hinted that he will have a major storyline in the upcoming Season. If that’s indeed the case, fans of the actor can rest easy considering that killing off major characters is a speciality of this show. The last season ended with Snow assuming a more central role after the epic Battle of Castle Black. It remains to be seen how things now unfold for this (one of the few) remaining member of the Stark house.

game-thrones-04

There is also a batch of new characters and new land – the Kingdom of Dorne – being introduced, This includes the Sand Snakes, who are the daughters of Oberyn Martell. They’re sure to stir up trouble in Westeros in the wake of their dad’s death. The eldest of the Sand Snakes, Obara, will be portrayed by New Zealand actress Keisha Castle-Hughes.

Game of Thrones will return in April.

‘Game of Thrones’ actor comes out – ‘The Gay Community is My Community’

Kristian Nairn, who plays Hodor on Game of Thrones, came out of the closet publicly in an interview at Winter is Coming.

Nairn was asked about his big following in the gay community, specifically the Bear community.

Well, in all honesty, when you talk about “the gay community,” you are talking about MY community, haha. I AM aware of it yeah, and I think it’s really lovely. There’s not a day that I don’t get a few messages, but 99% or more are super sweet and nothing smutty at all! Again, it’s a privilege, and I really mean that. I’ve never hidden my sexuality from anyone, my whole life in fact, and I’ve been waiting for someone to ask about it in an interview, cos it’s not something you just blurt out. I’ve tried to lead the questions a few times, to no avail!
