Traveling as a woman is tricky. Traveling as a queer woman is even trickier.

Whether you’re taking your first trip out of the country, setting off an eighteen-month backpacking adventure or wetting your wanderlust by planning an imaginary dream vacation, these queer female bloggers have the advice you need. They offer tips, stories, photo features, packing lists and guides to traveling on the cheap. These three bloggers are the best of the best!

Dopes on the Road

In 2013, Meg Cale dropped everything to move to South Korea and teach English. She describes herself as “a big ideas thinker, street art lover, and boundaries pusher” who wants to help other LGBT travelers have life-changing adventures.

She is an LGBT advocate and community educator. After finishing her master’s degree and graduate research focusing on LGBT urban youth policy, Meg went on to inform educational programming at three of the largest LGBT nonprofits in the US. Meg’s first nonfiction book, “Slacktivist: Using Digital Media to Create Change” will be released in 2017. Her passion lives at the intersection of travel, queer culture, and new media.

Best feature of her website: Her “Queers You Should Know” section profiles amazing LGBT advocates, artists, athletes and travelers. Worth a read – you might find a new role model!

Globetrotter Girls

In 2010, Dani and her partner Jessica set off on a one-year trip…and never returned. They traveled the world together for four years and, after they separated in 2014, Dani decided to continue running the blog in order to provide an important resource for queer women.

As a couple, they traveled throughout North America, Europe, India, South East Asia, Mexico, Central America and South America. They climbed volcanoes, swam with sharks, went caving deep into sacred Mayan caves, spent time with Buddhist monks, hiked in Patagonia and lived in some of the world’s most exciting cities.

On this website, find everything from guides to traveling around Europe on the cheap to booking a houseboat in Kerala, India. You can also learn from her mistakes by reading about the time she got majorly scammed in Bangkok.

Best feature on her website: Read posts about LGBT-specific travel from Dani and other LGBT bloggers. It’s very helpful to get a wide array of opinions.

Lez Backpack

Melissa Langley is a “world roamer, freelance writer and social media specialist.” She’s also a “woman-supporter” and “traveling, web-savvy self-starter.”

She spent three years traveling around the world and living out of a backpack before finally settling down in Austin, Texas (for now). She writes about everything from lesbian relationship issues to adventure traveling. She also reviews the best (and worst) restaurants, bars and hotels around the world.

Best feature of the website: Her queer travel section is a must-read for lesbians traveling with their partners or hoping to meet new love interests abroad, and the Butch’s Backpack column details an often-overlooked question: How do masculine-of-center women navigate gender norms in other countries?
