Elle Fanning continues her dramatic transformation for transgender role ‘Three Generations’
This new trans film will explore gender identity and family ties. The Malificient actress, plays a New York City teen – Ray – who has decided to transition from female to male. Naomi Watts plays Ray’s single mother, Maggie, who must come to terms with raising her only daughter as a son, and long-time LGBT ally, Susan Sarandon will play Maggie’s mother Dolly – a music manager who lives with her lesbian partner.
Transgender activists have criticized previous trans-themed films and television for casting cisgender actors in transgender roles, such as Jeffery Tambor in ‘Transparent’ and Jared Leto in ‘Dallas Buyers Club’. Three Generations is slightly different in that it will focus on someone in the early stages of transition. Filming will begin in New York this month.
