Ruby Rose Says She Had a Hard Time Making it in Hollywood (Video)

Lets face Ruby Rose is having a blast right now. Women around the world declaring their love for her, hanging out with Justin Bieber, and being heavily praised for her break-out performance in Orange Is the New Black.

But life wasn’t always so easy. Talking to The Today Show, Rose explained that she had a hard time finding an agent and making it in Hollywood.

Ruby Rose is Heading to ‘Dark Matters’

In recent article with InterviewRuby Rose has revealed she has new role in Dark Matter, alongside Zoie Palmer.

The greatest thing about having done Orange are the doors that have opened for me, and people have been able to see me, like the executives and the casting directors, also all of the fantastic directors and writers for independent films. There are definitely a lot of roles playing around that I think would be great for—female protagonists. I did a guest spot on a sci-fi movie [Dark Matter].

On her part she goes on to say…

I got to play with a toy gun and shoot people. That kind of thing has a lot of adrenaline and it’s very different from Orange. It’s really just action and I think that I would like to do that a little bit more—running around and driving fast cars and fighting people. It makes you want to be in an action film.

ruby-rose-Interview-01 ruby-rose-Interview-02

In the same interview, Ruby talks about the Stella and Piper relationship.

They’re very different, but it works. I think that Stella is more of a tomboy; she has a “don’t really care” attitude and is a lot more sure of herself. I think that attraction is based off the tension between Piper’s interior and Stella really wanting to find out that interior for herself, and maybe sees a little bit of a challenge there. Stella might feel that she wants to know Piper, but wasn’t really expecting an attraction or what was Piper’s end game.

The manipulation [Piper] was doing within that time was much more self-serving then something that was going to be a long-term relationship or genuinely caring about Stella. It’s kind of sad. I feel a little bit bad for Stella.

OITNB’s Laura Prepon Gives Possible Season 4 Spoilers About the Fate of Alex Vause

Orange Is The New Black fans – if you’ve not finished watching series three then LOOK AWAY NOW.

OITNB star Laura Prepon has given a bit of a clue about Alex Vause’s fate following the finale of the prison drama’s latest run – although she’s not revealing too much.

Alex Vause 01

Alex’s. Alex was fearful throughout Season 3 that Kubra (Eyas Younis) was going to have her killed after she ratted on him. And she had every reason to be scared! Alex previously witnessed first hand just how cutthroat Kubra could be when she watched one of his employees kill another.

Also read: No Way, Laura Prepon Reveals She Was Almost Piper, Not Alex

While Piper (Taylor Schilling) thought her beau was just being paranoid, it turned out that Alex was right to fear for her life. Kubra’s employee/hitman Aydin (Juri Henley-Cohn) had snuck his way into the prison, acting as a correctional officer. The two came face-to-face during the finale in the gardening shed.

However, Prepon has offered some kind of hint she’ll be back in for season four.

https://instagram.com/p/4R8zMdG61i/

She wrote: “Glasses… Eyeliner… Badge… excited to get out there and make an awesome season for you guys! #season 4 #alexvause #Oitnb #bestfansever (sic)”

But does this mean Alex is alive? Either Piper’s ex could be returning to Season 4 for a flashback or this photo means she survived her encounter with Aydin. But perhaps Aydin wasn’t there to kill Alex at all. Maybe Kubra sent his right hand man there to break Alex out of Litchfield. After all, Kubra always seemed to have a soft spot in his heart for the brunette beauty!

Fingers crossed!

Do You Want to Look Like Ruby Rose? Well Now You Can (Video)

It’s official: the internet is obsessed with Ruby Rose. Can you blame us?

And it turns out, YouTube personality Kandee Johnson loves Litchfield’s newest inmate just as much as we do.

The makeup artist may already kind of look like Rose, but that clearly isn’t enough.

Armed with a makeup kit, Kandee transforms herself into Ruby Rose, and it’s shockingly accurate.

So if you’re not able to date Ruby Rose, you can at least paint your significant other to look exactly like her.

13 Women Who Dare To Challenge Gender Stereotypes in the Media

From Miley Cyrus to Ruby Rose, stars are shedding a light on a different kind of gender identity.

These women refuse to adhere to dated, oppressive standards set on gender and beauty. They are changing the game and using their fame to help level the playing field for the women of tomorrow.

1. Ruby Rose

The 29-year-old stars as inmate Stella Carlin on season 3 of the show and thanks to her performance, her gorgeous androgynous looks and her openness about her gender fluidity, the model-now-actress is making waves when it comes gender perceptions in the media.

gender-stereotypes-celebs-02

We’re all really breaking down the whole gender binary system. It’s like hold on, I don’t identify as this and I don’t identify as that, I’m kind of somewhere in the middle and what does that mean? And society is being more supportive than ever before.”

2. Lena Dunham

gender-stereotypes-celebs-03

Despite Lena Dunham being an enormously successful writer, actress, and producer, she has been the subject of harsh criticism regarding her appearance. In an interview with Gothamist , Lena explained her body ‘Zen’ philosophy:

We’re one weight one day, we’re one weight another day, and some day our body just doesn’t even exist at all! It’s just a vessel I’ve been given to move through this life. I think about my body as a tool to do the stuff I need to do, but not the be all and end all of my existence.”

3. Samira Wiley

gender-stereotypes-celebs-04

Samira Wiley breakout role came playing Poussey Washington in the Netflix original series Orange Is the New Black. Wiley’s androgynous beauty is ever present in the show. However, even though her character is always dressed in khaki slacks and a baggy sweatshirt, she does like to mix things up in real life.

Over the past few years since my own public image has increased tenfold, I have been overwhelmed to witness the profound ways that I am able to make a difference simply by living my life openly, and with love.”

4. Lea Delaria

gender-stereotypes-celebs-05

Actress, comedienne, jazz musician, Lea Delaria has gained media traction with her recurring character on Orange is the New Black. However, before then she was the first openly gay comic to break the late-night talk-show barrier with her appearance on The Arsenio Hall Show in 1993.

DeLaria has performed stand-up comedy for more than 25 years and is a prominent figure in the world of LGBT comedy. She began her career billing herself as “That [expletive] Dyke,” explaining that when she walked down the street, people would yell that at her.

I think the most basic prerequisite of being a woman is that you must WANT me. if you don’t want me, then your not a woman.”

5. Gwendolyn Christie

gender-stereotypes-celebs-08

Christie knew that having traditional aspects of feminity (long hair, heels, make-up) stripped away would be important for her work and in terms of her own development. “I would be confronting elements of myself that I didn’t want to confront.”

6. Ellen Degeneres

gender-stereotypes-celebs-09

Ellen Degeneres’s career was all but lost when she came out of the closet in 1997. Now she has a successful daytime talk show and has reclaimed not only her career, but has blazed a new path for people of the LGBT community who seek careers in the entertainment industry. She is an advocate for being true to oneself, and shows how beautiful honesty can be.

7. Rebel Wilson

gender-stereotypes-celebs-14

Actress and comedian Rebel Wilson knows the pressure on women in Hollywood to have skinny bodies, but she doesn’t let that get to her. Instead, she focuses on what her body can do, and how to take care of it.

8. Kristen Stewart

gender-stereotypes-celebs-06

Kristen Stewart has made it clear time and time again that she has never been much of a girly girl. So stepping out make-up free is the norm, and just look at how well she wears androgyny, hair short and tousled, a bare face, and rolled up sleeves.

The strangest part about being famous is you don’t get to give first impressions anymore. Everyone already has an impression of you before you meet them.”

9. Ellen Page

gender-stereotypes-celebs-07

At the Human Right’s Campaign inaugural Time To Thrive conference, Ellen Page memorably came out as a lesbian in a speech that grabbed headlines across the country. After calling E! News out for calling her gym style that of a “massive man,” Ellen articulated the suffocating burden of sexism and stereotypes in the mainstream media flawlessly.

There are pervasive stereotypes about masculinity and femininity that define how we’re all supposed to act, dress, and speak, and they serve no one. Anyone who defies these so called norms becomes worthy of comment and scrutiny, and the LGBT community knows this all too well.”

10. Mindy Kaling

gender-stereotypes-celebs-13

Writer, actress, producer, and all-around-amazing entertainer Mindy Kaling set the record straight about how some people in the media address her appearance. She’s not white or rail thin, yet she’s comfortable in her own skin, and is proud of the way she looks, regardless of how it compares to mainstream standards. Now THAT is real beauty.

11. Melissa McCarthy

gender-stereotypes-celebs-11

Comic powerhouse Melissa McCarthy has been the subject of harsh criticism regarding her weight, but she rarely acknowledges any of it. By opting out of a discussion about her weight, she’s creating a better world for her daughters as she explains on Anderson Cooper.

I want them to be confident, strong, healthy, happy women. And I want them to define themselves by their actions…and by how they treat other people…and I know everyone else is going to get all caught up in it, but my job is to always bring it back to what do you do, and how do you live, and what do you say to other people.”

12. Laverne Cox

gender-stereotypes-celebs-12

Laverne Cox, an actress on the Netflix series Orange Is The New Black, is the first transgender woman of colour to play such a role on a scripted television show. She’s also an activist for the transgender community. During her interview with Katie Couric, she was asked about her genitalia. Instead of getting mad about such an invasive question, she answered with authority and grace about what is truly happening when she’s asked such things:

The preoccupation with transition and with surgery objectifies trans people and then we don’t get to really deal with the real lived experiences. The reality of trans people’s lives is that so often we’re targets of violence and discrimination disproportionately to the rest of the community.”

13. Miley Cyrus

gender-stereotypes-celebs-10

With the help of famous photographer Terry Richardson, Miley Cyrus set fire to the cute and innocent image of Hannah Montana back in 2013 with the iconic topless photo shoot. Since then, Cyrus has continued to test the limits. In recent months, the Grammy nominee has been vocal with her support for LGBT homeless youth and showed her disgust for the rich and powerful.

Here’s What Ruby Rose Says about all her ‘Newly Converted’ Lesbian Fans

Speaking to Huffington Post, Ruby Rose said she had not expected the attention, or the supposed ‘lesbian’ conversions.

I’m not straight anymore. I’m not confused. I’m ready 🙂

A photo posted by karrueche (@karrueche) on

I was not expecting it, to say the least. My manager was like, ‘You’re like a viral sensation.’ And I’m like, ‘That sounds like an STD,’

The actress continued:

I have a couple of friends who don’t feel very warm towards it. They’re like, ‘Are you offended?’ They personally are offended by it saying like, ‘You can’t just choose to be gay. You should say something about all these women that are saying [they’re] turning gay or realizing [they’re] gay.’”

I think people are just saying that to be complimentary. I don’t think anyone’s doing it to be derogatory or to take away from what it really means to come out and identify as a different sexuality than what people will think you are.”

She added that people’s jokes showed that the world had moved on, observing:

I think people are just saying that to be complimentary. I don’t think anyone’s doing it to be derogatory or to take away from what it really means to come out and identify as a different sexuality than what people will think you are.

Maybe 10 years ago, people would watch someone onscreen that they would be attracted to, but they wouldn’t be able to make a funny meme and say, ‘Oh my God, I’m gay!’ because that would be so frowned upon.”

One of the main criticisms against the Rose crushes are that straight-identified women are simply trying to be “edgy,” as Madeleine Davies wrote for Jezebel. Rose, however, thinks that the so-called “trendy” nature of girl crushes are making society more accepting of LGBT people who are actually coming out.

I think it’s kind of brilliant because a lot of people can say it now who actually mean it and it not kind of be a big deal on them [to come out]. I, personally, think that the moments we try to nitpick who can and can’t say that they are genderqueer or gender-neutral or trans, or who’s gay or who’s bi — who are we to tell other people how they can live their lives and what they can tweet and what they can say? It’s really none of our business. I think we should let people go and say what they want to.”

‘Orange is the New Black’ Response to Sexist Interviewer Deserves a Standing Ovation (Video)

In an ideal world, reporters would stop objectifying actresses altogether. But alas, it is an age-old problem in we witness every day.

This week, Orange is the New Black stars Uzo Aduba, Natasha Lyonne and Samira Wiley, shut down Brazilian reporter Rafael Cortez when he asked a series of bizarre questions.

Natasha Lyonne and Samira Wiley 03

Lyonne and Wiley were asked whether as beautiful women, it’s hard to act.

Wiley responded:

I think there are some stereotypes maybe, that women are, you know, very catty on set with each other, but that doesn’t really happen on our set.”

While Lyonne said:

I feel like it’s accidentally maybe a little bit misogynistic, because it’s like “You’re so beautiful! What’s it like having to do all that acting?” I can’t tell if that’s the question, but if it is it’s insane.

Despite the great beauty on the show, everybody is, you know, professional and talented and very capable so I don’t think that anybody’s thinking about anything as meaningless as their beauty when they’re at work, or certainly at this show.”

This ‘Orange Is The New Black’ Teaser Will Make Your Day (Video)

Tomorrow is the day that Orange is the New Black hits our Netflix screens. And in the much hyped lead up, Netflix has dropped another teaser for Season 3 – excited?

In the new season, the depressing realities of prison are the subtext—but often only the subtext—of storylines played for laughs.

Piper’s lover Alex Vause (Laura Prepon) is despondent about finding herself back in prison, only to have her agony assuaged by love and hate sex.

Even-tempered Poussey (Samira Wiley) is so bored and lonely that she’s on the verge of alcoholism, which is staved off by some hijinks involving a raccoon and a shenis.

Former evangelical meth head Pennsatucky (Taryn Manning) and the butch lesbian Big Boo (Lea DeLaria) are so ostracised from everyone else, they have turned to each other, birthing a charming odd couple friendship in which they riff about whether or not Pennsatucky needs to brush her new, porcelain teeth.

The new season has its share of bittersweet and even painful moments, but as new prisoner Lolly (Lori Petty) says upon arrival, “This place is amazing!” before adding, “We got off the van five minutes ago and we haven’t heard anybody scream. The walls are so clean!”

Friday can’t come soon enough.

OITNB Featurette Hints at Ruby Rose’s Love Triangle With Alex and Piper (Must Watch!)

A must watch – we finally get a glimpse of how Ruby Rose’s new character Stella – complete with an Aussie accent – will make waves in the new season of Orange is the Black. And yes it involves Alex (Laura Prepon) and Piper (Taylor Schilling).

Watch, watch, watch…

No Way, Laura Prepon Reveals She Was Almost Piper, Not Alex

Orange is The New Black star Laura Prepon, who plays sexy Alex Vause in the series, has revealed to Rolling Stone she initial looked to play Piper Chapman.

oitnb-alex

They weren’t even casting Alex yet; they were only casting Piper, and I knew that I wasn’t exactly right for that role, but I didn’t care. I was a huge fan of Jenji Kohan, so I went in and auditioned. Then a little bit of time went by and Jenji’s like, ‘I can’t get you out of my head for Alex Vause.’”

So, did Prepon identify with Piper, even though she had already felt connected to Alex?

It’s funny; when you look at both characters, I definitely identify more with Alex. When I talked to Jenji later, she told me, ‘You know, with Piper you’re worried she’s gonna get her a** kicked in prison. When I look at you, I’m not scared about you getting your a** kicked.’ Not to say that Taylor [Schilling] would get her ass kicked, ’cause I think she’d do okay. But Alex is Maleficent-like, sexy, sassy — she can definitely looks like can take care of herself. She’s not getting her a** kicked.”

Prepon added that being a part of a show comprised mostly of women has been a completely different experience for her.

There’s a lot of us. I normally hang out with guys so when I actually got this show, all my guy friends were like, ‘Wait, it’s you and a bunch of women? What are you going to do?’ And I’m like, ‘I don’t know!’ ”

oitnb-alex-01

Prepon’s character was absent for a lot of Season 2, as she was released from prison. But, going into Season 3, Alex and Piper will both be back at Litchfield, and new cast addition Ruby Rose is rumoured to come between the ladies.

Orange Is the New Black premieres June 12 on Netflix.

Back Behind Bars – Orange Is The New Black and the Ultimate Season 3 Sneak Peek (Videos)

As the third season arrives, it’s worth reflecting upon how far Orange Is The New Black has come.

The show is based on a best-selling memoir by Piper Kerman of the same name, and many of the broad plot details remain the same. We first meet Piper (Taylor Schilling), when she is in her early thirties. She is a white, upper middle-class, liberal arts graduate who runs her own successful business selling luxury toiletries, and has just got engaged to her boyfriend.

But there is a cloud on the horizon. A drug-trafficking offence from ten years ago has finally caught up with her, and she has been served a custodial sentence.

orange-new-black-season-3

Quickly, a wonderfully rich and original world of character at Lichfield Penitentiary comes to the fore. There is a host of forceful, dynamic and complex women; damaged, devious, morally ambiguous, neither clear victims or villains. A large proportion of them, black, Latina, gay, are characterisations heretofore largely under-represented on mainstream television.

The show has wider social resonances too. It’s depictions of the endemic corruption inside the institution, and the many dehumanising privations, which compromise the women’s safety and security.

And the characters complex back-stories speak volumes too. Each character study is fleshed out with details about the particular familial, economic, and emotional conditions which have ultimately led to incarceration – and so we see lives unfolding and buckling under a litany of bad starts, desperate measures and questionable choices.

Netflix Releases First Glimpse of Ruby Rose in ‘Orange Is the New Black’, and she sounds Aussie (Video)

In a sneaky teaser, Netflix has given us a quick peek at their newest character to join Orange is the New Black.

In a fifteen-second clip, we see Australian actress, presenter and model, Ruby Rose in character as Stella Carlin in a heated conversation with Piper, played by Taylor Schilling.

This is Rose’s breakout role in the United States, and she was close to giving up the American acting dream when she scored the job.

Rose isn’t the only Aussie to be in the show, Sydney actress Yael Stone has been hiding behind the thick accent of the character Lorna Morello for the past two seasons.

Season 3 of the hit original series will be arriving on screens on June 12, via Netflix.

Spoiler Alert | Three Key Details Leaked at ‘Orange is the New Black’ Red-Carpet Premiere

Only a few weeks left before Orange is the New Black season 3 premieres on Netflix, cast and creators were out in force over the weekend at the at Netflix red-carpet premiere of the third season.

After the screening, the principal cast and creator Jenji Kohan stuck around for a Q&A at the Dramatist’s Guild of America. They discussed the premiere and the themes at play in the season to come, and dropped more than a few hints about what fans should expect.

Before we delve too hard into the spoilers, here is a quick recap of what we already know:

We found out last October that season three is going to be at least in part about an exploration of faith.

Orange is the New Black‘s book author and show consultant Piper Kiernan said in an interview.

One of the things that Jenji Kohan has said about season three already on record is that an exploration of faith is a big part of what she is planning and what they have scripted so far….[the new season] holds some really amazing stories and twists and turns.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njy0dFFlpAc

And while the trailer shows a very disappointed Alex, “OITNB” season 3 updates reveal that it will certainly get hot in Litchfield as a steamy Alex and Piper scene is underway. The sex scene will not be anything new to fans of the show, but knowing how Alex and Piper have seesawed in their relationship, it will be something to watch out for, spoilers teased.

Australian actress / model Ruby Rose, will play a sultry inmate named Stella. Stella turns out to be a love interest for both Piper and Alex, so, if you thought that that particular drama wouldn’t return with a vengeance, think again.

OITNBS3_30SEPT14_WHILDEN_D0078.NEF

We also already know (and can celebrate the fact) that Jason Biggs is not returning to the show. Larry has long been the most-derided part of OitNB, and his departure brought cheers from all across the internet.

Pornstache, another character fans of the show most love to hate, is not going to be in season three, as actor Pablo Schreiber already signed to work on another show. Pornstache’s mom is going to be a character, though, and she’ll be played by Mary Steenburgen.

As far as new information, here’s what we found out at the DGA unveiling. According to Kohan,

[Season Three is] lighter than season two, it’s a season of faith, it’s a season of motherhood, it’s a progression of everyone’s stories. I think we get deeper into our characters and we meet people….It’s very important to me to play in both [comedy and drama] because I don’t think anything is all serious or all humorous. I remember watching dramas and thinking when there was no humor or no comic relief that they didn’t reflect any sort of reality because there’s no such thing as life without humor. (But) you need a dramatic spine to hold it together.

Expect to see more of four actors – Adrienne C. Moore (Cindy Hayes), Selenis Leyva (Gloria Mendoza), Nick Sandow (Joe Caputo) and Samira Wiley (Poussey Washington) – who were upper to regular during the past year. Season 3 goes upstream June 12,”

To the frustration of fans everywhere, Kohan did not state whether Vee lived or died at the end of season two. In fact, she only addressed the question with quiet smiles.

Orange is the New Black debuts at 12:01 on Friday, June 12.

Reboot: The ladies of ‘Orange Is the New Black’ meet ‘Reservoir Dogs’ in ‘Reservoir Bitches’ (Video)

You’ve likely seen ads for USA’s Red Nose Day, involving the talents of popular entertainers.

But here’s a new one, that should really entertain you – Reservoir Bitches, featuring the ladies of Orange Is the New Black, who reimagine the naming scene from Quentin Tarantino’s classic crime-drama.

Reservoir Bitches sees the Litchfield inmates masterminding their own heist – but they seem to be a bit hung up on their code names.

This is one of several comedy sketches produced by Funny or Die for NBC’s three-hour primetime fundraiser.

The cast of Game of Thrones are also getting in on the action with their own musical parody written by Coldplay.

The biennial Red Nose Day telethon is being brought from the UK to the US for the first time by Sir Richard Curtis to raise money for 12 charities working with children and young adults in the US and Africa.

Red Nose Day was created to raise money to help children and communities around the world living in poverty. NBC’s star-studded lineup for the three-hour telethon includes Matt LeBlanc, Robert Pattinson, Simon Cowell, Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Pine, Julianne Moore, Sam Smith, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, and Benedict Cumberbatch.

‘Orange is the New Black’ Has Changed the Way We Look at Female Prisons, Says ‘Orange’ Actor Lauren Gómez

Prison, as many former or current inmates will tell you, is a horrific place. The idea behind it is that prison will reform or change a person for the better and help them make good choices; avoiding the sorts of bad choices that landed them there in the first place. That’s how prison is meant to work.

However, in the United States, prison is synonymous with big business and by 1994, prisons were able to amass profits of over $1 billion with all of that money generated by hard labour. The US incarcerates more people than any other country in the world (including China, which has three times the population of the United States) as this labour is such a revenue driver for so many companies – prisoners will be paid around $2 an hour, eight hours a day, to send that money to their families.

Other mistreatment is on the cards too, including sweltering or horrid living conditions, abuse (both physical and verbal) from the guards and more. But few people were talking about any of this until a few years ago when a show called Orange is the New Black debuted on Netflix.

Speaking to Bustle, actor Laura Gómez who plays Blanca Flores on the show, explains why the show is so important:

It’s brought all these topics to the table about the treatment of women in prison; about the justice system; about how unfair sometimes the punishment doesn’t fit the crime. I know it’s fiction, but it’s kind of reflecting a little bit of reality… We’ve seen how the treatment of the inmates goes and there’s not necessarily the right treatment to make these people fit into society when they come back from their time in prison.

We’re bringing them back to prison, that’s what we’re doing. We’re not helping them come back and be active and helpful to society again. So it’s kind of a circle that’s not really working for our society at all.”

Lauren Gómez 01
Additionally she explains why the show has had such huge success:

There’s a hungry audience out for real characters like this show has brought and they connect with not only the characters, but the actresses. [OITNB is a] cast of so many nationalities, so many backgrounds and races and just flavors and colors, playing such wonderful real characters and I think it’s been a great thing for the industry to see that.”

There is little doubt that the show discusses some of the most important issues facing women – of all races and backgrounds and sexualities – and we are very happy to see its success continue.

Lauren Gómez 02

Orange is the New Black season three debuts on Netflix on June 12, 2015.

OITNB’s Yael Stone Talks Season 3 and Which Cast Member is the Best to Party With

Yael Stone plays Lorna Morello in Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black, which returns next month.

In hit show, she has a strong accent – a mix of Brooklyn and Boston – but in real life, Yael Stone is an Aussie.

Lorna Morello

Talking recently in an interview she opened up about the up-coming season.

We finished shooting last November so it’s been a while, but it felt good and exciting. The stories are getting richer. For the third series we’re exploring this issue of faith and what people put their faith in.”

Lorna Morello 02

Whilst she stayed quiet on how much of Morello we’ll be seeing in the third series she hinted there would be new inmates joining the already huge cast list.

In a loose way, there’s always joy in finding new faces in and outside the prison and we still delight in the older characters.”

The show was nominated for the International award at this year’s Baftas but lost out to True Detective.

I like our status as rebels. You can’t deny there’s an impact Netflix has made. The original content is world class and it’s a real force. It’s making things people are hungry for and we’re proud to be part of it.”

Anyone who follows the cast on Instagram or Twitter will know they like hanging out socially and for a wild night, Stone says there are a few members you need to tag along with.

I mean Samira Wiley (who plays Poussey Washington) and Dascha Polanco (who plays Dayanara “Daya” Diaz) are the ones who want to dance with. But then you’re going to have fun if you go out with Laverne Cox or Lea DeLaria (who play Sophia and Big Boo) too.”

The Real-Life ‘Alex Vause’, Discusses Piper and Lesbian Sex in Prison

We have to admit that we’re totally fans of Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black and have been completely swept away in the personal lives of Piper, Alex and the other Litchfield Correctional inmates.

However, sadly the truth is the real-life Piper’s prison stay and romance with her real-life ex-girlfriend, is far from as seen on TV.

ruby-rose-oitnb-03

In fact, the original Alex Vause — 50-something former felon Cleary Wolters — tells HuffPost Live that her romance with Piper Kerman (Taylor Schilling‘s character Piper Chapman on the series) was far too brief to be noteworthy – kill joy.

I’m flattered that they picked out me in her life as such an interesting, charismatic character that they had to make a whole backstory about me. I never imagined I’d be Donna from That 70s Show. When I watch that part of the series, I watch it as a viewer. I don’t say ‘that’s my life.'”

Other differences between OITNB and real prison life? There’s much less sex — at least out in the open.

There is sex occurring, but it’s not happening in the showers without a shower curtain. if you get caught having sex, you go to . . . solitary confinement. I never saw it. In fact, I might have stayed had that been the case. There’d be a line to get into prison if it were as fun as Orange Is the New Black shows it to be.”

Taylor Schilling Rocks Double Denim to Diss the Selfie-Obsessed ‘Kim Kardashian Culture’

Orange Is the New Black’s Taylor Schilling just slammed what she dubbed the inauthentic, selfie-obsessed ‘Kim Kardashian culture.’

In an interview with with Elle Canada and she opened up about how she lives her life sans social media, and managed to throw major shade at the 34-year-old reality star while doing so.

It has almost become a defiant thing at this point because I do not believe this celebrity Kim Kardashian culture is what I signed up for. I’d rather create something honest than try to create something for a social media account.”

The Fordham University grad also noted that, in her experience, having more Instagram followers ‘does not get you more jobs’. She went on to explain,

There is something so sad about going online and seeing almost everyone shouting, ‘Notice me, notice me!’ Which is such a human desire — to be acknowledged. But me responding to that with some sort of, ‘You’re noticed, you’re seen’ only perpetuates the loneliness.”

While she might seem unapologetic for her staunch views about what the Internet has to offer, she doesn’t mean to come off that way. Schilling, 30, believes that people deserve to be appreciated in their own way instead of through fictional validation.

In fact, she believes it takes real courage to be true online.

It takes a lot of bravery to be authentic and honest and to take that social mask off in order to connect with another human being. So much of what makes us who we are is smoothed away online. And what truly connects us is the wrinkles, not the smoothness.”

She also thinks of herself as too sensitive to be able to handle the criticisms she might face if she shares.

Besides, my brain is just way too fragile for both,” she admits. “I am susceptible to what people think; I think we all are. So it’s just easier for me to not engage with it too much.”

‘Orange Is the New Black’ Gets Season 4 Renewal From Netflix, And We Get Another Sneak Peak of the Next Season

Watch another clip from season 3 of Orange Is the New Black, and it looks like Suzanne has some Vee feelings to deal with.

In the below clip from the coming season, Crazy Eyes (Uzo Aduba) and Poussey (Samira Wiley) nearly rumble in the cafeteria over whether Vee (Lorraine Toussaint) became roadkill or not at the end of Season 2.

So what else do we know about the new season…

Its been confirmed that the ladies of Litchfield Correctional Institution just got their sentences extended: Netflix has renewed the show for a fourth season.

Laura Prepon is back playing Alex Vause, and she’s back inside Litchfield, which, as the trailer teases, means she’s back in some drama with Piper (Taylor Schilling). Plus, new felon Stella (Ruby Rose) enters the fray.

Oscar and Golden Globe winner Mary Steenburgen, who just finished a great stint on Justified, will be a guest star in Season 3, and looks to be cast as Pornstache mom… yes, the woman who spawned Pornstache.

Several cast members were promoted from recurring to regular cast status for Season 3, which likely means more storyline — and, with any luck, more of those trademark backstories — for their characters, including Selenis Leyva (who plays Gloria Mendoza),Adrienne C. Moore (“Black Cindy”), Dascha Polanco (Daya), Nick Sandow (Caputo), Yael Stone (Morello), and Samira Wiley as Poussey. In fact, buzz is that we get more Poussey flashbacks in the season premiere. Lori Petty, who was on Piper’s plane to Chicago in the Season 2 premiere, also returns as Lolly.
