OITNB’s Taylor Schilling Opens Up About Her Sexuality

Over the years, there has been much speculation regarding Taylor Schilling sexuality – with rumours circulating that she dated Portlandia star and musician Carrie Brownstein.

But in a recent interview with the Evening Standard Magazine, Schilling talked candidly about how she saw her sexuality.

‘I’ve had very serious relationships with lots of people, and I’m a very expansive human. There’s no part of me that can be put under a label. I really don’t fit into a box – that’s too reductive.”

Schilling, who is currently single, explained:

I’m working all the time – I don’t really have anything else going on. But I’ve had wonderful relationships. I’ve had a lot of love, and I don’t have any qualms about where it comes from.”

Orange Is the New Black has been a pioneering show, confronting LGBT issues head on without stopping to apologise or diluting scenes for fear of offending.

Schilling added she was delighted with how much progress had been made with LGBT issues since the show aired.

Oh, in the first season, all people wanted to talk about was what it was like to kiss a girl. Now, if someone asks me that, there’s complete understanding if I say: ‘I’m not going to answer that question.’”

She says the difference now is that people have stopped caring as much about same-sex relationships

The things that are happening in this show, and to Piper, are not about the gender of the person she’s sleeping with. And that’s only four years. I do feel that things have changed – the world has become a little more Orange.”

Abbi And Carrie, Kristen And Annie, Ow my!

I am not one to gossip, or follow closely the tabloids, but I just had to share with you some of Hollywood’s newest queer couples.

Wait, that doesn’t right… Portland / NYC’s newest queer couple?

The urge to merge (TV shows)

Well, regardless of the city, I can’t even begin to explain how surprised I was when the rumour surfaced that Broad City‘s Abbi Jacobson is dating Portlandia’s Carrie Brownstein. I have been a huge fan of Broad City since the very first episode and recently spent 2 days glued to my couch binging on Portlandia.

A couple weeks ago, in one of my Instagram stalking sessions (slightly ashamed to share that), this photo came up.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BK3ZSanBaYM/

Wait, do they know each other?

As Autostraddle later speculated, Carrie and Abbi are dating, adding:

My sources on the ground in Portland tell me that these two have been canoodling up a storm.”

As invested as I was to find out what was going on, there is no real proof about the nature of their relationship.

Maybe what made me so curious about this relationship was the fact that I never even saw Abbi as “one of us”!

https://www.instagram.com/p/BJv7_l7AdTd/

Her Broad City character – also called Abbi – always struck me as straight, skilfully dodging her best friend’s attempt at trying the Arc de Triomphe (inside joke, you can check out the scene.

On the other hand, Brownstein was rumoured to have dated Taylor Schilling from Orange is the New Black although, again, we can only count on photos and wild speculation to assume they were in fact dating.

Music, Movies and Moving On

Moving on to the next rumour, are Kristen Stewart and Annie Clark dating?! The musician and St. Vincent‘s front-woman, Annie, was dating model Cara Delevigne for quite some time, making it harder and harder for me to leave Instagram with every post they uploaded. I mean, come on!

https://www.instagram.com/p/BAdwCA9wTVp/

On the other hand, Kristen Stewart – everyone’s favourite “not out but really out” actress – was dating Alicia Cargile or, as most tabloids put it, “they were gal pals”. The couple were then rumoured to have broken up,  Kristen start seeing Stephanie ‘Soko‘ Sokolinski, and then her and Alicia got back together earlier this year.

Still with me?

But now my Instagram feed is filled with photos of Annie and Kristen hanging out in New York.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BLWOUyqhcsl/

Los Angeles-based comedian Liza Dye met the pair backstage at a gig, and the pair were spotted apparently leaving the venue together, looking pretty cozy.

So, are they really dating or is this just some futile and desperate attempt to try to find the latest queer couple?

What are your thoughts on the latest couples? Are they really dating or is it just wild speculation?

Changing The Game: The World’s Most Influential Feminists

The people on this list are each encouraging feminist conversation and challenging people to do more to make the world more equal for all of us.

1. Carrie Brownstein

Carrie Brownstein

Actor, writer and musician Carrie Brownstein is an outspoken feminist. As part of American rock band Sleater-Kinney, she has made songs such as #1 Must Have and helped further the riot grrrl (feminist/hardcore punk) movement.

2. bell hooks

bell hooks’ writing on feminism, in which she encourages people to consider gender in relation to race, class and sex, is often cited as one of the reasons why we have the phrase intersectionality. hook’s book Ain’t I a Woman?: Black women and feminism also looks at racism and sexism in relation to black women and it also examines stereotypes of white women and how those have had an impact on black women too.

3. Beyoncé

beyonce-7-11

Beyoncé was once quoted as saying that she wasn’t a feminist because she loves her husband. However, the international superstar has since learnt a great understanding of feminism even including Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s quote on feminism on ***Flawless, also educating her millions of fans learn in the process.

4. Amandla Stenberg

5. Janet Mock

Janet Mock

Although Janet Mock was once proud not to call herself a feminist, the writer, host and activist now wears the label proudly. In a 2014 essay, she wrote “our duty is to use feminism as a tool to check systems that uphold racism and slut shaming and sex worker erasure and anti-trans woman bias and general policing of other people’s choices.”

Andi Zeisler

12629452674_fba17f20a6_b

As the co-founder and creative/editorial director of independent feminist media organisation Bitch Media, Zeisler’s work offers feminist interpretations of pop culture. Bitch Media – and Zeisler’s writing – is a massively useful feminist tool as people look for different angles of the media that they consume.

Maya Angelou

Maya Angelou, who passed away in 2014, was a hugely influential feminist. Angelou’s work discussed racism, identity and social injustices with her autobiographical work I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings being considered a large reason why black feminist writings increased in the 1970s.

Hillary Clinton

Hillary Rodham Clinton Signs Copies Of Her Book 'Hard Choices' In New York

What could be more inspiring (and badass) then possibly becoming the first female president of the United States? Hillary has always used her platform to speak out for women’s rights – as she did most notably during her 1995 “Women’s Rights are Human Rights” speech in Beijing.

Gloria Steinem

Gloria Marie Steinem is an American feminist, journalist, and social and political activist, who became nationally recognized as a leader and a spokeswoman for the feminist movement. She has inspired generations of feminists since her 1969 article After Black Power, Women’s Liberation.

Lena Dunham

lena-dunham-03

Lena Dunham’s tv show Girls broke the mould by depicting real girls with real bodies and real issues. Since then she’s never stopped encouraging women to love themselves since.

She also makes sure to give feminism-doubters a reality check: “Feminism doesn’t mean women are going to rise, take over the planet, and like cut off men’s testicles.”

Emma Watson

Emma-Watson

Emma Watson has bravely rallied for women’s rights even after being threatened because of her #HeForShe speech at the UN.

But the attacks only motivated the actress and Women’s Goodwill Ambassador to keep working against all the harmful ways that women are viewed and treated.

Pussy Riot

Russian collective Pussy Riot represents one of the strongest combinations of activism and music out there. Its members stage guerilla protests and performances, speak out against injustices for women in their music (especially against abortion laws), and demonstrate fierce bravery even in the face of jail time and government threats.

Ellen Page

Ellen Page 97

In a time when many female celebrities put a purposeful distance between themselves and the feminist label, actress Ellen Page embraces feminism as a personal mission. Whether at street protests or on Twitter, she rallies for equality, reproductive rights, gay rights and improvement in the representation of women in film.

Meredith Graves

Meredith-of-Perfect-Pussy

Meredith Graves is the lead singer of Perfect Pussy, solo artist, writer, record label owner. She is a role model who teaches through her actions that passion and drive can help change an entire scene like punk rock.

And she’s never backed down from speaking out against sexism – either in interviews or onstage, confronting misogynist hecklers.

Miranda July

miranda_july

Throughout her career, Miranda July has weaved thoughtful feminism through her seemingly endless list of projects. She’s become an icon for this generation’s young women, especially those interested in artistic pursuits, most recently tackling issues of aggression and violence in her debut novel The First Bad Man.

Betty Friedan

Betty Friedan has helped lead the way for women to understand their rights and fight for them. Friedan helped spur on the second wave of feminism with her book The Feminist Mystique and she co-founded and presided over the National Organization of Women.

Cindy Sherman

7528e5d71b68fdbdf5bf766fbc5098ba

Cindy Sherman became one of the few women to dominate the contemporary art scene from the late 70s on. And she says she’s “still really competitive when it comes to […] male painters and male artists.”

Wendy Davis

WendyDavis2

Wendy Davis made waves when she led the now-famous 11-hour filibuster against Senate Bill 5, which would require stricter abortion regulations in Texas. While the bill eventually passed, we haven’t forgotten the lawyer and politician’s fierce support, and we hope her views on reproductive rights, LGBT rights and gun control continue to be heard.

Grimes

grimes333It’s probably a scary thing to speak out and potentially alienate people right after your album has become huge, but that’s exactly what Grimes did with her anti-sexism manifesto in 2013. The Tumblr post calls out misogynist fans, condescending male musicians, and the media.

Carrie Brownstein On How Being Outed in Spin Magazine Made Her Feel ‘Splintered And Smashed’

Now, in 2015, actor, writer and musician Carrie Brownstein has legions of queer fans. Not only is the performer out herself, but she also features in new movie Carol (which stars Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara in a May-December relationship), and is also set to star in Transparent season two (as Ali Pfefferman’s best friend, Syd).

But Brownstein didn’t exactly have the easiest path to being out as although other big names such as Ellen Page, Amber Heard, and Evan Rachel Wood all came out of their own accord, the performer was actually outed.

In 1996, just as her band Sleater-Kinney was becoming more famous, the band was featured in an issue of Spin magazine. While this would be exciting for any up and coming musician, not long after the issue was published, Brownstein got a phone call from her father saying that the publication had revealed that Brownstein and bandmate Corin Tucker had dated.

Speaking to SheWired about the debacle, Brownstein explains that neither her nor Tucker had told their parents or families and that the outing left her feeling “splintered and smashed”. Moreover:

I didn’t think or know if I was gay; dating Corin was just something that had happened. I had not yet figured out who I was, and now I was robbed of the opportunity to publicly do so; to be in flux.

From that point on, any denial or rescinding would seem like backpedaling or shame to a group of people whom I didn’t want to alienate. Yet I felt it was unfair to be labeled when I had yet to find a label for myself, and when binary, fixed identities held no meaning or safety for me.”

Brownstein also tells the publication that although she sees the importance in visibility and feels that it’s “corrosive to be hidden”, she doesn’t think that “anybody ‘owes’ anything.”. This sort of terminology is “dangerous” says Brownstein, and “we need to change the conversation from ‘Do you owe me this?’ to ‘Are you living your best self?’”

brownstein-and-book-x750_0

Moreover, Brownstein is outspoken about the way that the media discusses out celebrities as well.

She is “unashamed of the identifier ‘queer,'” but, Brownstein asks, “I don’t know if that is the best description of Portlandia or the best description of Sleater-Kinney or the best description of [Brownstein’s new book ‘Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl’]”.

Rather, she challenges the media to come up with “more sophisticated, nuanced of ways of writing and critiquing” her work.

Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara Fall in Love in First Trailer For Oscar-Tipped ‘Carol’

WOW! Its here, and its what lesbian dreams are made of – *Swoon* – the Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara led lesbian love story, Carol.

Carol-01

Based on Patricia Highsmith’s 1952 semi-autobiographical novel The Price Of Salt, the film is set against the glamorous backdrop of 1950s New York.

Carol, played by Blanchett, is a married woman who risks everything when she embarks on a romance with a younger department store worker Therese, played by Rooney Mara.

It set critics buzzing with praise at the Cannes Film Festival. On Metacritics, 98% of movie experts gave the film five out of five stars. And now the world has Blanchett pegged for another Oscar, which would be her third after The Aviator and Blue Jasmine.

Carol-01

For direct Todd Haynes, this is just the latest of his feature films to focus on sexual and gender identity. His third film, Velvet Goldmine, focused on bisexual glam rock star in 1970s London. His fourth, Far From Heaven, starred Julianne Moore as a 1950s housewife whose husband (Dennis Quaid) comes out. And his last movie, I’m Not There, starred Blanchett in a gender-bending portrayal of Bob Dylan.

Carol is scheduled for limited release, premiering in the US on 20 November and in the UK on 27 November.

The Summer of Love: Cara Delevingne Opens up on Happiness with St Vincent

Cara Delevingne has been talking in Australia about how happy she is that it’s becoming more accepted across the world to speak about sexuality.

The bisexual model-turned-actress – who is in a relationship with singer St Vincent – told Daily Mail Australia that she was pleased to see that strides that were being made in terms of equality.

cara-01

Speaking at the Sydney premiere for her new film Paper Towns, she said:

I think everyone has a right to be whoever they want to be, so I’m just very happy. I think it’s wonderful that you know, it’s being accepted more and more… I’ve been pretty open about myself from the beginning.”

Ireland recently voted yes in a same-sex marriage referendum and the US introduced same-sex marriage too, but Cara encouraged Australia’s prime minister to follow suit.

Talking about her move into acting, Cara admitted she was unlikely to give up modelling completely:

You know, I feel like I’m in a very lucky position. I’m not going to quit, I’m just not modelling as much, because I’m working and performing.

Cara Delevingne Calls From Australia’s PM Tony Abbott to “Listen to the Rest of the World” on Same-Sex Marriage.

Talking to the Mail at the Australian première of her latest film Paper Towns, Cara Delevingne, has called out the politician.

Tony Abbott, you better listen to the rest of the world and carry on. Go with it. I’ve been pretty open about myself from the beginning. I think it’s wonderful that you know, it’s being accepted more and more. And I think everyone has a right to be whoever they want to be. So I’m just very happy.”

Australian Prime Minster Tony Abbott is a staunch opponent of equal marriage, but is facing pressure to allow his MPs a free vote on a cross-party marriage bill, following progress in Ireland and the United States.

Delevingne, who is in a same-sex relationship with musician St Vincent, spoke about her new relationship and sexual preference in a recent interview with Vogue.

It took me a long time to accept the idea, until I first fell in love with a girl at 20 and recognized that I had to accept it. I think that being in love with my girlfriend is a big part of why I’m feeling so happy with who I am these days. And for those words to come out of my mouth is actually a miracle.”

Vogue Magazine Criticised For Suggesting Cara Delevingne’s Sexuality is Just a “Phase”

The Cara Delevingne has previously avoided discussing her relationships, but in an interview with Vogue, she opened up about struggling with her sexuality while growing up.

It took me a long time to accept the idea, until I first fell in love with a girl at 20 and recognised that I had to accept it.”

cara-delevingne-july-2015-cover

However, while the article carried a positive message, it contained the line:

Her parents seem to think girls are just a phase for Cara, and they may be correct.”

The magazine is now the subject of a petition which calls for an apology.

The author of the petition ulie Rodriguez writes;

As a bisexual woman myself, I’ve experienced hurtful comments like this many times. People are quick to assume queer women’s identities are a ‘phase’ and to refuse to recognise the important relationships in their lives — an attitude which can cause depression, result in families rejecting their daughters and even put young women at risk of suicide.

Vogue should have taken this opportunity to combat negative stereotypes, not reinforce them. We should be applauding Cara for coming out as queer, and being open about her relationships with men and women.”

Delevingne is considered the ‘it’ girl of our time. She appears in ad campaigns, music videos, and movies. The tabloid’s love her, we love her and fans love her. And the fact that she’s in a relationship with a woman and proud is great.

Cara Delevingne Opens Up About Sexuality & Her Girlfriend in Vogue’s July Issue

Cara Delevingne is the ‘it’ girl of our time. She appears in ad campaigns, music videos, and movies. The tabloid’s love her, we love her and fans love her. And the fact that she’s in a relationship with a woman and proud of it has been the least focused-on part of her career thus far.

cara-delevingne-july-2015-cover

In the July issue of Vogue, the 22-year-old speaks candidly about her sexuality and how she’s in lover with her girlfriend St Vincent (aka Annie Clark).

She admitted:

I think that being in love with my girlfriend is a big part of why I’m feeling so happy with who I am these days. And for those words to come out of my mouth is actually a miracle.”

We couldn’t be happier for her, especially considering the long road, which led to this moment in her life.

When first coming to terms with her sexuality, she revealed:

It took me a long time to accept the idea, until I first fell in love with a girl at 20 and recognized that I had to accept it. But I have erotic dreams only about men. I had one two nights ago where I went up to a guy in the back of a VW minivan, with a bunch of his friends around him, and pretty much jumped him … The thing is, if I ever found a guy I could fall in love with, I’d want to marry him and have his children. And that scares me to death because I think I’m a whole bunch of crazy, and I always worry that a guy will walk away once he really, truly knows me.”

Pyrrhic victory!!!!!!

A photo posted by St. Vincent (@st_vincent) on

Cara doesn’t just open up about her love life though, as she also confesses about issues with partying, modelling, and struggle with depression.

On the difference between modeling and acting:

The thrill of acting is making a character real. Modeling is the opposite of real. It’s being fake in front of the camera.”

On wanting to leave the modeling world:

I’m not sure I understand what fashion is anymore. I admit I was terrified to leave. I mean, the bubble gives you a kind of dysfunctional family. When you’re in it, you get it. And the second you’re out of it, you’re like, What the hell just happened?”

cara-delevingne-july-2015-01

On her mom’s struggle with heroine addiction:

It shapes the childhood of every kid whose parent has an addiction. You grow up too quickly because you’re parenting your parents. My mother’s an amazingly strong person with a huge heart, and I adore her. But it’s not something you get better from, I don’t think. I know there are people who have stopped and are fine now, but not in my circumstance. She’s still struggling.”

On suffering from depression as a teen:

This is something I haven’t been open about, but it’s a huge part of who I am. All of a sudden I was hit with a massive wave of depression and anxiety and self-hatred, where the feelings were so painful that I would slam my head against a tree to try to knock myself out. I never cut, but I’d scratch myself to the point of bleeding. I just wanted to dematerialize and have someone sweep me away.”

And she continued, sharing:

I smoked a lot of pot as a teenager, but I was completely mental with or without drugs. I thought that if I wanted to act, I’d need to finish school, but I got so I couldn’t wake up in the morning. The worst thing was that I knew I was a lucky girl, and the fact that you would rather be dead . . . you just feel so guilty for those feelings, and it’s this vicious circle. Like, how dare I feel that way? So you just attack yourself some more.”

Which lead to her low point. Cara explained:

Full-on bubble. I was packing my bags, and suddenly I just wanted to end it. I had a way, and it was right there in front of me. And I was like, I need to decide whether I love myself as much as I love the idea of death.” And then a song started playing on her laptop, Outkast’s SpottieOttieDopaliscious, which had been played at the funeral of a friend who had recently died of a heroin overdose. “It felt like a warning from him. And it made me so furious with myself.”

No one can ever say she’s had it easy. She’s gone through so much, but at least has the support of so many good friends.

Did Cara Delevingne and girlfriend Annie Clark get engaged?

Oh how celebrities enjoy tormenting us mere mortals via their social media accounts!

Cara Delevingne and her girlfriend Annie Clark have sparked rumours of an engagement.

Yesterday, Annie Clark, aka musician St. Vincent, posted a cryptic Instagram after hanging with Stella McCartney’s model squad at the designer’s Resort 2016 presentation.

Cara Delevingne And St Vincent

She captioned the snap: “Ok…”

Ok…

A photo posted by St. Vincent (@st_vincent) on

Fans of the couple – who’ve been dating since earlier this year – went crazy, begging the pair to tell them if the rumours were true.

Neither Cara or Annie have commented on the speculation.

However, upon further analysis, it appears that the writing could indeed be Cara’s. Here’s a survey she filled out and that someone uploaded to Pinterest. We’re no professional handwriting analysts, but the similarities are not non-existent. There’s also zero reason to think that just because the handwriting is Cara’s that they’re definitely getting married, especially with THAT caption.

6c83e913e208796302c1a62a9a876a0a

But, before we all go rushing out to buy our wedding hats (because we’d totally be invited) it’s worth remembering that ‘Marry Me’ is also the title to St Vincent’s debut album and we may just be getting ahead of ourselves here.

Could ‘Lesbian Themed’ Movies Rule Next Years Oscars?

Indiewire have updated their 2016 Oscar predictions, and they predict a very real possibility that over half of this year’s female acting nominations could go to portrayals of gay women.

Lesbians have represented at the Oscars before. Charlize Theron won for playing serial killer Aileen Wuornos, Nicole Kidman played Virginia Woolf, and Annette Bening almost won for her rule in the The Kids Are All Right.

Also read: When It Pays To Be A Lesbian At The Oscars

So who has been tipped?

There is a possibility that openly gay actress Lily Tomlin could get a nomination for playing someone openly gay in Grandma. Which is actually a first – a lesbian actress being nominated for playing a lesbian character – shock horror!

Tomlin would also become the only second gay person to be nominated for playing a gay person. Ian McKellen is currently the only other example.

In Paul Weitz’s Grandma, Tomlin plays a lesbian poet who goes on a road trip with her granddaughter after she breaks up with her long-term partner.

grandma-01

This is her first lead role in a film in over 27 years, and she’s incredible in it. Sony Pictures Classics is surely going to rev up a campaign for her come fall, in hopes of giving 75 year old Tomlin her first Oscar nomination since 1975, when she was nominated for Nashville. Our fingers are firmly crossed.

Also read: Watch | New Clip Released from Lily Tomlin’s New movie ‘Grandma’

If Tomlin does get nominated, she would almost certainly be competing against Cate Blanchett, who got insanely good reviews out of Cannes for Todd Haynes’ Carol. Blanchett plays half of a 1950s lesbian romance in the film, the other half being played by Rooney Mara, who beat out Blanchett for Cannes’ Best Actress award.

Carol-01

Mara is a very likely nominee too, though The Weinstein Company could very well campaign her in supporting.

Either way, this is three possible lesbian nominees.

And then there’s Freeheld, which we’ll likely be released at the Toronto Film Festival.

Freeheld-poster-01

The movie stars last year’s best actress winner Julianne Moore, who is paired with Ellen Page. The film is a classic Oscar bait story of real life lesbian Laurel Hester (Moore), a police officer in Ocean County, New Jersey. Following her diagnosis with terminal lung cancer in 2005, Hester repeatedly appealed to the county’s board of chosen freeholders in an attempt to ensure her pension benefits could be passed on to her domestic partner, Stacie Andree (Page).

Also read: Will Ellen Page’s “Freeheld” Be A Surprise Box Office Hit?

The film is actually based on a documentary short that won an Oscar, and is written by the same man who got a nomination for his screenplay for Philadelphia.

We obviously won’t know until we see it, but both Moore and Page sure seem like contenders for best actress and best support. That would also make Moore the only person to receive two nominations for playing queer characters.

Watch | First Teaser of Cate Blanchett’s new Lesbian / Bi-Feature Film ‘Carol’

This week Cate Blanchett’s film Carol premieres at Cannes, and we’re all very excited. We’re even more excited to finally see so clips from the film.

Carol-02

The big-screen adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s 1952 lesbian cult classic The Price of Salt stars Blanchett as a socialite Carol who falls for a younger shop girl (Rooney Mara). While lesbian pulp novels usually ended in tragedy (it would have been blasphemous to end them in blissful romance) Highsmith broke barriers by doing the opposite. In The Price of Salt the lead falls for a young woman – a department store clerk and artist – and spoiler alert (!) it ends in a way that lets us imagine that the two women end up happy together.

Also read: Cate Blanchett Confirms Her Past Relationships With Women

The original 1952 romance novel (which Highsmith originally published under a pseudonym, having predicted public outrage over the queer storyline) was very popular among lesbians of the time period — not all that surprising, due to the unconventional characters that defied stereotypes.

The clips don’t give much a way in terms of plot, but the two stars coy glances say so much more.

Carol-01Carol-04

On the film, director Todd Haynes says

In some ways, the event of a gay love story is less surprising every day. But I think love stories are hard to pull off, period. They require external forces that keep the lovers apart.”

Cate is now one of several public women who have spoken about having relationships with women, while also not labelling themselves, much like Miley Cyrus.

Gossip Alert | Which Out It Girl’s Relationship May Be On The Rocks?

It’s easy to be all cozy and coupled up in the winter, but now that spring fever has set in, many couples in Hollywood are finding it a lot harder to stay oh so in love.

Rumours have been flying the past few weeks that Cara Delevingne fling with rocker St. Vincent (aka Annie Clark) is on the rocks.

The model and now actress took to Twitter to curb the rumours – tweeting that she’s “very much in love.”

But sources at Star are telling us a verrrrrry different story…

The relationship is a constant roller coaster that’s more of a partying partnership than a love affair. It’s always the same story with Cara–her romances are hot and sexual, then turn into a slippery slope of too much partying that leads to nonstop fighting.”

Hmmm… We had always assumed that dating the ever-in-demand Delevingne was pretty much like this. She doesn’t exactly seem the type to stay home baking pies and giving foot rubs.

Hello – did you see her at the Met Gala??

But for now, St. V seems to be OK with Cara’s antics.

They’ve patched things up. but it’s a toxic relationship that no one thinks will last.”

Did we think it would – Cara is in young and St. V is in her 30s, so we wouldn’t be shocked if she was looking for something a bit more stable, would you?

Cara Delevingne: ‘I Do Love A Chase’

Cara Delevingne is usually associated with prominent eyebrows, goofy facial expressions and brazen nudity from many of her photo shoots.

She is also linked to a string of famous romances with a wide array of music and film stars including Fast and the Furious actor Michelle Rodriguez, and now an on-again, off-again romance with 32-year-old American singer songwriter St Vincent.

In the past, Cara normally stays pretty coy on the subject but in a new interview with website News.com.au she has revealed that when dating she fancies herself as a “bit of a predator.”

I’m someone who loves to chase; I’m a bit of a predator but not in a weird way. But I do love a chase and I also love to be chased. It depends on how your chemistry works.”

It was first reported that Cara and musician St.Vincent, were together after they were spotted together at a BRIT Awards party in February, although it is thought that they had started dating in secret long before that. More recently the pair attended the star-studded Burberry party in LA together spending the entire evening at each other’s sides.

Recently the model is refuting claims she and St Vincent (whose real name is Anne ‘Annie’ Clark) have split stating “I am very much in love” she stated on Twitter.

As well as opening up about her love life, Cara also talked about her very successful career. Despite being one of the most high-profile models in the world, she revealed that she never saw herself on the catwalk.

I never thought I’d be a model. I never wanted to be a model and I never thought people would actually want me to be a model. I was a feral kid, a big tomboy. Beauty wasn’t important at all and it still isn’t in a way.”

Though she’s been modelling professionally since the age of ten and currently holds the prestigious title as brand ambassador of Burberry, Yves Saint Laurent Beaute, and TAG Heuer, the 22-year-old star remains uncomfortable looking at these larger-than-life images.

Cara also revealed that she is a huge yoga fan, crediting the practise with helping her beat some of her demons. Admitting that she feels she had made a lot of mistakes in her life the model said:

Yoga saved my life, as did meditation. Before I found yoga I didn’t know how to be by myself or how to say no to people. I was very much a people pleaser. I never actually knew what I wanted in life until I discovered yoga and the importance of taking time for oneself. It really taught me how to connect to myself emotionally and how to love myself.”

Cara Delevingne Cryptic Instagram Posts

Cara Delevingne was thought to have been happily loved-up with her girlfriend, St. Vincent, but she has caused worry among her fans on social media, thanks to a series of cryptic and heartbreak-related posts shared over the past few days.

The pair – who are thought to have been dating since December – attended the Burberry London In Los Angeles event together, where they rubbed shoulders with the likes of the Beckhams, Naomi Campbell and Mila Kunis.

The couple were seen jetting out of Los Angeles International Airport together, looking as happy as ever while Cara wore a coat belonging to St. Vincent, whose real name is Anne ‘Annie’ Clark.

But the British model’s latest posts on Instagram have sparked concern among her fans. On Monday, the beauty shared a very sad picture of a crying stick figure drawing holding a broken heart, along with the words ‘it’s hurting again’. This was followed by a quote from the poet Rumi, that gave more than a hint at her potential love life situation.

Her cryptic posts caused her millions of fans to respond in their droves, offering her support and wishing her well, with some event acknowledging that she had perhaps ended her relationship with the Grammy winning singer.

Yahoo then reported that Delevingne had real, heartfelt emotions for Annie Clark and that she had been truly gutted to have dumped her.

But with all social media romances true love wins through, and Delevingne posted to her twitter account confirmation of her love.

Cate Blanchett’s Lesbian Love Story ‘Carol’ Set For 2015 Cannes Film Festival Début

There are a number of films that will vie for the Palme d’Or at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, but in contention is Todd Haynes’ Carol –  a 1950s lesbian love story starring Cate Blanchett.

Carol is an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s 50s lesbian pulp novel The Price of Salt.

Playing the two leads are Cate Blanchett as Carol and Rooney Mara as the younger woman, whilst Sarah Paulson and Carrie Brownstein (Paulson and Brownstein are both openly queer) play two other women in Carol’s life.

Todd Haynes’ recent films (Far From HeavenI’m Not There) have played the fall festival circuit, and this latest drama, which the Weinstein Co. is releasing Stateside this fall, will mark his first appearance at Cannes since 1998’s “Velvet Goldmine,” which received a prize for artistic contribution from the jury.

With no trailer and just a fan-made video of on set photos to go on it’s unclear if Carol will simply hint at a happy ending or explicitly say it, but we’ll have to wait and see.

WTF, Taylor Schilling Has Apparently Switched Teams?

According to online sources, Orange Is The New Black star Taylor Schilling has apparently ‘switched teams’, and is now in a lesbian relationship with Portlandia co-creator Carrie Brownstein.

There have been rumours swirling for a while now, especially after Schilling was spotted by gig goers in London and Glasgow supporting Brownstein on tour.

However, according to Star Magazine, Schilling is officially dating Brownstein, and the ladies have gone public with their relationship, with an inside source dishing that there has “always been a spark” between Schilling and Brownstein.

“Orange Is The New Black star Taylor Schilling has taken a cue from her on-screen character and is no dating a woman. Taylor has been getting cozy with 40 year old Portlandia cocreator Carrie Brownstein. The pair, who have been friends for a while, recently took things to the next level and friends say that they couldn’t be happier. And the couple are wasting no time hiding their newfound love. Taylor was most recently spotted visiting Carrie in Portland, Oregon on March 15th, where fans spotted them out and about.”

So why the hell are we only just noticing? Autostraddle did posted a piece recently discussing the matter:

“Questions have been pouring in lately about these two, mostly because it flew under the goddamn radar for so long. While the universe exploded over the revelation that OITNB’s Samira Wiley was dating one of the shows writers, Taylor Schilling just strutted right into black-tie events on Carrie Brownstein’s arm, cool as a cucumber…”

Hmmmm - could this be the classic case of lesbian/bi women not being allowed to hang out with straight girls without rumours flying, or is this the real deal?

taylor-schilling-02

OITNB writer Lauren Morelli, filed for divorce from her husband, and last year announced that working on the show helped her realise that she is actually a lesbian.

So, do you think that Taylor and Carrie Brownstein make a cute couple?

The two have also been seen hanging out at the Paramount Hotel in New York recently where, according to reports, “[they] snuck off to the bathroom during dinner and slow-danced at the end of the show. At one point they shared a chair and were hugging and kissing.”

Cara Delevingne is spokesperson for National Coming Out Day in the UK and her message was, ‘doesn’t matter who you are or what you believe it, we are one’.

When The Broad City Duo Met The Sleater-Kinney Trio

Following Tuesday’s release of the Sleater-Kinney new album No Cities to Love, NPR has made available a full video of the intimate, 90-minute panel discussion, hosted by the stars and creators of Comedy Central’s Broad City.

As part Q&A Broad City‘s Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer peppered, the Sleater-Kinney trio – Carrie Brownstein, Corin Tucker and Janet Weiss –  with some great questions on creative restlessness, feminism, gender-based pigeonholing, audience and media expectations and commercialism.

Glazer even read off a few questions submitted by Amy Poehler, an avowed Sleater-Kinney fan who helped will Broad City into televised existence.

Watch the new Sleater-Kinney video featuring Ellen Page, Miranda July, Natasha Lyonne, Sarah Silverman and so many more of our faves sing the band’s new song, “No Cities to Love,” which is the title track off their album, coming out next Tuesday.

50s Lesbian Epic ‘Carol’ ft Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Sarah Paulson and Portlandia star Carrie Brownstein, Will Be Out Next Year

While films like 2005’s ‘Imagine Me and You’ and more recent foreign language hit ‘Blue is the Warmest Colour’ have hit a chord as good queer lady led media. There is generally a stark lack of queer, female representation on our movie screens.

For the sake of both fixing what’s lacking and having the same chances at media representation that heterosexual people do (where boring, trope-y love triangles feature three people of the same gender rather than two), this needs to change. With Hollywood’s ever-changing mind-set and the calls and money of queer media fans making loud noises, things are slowly starting to improve.

One such example is Carol. An upcoming film from filmmaker Todd Haynes, Carol is an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s 50s lesbian pulp novel The Price of Salt.

Playing the two leads are Cate Blanchett as Carol and Rooney Mara as the younger woman, whilst Sarah Paulson and Carrie Brownstein (Paulson and Brownstein are both openly queer) play two other women in Carol’s life.

With no trailer and just a fan-made video of on set photos to go on it’s unclear if Carol will simply hint at a happy ending or explicitly say it, but we’ll have to wait and see.

As for what else we know about Carol, there’s reason to believe that it’s in very good hands indeed. Backing the project are Killer Films who are responsible for the Oscar winning film Boys Don’t Cry which was based on the real life story of a trans man, their mini-series Mildred Pierce won Emmys, a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild award and both of the founders of Killer Films (along with filmmaker Haynes) are all out and proud.

It’s making all the right sounds then and we can expect Carol to be released sometime next year, although we could see sneak previews as soon as January, 2015 at the next Sundance Film Festival.
