Leading the way, for the fourth year running, is Stonewall, which has spent 25 years fighting for the rights of all lesbian, gay and bisexual people. From helping to win equalisation of the age of consent to repealing Section 28, from securing equal access to fertility treatment and guiding marriage equality legislation through Parliament to supporting LGB people internationally, Stonewall has a proud record of engaging and winning for full equality.

“Stonewall is immensely proud to continue to support UK Black Pride as main sponsor for the fourth year running. We know how important it is for people to be able to come together as a community and celebrate who they are. While we’ve achieved so much together over the last decades there is still so much to do. That is why events like UK Black Pride are vital to show that we are a visible and vibrant community who will continue to fight for true equality here, at home, and around the world.”

Ruth Hunt, Acting Chief Executive of Stonewall

“The TUC and its unions have long championed equality for LGBT people and played a big part in all the reforms won over recent decades. We’ve supported UK Black Pride from the beginning because we understand how crucial it is that the voices of all sections of a very diverse community are heard. The struggle for full LGBT equality is a long way from over, even in Britain, while it has hardly begun in many parts of the world. Together, we will continue to work to achieve it.”

Frances O’Grady

Their gift will ensure that we can put on a sequence of events in London and Manchester over the summer. Our focus remains on the needs of Black LGBT people, as well as celebrating our communities’ many achievements. UK Black Pride is an inclusive event for all; we invite everyone to love without borders!”

Children Of Gay Parents Speak Out in Powerful Video

“Do you think your family is unusual?” the interviewer asks the kids. “No” is the reply…

The message in this powerful video is simple: A loving family is a loving family no matter its colour or shape, and children with gay parents simply don’t care if they have two mums or two dads (or something in between).

In this video, filmed last year during the Imagine Children’s Festival at London’s South Bank Centre, interviewers ask a group of children about their hopes, dreams and family life. The results are heartwarming.

Parents are Parents. Family is Family. Love is Love.

In interview after interview, the children make it clear how blissfully typical their home life is. With gay and lesbian parents increasingly becoming the new normal, it’s a little incredible that some people continue to argue that sexual orientation has any bearing on one’s ability to be a good parent.

Without ever coming out and saying so, this video is the perfect rebuttal for anyone who argues that gay parents are somehow worse for children than straight ones.

Hundreds hit the streets of Brighton for Stonewall 25th anniversary celebration

Over 700 Stonewall supporters hit the streets of Brighton for the charity’s eleventh annual Equality Walk on Sunday. The annual fundraiser – supported by American Express and Square Peg Media – was part of Stonewall’s 25th anniversary celebrations and raised over £55,000 to tackle homophobic language in Britain’s schools.

Radio 1Xtra DJ Adele Roberts and Great British Bake Off’s John Whaite hosted this year’s walk which included live entertainment and a picnic in the Royal Pavilion Gardens for the hundreds of families and fundraising teams. MPs Caroline Lucas and Simon Kirby, and the Mayor of Brighton & Hove Denise Cobb, also attended the 10k walk. After the walk Adele and John handed out prizes to the top fundraising team – PwC who took the title for the third year running – and the best individual fundraiser, Kate Harris, who raised over £1,400 and won a weekend in Paris courtesy of American Express.

‘I can’t think of a more fantastic way for so many people to help celebrate our 25th anniversary. It was inspiring to be joined by individuals, teams and families whose hard work means we’ve raised a remarkable £55,000 to help tackle homophobic language in Britain’s schools.’

Catherine Bosworth, Stonewall’s Director of Fundraising

Research conducted by Stonewall shows that 99 per cent of young people regularly hear phrases like ‘that’s so gay’ or ‘you’re so gay’ in school. These insults can have a devastating impact on lesbian, gay and bisexual young people’s self-esteem and confidence. Stonewall’s campaign, Gay: Let’s Get the Meaning Straight, is helping schools and young people tackle this abuse and put a stop to homophobic language.
