Ellen Page Brings Girlfriend Samantha Thomas As Her Date To Freeheld Premiere In Toronto

Ellen Page and her girlfriend Samantha Thomas made their red carpet debut as a couple on Sunday in Toronto.

Page, and the artist and surfer have been dating for several months and when asked why she decided to make their relationship public at this time, the Juno star said simply:

I’m in love.”

Freeheld has been a passion project for Page so the premiere seemed like the right time for their glamorous public debut.

Page told E! News

Walking down the carpet holding my girlfriend’s hand is pretty special. It’s pretty awesome.”

The actress, who came out in February 2014, stars in the true story of a lesbian couple who fight for domestic partner rights after one of them is diagnosed with cancer.

So it was perhaps only fitting that she would use the occasion of its screening at the Toronto International Film Festival to go public with the new love in her life.

Samantha also joined Ellen at the special party Vanity Fair threw for Freeheld which also stars Julianne Moore, Steve Carell and Michael Shannon.

The two looked awesome as they both wore tuxedo ensembles.

During the premiere event, close friend Ruby Rose couldn’t help but gush about her close friend’s latest project.

Writing on Instagram, she said

When your best friend is the most talented, funny, beautiful, generous, humble human being it’s hard to not smile until it hurts. Ellen, I am so proud of you and will always be grateful for everything you are and will always be to me.”

She later posed with Page and Thompson, but not before talking about their chic looks.

Ruby Rose Talks Talk Tattoos, OITNB and Being Compared Justin Bieber On ‘Conan’

Model/DJ/actor Ruby Rose and Justin Bieber are this seasons celebrity doppelgängers.

However, it would appear the actress is tired of the comparison.

The “Orange Is the New Black” star spoke to Conan O’Brien about her much-talked about resemblance to the pop star, shrugging it off with a laugh and saying,

I hear that he gets asked a lot if he is Ruby Rose. And it must be very frustrating for him.”

Rose then turned the tables and started a discussion on O’ Brien’s looks.

I feel like you can relate because you look like a mixture of Tilda Swinton, Meryl Streep, and like … Joel Edgerton.”

O’Brien was surprised by Rose’s analogies, but took it in a good stride and joked that he felt happy she added a guy to the list.

I like that it’s three and two are women. I’m glad that you threw one guy in there. Just to butch it up just a little bit for me,”

He also added two more names – Dame Judi Dench and Betty White – to the list of stars he thinks he resembles.

The 29-year-old also talked about her many tattoos, explaining that since she has so many (around 60), they’ve basically become one.

Ah celesbians. Oh how we love the fact we now have a number of out women to gossip about, especially when it comes to their nuptials.

In a recent interview with fashion designer Phoebe Dahl with Hello! she has revealed how she wants to have a huge wedding with her fiancée Ruby Rose.

Phoebe Dahl Ruby Rose 01

On the couple’s plans for the future, she said;

Ruby wants a low-key wedding but I want a big one. I’m from a family of 50 so it’s going to have to be big. I don’t know how anyone has time to plan a wedding; we’re both so focused on our careers right now.

I didn’t [believe in love at first sight] before Ruby, but now I do.”

The pair got engaged earlier this year. While Ruby was the first one to propose marriage, it was Phoebe who actually got down on one knee and it was not the most usual engagement.

The next day I wake up at 5am and she’s broken into my house!’ the Orange Is The New Black star told Australian radio KIIS. I freak out because I think someone is going to rob me and she gets down on one knee and says, ‘Will you marry me?’”

She added

I’m like, “Is this a prank? Get the F out of here! I’m absolutely serious—I love you and want to spend the rest of my life with you.””

In the last few days Gadsby has posted over a dozen hilarious Ruby Rose inspired selfies on her Instagram acoount.

The launch of season 3 Orange Is The New Black, introduced the world to Ruby Rose and her character Stella Carlin.

Since then, she has become the poster child gender fluidity, and there have already been comparisons between her character and the prototype lesbian seductress, The L Word’s Shane McCutcheon.

With Season 4 of OITNB now in production, and the continued trajectory of Australians making it in Hollywood, Hannah Gadsby is keen to emulate Rose’s Insta fame.

Does she have what it takes? We think so.

Orange Is The New Black News: Ruby Rose Talks Stella’s Fate

The whole world fell slightly in love with Ruby Rose following her Orange Is The New Black debut, but now that it’s all over and her character Stella’s fate is still uncertain, what does she think is going to happen?

OITNBS3_21OCT14_WHILDEN_D0640.NEF

Speaking in an interview with Variety, Rose credits her short film Break Free for helping her bag her role on the series.

She also revealed that she was originally meant to play an American inmate in the show, before producers told her they were sticking with her Ozzie roots.

As for Stella’s fate, Rose reckons Piper may have taken things a bit far:

I obviously don’t think she deserved quite that fate. Stella had done her time and was ready to get out. It wasn’t the wisest thing for her to steal from Piper but having said that, Stella comes from nothing.

She has no money, no help on the outside, and I think this is what happens when you’ve done time in prison and you’re about to go into the real world. It’s not easy.”

Unfortunately for fans keen to see her back for Season 4, she admitted she doesn’t know if Stella will return, as filming has already started for the first few episodes.

Rose is set to star in Dark Matter this week, and is in talks with Fast and Furious 8.

What did you make of Stella in Season 3?

Why Ruby Rose’s Story on Gender Identity is the Right Conversation to Have With the Press

Ruby Rose has been very outspoken about her gender fluidity, noting that she doesn’t fully identify with one gender (male or female).

ruby-rose-fashion-02

The last couple of weeks, this story that has flooded mainstream media outlets, with many news outlets running with the headline of how she once wanted to be a boy.

The model-DJ-actress went on to Access Hollywood to explain what it actually means to question your gender. Something many of us can identify with through those tough coming out years.

When I was younger, for sure I [thought about transitioning]. I had this jar that I would collect dollars, in fact, we were so poor, it would have been cents, so I probably had 19 cents to go towards this surgery that I really didn’t know a lot about. I think I’d seen like a daytime documentary, probably something on ‘Oprah,’ and I was like, ‘That’s what I’m going to do.’ So I started saving from probably the age of five. When I got to 15, [it was] when I kind of decided to get more into my body. I shaved my head and my mom was like, ‘I don’t know what’s going on right now, but if you are happy, then do it.'”

Rose said that shaving her head, altering her appearance, and changing the way she spoke made her see she didn’t actually want to transition.

I realised I didn’t want to transition, I just wanted to be more comfortable in my own skin.”

Which is actually something a lot of queer women struggle with – feeling comfortable in the way we look. We grow up seeing the ideals of a hetero-normative lifestyle, which we don’t truly fit into.

We haven’t grown up with many positive role models. Female gender and sexuality is perceived to be one way – the Disney princess, the Kim Kardashian.

What Rose is doing is saying actually there is something alternative out there and its ok. And she is doing it in a big way, and without fear.

ruby-rose-Interview-04

It took her years to conquer Hollywood, and 24 hours to become a massive success once season 3 of Orange is The New Black hit our screens.

Rose, who is launching a gender-fluid brand, goes on to say that gender is sometimes complicated.

ruby-rose-fashion

Gender fluidity is not really feeling like you’re at one end of the spectrum or the other. For the most part, I definitely don’t identify as any gender. I’m not a guy; I don’t really feel like a woman, but obviously I was born one. So, I’m somewhere in the middle, which — in my perfect imagination — is like having the best of both sexes. I have a lot of characteristics that would normally be

Rose, 29, got her start on Australian MTV as a VJ, but has since turned to acting — and she says that landing the role of Stella on OITNB soon after moving to the US was definitely unexpected.

A month ago, Rose told EW

My first big job is maybe, arguably, one of the biggest television shows around at the moment with some of the best actors of our time.”

Rose’s Dark Matter episode will air Friday 24th July, at 10 p.m. ET on Syfy.

Ruby Rose and Michelle Rodriguez Look set to Share Screen Time in ‘Furious 8’

Furious 8 cast apparently will have more female characters than any other instalment of the franchise. With veteran actress Helen Mirren, Ruby Rose and Hitch actress Eva Mendes – who is reprising her role she portrayed in the second instalment of the movie – set to join Michelle Rodriguez.

Michelle Rodriguez 99

Mendes appeared in 2 Fast, 2 Furious in 2003, in which she played the role of undercover customs agent Monica Fuentes, who fell for the handsome group member Brian O’Conner, played by the late actor Paul Walker.

Eva Mendes

While Mendes is likely to team up with Vin Diesel’s gang, Mirren, reportedly will join Jason Statham to play the role of main villain. Not much is known about her character yet, other than the fact that she will play the role of a powerful woman with maddening driving skills.

Helen Mirren

After being rejected in the audition for Fast and Furious 7, Rose is set to join the eighth instalment of the popular franchise. The 29-year-old Aussie model is said to be playing a seductress in the movie, elevating its glam quotient. Not much is being disclosed about her role yet, but please let her see her share screen time with Rodriguez.

Another female star expected to join the cast is UFC champion Ronda Rousey, who will be joining Dom in the upcoming sequel. The movie will reportedly be shot in New York and is set to release on April 14, 2017.

Ruby Rose Says She Had a Hard Time Making it in Hollywood (Video)

Lets face Ruby Rose is having a blast right now. Women around the world declaring their love for her, hanging out with Justin Bieber, and being heavily praised for her break-out performance in Orange Is the New Black.

But life wasn’t always so easy. Talking to The Today Show, Rose explained that she had a hard time finding an agent and making it in Hollywood.

Ruby Rose is Heading to ‘Dark Matters’

In recent article with InterviewRuby Rose has revealed she has new role in Dark Matter, alongside Zoie Palmer.

The greatest thing about having done Orange are the doors that have opened for me, and people have been able to see me, like the executives and the casting directors, also all of the fantastic directors and writers for independent films. There are definitely a lot of roles playing around that I think would be great for—female protagonists. I did a guest spot on a sci-fi movie [Dark Matter].

On her part she goes on to say…

I got to play with a toy gun and shoot people. That kind of thing has a lot of adrenaline and it’s very different from Orange. It’s really just action and I think that I would like to do that a little bit more—running around and driving fast cars and fighting people. It makes you want to be in an action film.

ruby-rose-Interview-01 ruby-rose-Interview-02

In the same interview, Ruby talks about the Stella and Piper relationship.

They’re very different, but it works. I think that Stella is more of a tomboy; she has a “don’t really care” attitude and is a lot more sure of herself. I think that attraction is based off the tension between Piper’s interior and Stella really wanting to find out that interior for herself, and maybe sees a little bit of a challenge there. Stella might feel that she wants to know Piper, but wasn’t really expecting an attraction or what was Piper’s end game.

The manipulation [Piper] was doing within that time was much more self-serving then something that was going to be a long-term relationship or genuinely caring about Stella. It’s kind of sad. I feel a little bit bad for Stella.

Do You Want to Look Like Ruby Rose? Well Now You Can (Video)

It’s official: the internet is obsessed with Ruby Rose. Can you blame us?

And it turns out, YouTube personality Kandee Johnson loves Litchfield’s newest inmate just as much as we do.

The makeup artist may already kind of look like Rose, but that clearly isn’t enough.

Armed with a makeup kit, Kandee transforms herself into Ruby Rose, and it’s shockingly accurate.

So if you’re not able to date Ruby Rose, you can at least paint your significant other to look exactly like her.

13 Women Who Dare To Challenge Gender Stereotypes in the Media

From Miley Cyrus to Ruby Rose, stars are shedding a light on a different kind of gender identity.

These women refuse to adhere to dated, oppressive standards set on gender and beauty. They are changing the game and using their fame to help level the playing field for the women of tomorrow.

1. Ruby Rose

The 29-year-old stars as inmate Stella Carlin on season 3 of the show and thanks to her performance, her gorgeous androgynous looks and her openness about her gender fluidity, the model-now-actress is making waves when it comes gender perceptions in the media.

gender-stereotypes-celebs-02

We’re all really breaking down the whole gender binary system. It’s like hold on, I don’t identify as this and I don’t identify as that, I’m kind of somewhere in the middle and what does that mean? And society is being more supportive than ever before.”

2. Lena Dunham

gender-stereotypes-celebs-03

Despite Lena Dunham being an enormously successful writer, actress, and producer, she has been the subject of harsh criticism regarding her appearance. In an interview with Gothamist , Lena explained her body ‘Zen’ philosophy:

We’re one weight one day, we’re one weight another day, and some day our body just doesn’t even exist at all! It’s just a vessel I’ve been given to move through this life. I think about my body as a tool to do the stuff I need to do, but not the be all and end all of my existence.”

3. Samira Wiley

gender-stereotypes-celebs-04

Samira Wiley breakout role came playing Poussey Washington in the Netflix original series Orange Is the New Black. Wiley’s androgynous beauty is ever present in the show. However, even though her character is always dressed in khaki slacks and a baggy sweatshirt, she does like to mix things up in real life.

Over the past few years since my own public image has increased tenfold, I have been overwhelmed to witness the profound ways that I am able to make a difference simply by living my life openly, and with love.”

4. Lea Delaria

gender-stereotypes-celebs-05

Actress, comedienne, jazz musician, Lea Delaria has gained media traction with her recurring character on Orange is the New Black. However, before then she was the first openly gay comic to break the late-night talk-show barrier with her appearance on The Arsenio Hall Show in 1993.

DeLaria has performed stand-up comedy for more than 25 years and is a prominent figure in the world of LGBT comedy. She began her career billing herself as “That [expletive] Dyke,” explaining that when she walked down the street, people would yell that at her.

I think the most basic prerequisite of being a woman is that you must WANT me. if you don’t want me, then your not a woman.”

5. Gwendolyn Christie

gender-stereotypes-celebs-08

Christie knew that having traditional aspects of feminity (long hair, heels, make-up) stripped away would be important for her work and in terms of her own development. “I would be confronting elements of myself that I didn’t want to confront.”

6. Ellen Degeneres

gender-stereotypes-celebs-09

Ellen Degeneres’s career was all but lost when she came out of the closet in 1997. Now she has a successful daytime talk show and has reclaimed not only her career, but has blazed a new path for people of the LGBT community who seek careers in the entertainment industry. She is an advocate for being true to oneself, and shows how beautiful honesty can be.

7. Rebel Wilson

gender-stereotypes-celebs-14

Actress and comedian Rebel Wilson knows the pressure on women in Hollywood to have skinny bodies, but she doesn’t let that get to her. Instead, she focuses on what her body can do, and how to take care of it.

8. Kristen Stewart

gender-stereotypes-celebs-06

Kristen Stewart has made it clear time and time again that she has never been much of a girly girl. So stepping out make-up free is the norm, and just look at how well she wears androgyny, hair short and tousled, a bare face, and rolled up sleeves.

The strangest part about being famous is you don’t get to give first impressions anymore. Everyone already has an impression of you before you meet them.”

9. Ellen Page

gender-stereotypes-celebs-07

At the Human Right’s Campaign inaugural Time To Thrive conference, Ellen Page memorably came out as a lesbian in a speech that grabbed headlines across the country. After calling E! News out for calling her gym style that of a “massive man,” Ellen articulated the suffocating burden of sexism and stereotypes in the mainstream media flawlessly.

There are pervasive stereotypes about masculinity and femininity that define how we’re all supposed to act, dress, and speak, and they serve no one. Anyone who defies these so called norms becomes worthy of comment and scrutiny, and the LGBT community knows this all too well.”

10. Mindy Kaling

gender-stereotypes-celebs-13

Writer, actress, producer, and all-around-amazing entertainer Mindy Kaling set the record straight about how some people in the media address her appearance. She’s not white or rail thin, yet she’s comfortable in her own skin, and is proud of the way she looks, regardless of how it compares to mainstream standards. Now THAT is real beauty.

11. Melissa McCarthy

gender-stereotypes-celebs-11

Comic powerhouse Melissa McCarthy has been the subject of harsh criticism regarding her weight, but she rarely acknowledges any of it. By opting out of a discussion about her weight, she’s creating a better world for her daughters as she explains on Anderson Cooper.

I want them to be confident, strong, healthy, happy women. And I want them to define themselves by their actions…and by how they treat other people…and I know everyone else is going to get all caught up in it, but my job is to always bring it back to what do you do, and how do you live, and what do you say to other people.”

12. Laverne Cox

gender-stereotypes-celebs-12

Laverne Cox, an actress on the Netflix series Orange Is The New Black, is the first transgender woman of colour to play such a role on a scripted television show. She’s also an activist for the transgender community. During her interview with Katie Couric, she was asked about her genitalia. Instead of getting mad about such an invasive question, she answered with authority and grace about what is truly happening when she’s asked such things:

The preoccupation with transition and with surgery objectifies trans people and then we don’t get to really deal with the real lived experiences. The reality of trans people’s lives is that so often we’re targets of violence and discrimination disproportionately to the rest of the community.”

13. Miley Cyrus

gender-stereotypes-celebs-10

With the help of famous photographer Terry Richardson, Miley Cyrus set fire to the cute and innocent image of Hannah Montana back in 2013 with the iconic topless photo shoot. Since then, Cyrus has continued to test the limits. In recent months, the Grammy nominee has been vocal with her support for LGBT homeless youth and showed her disgust for the rich and powerful.

Here’s What Ruby Rose Says about all her ‘Newly Converted’ Lesbian Fans

Speaking to Huffington Post, Ruby Rose said she had not expected the attention, or the supposed ‘lesbian’ conversions.

I’m not straight anymore. I’m not confused. I’m ready 🙂

A photo posted by karrueche (@karrueche) on

I was not expecting it, to say the least. My manager was like, ‘You’re like a viral sensation.’ And I’m like, ‘That sounds like an STD,’

The actress continued:

I have a couple of friends who don’t feel very warm towards it. They’re like, ‘Are you offended?’ They personally are offended by it saying like, ‘You can’t just choose to be gay. You should say something about all these women that are saying [they’re] turning gay or realizing [they’re] gay.’”

I think people are just saying that to be complimentary. I don’t think anyone’s doing it to be derogatory or to take away from what it really means to come out and identify as a different sexuality than what people will think you are.”

She added that people’s jokes showed that the world had moved on, observing:

I think people are just saying that to be complimentary. I don’t think anyone’s doing it to be derogatory or to take away from what it really means to come out and identify as a different sexuality than what people will think you are.

Maybe 10 years ago, people would watch someone onscreen that they would be attracted to, but they wouldn’t be able to make a funny meme and say, ‘Oh my God, I’m gay!’ because that would be so frowned upon.”

One of the main criticisms against the Rose crushes are that straight-identified women are simply trying to be “edgy,” as Madeleine Davies wrote for Jezebel. Rose, however, thinks that the so-called “trendy” nature of girl crushes are making society more accepting of LGBT people who are actually coming out.

I think it’s kind of brilliant because a lot of people can say it now who actually mean it and it not kind of be a big deal on them [to come out]. I, personally, think that the moments we try to nitpick who can and can’t say that they are genderqueer or gender-neutral or trans, or who’s gay or who’s bi — who are we to tell other people how they can live their lives and what they can tweet and what they can say? It’s really none of our business. I think we should let people go and say what they want to.”

Apparently, Ruby Rose is Turning all the Straight Girls Gay

In addition to acting and modelling, it would appear Ruby Rose is apparently practices sexual magic and sorcery in her spare time, and turning all the straight girls gay.

This ‘Orange Is The New Black’ Teaser Will Make Your Day (Video)

Tomorrow is the day that Orange is the New Black hits our Netflix screens. And in the much hyped lead up, Netflix has dropped another teaser for Season 3 – excited?

In the new season, the depressing realities of prison are the subtext—but often only the subtext—of storylines played for laughs.

Piper’s lover Alex Vause (Laura Prepon) is despondent about finding herself back in prison, only to have her agony assuaged by love and hate sex.

Even-tempered Poussey (Samira Wiley) is so bored and lonely that she’s on the verge of alcoholism, which is staved off by some hijinks involving a raccoon and a shenis.

Former evangelical meth head Pennsatucky (Taryn Manning) and the butch lesbian Big Boo (Lea DeLaria) are so ostracised from everyone else, they have turned to each other, birthing a charming odd couple friendship in which they riff about whether or not Pennsatucky needs to brush her new, porcelain teeth.

The new season has its share of bittersweet and even painful moments, but as new prisoner Lolly (Lori Petty) says upon arrival, “This place is amazing!” before adding, “We got off the van five minutes ago and we haven’t heard anybody scream. The walls are so clean!”

Friday can’t come soon enough.

Ruby Rose: “It Did My Head in for Years to be Described as a ‘Lesbian Model’ (and) ‘a Lesbian Actress’.”

There is more to Ruby Rose than her ‘Celesbian’ Status.

Talking to Net-a-porter.com’s digital magazine The Edit, Ruby Rose – who set to shine in season 3 of Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black – slammed the title she’s often given — “celesbian’’.

God, I hate that word. It did my head in for years to be described as a ‘lesbian model’ (and) ‘a lesbian actress’ but if they do that for the rest of my career, and it means the next generation doesn’t have to have their sexuality listed as part of their job description, then I’m happy with that.”

However, her newfound fame in the US means she has met and often mingles with various Hollywood types, which is has provided her comfort in a world where some gay people still live in fear.

(The group) is so supportive. When I grew up I thought I was the only person like me in the whole world and I would never have a support system

Now it’s like every lesbian I ever looked up to is my best friend.”

So, did Prepon identify with Piper, even though she had already felt connected to Alex?

It’s funny; when you look at both characters, I definitely identify more with Alex. When I talked to Jenji later, she told me, ‘You know, with Piper you’re worried she’s gonna get her a** kicked in prison. When I look at you, I’m not scared about you getting your a** kicked.’ Not to say that Taylor [Schilling] would get her ass kicked, ’cause I think she’d do okay. But Alex is Maleficent-like, sexy, sassy — she can definitely looks like can take care of herself. She’s not getting her a** kicked.”

Prepon added that being a part of a show comprised mostly of women has been a completely different experience for her.

There’s a lot of us. I normally hang out with guys so when I actually got this show, all my guy friends were like, ‘Wait, it’s you and a bunch of women? What are you going to do?’ And I’m like, ‘I don’t know!’ ”

Prepon’s character was absent for a lot of Season 2, as she was released from prison. But, going into Season 3, Alex and Piper will both be back at Litchfield, and new cast addition Ruby Rose is rumoured to come between the ladies.

Orange Is the New Black premieres June 12 on Netflix.

Back Behind Bars – Orange Is The New Black and the Ultimate Season 3 Sneak Peek (Videos)

As the third season arrives, it’s worth reflecting upon how far Orange Is The New Black has come.

The show is based on a best-selling memoir by Piper Kerman of the same name, and many of the broad plot details remain the same. We first meet Piper (Taylor Schilling), when she is in her early thirties. She is a white, upper middle-class, liberal arts graduate who runs her own successful business selling luxury toiletries, and has just got engaged to her boyfriend.

But there is a cloud on the horizon. A drug-trafficking offence from ten years ago has finally caught up with her, and she has been served a custodial sentence.

Quickly, a wonderfully rich and original world of character at Lichfield Penitentiary comes to the fore. There is a host of forceful, dynamic and complex women; damaged, devious, morally ambiguous, neither clear victims or villains. A large proportion of them, black, Latina, gay, are characterisations heretofore largely under-represented on mainstream television.

The show has wider social resonances too. It’s depictions of the endemic corruption inside the institution, and the many dehumanising privations, which compromise the women’s safety and security.

And the characters complex back-stories speak volumes too. Each character study is fleshed out with details about the particular familial, economic, and emotional conditions which have ultimately led to incarceration – and so we see lives unfolding and buckling under a litany of bad starts, desperate measures and questionable choices.

Netflix Releases First Glimpse of Ruby Rose in ‘Orange Is the New Black’, and she sounds Aussie (Video)

In a sneaky teaser, Netflix has given us a quick peek at their newest character to join Orange is the New Black.

In a fifteen-second clip, we see Australian actress, presenter and model, Ruby Rose in character as Stella Carlin in a heated conversation with Piper, played by Taylor Schilling.

This is Rose’s breakout role in the United States, and she was close to giving up the American acting dream when she scored the job.

Rose isn’t the only Aussie to be in the show, Sydney actress Yael Stone has been hiding behind the thick accent of the character Lorna Morello for the past two seasons.

Season 3 of the hit original series will be arriving on screens on June 12, via Netflix.

Spoiler Alert | Three Key Details Leaked at ‘Orange is the New Black’ Red-Carpet Premiere

Only a few weeks left before Orange is the New Black season 3 premieres on Netflix, cast and creators were out in force over the weekend at the at Netflix red-carpet premiere of the third season.

After the screening, the principal cast and creator Jenji Kohan stuck around for a Q&A at the Dramatist’s Guild of America. They discussed the premiere and the themes at play in the season to come, and dropped more than a few hints about what fans should expect.

Before we delve too hard into the spoilers, here is a quick recap of what we already know:

We found out last October that season three is going to be at least in part about an exploration of faith.

Orange is the New Black‘s book author and show consultant Piper Kiernan said in an interview.

One of the things that Jenji Kohan has said about season three already on record is that an exploration of faith is a big part of what she is planning and what they have scripted so far….[the new season] holds some really amazing stories and twists and turns.

And while the trailer shows a very disappointed Alex, “OITNB” season 3 updates reveal that it will certainly get hot in Litchfield as a steamy Alex and Piper scene is underway. The sex scene will not be anything new to fans of the show, but knowing how Alex and Piper have seesawed in their relationship, it will be something to watch out for, spoilers teased.

Australian actress / model Ruby Rose, will play a sultry inmate named Stella. Stella turns out to be a love interest for both Piper and Alex, so, if you thought that that particular drama wouldn’t return with a vengeance, think again.

OITNBS3_30SEPT14_WHILDEN_D0078.NEF

We also already know (and can celebrate the fact) that Jason Biggs is not returning to the show. Larry has long been the most-derided part of OitNB, and his departure brought cheers from all across the internet.

Pornstache, another character fans of the show most love to hate, is not going to be in season three, as actor Pablo Schreiber already signed to work on another show. Pornstache’s mom is going to be a character, though, and she’ll be played by Mary Steenburgen.

As far as new information, here’s what we found out at the DGA unveiling. According to Kohan,

[Season Three is] lighter than season two, it’s a season of faith, it’s a season of motherhood, it’s a progression of everyone’s stories. I think we get deeper into our characters and we meet people….It’s very important to me to play in both [comedy and drama] because I don’t think anything is all serious or all humorous. I remember watching dramas and thinking when there was no humor or no comic relief that they didn’t reflect any sort of reality because there’s no such thing as life without humor. (But) you need a dramatic spine to hold it together.

Expect to see more of four actors – Adrienne C. Moore (Cindy Hayes), Selenis Leyva (Gloria Mendoza), Nick Sandow (Joe Caputo) and Samira Wiley (Poussey Washington) – who were upper to regular during the past year. Season 3 goes upstream June 12,”

To the frustration of fans everywhere, Kohan did not state whether Vee lived or died at the end of season two. In fact, she only addressed the question with quiet smiles.

Orange is the New Black debuts at 12:01 on Friday, June 12.

What Does it Mean to be Gender Fluid?

For many people, the terms ‘gender’ is interchangeably. Both Miley Cyrus and Ruby Rose have spoken publicly how they about identifying as gender fluid. But what exactly is it and is it on the rise? If you’re not familiar with the term, gender fluidity refers to somebody viewing themselves as both male and female.

Some gender fluid people will alter their clothing depending on whether they feel more masculine or feminine while for others it’s a state of mind that they don’t outwardly express.

While you might have put Miley’s transition from girlie Hannah Montana to her current androgynous style down to fashion preference, but the child star has announced she doesn’t want to be boxed into one gender identity.

She recently told Out.

I didn’t want to be a boy … I kind of wanted to be nothing. I don’t relate to what people would say defines a girl or a boy, and I think that’s what I had to understand: Being a girl isn’t what I hate, it’s the box that I get put into.”

Meanwhile, Ruby Rose, soon to be star of Orange Is The New Black, shared a rare insight into being gender fluid in her short film Break Free, where she transitioned from an ultra feminine version of herself with long blonde hair to a masculine version in a suit.

The only reason it was a surprise was because gender fluidity doesn’t get talked about enough. Once the film went viral, the floodgate opened; to me, that said that this was something much bigger than I thought it was.”

Gender is all around us. It is actually taught to us from the moment we are born. Gender expectations and messages bombard us constantly. Upbringing, culture, peers, schools, community, media, and religion are some of the many influences that shape our understanding of this core aspect of self. How you learned and interacted with gender as a young child directly influences how you view the world today.

However, the diversity of gender is a normal part of the human experience, across cultures and throughout history.

Non-binary gender diversity exists all over the world, documented by countless historians and anthropologists. Examples of individuals living comfortably outside of typical male/female expectations and/or identities are found in every region of the globe.

The calabai, and calalai of Indonesia, two-spirit Native Americans, and the hijra of India all represent more complex understandings of gender than allowed for by a simplistic binary model.

Further, what might be considered gender-expansive in one period of history may become gender normative in another.

One need only examine trends related to men wearing earrings or women sporting tattoos to quickly see the malleability of social expectations about gender. Even the seemingly intractable “pink is for girls, blue is for boys” notions are relatively new. While there is some debate about the reasons why they reversed, what is well documented is that not until the mid-twentieth century were notions of pink for girls or blue for boys so firmly ensconced.

So, you can make the case that “pink is the new blue!”

Perhaps the most fundamental aspect of a person’s identity, gender deeply influences every part of their life.

In a society where this crucial aspect of self has been so narrowly defined and rigidly enforced, individuals who exists outside its norms face innumerable challenges.

Even those who vary only slightly from the norm can become targets of disapproval. Yet this does not have to be the case forever. Through a thoughtful consideration of the uniqueness and validity of every person’s experiences of self, we can develop greater acceptance for all.

Not only will this create greater inclusion for individuals who challenge the norms of gender, it will actually create space for all individuals to more fully explore and celebrate who they are.

Anyone who follows the cast on Instagram or Twitter will know they like hanging out socially and for a wild night, Stone says there are a few members you need to tag along with.
