Thousands of revellers lined the streets of Manchester to watch this years pride parade, which was led by Orange is the New Black’s Lea DeLaria, who served as Grand Marshal for the event.

This years theme (like many round the world) was ‘love’ – with heart-shaped balloons, ‘cupid’ stilt walkers and wedding themed costumes. Organisations taking part included charities the Lesbian and Gay Foundation, Albert Kennedy Trust, which helps homeless teenagers, teaching union NASUWT and housing association Northwards. Greater Manchester Police also took part with their brass band, and members of both Cheshire and Greater Manchester fire and rescue services also took part.

Other pride celebrations include a screening of the new season of Doctor Who, and performances by Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst, Anastasia, All Saints, Neon Jungle, Foxes, alongside former X Factor contestants Marcus Collins, Lucy Spraggan and Rowetta.
