Eva Green And Gemma Arterton Cast In Virginia Woolf Lesbian Romance

Screen International have confirmed that Eva Green and Gemma Arterton have been cast in the lead roles of Vita & Virginia, film about the romantic relationship between Bloomsbury Group novelist Virginia Woolf and writer-gardener Vita Sackville-West.

The love between these two women, and their mutual admiration for each other’s work, went on to inspire Woolf to write Orlando; which documents the adventures of a poet who lives for several centuries, changing sex from man to woman.

Sackville-West’s son Nigel Nicolson later wrote:

The effect of Vita on Virginia is all contained in Orlando, the longest and most charming love letter in literature.”

The film’s director by Chanya Button, commented

The prospect of collaborating with Dame Eileen Atkins, Eva Green and Gemma Arterton in bringing the mercurial passion that Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West shared to life is beyond a privilege. We so often associate women of the past with oppression, bound by the duties of marriage, propriety and domesticity; but what Vita & Virginia offers is an example of a relationship where bold, brilliant women bent these institutions to their will at great personal cost.

Focusing on the time in 1927-8 during which Woolf wrote Orlando, the novel their relationship inspired, Vita & Virginia will be a visceral love story, a vivid exploration of creativity, and an energised perspective on one of our most iconic writers”.

Cartoon Network UK Censors ‘Steven Universe’ To Make It Less ‘Gay’

Steven Universe is the story of a boy that helps protect the universe with his gem powers alongside his three female sister/mother role models and superheroes Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl.

The show – which has already won praise for including a number of strong, female characters in a comparatively male-dominated genre – confirmed last year that characters Ruby and Sapphire are a lesbian couple, who are so in love they can’t bare to separate. The two female-presenting also combine to create the super-powered kickass warrior Garnet.

The show is now playing in the UK, but cartoon is being censored, which has angered many fans.

The show has been edited to alter a scene that previously showed the two female-presenting characters dancing together. The UK broadcast replaced this intimate moment with frames of a male character’s face.

Sadly, Cartoon Network UK is taking much-needed role models away from vulnerable kids,’ a petition reads, which has already been signed by over 2,000 people so far.

Steven Universe is a beloved series acclaimed for its ground-breaking portrayal of queer characters. I’ve heard many young people say it changed their lives. In the UK and Europe, CN UK have censored a romantic dance between two female characters, Pearl and Rose Quartz. Queer youngsters treasure and cling to this moment. The same episode (“We Need to Talk”) has plenty of hetero dancing and kissing, so it looks like they’re censoring this because it’s two women.”

Ruby and Sapphire not the only characters, with a queer feel. There is also on there are Pearl’s (seemingly non-platonic feelings) for Rose, Amethyst and Peridot’s crushes on each other and the fact that Steven and his best friend Connie joined together (fused) to become ‘Stevonnie’, a character of colour who uses ‘they’ pronouns.

When Cartoon Network in France did something similar, there was also outrage. The channel listened and let the original broadcast go out in future airings.

Cartoon Network UK has yet to respond to the petition.

Cartoon Network Execs Confirms Lesbian Romance on Show

A Cartoon Network show has become the first on its network to confirm two of its lead characters are in a lesbian couple.

Steven Universe is the story of a boy that helps protect the universe with his gem powers alongside his three female sister/mother role models and superheroes Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl.

The show, which has already won praise for including a number of strong, female characters in a comparatively male-dominated genre, has now hinted at further diversity.

Characters Ruby and Sapphire – who are shown to be incredibly close on the show – sparked curiosity among some of the show’s adult fans.

Responding to a fan’s questions on Twitter, the show’s former co-executive producer Ian Jones-Quarterly said…

When asked whether it is fair to interpret the pair as “nonbinary femme presenting lesbians”, he responded: “by human standards & terminology that would be a fair assessment!”

5 Ways to Electrify Your Sex Life

We can all use some fresh ideas to spice up our love lives. So, here are 5 approaches I found useful

Surprise a lover with a new experience

New experiences energise us. Sharing them increases intimacy, making hot sex more likely. So rent an erotic film, plan a trip somewhere romantic, or organise a couples massage.

Use role-play to engage your imagination.

People find it invigorating to become someone else for a moment, to act in ways they normally wouldn’t. It can be exciting to do things that you may have only dreamed about.  Role-playing can give you the freedom and the permission to act out in ways that are out of character.

Plan a trip to a sex-related entertainment destination

Visit a burlesque club, see a stripe club show, or visit a fetish club. Go with an open mind and make sure you stay long enough to make that initial uncomfortable anxiety disappear.

Read an erotic story

Find a new book that is written about sexual experiences you have not yet experienced. When you have done so, write out a fantasy or two of your own.

Spending time examining the experiences of others can give us saucy new ideas. Some of the things we read will bore us, others might make us cringe, but usually there will be something that captures the imagination and gets our own creative juices flowing.

Note: When writing, remember that you are doing this for yourself, so don’t spend too much time obsessing about how well you are writing, how good your grammar is or if your spelling is diabolical. You can worry about all of this if you decide you are going to share what you write with others.

Visit a sexy lingerie shop or a sex shop

Push yourself out of your comfort zone and actually ask the sales staff about the toys you have never even considered looking at in the past. Looking online is not the same, as you cannot interact with others directly and actually see and touch the toys (and learn how to use them). If you are too embarrassed to go on your own, consider going with your lover or a really close friend.

Finally, enjoy yourself

Take the time to make the most of all aspects of your life. You deserve to have an electrifying sex life, and you can create one with some courage, imagination and persistence.

Season 5 of Game Of Thrones Is Coming And There is Hint of Lesbian Romance In The Air

Season 5 is coming, and the Game Of Thrones crew have shared a new teaser.

Though the teasers is cryptic, we have heard a few things about the upcoming season.

Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and her right hand maid Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel) are set to get even ‘closer’ in season 5, and certain fan theories have hinted at a possible sexual attraction between the two.

Missandei has been a mainstay on the show since Season 3 when she was introduced as an enslaved translator, Daenery then sets free. Through the last two seasons, Missandei’s importance has increased as her role as one of Daenerys’ confidantes has grown.

Season 4 also introduced some sexual tension between the character and the soldier Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson), and Missandei and Daenerys spoke candidly about it with each other.

Whether or not Daenerys starts a lesbian romance with Missandei, remains to be seen, but fans can definitely expect several new twists which are not quite in line with the books.

What else to expect from Season 5?

Tomboy favourite, Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), is also set for big changes. If the show flows George RR Martin’s storyline, Arya will soon join famous assassin’s group the Faceless Men in foreign city Braavos, meaning her kill count is set to increase.

Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow, has hinted that he will have a major storyline in the upcoming Season. If that’s indeed the case, fans of the actor can rest easy considering that killing off major characters is a speciality of this show. The last season ended with Snow assuming a more central role after the epic Battle of Castle Black. It remains to be seen how things now unfold for this (one of the few) remaining member of the Stark house.

There is also a batch of new characters and new land – the Kingdom of Dorne – being introduced, This includes the Sand Snakes, who are the daughters of Oberyn Martell. They’re sure to stir up trouble in Westeros in the wake of their dad’s death. The eldest of the Sand Snakes, Obara, will be portrayed by New Zealand actress Keisha Castle-Hughes.

Game of Thrones will return in April.

A Lesbian Version of Romeo & Juliet Worth Watching

West Philadelphia’s Curio Theater began its 2013-14 season with William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Since the season was oriented on issues of gender, many of the roles in the play were switched from men to women. Juliet’s only parent was her mother, Lady Montague. Tybalt was a very different kind of character and the play was re-written to be about a lesbian romance between Juliet and a woman named Romeo.

When the play opened it caused controversy.  Many people objected to the production’s gay content. They objected to the play being staged in a Methodist church. Some of them objected to doing Shakespeare in modern dress. And there were threats of violence made against Curio Theatre.

A lot of people did not want you to see this play, but a lot more people supported the production. They felt the play was very important, and that the approach spoke to them. People who couldn’t come to Philadelphia to see the play wrote to Philadelphia’s Curio Theater about tours, so video director Brian Siano decided that the play needed to be preserved and shared with a wider audience.

There us now a Kickstarter page in place to fund a DVD version of Curio Theatre’s Romeo and Juliet. Their first goal is to pay for the post-production work, like editing, sound mixing, and manufacturing the DVDs. They then want to get the DVDs out to supporters by mid-May of 2014.

Support creating a DVD of Curio Theatre’s controversial lesbian-themed production of Shakespeare’s  Romeo and Juliet.
