Yogurt Company Join Pride Brigade With New TV Advert Featuring Lesbian Couple

Latest TV spot from Chobani features a lesbian couple. The company’s advert – To Love This Life is to Live Naturally – highlights a social issue that aligns with the yogurt company’s core foundations of equality and acceptance.

Peter McGuinness, chief marketing and brand officer of Chobani, said

We’ve been an inclusive brand from the beginning and equal rights has been fundamental and foundational for this brand. The founding mission of Chobani was better food for more people. Good food shouldn’t be a privilege, it should be a right, and we want to make it available to all.”

The $15 million “Love This Life” campaign, comes from Opermann Weiss and focuses on telling the modern American story by emphasizing the role Chobani plays within people’s lives.

Being different, through advertising and product, is one reason Mr. McGuinness thinks the brand is flourishing.

As the leader of the category it’s our role and responsibility to grow the category and inspire the category and be different. We don’t want to do taste-offs and comparison ads, we don’t want to take the typical approach.”

Seth Adam, the director-communications for GLAAD, thinks that showcasing LGBT acceptance is becoming increasingly important for brands.

More and more companies are beginning to realize that supporting equality doesn’t stop at having inclusive workplace polices. Supporting equality also means being inclusive in your advertising and marketing and your outreach to your community and customers. I think that’s what you’re seeing here is Chobani taking that next step and saying ‘We support acceptance and equality and this is what that looks like.'”

The “Love This Life” campaign will run through September, and includes a print and social media campaign as well as new product labels.

Freedom to Marry Launches National TV Ad – #ItsTime

Freedom to Marry is the campaign to win marriage nationwide in the United States.

“We are pursuing our Roadmap to Victory by working to win the freedom to marry in more states, grow the national majority for marriage, and end federal marriage discrimination. We partner with individuals and organizations across the country to end the exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage and the protections, responsibilities, and commitment that marriage brings.”

Freedom to Marry

Riding a remarkable wave of 40 rulings across the country affirming marriage for gay couples, Freedom to Marry released “It’s Time,” a national TV ad highlighting the tangible harms to same-sex couples still discriminated against in many states. The Supreme Court officially begins its new term Monday, with marriage cases from Utah, Oklahoma, Virginia, Indiana, and Wisconsin under consideration.

“The ad underscores the human costs of prolonging marriage discrimination,” said Evan Wolfson, president of Freedom to Marry. “Every day of denial is a day of real and needless injury, indignity, and injustice for too many families across the country — and time matters. America is ready for the freedom to marry, 40 lower court rulings have affirmed the freedom to marry, even opponents are saying it’s time to bring the country to national resolution — and it is, indeed, time.”

The thirty-second ad aired on Sunday morning’s network news shows in the Washington, D.C. market and on cable news this week.

Daring New US TV Ad Takes On Homophobia

Two pro-LGBT rights organisations have produced a 30-second TV ad that will seek to change public attitudes to same-sex marriage in the US state of Oklahoma. Freedom Oklahoma and Freedom to Marry intend the ad to be part of their new public initiative to take on intolerance across the United States.

The broadcast focuses on the Oklahoma-based Cuyler family, whose patriarch is retired soldier Colonel Ed Cuyler who served 22 years in the US Army, during which time he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Purple Heart medals for bravery. He has been married to his wife for almost 40 years.

In the ad, Colonel Cuyler discusses the meaning and value of his marriage and why it is important to stay loyal and respectful to his wife. He is addressing his daughter Deedra, who is a lesbian, and her partner Amber. The couple are bringing up three infant children.

‘Here in Oklahoma, we value family. When Deedra told me she was gay, as her dad, I was worried because I wanted to protect her. When Deedra met Amber, I realized she could have a family. Only marriage means the ability to take care of your family.’

Colonel Cuyler

While the TV spot is expected to give a spiritual boost to gay and lesbian people in Oklahoma, it will surely be controversial amongst more reactionary Oklahomans. At the same time, its broadcast is extremely timely, given that only six months ago a federal judge overturned the ban on gay marriage that had existed in Oklahoma for decades. LGBTs in Oklahoma and all over the world are waiting in hot anticipation for the final ruling in this case.
