Stop Everything – Is This The L Word Reunion We’ve Been Waiting For?

No quiet, but close enough.

Former The L Word co-stars and on-screen lovers – Sarah Shahi (who played Carmen) and Kate Moennig (Shane) – were reunited on the set of Ray Donovan in today’s Post of the Day.

Sarah is guest starring Ray Donovan. She’ll be playing Hasmig, an Armenian pop star. Much to any fan of The L Word’s delight, she will play opposite of Kate—who plays Lena, Donovan’s assistant.

The third season of Ray Donovan premieres on July 12. We can’t wait to see Kate and Sarah back on the small screen together again.

Yes, Dana Scully is Back! Gillian Anderson Reveals Red Hair for X-Files Reboot

Prepare to get excited Scully fans – Gillian Anderson has revealed a familiar looking hairstyle on her Twitter account.

The actress teased her social media followers by posting a photo of her new red hair colour, associated with the character Dana Scully.

Covering her face with her phone, Anderson captioned the photo with an alien emoji and a lipstick kiss.

It’s only a mere three months since The X-Files revival was officially confirmed, and now the cast and crew have gathered in Vancouver to begin shooting the new series.

Anderson recently said that it will be “really weird” to return to the cult series, but that she’s looking forward to it.

Getting back to the character I’m fine with. It’ll be fun, it’ll be all of us back together again but older and wiser. I know we will make the most of it and it’ll be really weird. It’ll probably be more fun and more exhausting at the same time. I’m psyched and I’m still in denial.”

Creator Chris Carter will be back at the helm for the six new episodes, joined by returning stars David Duchovny (as Mulder) and Gillian Anderson who has already reverted from her preferred blonde to Scully’s famous red hair colour…

The young mechanic succumbed to her injuries, after she was knocked unconscious in the explosion on the street last week.

Coronation Street producer Stuart Blackburn recently revealed Maddie’s death would spark a “coming of age” storyline for her girlfriend Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent).

It’s a coming of age story for Sophie. She is going to cope, she’s going to deal with it, she’ll look after the funeral and she’ll sort it her way. Obviously it’s agony for her, but I think it’s time that Kevin and Sally started seeing her as a young woman rather than a girl. That’s partly what the story is about.”

Amy Kelly who plays Maddie, announced early this year she wanted to quit the show. In a statement released, the actress said she’d decided to leave after just 18 months in the role because she wanted to try something new.

I’m young and adventurous and I want to gain more experience explore and improve my craft. Acting is my passion and I’m excited to see where it takes me.”

Amy made her first appearance as runway Maddie during 2013’s Christmas episode, when Sophie and her mother Sally volunteered at a homeless shelter.

Coronation Street continues at tonight at 7.30pm on ITV.

TV World Gets Another Diverse Lesbian Character as Raven-Symone Guest Stars in ‘Black-ish’

Black-ish is about an family man Dre (Anthony Anderson) who is struggling to gain a sense of cultural identity while raising his kids in a predominantly white, upper-middle-class neighbourhood. In the show Raven Symoné plays Dre’s gay sister Rhonda.

black-ish

In the latest episode Symoné’s character returned to the show so could finally come out to the family – although Rhonda keeping her orientation a secret, it’s more of an open secret – a ‘don’t’ ask, don’t tell’ type of situation.

When she’s around, the whole family mutually agrees not to talk about sex and relationships, even though that’s gotten more difficult over the years. Now, Rhonda’s in a serious relationship, so it’s hard to continue hiding things

The actress explained in an interview with ETOnline

From her brother’s wife it’s of acceptance, and from her brother it’s kind of a weird revelation of ‘I knew it, but we don’t talk about it’ type of thing. From her mother it’s a reaction that I’m sure a lot of people in the LGBT community get from an older generation. It’s interesting to see how it plays out in the episode, and it will hopefully help others accept themselves and be able to teach acceptance to another generation.”

Symoné has also had a stint in the fantastic Empire, which is set for a second season.

I hope that my character comes back and has more of a relationship with Cookie, and has the ability to kind of fight for her position in Empire’s company being that her daughter is an heir, and maybe give some of that money.”

Not only this, Symoné is also returning to her Disney Channel roots by teaming up with Zendaya on K.C. Undercover.

She is has also been appearing as a guest panelist on The View, something she enjoys:

I love those ladies, I love talking about current topics, I love getting dressed up again every day and having fun with those women. I think they are very smart, they’re very respectful of each other, and everyone respects each other’s opinions and lets us get it out. There’s so many more guests that we get to interview over the next couple of weeks and I’ll be on for that. It’s a wonderful, wonderful experience to be having at this age and to be able to express myself now. A lot of people are used to me being quiet, or very very politically correct, or young and only doing comedy, and to really be able to have a conversation between these ladies is great. Working with Whoopi Goldberg is heaven, Nicolle Wallacehas been like my new best friend, and Rosie Perez really keeps me on my toes, so I’m enjoying myself.”

Leisha Hailey is Back (Briefly) on Our Screens!!

As Supernatural heads towards its season 10 finale, and we get given an extra special treat. L-word famed Leisha Hailey appears in the show, playing Claire Novak’s mom, Amelia.

Its been over ten years since lesbian drama The L Word first smashed on to our TV screens. An instant hit with gay and bi women around the world, it revolutionised the portrayal of LGBT women on TV and paved the way for more popular shows with gay/bi girls as major characters.

In Supernatural the episode Hailey is in focuses on character Claire Novak, who is back in town after she gets a lead on her long-lost mother, Amelia (Hailey).

Feeling the guilt for what he had done to Claire’s family, Castiel would want to make amends and the only thing to do it is by getting the mother and daughter reunite with each other.

He will do so by asking the Winchester brothers, Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki) for some help.

Unfortunately, the summary noted, the group will discover some truth as to what took Amelia. They soon realize that there is a chance that Claire may not get the happy ending she looks for.

S

A report from Carter Matt pointed out that this Castiel-centric episode could be a breather for the rigorous Mark of Cain storyline.

According to the publication:

Ultimately, the timing seems right for there to be a Castiel episode … Also, we hope that it can be one that gives Castiel even more great stuff to do. While he has some pretty interesting stuff going on right now trying to manage the guilt that he feels from his past, it took a little while this season for his story to really start to rocket off of the ground.”

Lily Tomlin on the Long Road to Being Public About her Sexuality

Lily Tomlin has often quietly spoken about her sexuality – and married her long-term partner Jane Wagner on New Year’s Eve 2013, but its only now she is starting openly discuss her sexuality in interviews.

Lily Tomlin

Speaking to HuffPo Live, she opened up her life in the transparent closet – joking that “everyone” already knew she was a lesbian.

I was on Carson one night [in 1971], and he [asked if I wanted kids], and I said no… the audience was deathly still. That was a hot subject to bring up to a straight audience. I wasn’t totally forthcoming. Everybody in the business knew I was gay, and certainly everybody I worked with and everything like that.

I just never had a press conference to announce it. In 1975, [TIME magazine] wanted to put me on the cover just for being gay! I was making my third album at the time.”

However, Tomlin did not agree to do the cover – and kept her sexuality off-the-record until years later.

I wonder if I had come out on that ’75 cover on TIME, if I would have had as long a career as I’ve had. It would have been an inopportune time to make such a grand statement. I mean, Ellen [DeGeneres] didn’t really come out until 20 years later. It’s been a long life… I’ve been really lucky.”

Tomlin is currently working with Jane Fonda on the comedy series Grace and Frankie, which is a comedy drama called Grace and Frankie, which follows long-time rivals Grace and Frankie, who are brought together after their husbands announce they are in love with each other and plan to get married. The 13-part Netflix series, is set to air from May 8.

WNBA Stars and Fiancees, Brittney Griner and Glory Johnson Arrested for Assault

News stations have been going crazy reporting that WNBA stars and fiancees, Brittney Griner and Glory Johnson, were arrested for assault and disorderly conduct.

The Associated Press writes that Griner and Johnson were both arrested on Wednesday after a domestic violence situation at their house in Goodyear, 20 miles west of Phoenix.

Griner told police that she and Johnson had been arguing every day and got into each other’s faces Wednesday afternoon in the home they had bought two days earlier after Johnson said Griner “disrespected” her, according to a police report.

Brittney and Glory

Johnson told police Griner had gotten too close, so she pushed her back to get some separation and began talking to her sister, Judy Johnson, when she was pushed in the back of the head by Griner. Glory Johnson turned around and the physical altercation began, with both fighting on the floor for 4 to 6 minutes. The entire episode lasted about 20 minutes, according to the report.

Griner had a laceration on her right wrist and a tooth mark on the middle finger of her right hand after it ended up in Johnson’s mouth, according to the police report.

Johnson, who plays for the Tulsa Shock, had a cut on her lip and Julio Trejo, a friend of Griner’s, had a cut on his neck after trying to break up the fight. All three declined medical attention.

Griner also said she broke a dog bowl after throwing it against a wall during the argument.

Griner told police the fight was caused be weeks of stress, including buying a house, planning a wedding and their relationship.

The pair announced their engagement late last summer and expected to get married next month.

Griner and Johnson were released from the 4th Avenue Jail in downtown Phoenix at 4 a.m. on Thursday.

The only statements that have been made at this time are from their team representatives. Phoenix Mercury Executive Vice President and General Manager Jim Pitman released this statement today:

The Mercury organization is aware of an alleged incident involving Brittney Griner. We are in the process of gathering additional information, and will have no further comment at this time.”

Glory plays for the Tulsa Shock, and the team’s president Steve Swetoha expressed a similar sentiment:

We are aware of the reports out of Phoenix regarding our player Glory Johnson. We are in the process of gathering information at this time. Of course our first concern is for Glory’s well-being and health. We are looking into the matter further and have no other comment to make at this time.”

Brittney and Glory became engaged last year and are set to marry next month. They recently appeared on an episode of Say Yes to the Dress Atlanta with Glory’s family helping her find her bridal gown.

Mad Men Introduces Bisexual Photographer ‘Pima Ryan’

Set in the 1960s and the 1970s, Mad Men is a period drama that covers the personal and working lives of the employees of Sterling Cooper, an advertising agency in New York City. Across seven seasons the show has received plenty of accolades (including 15 Emmys and four Golden Globes) for its costume design, the stellar acting from its cast (which includes Jon Hamm and January Jones), its directing and its historical authenticity with the show often tackling the social issues of the times.

What Mad Men hasn’t been praised for, however, is its LGBT representation. During its seven seasons on our televisions there have only been two lesbian characters: Joyce Ramsay was a photographer for Life magazine who licked Peggy’s face and told her that “He doesn’t own your vagina” when Peggy turned her down because she had a boyfriend and there was also Carol who fell in love with Joan (something which she confessed to her) when the two women were roommates in season one.

It was quite a surprise then, when a recent episode of the show introduced another queer lady; a bisexual photographer named Pima Ryan. Pima, in all of her pantsuited glory, waltzes onto the scene after Peggy is accused of “digging deep” for her because she wants a woman on her ad campaign. Like a scene right out of our dreams, Pima starts flirting with Peggy straight away and even compliments her on being in charge of the shoot.

Mad Men Pima Ryan 04

After their exchange, Pima ends up having sex with Stan, one of Peggy’s coworkers. Not that it’s particularly romantic as Stan has a girlfriend named Elaine (Pima and Stan were actually waiting for photos of Elaine to develop when they decided to hook up) and he also seems to be intimidated by Pima, so it’s more of a power struggle situation.

Peggy, meanwhile, is less attracted and intimidated by Pima’s demeanour. Pima asks her if she’d been married and says that she’d love to take her picture and although for a split second it seems like Peggy’s going to go for it…she doesn’t, much to our disappointment. Moreover, Peggy is actually furious at Pima when she finds out about her and Stan.

Is it likely that Pima will return in a future episode and try and charm the pants off of Peggy again? Probably not as this seventh season of Mad Men is also its last and the final episode will air mid-May, so the show’s writers are unlikely to devote much time to a side character that they’ve only just introduced. It was nice to have another queer woman on our screens though, even if it was just for one episode.

Will Piper and Alex Get Back Together in Orange is the New Black Season 3?

Things haven’t been so smooth for Orange is the New Black‘s leading couple, Piper and Alex. First, the two women reunited under terrible circumstances when they both happened to be in the same prison, then they hooked up in a church and were happy for all of two seconds, but then it was revealed that Alex was the reason that Piper ended up in the slammer in the first place.

Oh, and then there was also the thorny issue of Larry who Piper was still engaged to as she was falling for Alex again.

Alex-Piper-01

Roll on season two where Alex asked Piper to lie on the stand and when Piper did, Alex told the truth and ended up being released. Then Piper got revenge and Alex was thrown back into prison again for violating her parole and buying a gun (to protect herself against those she testified against) and it’s really up in the air as to whether or not these once lovebirds will get back together for good.

Also read: It’s out – ‘Orange is the New Black’ Season 3 Trailer is HERE

Over at Bustle, Kadeen Griffiths notes that quite a few things need to happen before #Pipex blesses us with their romance once more. For example, although they trotted the globe together and shacked up in palaces bought with drug money, they are very different people now who need to get to know each other and so they should probably date.

That’s not really conventional since there aren’t many places you can be romantic when guards are watching your every move, but it would be nice to see them on dates.

ruby-rose-oitnb-03

They also need to stop betraying each other since a) it’s not healthy for any relationship and b) it’s just plain mean and neither of them know where they stand.

And finally, they need to talk about the future because it’s not easy to make plans about moving in and getting married and having babies when you’re both doing jail time (Larry and Piper couldn’t even handle that when just one of them was in prison).

Plus, it’s not clear how much time either of them is doing so they need to come to terms with the possibility of being separated.

In Orange is the New Black season three, however, it might not be these things that keep Piper and Alex apart. As we saw in the new OITNB trailer, a new inmate played by Ruby Rose seems to have taken an interest in the two of them.

We already saw Piper and Alex’s mutual friend Nicky get between them (she hooked up with Alex not long after her and Piper split up) so it’s not so far fetched to think that the new character will divert their attention too.

No matter what happens, we’ll still be watching the show at the edge of our seats when Orange is the New Black returns in June.

‘Arrested Development’ Producer Announces Another 17 Episodes

The Bluth family is set to return for another hilarious season, so get your chicken dances at the ready.

In a fairly off-the-cuff remark amid a discussion at SXSW about his current hit show Empire, he said:

“I love Arrested Development, but it was never a huge thing. But people are loyal to it, and we’re going to do another 17 episodes. So stay tuned for Arrested Development.”

Fortunately, news that the show would return isn’t completely out of the blue, and follows comments last year from Netflix head Ted Sarandos, who said “It’s just a matter of when”, after being asked if new episodes were incoming, and from series actor Will Arnett, who said “It’s going to happen, we don’t know when but it is going to happen.”

Arrested-Development-01

Starring Arnett alongside Michael Cera, Jason Bateman, Portia de Rossi, Jeffrey Tambor and Tony Hale, Arrested Development ran for three series on Fox between 2003 and 2006, attracting a cult following as well as a string of awards.

Cancelled by the network in 2006, the show was picked up by Netflix for a fourth series in August 2012 with fifteen new episodes launched on the online streaming service in May the following year.

While a Netflix spokesperson declined Redeye’s request for comment, you can watch video of Grazer’s announcement below. His remarks begin at the 24:30 mark.

Late-Blooming Lesbians – Helen Mirren Outs Her Prime Suspect Character

In an interview in Event magazine, Dame Helen Mirren, who will turn 70 this summer, discussed her acclaimed role as Detective Superintendent Jane Tennison in the TV crime series Prime Suspect.

helen-mirren-01

Asked what she imagines the character would be doing now, she replied that Tennison would have ‘gone gay’ in her retirement.

“She’s a lesbian, living with a very attractive partner. Happier than she’s ever been, but still not entirely content. She gave up the drinking the moment she left office and never went back to it. She does yoga. I would imagine she’s still working, either advising or lecturing, I don’t think she can stop – she’s too driven. The police retire quite young so she’s still got a life ahead of her. There are limitless opportunities for Jane.”

Perfect.

The Bold and The Beautiful Introduces Its First Trans Character

If there’s one thing we know about daytime TV shows, it’s that by design they are ridiculous. Storylines are complex in an effort to get us tuning in each and every day. Is so and so’s cousin really the father of their best friend’s ex-girlfriend’s baby? Did that character’s long lost sister really kill her adopted step-brother? In the world of daytime TV those situations are entirely plausible.

Things go similarly complicated last week on the CBS’ daytime show The Bold and the Beautiful when the show introduced its first trans character, Maya.

TheBoldandTheBeautiful-trans-Character-03

The character, Maya Avant is also a woman of colour and in other circumstances, her addition would be fantastic since trans representation is lacking on our TV screen.

The problem is, in Maya’s previous storylines (she’s been in the show since 2013), the character confronted the fate of the daughter that she gave birth to. The fact that it’s now being revealed that Maya was born with male sex organs means that viewers will be forced to forget Maya’s past altogether.

Representation is good and important, but when it doesn’t make sense, it feels as though characters are just being shoe-horned in for the sake of a diversity quota.

Furthermore people also have some issues with the fact that Maya isn’t being played by a trans actress.

TheBoldandTheBeautiful-trans-Character

However, Karla Mosley, the actress who plays Maya, says that she’s been consulting GLAAD on how to get the role right. She also told US mag Us Weekly the following:

“As someone who is an artist and an activist, I know how important trans issues are — how it’s life and death for people at this point. The more that we in Hollywood can help people to understand what it is to be transgender, what that experience might be like for someone, and just to normalize it, I think we have the possibility of really changing some hearts and lives.

I think that that’s probably part of why they came to me with this. In addition to the fact that it really fits Maya’s story in this kind of amazing way that no one could’ve ever predicted, I think that they also knew that I would be totally ready and willing to talk about these things in an open way.”

While it’s hard to agree with Mosley that the trans identity fits Maya’s story, it is good to hear that she knows how important Maya’s portrayal is. The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS so tune in then to see how Maya’s story plays out.

Is Marvel’s ‘A.K.A. Jessica Jones’ About to Bring us a New Lesbian Character?

A.K.A. Jessica Jones is a new Netflix miniseries collaboration with Marvel.

The show is based on Brian Michael Bendis’ critically-acclaimed comic series Alias, which introduced the character (including her previously-unseen super heroic backstory) in 2001.

Jessica Jones was a superhero called Jewel, with great strength and the ability to fly – but after a horrifying incident she hung up her cape for good. Now she works as a private investigator in New York, but struggles to leave the past behind as she becomes involved with super heroic cases.

Much like Agents of SHIELD or Agent Carter, A.K.A. Jessica Jones will take place in the same world as the Marvel movies – so if yet another super villain levels half of New York City in Avengers 3, expect Jessica to be dealing with the aftermath.

Continuing their trend for getting reasonably big sci-fi names, A.K.A Jessica Jones has cast Carrie-Anne Moss (best known as Trinity from The Matrix) in the mysterious role of “Harper”, an authoritative figure and potential ally to Jessica.

However, there could be a little more to Harper we need to know. Pictures are out of Carrie-Anne’s character sharing a passionate kiss with an attractive blonde co-star while shooting for the new show.

We don’t know too much more about the character other than she is a ‘no-nonsense woman who could prove a powerful ally to Jessica… if Jessica doesn’t completely alienate her first.’

Hmmmmm…

Carrie-Anne joins Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, and David Tennant as Purple Man in the upcoming Marvel series.

It’s Official – The X-Files is Returning to Our TV Screens with David Duchovny & Gillian Anderson at the Helm

It’s official – No more government cover-ups or cigarette smoking men – The X-Files is returning to TV – hurrah!

gillian-anderson-xfiles-02

13 years after its original run, The X-Files is coming back, with FOX ordering a six-episode ‘event series’ that will see Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully investigate new supernatural mysteries.

Expected to arrive in 2015, the series will be helmed by original X-Files writer Chris Carter.

“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break. The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

Originally premiering in 1993, The X-Files won 16 Emmys and five Golden Globes, with its creepier episodes (e.g season 4’s ‘Home’ *shudder*) still being talked about to this day.

A return for the show has been mooted for a while and rumours resurfaced earlier this week.

Duchovny previously said he was “f*cking overjoyed” at the idea.

FOX CEOs Gary Newman and Dana Walden said,

“We had the privilege of working with Chris on all nine seasons of The X-Files – one of the most rewarding creative experiences of our careers – and we couldn’t be more excited to explore that incredible world with him again.

The X-Files was not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture – yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning. Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as The X-Files, and we’re ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they’ve been waiting for.

No premiere date has been announced, but production will begin this summer.

Well we were all extremely surprised during the shows final episode with the implication that Korra and Asami were entering into a deeper relationship and even more surprised when the creators actually confirmed our suspicions.

Later show creator Mike Dimartino came forward and confirmed the Korrasami lesbian relationship.

“Our intention with the last scene was to make it as clear as possible that yes, Korra and Asami have romantic feelings for each other,” Dimartino said on his official blog page.

The moment where they enter the spirit portal symbolises their evolution from being friends to being a couple.”

TV Viewers Upset Because Soap Character is Not a Lesbian

Out UK actress Michelle Hardwick, who plays Vanessa Woodfield in the TV soap Emmerdale, has revealed she had angry messages from fans  after her character started dating a man following a lesbian storyline.

In the soap, she shared a short lesbian affair with friend and colleague Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry), before dating current 17-year-old toyboy Kirin Kotecha (Adam Fielding).

Talking to Digital Spy, Hardwick said

“There are certain people on Twitter that were so upset that Vanessa is not a lesbian after the Rhona story. I don’t respond to everyone but what I say is that when Vanessa came into the village, she wasn’t a lesbian.

She was a free spirit who was quite man mad, eyeing up Andy Sugden at the bar. Vanessa fell in love with her best friend who she was helping through a difficult time, and it became more of an obsession. Some people would prefer her to be with a woman, but hey ho – let’s mix it up a bit, that’s what I say!

Hardwick came out in 2013 and proposed to her girlfriend in real life on New Year’s Eve, 2013.

Clarke and Lexa From ‘The 100’ Are Our New Favourite TV Couple

CW’s The 100 answers the hypothetical question of what would humanity do if we were wiped out by a nuclear war. The answer, naturally, is that we’d be forced to live in space on a ship called the Ark and wait until Earth finally became stable’.

Just 97 years into the journey and ‘Council’ has sent a group of 100 young criminals (who’ve been arrested for things as serious as murder or as harsh as being the second born child in your family) down to Earth to see if it’s stable, as oxygen on the ship is running out.

They’ll hit the ground, set up shop and see if it’s safe for everybody else to come down. At least, that’s the plan for smart female lead Clarke Griffin and her rag tag bunch of ‘sky people’.

the-100-bisexual-02

Things don’t go so well though as they’re forced to deal with the menacing Grounders (survivors of the nuclear war who feel that Clarke and co. are trespassing), Reapers (enemies of the Grounders) and the mysterious Mountain Men who are a different, dangerous force altogether.

There’s also acid dust, mutated animals and the risk of radiation. Yet amongst all this they still find time for love.

The show is racially diverse, stars a female lead and each of its characters are well written, and multidimensional (after all, they are loveable criminals), but it has been overwhelmingly heterosexual.

In the first season alone there are about five different male/female hookups or potential love lines which will probably put you to sleep.

Stick with The 100 though as after over a dozen episodes of Clarke’s men-only love life (season one has just 13 episodes), she finds love with Commander Lexa who is the leader of the Grounders, establishing themselves as one of the few lead queer romances that we see on TV.

Their kiss in the show’s most recent episode was beautiful and treated with the utmost respect – just like all of the other heterosexual love pairings we’d seen on the show. And it’s significant not just for queer fans who’ve been crossing their fingers for canon ‘Clexa’ for a while, but because Clarke is now one of the few queer female lead characters on TV.

the-100-bisexual-04

The only other example of a queer female lead (who isn’t just part of an ensemble where everybody is ‘sort of’ the main character e.g Pretty Little Liars) is Lost Girl, but that shows ends soon and so Clarke comes at a time where queer women need representation the most.

It’s also incredibly promising that The 100’s producer Jason Rothenberg wrote on Twitter that “In #The100, they don’t label themselves. If Clarke’s attracted to someone, gender isn’t a factor. Some things improve post-apocalypse. Clarke is a bisexual character. Remember that in this society, no one’s worried about it. They’re worried about spears to the chest.”

So the budding Clexa romance has support from the people who make it and massive support from the fans and we can’t wait to see where The 100 takes their romance next.

South Korean TV Channel Features First lesbian Kiss, But Sadly It Creates Controversy

Popular TV high school drama, Seonam Girls High School Investigators, featured a storyline, which resulted in two students sharing a kiss.

SKTV-lesbian-Kissing-04

The scene aired last week, but since then it has drawn criticism from in the conservative Asian country.

SKTV-lesbian-Kissing-03 SKTV-lesbian-Kissing-01

South Korean’s conservative roots are quickly shifting to include more civil liberties, however, the Korea Communications Standards Commission received complaints after the show aired on TV – and the broadcast regulator has now pledged to investigate whether the moment violated regulations.

The Korea Communications Standards Commission said:

“We will decide whether this is an issue after we look into it, and whether there is any violation of broadcast policy.”

The creators of the show have defended the kiss as “necessary to the plot”. And in recent years, the country’s TV drama industry has tried to include more culturally-sensitive social issues, including gay characters and teenage pregnancy.

There was also a kissing scene earlier this month between two men in the drama, Kill Me, Heal Me.

Same-sex relationships are legal in South Korea, but same-sex unions aren’t recognised in the country. Few public figures are openly gay. Last September, two men were South Korea’s first same-sex couple to get married. Through a legal challenge, the couple, Kim Jho Kwang-Soo and Kim Seung-Hwan, hopes to make their country a leader of marriage equality in Asia.

Attitudes about same-sex conduct have changed South Korea in recent years, according to the Pew Research Center. South Korean views have shifted considerably since 2007, when 77% of respondents polled said same-sex conduct should be rejected and only 18% approved of it. But two years ago, 39% of residents said they accepted gay individuals.

Coronation Street’s Lesbian Storyline Set For Changes As Amy Kelly Quits Show

That’s right; soap star Amy Kelly who plays Maddie Heath in Coronation Street, is bidding goodbye to Weatherfield, and ending the love affair with Sophie Webster.

Amy-Kelly-02

The British soap has announced that Amy, who plays Sophie’s tearaway girlfriend, has quit the show. In a statement released, the actress said she’d decided to leave after just 18 months in the role because she wanted to try something new.

“I’m young and adventurous and I want to gain more experience explore and improve my craft. Acting is my passion and I’m excited to see where it takes me.”

Amy Kelly

Amy made her first appearance as runway Maddie during 2013’s Christmas episode, when Sophie and her mother Sally volunteered at a homeless shelter.

Maddie soon started a relationship with Sophie, who had just split from girlfriend Jenna, and moved in with the Websters.

But it seems their happiness will be short-lived.

The news will have come as a surprise to fans of the soap – especially as Corrie boss Stuart Blackburn previously admitted he wanted to keep her in the show for as long as possible.

“We are currently working on an exit storyline for Maddie which will have repercussions for Sophie and other Weatherfield residents.”

A Sneak Peek at Grey’s Anatomy And A Potential Female Suitor For Callie

Is Grey’s Anatomy Callie getting back in the dating game? In a new episode of Grey’s Anatomy, Callie (played by Sara Ramirez) will encourage colleague Owen (Kevin McKidd) to start dating again.

However, when she tries to set him up with a tech rep (Amy Motta), she is shocked to discover the rep is actually interested in her.

Creator of the hit ABC series Grey’s Anatomy, Shonda Rhimes, set in motion the break-up of long-term lesbian couple, Callie and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) last year.

Greys-Anatomy-02

Back in October, there was a gut punch for fans when the couple decided it was time to end their marriage together.

“When a couple breaks up, I always ask: Where does the love go? It’s not like you don’t still love the person; the love just doesn’t disappear. But you can’t love the person. It’s really great watching them try to figure out how to be friends, how to love each other as friends and co-parents, and how to support each other when the other person needs it without it being weird or without it being too much.”

Shonda Rhimes

The second half of season 11 will see Callie and Arizona learning how to best interact with each other as friends and as parents to their daughter — as well as dating new people.

“We reach a place where there is an exploration of them dating and getting back out there into the world. I didn’t want to rush it. I didn’t want to throw them at other people because I feel the same as with Owen (Kevin McKidd) — you have to be respectful of the relationship they had. We do it slowly and interestingly, and then we’re going to take our little steps. But it’s been really fun to put them out there and find people that they’re intrigued by.”

Shonda Rhimes

While it’s unclear if the out and proud bisexual Callie will date a man or a woman, Rhimes says she and star Ramirez have had a lot of conversations about the discrimination that the bisexual community often faces.

“I’ve read a lot about that concept that bisexuality has not had a lot of support. One of my favorite things that we did in the Callie and Arizona episode is Callie announcing that she’s bisexual, which by the way, I think nobody has ever done that on television, like ‘I’m bisexual,’ which I think is crazy.

I love that she’s determinedly bisexual. She’s not somebody who is straight who discovers she’s a lesbian; she’s bisexual and feels very strongly about that. That’s been interesting for us to navigate — and the character sticks to it. Arizona was always a little dismissive of that. In the early days of their relationship, the fight they always had was, ‘You’re taking a tour through being a lesbian and you’re going to go back to men.’ ”

Shonda Rhimes

While reconciliation doesn’t appear to be in the immediate cards, Rhimes still has high hopes for Callie and Arizona winding up together.

“I’m always rooting for Arizona and Callie to be together. For me, I think they’re the perfect couple, but that’s not to say they’re going to be together. For me, they’re the perfect couple. It would make me very sad if they were apart. That doesn’t mean that they’re going to be able to work out their problems and get it together in time, for when ever the show is going to end. But I hope so. If they can, I think it would be amazing. But until they do, there’s other people to explore.”

Shonda Rhimes

As for Arizona, she’ll be throwing herself into work and focusing on curing Dr. Herman (Geena Davis) in what Rhimes calls a “really powerful, amazing and beautiful story” between the two characters.

“What’s super cool about that is after that huge, momentous occasion, for the next six episodes — which are the only ones I know — we have not focused on Arizona and Callie in their romantic aftermath. We’ve gotten to let the characters be separate but equal, and follow them in the other part of their life — at work — and explore their passions, sense of humor and friendships.”

WNBA Power Couple Brittney Griner And Glory Johnson Feature On TLC’s ‘Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta’

This Friday, WNBA star Brittney Griner and her fiance Glory Johnson are featured on TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta.

Say Yes to the Dress is a TV Show takes place in one of the U.S.’s largest and busiest bridal salons in the southern – Bridals by Lori. Part bridal story, part fashion makeover and part family therapy session, each episode looks at the personalities and craftsmanship that come into play as the shop’s staff, headed by owner Lori Allen and fashion director Monte Durham.

After getting engaged last year, the WNBA power-couple is moving forward with their wedding plans, and that means choosing a dress.

“Dressing Glory was not as I had envisioned. I expected this fabulous athlete who would not really want to look like a traditional bride. I’m thinking maybe a pants suit—boy, was I wrong. Ultimately Glory was very traditional and was only interested in pleasing Brittany—like most other brides. This is why I love bridal—it keeps you on your toes! In the end, Glory looked glorious (no pun intended).”

3 Reasons Why Everyone Should Watch Jane The Virgin

Responsible for such hit television shows as Gossip Girl and 90210, The CW network isn’t usually the go to TV channel when it comes to queer TV programming. In fact, given that the channel had no regular LGBT characters in any of its shows (as of October 1st, 2014), The CW was actually a channel that LGBT folk avoided.

But that could all change with Jane The Virgin.

Based on a Venezuelan telenovela called Juana la Virgen, Jane The Virgin focuses on a woman named Jane who has chosen to save herself for marriage. But that all comes into question when she becomes pregnant via an accidental round of artificial insemination following a routine doctor’s appointment.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgDz0s7xw8A

All of the drama ensues, complete with a tangled web of lies, tales, family members and love interests and it makes Jane The Virgin one of the most unique, original and outright brilliant TV shows to grace our screens. Here are three good reasons why you should watch it.

1. A Diverse Cast

Very often, we find ourselves rolling our eyes at just how white (and usually male) the casts of our favourite television series are. Not so with Jane The Virgin as the majority of the cast are actors of colour.

Jane and the members of her family, along with her best friend and her boss’s sister are Hispanic, while Jane’s fiancée and Jane’s boss’ wife are white, the best friend of Jane’s boss is mixed race and the police partner of Jane’s fiancée is black.

We very rarely get casts this diverse and with Jane The Virgin it never feels like anybody’s a token, merely, these are the characters and it’s just nice to see some more relatable faces. None of the characters are stereotypes either making it a shining example of good representation.

2. Queer Characters

Yes, for many of you the amount of queer characters is a deal-breaker as it rightly should be! No need to worry about Jane The Virgin then as the story kicks off thanks to the lesbian sister of Jane’s boss.

After she walks in on her wife mid-affair, Dr. Luisa Alver drinks and shows up to work dazed and out of it, which is why she fails to realise that she artificially inseminated the wrong woman. While the circumstances are unfortunate, with Luisa we have the plot of the show.

She also gets a love interest a few episodes in, which comes with its own strings and issues (naturally), but Luisa isn’t treated as a side character nor does her drama only focus on her sexuality. Rather, her problems are in the thick of it right with everyone else’s.

3. Brilliant Storylines

If you’re struggling to keep up with the immaculate pregnancy premise then don’t worry. As Jane The Virgin is based on a telenovela it’s meant to have these many branches of stories and lies, that’s what keeps it fun.

Rather than being campy or ridiculously as telenovelas can be, Jane The Virgin’s plots have migrated to network television incredibly well and each week, reveals that you’d usually expect shows to bookmark in a series premiere or finale pepper each episode and keep you addicted.

Lost Girl’s Zoie Palmer Cast in SyFy’s Upcoming Show ‘Dark Matter’

Some months ago, fans were faced with the sad announcement that Lost Girl would be ending after its fifth season air. Following the story of a bisexual succubus in a world of supernatural beasties and bad guys, Lost Girl is one of the few shows on television to feature a queer lead character.

However, when Lost Girl ends we won’t just be losing Bo, we’ll be losing her love interests too. Namely one Doctor Lauren Lewis, the dedicated human at the heart of many a supernatural conflict, who was played by out actress Zoie Palmer.

But as we will soon lose Lost Girl, we won’t have to miss Palmer’s face on our TVs for too long. SyFy has now announced that she’ll be moving to their brand new show, Dark Matter.

According to SyFy’s official info, Dark Matter is about the following:

“A derelict ship floats in space, its troubled crew awakened from stasis with no memories of who they are or how they got on board. Their search for answers triggers the vessel’s deadly security system: a relentless android bent on their destruction. Facing threats at every turn, they have to work together to survive a voyage charged with vengeance, redemption, betrayals, and hidden secrets best left unknown.”

Staring Zoie Palmer, Melissa O’Neil, Marc Bendavid, Anthony Lemke,  Mallari Jr., Jodelle Ferland and Roger Cross, we can likely expect emotions and camaraderie to feature heavily. That’s exactly what so many of us loved from Lost Girl so Dark Matter could be right up our street.

Palmer’s character is called ‘The Android’ and as her moniker suggests, she most definitely isn’t all human. Instead, SyFy describes her character as:

“In personality, she is more butler-like than your typical robot – concise, staid, yet surprisingly possessed of a subtly wry sense of humor, she is an indispensible member of the crew since she can exercise control over all the ship’s systems. And she isn’t shy about reminding everyone of the fact. An outsider among the ship’s human passengers, she is almost child-like in her earnest desire to fit in.”

In many ways The Android could be a bit like Doctor Lewis then – incredibly important, incredibly smart and a bit of an outcast and an outsider. What we won’t yet know is whether The Android will be queer (can robots even have sexualities?) or if any other character will be queer either.

Shooting starts on January 7th with a premiere some time in the summer, so we’ll keep you posted on Dark Matter once we know more.
