Le Tigre Return With New Pro-Clinton Anthem “I’m With Her” (Video)

Today, Le Tigre – trio of Kathleen Hanna, Johanna Fateman, and JD Samson – have shared their first new piece of music in a decade

As its title implies, the new song I’m With Her is a pro-Hillary Clinton anthem, and its video was made by director Laura Parnes and producer Tanya Selvaratnam for Filmmakers for Hillary, “a coalition of creatives committed to electing Hillary Clinton as President of the United States,” whose “mission is to organize creativity and inspiration into persuasion and mobilization.”

The video features footage of Le Tigre,  Clinton and her supporters, and kitty cats.

Where Have All The Lesbian Bars Gone? (Video)

San Francisco, New York, Washington DC, and New Orleans are four of the biggest gay party meccas in America, yet the cities’ lesbian bars keep shutting down.

It’s not a situation unique to the US. In towns and cities across the world, lesbian spaces are disappearing at an alarming rate, despite the growing acceptance of non-heterosexual identities.

Why are lesbian bars dying while gay male clubs continue to thrive? Is it because of rising rent prices, the stereotype of lesbians moving in after the first date, the rise of the trans rights movement, or something more complex?

In a new documentary for new Vice channel Broadly, Le Tigre and Men star JD Samson travelled across the US to speak to those who’ve watched the evolution of lesbian culture first hand to find out what’s behind the trend and what, if anything, can be done to stop it.

The Last Lesbian Bars is a brilliant film featuring in depth interviews and archive material that really goes beyond the usual stereotyped explanations of U-Hauling lesbians to really get to the bottom of how the spaces we inhabit have changed, just as we have, in the last 60 years.

Kathleen Hanna on Women Who Make America

Kathleen Hanna is a New York City-based artist, musician, feminist activist, and punk zine writer. She is best known for her groundbreaking performances as a member of the feminist 90′s punk band, Bikini Kill, and her more recent multimedia group, Le Tigre.

Hanna recently spoke to MAKERS. MAKERS is a digital and video storytelling platform that aims to be the largest and most dynamic collection of women’s stories ever assembled. Through original interviews, MAKERS brings together well-known figures such as Hillary Clinton, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Oprah Winfrey, with the trailblazers that need to be known such as Christy Haubegger, the founder of Latina Magazine and Kathrine Switzer, the first women to run the Boston Marathon.

On another note, at the begin of August Hanna entered into a social dialog with Miley Cyrus. It all began when Miley paid respect to Hanna on Instagram – she posted two photos of the Bikini Kill singer accompanied by the captions “girls rule” and coolest ever”. Clearly enamoured with the posts, Hanna responded not only to thank Cyrus, but to suggest that they make a record together.

Last year year, Cyrus described herself as “one of the biggest feminists in the world because I tell women to not be scared of anything”. Hanna backed Cyrus’s feminist credentials in an interview with Tiny Mix Tapes, saying:

“I’m glad the word ‘feminist’ is being talked about and that influential pop stars are bringing up this conversation. If she says she’s a feminist, then who I am to stop her? I’m not the feminist police.”
