Addictive Lesbian watching – This is the story of Piper Chapman, a woman in her thirties who is sentenced to fifteen months in prison after being convicted of a decade-old crime of transporting money for her drug-dealing girlfriend.

OITNB Writer Lauren Morelli Dishes the Dirt on the New Season and Ruby Rose

In an interview with Liz Feldman on her YouTube chat show This Just Out with Liz Feldman, OITNB writer Lauren Morelli opened up about what life is like behind the scenes on Orange Is The New Black and what we can expect from the new season, which hits Netflix in June.

Morelli, who realised she was gay while writing on the first season of OITNB, came out in a touching personal piece, entitled ‘While Writing for ‘Orange Is the New Black,’ I Realized I Am Gay‘.

While talking with Feldman, she talked about how difficult the coming out process was and revealed why she decided to come out publicly. She is now dating Samira Wiley, who plays Poussay on the show.

I hear that there’s a new lesbian character on the show, played by Ruby Rose… Is she as hot as she seems like she would be in person, is she gonna have sex on other women in the show and what can lesbians look forward to?”

Morelli responded

Yes, she’s as hot, yes… she definitely has sex on other people… Now I’m gonna get fired! Of course she’s having sex! I mean, she’s Ruby Rose! You don’t hire Ruby Rose and not have her have sex. That’s crazy!”

She also opened up about her relationship with Samira Wiley, who plays Poussay.

Will Piper and Alex Get Back Together in Orange is the New Black Season 3?

Things haven’t been so smooth for Orange is the New Black‘s leading couple, Piper and Alex. First, the two women reunited under terrible circumstances when they both happened to be in the same prison, then they hooked up in a church and were happy for all of two seconds, but then it was revealed that Alex was the reason that Piper ended up in the slammer in the first place.

Oh, and then there was also the thorny issue of Larry who Piper was still engaged to as she was falling for Alex again.

Alex-Piper-01

Roll on season two where Alex asked Piper to lie on the stand and when Piper did, Alex told the truth and ended up being released. Then Piper got revenge and Alex was thrown back into prison again for violating her parole and buying a gun (to protect herself against those she testified against) and it’s really up in the air as to whether or not these once lovebirds will get back together for good.

Over at Bustle, Kadeen Griffiths notes that quite a few things need to happen before #Pipex blesses us with their romance once more. For example, although they trotted the globe together and shacked up in palaces bought with drug money, they are very different people now who need to get to know each other and so they should probably date.

That’s not really conventional since there aren’t many places you can be romantic when guards are watching your every move, but it would be nice to see them on dates.

ruby-rose-oitnb-03

They also need to stop betraying each other since a) it’s not healthy for any relationship and b) it’s just plain mean and neither of them know where they stand.

And finally, they need to talk about the future because it’s not easy to make plans about moving in and getting married and having babies when you’re both doing jail time (Larry and Piper couldn’t even handle that when just one of them was in prison).

Plus, it’s not clear how much time either of them is doing so they need to come to terms with the possibility of being separated.

In Orange is the New Black season three, however, it might not be these things that keep Piper and Alex apart. As we saw in the new OITNB trailer, a new inmate played by Ruby Rose seems to have taken an interest in the two of them.

We already saw Piper and Alex’s mutual friend Nicky get between them (she hooked up with Alex not long after her and Piper split up) so it’s not so far fetched to think that the new character will divert their attention too.

No matter what happens, we’ll still be watching the show at the edge of our seats when Orange is the New Black returns in June.

Ruby Rose Sizzles in New OITNB Trailer

Yesterday, Netflix delighted fans around the world with a new trailer, which gave us first-look at Rose in her prison wear…

OITNBS3_21OCT14_WHILDEN_D0640.NEF

It’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance, but the split-second snippet, which shows Rose giving a flirty wink.

She plays inmate Selina Carlin, who becomes part of a love triangle between exes Piper (Taylor Schilling) and Alex (Laura Prepon).

Rose posted about the trailer on her Instagram feed, saying she’s “so glad” she “learnt how to wink from a young age”.

The trailer shows Alex returning to the fictional Litchfield Penitentiary, where a guard tells Piper, “the hot one is back”.

Lea Delaria Loses Weight After Diabetes Diagnosis

Comedian and actress, Lea Delaria, has lost 50 Pounds (22.7 Kilograms) after she was diagnosed with diabetes.

The Orange Is The New Black star said she started to feel sluggish as she shot season two of the hit female prison drama series last year (14), and it was only after she visited a doctor that she learned the cause of her problem.

I went through a year of going, ‘Why do I feel so bad?’… I’ve always been really energetic, but for a year I was feeling really weird, I didn’t know what was going on. Once we did the blood test and we understood what was going on, it was great.

And now I’ve got my energy back. I feel like me and everything is great… I lost 50 pounds since September. I lost 25 pounds since the SAG Awards (in January) – it’s crazy!”

DeLaria reveals she had to reduce carbohydrates and sugar in her diet to help control the type two diabetes, and the lifestyle change, in addition to her medication, has helped her slim down dramatically.

Lea DeLaria Emmys 03

However, the actress admits her weight loss journey hasn’t been fun as the diabetes medication frequently makes her feel sick.

One: I have no appetite. Two: When I finally do get an appetite, I take two bites of it. Three: Anything I eat comes right out again because of the medication. My fiancee is like, ‘You’re living my dream!’ It ain’t my dream (sic) – I’d rather eat a steak, let’s be honest.”

DeLaria became engaged to Chelsea Fairless in February (15).

‘Orange Is the New Black’ stars Taylor Schilling and Uzo Aduba Discuss the Show and Season 3

Orange Is the New Black stars Taylor Schilling and Uzo Aduba have spoken to Pop Sugar’s Allie Merriam about the coolest things that have happened to them since starring in the show.

The two have been on a whirlwind adventure since their hit show launched on Netflix in 2013, leading them to some truly surprising situations, including one with President Obama.

Sadly, they are not giving too much away about the next season.

Schilling was very tight-lipped as far as revealing spoilers for season 3, simply saying that it picks up “right where we left off.”

OITNB-Uzo-Aduba-Taylor-Schilling

The third season is set to premiere June 12.

WTF, Taylor Schilling Has Apparently Switched Teams?

According to online sources, Orange Is The New Black star Taylor Schilling has apparently ‘switched teams’, and is now in a lesbian relationship with Portlandia co-creator Carrie Brownstein.

There have been rumours swirling for a while now, especially after Schilling was spotted by gig goers in London and Glasgow supporting Brownstein on tour.

taylor-schilling

However, according to Star Magazine, Schilling is officially dating Brownstein, and the ladies have gone public with their relationship, with an inside source dishing that there has “always been a spark” between Schilling and Brownstein.

taylor-schilling-03

“Orange Is The New Black star Taylor Schilling has taken a cue from her on-screen character and is no dating a woman. Taylor has been getting cozy with 40 year old Portlandia cocreator Carrie Brownstein. The pair, who have been friends for a while, recently took things to the next level and friends say that they couldn’t be happier. And the couple are wasting no time hiding their newfound love. Taylor was most recently spotted visiting Carrie in Portland, Oregon on March 15th, where fans spotted them out and about.”

So why the hell are we only just noticing? Autostraddle did posted a piece recently discussing the matter:

“Questions have been pouring in lately about these two, mostly because it flew under the goddamn radar for so long. While the universe exploded over the revelation that OITNB’s Samira Wiley was dating one of the shows writers, Taylor Schilling just strutted right into black-tie events on Carrie Brownstein’s arm, cool as a cucumber…”

taylor-schilling-01

Hmmmm - could this be the classic case of lesbian/bi women not being allowed to hang out with straight girls without rumours flying, or is this the real deal?

taylor-schilling-02

OITNB writer Lauren Morelli, filed for divorce from her husband, and last year announced that working on the show helped her realise that she is actually a lesbian.

So, do you think that Taylor and Carrie Brownstein make a cute couple?

Cast of ‘Orange Is The New Black’ Give new member Ruby Rose the nod of approval

The cast of Orange Is The New Black have given new member Ruby Rose the nod of approval.

Yael Stone who plays Morello and Uzo Aduba who plays Suzanne ‘Crazy Eyes’ are currently in Australia for the launch of Netflix and were full of praise for the Aussie model and DJ turned actor, who will play Stella Carlin in the hit US drama series.

morello-suzanne-r

Fellow Australian actor Stone, said the Aussie actor, who plays Stella Carlin in the hit US drama series, was “beautiful inside and out.”

“Ruby Rose is in the big house. Even in prison, she is gorgeous. The face of Maybelline is in jail!”

Yael Stone

Rose has caused quite the sensation since news spread of her joining the popular Netflix series. Rose plays Stella, a new inmate who will just happen to be the love interest for the shows lead characters, Piper and Alex.

Breaking free- Ruby Rose 03

“She does provide a bit of spice with those pillowy lips, it’s a really exciting addition because she’s Australian. Our voices don’t really appear internationally on television unless we’re pretending to be somebody else, so it is going to be really refreshing and really nice to see that story with that different flavour from an Australian perspective.”

Yael Stone

OITNB-03

Rose, a model, television presenter and DJ, has joined the third season of the popular US prison drama, which airs on Netflix from June 12, playing Stella, an inmate who will be introduced as a romantic interest for the show’s two leads.

Aduba said of Rose:

“Ruby has done a wonderful job in joining the family. She’s beautiful, a wonderful, lovely person. Our show is family, regardless of previous credentials.”

‘Orange is the New Black’ Writer Lauren Morelli Speaks at Crossroads Conference

If you’re a fan of hit Netflix drama Orange is the New Black then you likely saw the OITNB story that made headlines everywhere last year.

No, not the headlines saying that season two was hilarious and brilliant (although it was, very much so) but that one of the show’s writers, Lauren Morelli, had discovered her sexuality whilst working on the show and so she divorced her husband and came out as gay instead.

With OITNB’s many queer pairings and the way that LGBT women are featured as real, relatable people instead of one dimensional tokens it was little surprise that the show had helped someone discover their identity.

Also: Our Wish List For Season 3 of ‘Orange Is the New Black’

Lauren-Morelli-Speaks-Crossroads-Conference-02

Now, Morelli is making headlines for having spoken at the Crossroads women’s conference in Pittsburgh. The event, which took place on the 10th of March, aimed to empower and uplift women by featuring relatable speakers who can talk about their stories.

Morelli says that women often choose to go it alone and feel as though they are the only ones in the world with that problem but “the idea of focusing a conference on navigating a crossroads is so interesting, because it’s an idea that’s so universal. I learned so much about that the last couple of years and what a difference it can make to just tell your story, to start sharing it.”

Heather Arnet, CEO of the Women and Girls’ Foundation (one of the event’s sponsors) stresses that the Crossroads’ timing was intentional. The event took place slap bang in the middle of Women’s History Month (International Women’s Day was on March 8th), a month that has already been used to bring to light the inequalities that women in this world face.

Arnet explains:

“We have a wonderful leadership program called Girl Gov for young girls, and we wondered, ‘Why don’t we have something like this for women? This conference is set up for pretty much any woman to attend, because we’ll be focused on the ways personal and professional lives of women intersect.”

Lauren-Morelli-Speaks-Crossroads-Conference-04

As part of that focus, the event addressed topics such as gender, sexuality and mental health as well as more business-like themes, for those looking to get ahead in their careers. Few conferences address this at all and so it’s no wonder that Tara Simmons, the Women and Girls’ Foundation’s vice president says that although “It’s a one-day conference” it’s certainly not just “a one-day thing”.

Our Wish List For Season 3 of ‘Orange Is the New Black’

We’re less than three months away from the third season of Orange Is the New Black, and while the show’s creators are keep tight lipped on exactly what’s in store for the ladies of Litchfield this year, we can think of a few things that we’d like to see.

Big Boo backstory

Why haven’t we gotten Big Boo’s (Lea DeLaria) backstory yet? DeLaria has said she already knows what Boo’s origin story is (in fact, she was given her character’s backstory as soon as she signed on for the role), so why are the fans still being kept in the dark?

OITNB-05

We could also stand to see a little more from characters like Flaca (Marisol Gonzales) and Maritza (Diane Guerrero). Their friendly kiss last year was one of the sweetest scenes of the season, yet we barely know them. Can we get a little more information beyond the fact that Flaca loves The Smiths and Maritza has a kid?

More cell action from Alex and Piper

We were disappointed to see Alex on the sidelines in most of season 2, and there was absolutely no opportunity for Alex and Piper to hook-up, so here’s looking at you, season 3 – especially now Alex is back in prison.

Last season, we did see plenty of flashbacks  though, and was luck to a scene where Alex went down on Piper, then just as Piper is about to “take the plunge,” Alex’s crazy semi-girlfriend storms in and starts beating Piper up. Not our ideal end to this scene, so this season OINTB owes us big.

Also with the introduction of Ruby Rose’s new character Stella now in the mix – sparks should fly.

Orange-Is-the-New-Black-cellmate-01

End the Vee vs Red storyline

The conflict between Vee (Lorraine Toussaint) and Red (Kate Mulgrew) clogged up Season 2 like a deadweight.

However, now that Vee out of the picture, the can move on nicely. While Vee’s death will surely have huge effects on Taystee (Danielle Brooks) and Crazy Eyes (Uzo Aduba), we hope their mourning is quick so we finally can drop her character for good.

It’s never a good sign when a show’s entire sophomore season revolves around a new character who wasn’t even referenced in the first, so we’d like to see the focus return to some of our old favorites.

A little less Red

In Season 1, Red butted heads with Pornstache over her smuggling, tortured Piper (Taylor Schilling), hunted the Chicken and lost all her allies. In Season 2, she became Piper’s roommate, joined the Golden Girls, began smuggling again, was lied to about her family business, and had a seemingly never-ending feud with Vee.

OITNB-03

That is a lot for one character on this show – especially when there are so many inmates who barely get any screen time. Here’s hoping Red takes a backseat this season, because as much as we love Kate Mulgrew, it’s time to give the other girls a shot.

A little more Sophia

Sophia (Laverne Cox) was one of OITNB’s original breakout characters, and yet she was almost entirely absent throughout Season 2. Season 1’s “Lesbian Request Denied” proved that Cox can handle drama as well as comedy, so let her show off her skills! Let’s check back in with Sophia’s family, especially her son Michael, but also see her get more involved in the current-day plots.

Sophia has mentioned a rivalry with Danita, the other Litchfield hairdresser – so show us more.

A lot more naked Poussey

OITNB-01

In season two we got to see Poussey (Samira Wiley) and her German Girlfriend flashback. It was the scene that gave us a real personal (in several ways) look into Poussey’s life that we hadn’t had before. We saw a tender, loving, expressive side of this passionate character in an entirely new light, framed by a surprisingly honest sex scene that really crushed our souls when we remembered this show isn’t exactly about characters whose lives turned out splendidly. We’ve loved getting to know Poussey, and in next season we demand to see more, especially after the beating she took last season.

Daya finally gives birth

Enough with the Daya (Dascha Polanco) pregnancy storyline. Two seasons in, and no baby – this has to be the longest human gestational period ever. Here’s hoping Season 3 covers several months rather than a couple of weeks, and Bennett (Matt McGorry) and Daya finally get to see their baby.

And while we’re at it, the truth also needs to come out about the baby’s real parentage. Though we bet the appearance of Pornstache’s mother (Mary Steenburgen) might help speed that along.

Must Watch | New Video From the ‘Orange Is The New Black’ Team

Get excited ladies, as it’s only a matter of months until Orange Is The New Black is back on your screens: season three will be released on Netflix on June 12th 2015.

But to wet our appetites the cast have release a new video, where they sing their version of Don’t Talk To Me by Tre Coast ft. Lycia Faith, which is inspired by Leanne’s version of the song featured in Season 1.

“Orange Is the New Black” is still a couple months away from being aired, but spoilers about the show’s new plot keep on surfacing left and right.

Recently, series writer Lauren Morelli spoke with the Pittsburgh City Paper, and according to Morelli, the new season of OINTB will feature a lighter theme compared to season 2.

“Season two was really dark and I think we really were excited about playing with this antagonist of Vee and seeing what that force would do to the characters we started to love over a season. I think season three is sort of a natural rebound from that darkness. Some of the joy comes back to Litchfield that was lost.”

Lauren Morelli

Also, the third season is expected to provide the answers to some questions that were left hanging in season 2. Fans would like to know what is next for Daya (Dascha Polanco) after she gives birth, Caputo’s (Nick Sandow) quest to become a warden, as well as Piper’s (Taylor Schilling) search for true love.

This is especially true for Piper and Alex’s (Laura Prepon) relationship. In an interview with The Daily Mail, Prepon talked about how the couple will deal with their feelings for each other next season.

“The thing that’s so interesting about Alex and Piper is that they totally love each other, but they also look out for themselves.

It’s this constant power struggle between the two of them. And then at the end of Season Two, Piper does a major power play. And you wonder, is it because she totally loves this girl, or is it because she’s just getting her back?”

Laura Prepon

So excited….

HRC Awards Out ‘Orange is the New Black’ Actress Samira Wiley With Visibility Award

The Human Rights Campaign awarded openly Orange is the New Black actress Samira Wiley with its Visibility Award last weekend during HRC’s 2015 North Carolina Gala. Known for her role as inmate Poussey Washington, Wiley reflected on her public image and coming out experience at the gala.

“I believe that being visible truly is a huge part of the battle. Some days it isn’t about moving mountains, but rather about waking up every day and choosing to live my truth as authentically as I am able. It is about holding my girlfriend’s hand when I walk down the street. It’s about doing something as small as posting a picture on Instagram that might teach a queer teenage girl in a small town that she’s going to have a beautiful life too. That it’s possible, that anything is possible. It’s about emanating pride and love rather than shame, and hate.”

Web Series ‘Kittens in a Cage’ Is a Superb Alternative to OITNB

Patiently awaiting for Orange is the New Black‘s return? The third season of Netflix’s hit prison drama/comedy has finished filming but with no release date for it confirmed, we may be waiting a while for Alex, Piper, Nicky, Big Boo and the rest of the inmates to grace our screens once more.

Welcome Kittens in a Cage with open arms then as this new web series will be able to tide you over until Orange is the New Black returns – and this show may be even gayer than the Netflix hit too.

Set in the 1950s, Kittens in a Cage follows the story of June Matilda Butler’s time in the slammer as she’s sentenced to 10-12 years in Marquetta State Prison for robbing a bank. With all that time to ponder the rights and wrongs of her actions, June will also have plenty of time to shack up with other inmates or shake down her enemies.

Sadly, June’s main love interest Vickie (who is also her cellmate, just to complicate things) will have to try her hardest to win June over as another inmate, Jeanine is also vying for her affections.

Vickie tells Jeanine that “Junie ain’t for sale” and Jeanine even tries to steer June away from Vickie but as June is soon saying that her “heart’s all swole up for Vickie” you know which law-breaking couple you’ll be rooting for in the end.

You may also find yourself rooting for the other inmates too as, similar to OITNB, there are flashbacks when you find out just what landed June and her fellow inmates behind bars. Even when the crimes are so, so bad, you can’t help yourself from ignoring your moral compass for a second just to appreciate these flawed yet brilliant characters. Not every show gets that right and shows about criminals have more trouble pulling it off than most, so the fact that Kittens in a Cage is packed with lovable inmates is a real triumph.

You don’t have a great deal of time to fall for them all though as Kittens in a Cage‘s seven episodes only run about 20 minutes long, but with a great premise, a great cast (special guests include Joel McHale and Felicia Day) and enough queer content to set your heart aflutter, it’s absolutely worth it. You can rent all seven episodes of Kitten in a Cage for a week for $10.99 or buy them for $15.99 from TV 4 and Vimeo on Demand.

Visit the Kittens in a Cage website here.

Samira Wiley Discusses ‘Orange is the New Black’ Season 3 And Coming Out To Family

Samira Wiley made her way into our lives playing inmate Poussey Washington, the moral compass among the inmates of Orange is the New Black.

In a recent interview with Fox she touched base on Season 3 of Orange is the New Black, kissing co-star Danielle Brooks, and coming out to her parents.

Yay! Larry Won’t Be In Season 3 Of ‘Orange Is The New Black’

Netflix prison drama/comedy Orange is the New Black has captivated its queer female audience right from the off. Not only is the main character (Piper) a bisexual woman, but plenty of her inmates are queer women too and they frequently hook up, make out and profess their feelings about one another.

It’s hilarious and a real tearjerker all at once and having marathoned seasons one and two almost immediately after they were released (god bless Netflix’s ability to let us binge watch), we’re all patiently awaiting what will happen next. What we’re less keen to hear about however, is Larry, Piper’s male love interest.

More: Spoiler Alert | More ‘Orange Is the New Black’ Season 3 News

However, there’s good news all round! Last season Piper and Larry tried to make it work, but he was finally done with her struggling to deal with the fact that she’d cheated on him with her drug dealing ex (Alex) who was an inmate with her in prison. After ditching Piper, he proceeded to shack up with Piper’s married best friend Penny, promptly boring us all to death.

oitn-larry

Jason Biggs, the actor who plays Larry has now confirmed that Larry won’t be featured in season three at all.

Speaking to Daily News, Biggs explains that:

“They’re not focusing on Larry at the moment. Larry will not be in season 3. But there’s always a possibility he can come back.”

Many viewers will agree that the show has taken Larry as far as he can go, plot wise. He was only really relevant as he was Piper’s love interest but now that she and Alex are sorting things out (or not sorting those things out, you never really know with those two) there is no reason for Larry to stick around.

oitnb-larry-02

Larry also joins (now deceased) bully Dee and cancer patient Miss Rosa (the woman who escaped from prison and ran Dee over) in characters who are leaving the show ahead of next season

The thorn in Piper and Alex’s side will, however, be replaced with a new inmate, played by Ruby Rose. There’s no word on exactly what antics she’ll get up to, but it’s said that she’ll capture the attention of both women and, given the fact that women are attracted to Piper and Alex like bees to sweet, sweet pollen, there’s potential for another love triangle to pop up here.

Black Cindy

Lots of characters are getting meatier roles in the next season of Orange is the New Black. One of these women will be Black Cindy (Adrienne C. Moore). She’s mostly been in the background, cracking jokes, and giving excellent fighting advice. Her character has been little more than just a side note in the previous seasons. However, last season we did see some of her backstory, learning that she was a TSA agent and she also had a daughter that her mother was raising, but the show has not given any information as to what exactly happened that landed her in jail.

black-cindy

With her stepping to forefront, we may find out exactly what took place to land her in her orange jumpsuit. The easy idea is that she did something as a TSA agent that landed her behind bars. However, from the glimpses of her personal life that we saw, it is also possible that she became wrapped up in something criminal with her social circle.

Piper and Alex

According to one source, Piper and Alex’ relationship will be on the rocks, not that it is going smoothly in the recent season.

But this time, a new hot inmate will be involved. Ruby Rose, the captivating face behind Maybelline, will join the cast of Orange is the New Black. And as some spoilers reveal, she will be a threat to Piper and Alex as both will be swooned by her looks.

Ruby Rose will play the character of Stella. Let’s see what chaos Stella will bring to the whole show.

Taystee

Here are some juices that you need to know about Orange is the New Black Season 3. Based from one source, Taystee (Danielle Brooks) might have a love interest in the next season. We can’t wait to see the romantic story behind it. But with the pain she is feeling, will it push through?

Its official, Orange is the New Black’s Lea DeLaria Is Getting Married

Its official, Orange is the New Black’s Lea DeLaria is off the market. The actress, singer and comedienne, made the announcement Friday on her Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages that she is marrying longtime girlfriend Chelsea Fairless.

Lea-DeLaria-enagement-02

The announcement was accompanied by an altered photo of DeLaria and Fairless standing beside Michael Jackson and Elizabeth Taylor (the original image was from Liza Minnelli and David Gest’s 2002 wedding).

Lea-DeLaria-enagement-03

“Despite their concerns about the patriarchal confines of marriage, actor / singer Lea DeLaria & editrix Chelsea Fairless of Brooklyn, New York are pleased to announce their engagement. No date has been set for the impending nuptials but it’s safe to say that it will be the event of the season, or, a total shit show.”

Lea DeLaria

The actress also confirmed that Jesse Tyler Ferguson will be the best man, while Sandra Bernhard will officiate the wedding.

DeLaria, who now has had number stage and screen appearances, including her standout role of prison inmate Big Boo in the hit Netflix series, will also be honored in Chicago on Valentine’s Day with the Equality Illinois Freedom Award.

‘Orange Is The New Black’ Character Inspired By Real-Life Peace Activist

Sister Ingalls, the TV nun on Orange is the New Black, was inspired by real-life peace activist, Sister Ardeth Platte, who served on the Saginaw City Council and spent time behind bars.

Sister-Ingalls-01

In the late ’80s, Platte was a frequent visitor outside the former Paul B. Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Oscoda, where the nun led protests against nuclear weapons. After her arrest and conviction in Colorado, Platte served time alongside Kerman. As Kerman wrote, “only the nun got more mail than me.”

Ardeth-Platte-02

“I never tied myself to a flagpole. I go into nuclear weapons sites to pray, to vigil, to expose what is there, to try to speak my peace about total abolition of nuclear weapons.”

Sister Ardeth Platte

Orange Is the New Black is based on the book of the same name about Piper Kerman’s experiences in a Connecticut women’s prison. The autobiography details how Kerman, through a brief relationship with an international drug runner, became a mule, a past that caught up to her years after she’d found a more productive use for her talents.

“On my first day in the Camp someone had helpfully informed me that there was a nun there — in my side-smacked daze, I vaguely assumed they meant a nun who had chosen to live among prisoners. I was correct, sort of.

Sister Ardeth Platte was a political prisoner, one of several nuns who are peace activists and served long federal sentences for trespassing in a nonviolent protest at a Minuteman II missile silo in Colorado.”

Piper Kerman

The sister has read Kerman’s book, in which she appears a handful of times. However she has chosen not to watch the TV show, believing it takes too many liberties compared to her real-story.

“There’s too much license with it. It probably has too much license in it for me, though I know a lot of people say, ‘It really has taught me a lot.'”

Sister Ardeth Platte

Platte, now 78, has a day job, and that’s her mission to promote nuclear disarmament.

‘Orange is the New Black’ Release Date Set And Some Spoilers to Keep All Happy(ish) Until Then

So we have a idea of when next sensational season of Orange is the New Black is out – the summer of 2015. However, what can we expect for the ladies of Litchfield.

New faces

Australian model Ruby Rose has also been confirmed as one of the newest cast members. She will play inmate Stella Carlin, an interesting figure who will catch the attention of the other inmates, including the main characters Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) and Alex Vause (Laura Prepon).

ruby-rose-05

“Grab yourself a copy of U.S ELLE MAGAZINE and read about my new role on a small unheard of series called Orange Is The New Black. Haha I am very excited and honored to be named one of the Magazine’s fresh faces on TV to watch in 2015.”

Ruby Rose

Ruby will join other new cast members Mary Steenburgen, Blair Brown and Mike Birbiglia.

However, a few regulars won’t be returning to Orange is the New Black, including Jason Biggs (Larry Bloom) and Pablo Schreiber (Mendez). Rumors are also circulating that Diane Guerrero won’t be reprising her role as Maritza Ramos.

Expanding Roles

Fans are also going to be happy with a number of the cast being promoted to series regulars like Samira Wiley, Adrienne Moore, Yael Stone and Dascha Polanco.

Samira Wiley, who plays Poussey, will have a larger role. In Season 2 Poussey alienated herself from the other girls after her disagreement with Vee (Lorraine Toussaint) on how she was running things.

Samira-Wiley-02

Black Cindy (Adrienne Moore) will also have an expanded role in Season 3. Last season, viewers learned some of her back story that had to do with her mother and daughter. In Season 3, fans may finally figure out why she is in jail.

Moreover, fans of Crazy Eyes should be happy to know that she will be back better than ever come season 3. She was a big emotional mess in the previous season and might be seeking redemption this time around.

Adrienne-Moore-01

Storyline

The show’s co-creator, Jenji Kohan, said the theme of the third season of Orange is the New Black will be “faith.” It has also been leaked that season 3 will have more violence than the previous seasons, and some more spicy sex scenes — including one between the lead protagonist Piper and her ex-girlfriend Alex.

Despite not having a specific date for Season 3, Netflix confirmed that the ladies of Litchfield Penitentiary will be coming back in the summer.

Lea DeLaria | Best Dressed Butch And Winner At The SAG Awards

At this Sunday’s SAG Awards, the OITNB team took home the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, but what was so great about this award is the fact the team emphasize the importance of diversity on-screen.

DeLaria is a s diverse as they get on the hollywood scene, but that is why we love her. Especially the way she represents our community.

Always stunning in suit, with her beautiful girlfriend by her side, DeLaria does not shy her queerness from the camera.

SAG-AFTRA-18

She is open and frank about who she is, and projects this with such confidence that we can’t help but smile.

SAG-AFTRA-19

In a past interview with the UK paper the Independent, she said about her style

“There is a ceiling that allows you to be a certain kind of gay. I’m not a lapdog cut person and I won’t tow the party line. People don’t want you to rock the boat. Even the modern queer movement have a problem with that. When you look like me, you want to act in a certain way.

There are two types of lesbians or dykes – the type that go to the Emmys wearing a tuxedo but don’t wear the bow tie, and those that do – the unapologetically butch.”

Lea DeLaria

SAG-AFTRA-16

“Being butch is still a dirty little secret, but it’s how some of us are. We can’t forget where we came from. We need to put a positive face on it and it all comes from this international homophobia, that are only certain things are good; that you can’t be that type of lesbian.

It’s important for me to communicate that there’s nothing bad about being gay.”

Orange Is The New Black – the Lost Auditions

All we can say is watch Hart’s amazing Orange Is The New Black – the Lost Auditions parody, and smile the rest of the day. Brilliant!

Hart is a very out-spoken comedian, creating comedy that will have your sides tickling. Coming from the lesbian side of the LGBT community, her humor is the most RANDOM category that you will ever stumble upon.

Music, sketches, serious topics, and comedy are all things you can find right here on the HARTBEAT channel.

Sneak Peek at Ruby Rose on the Set of Orange is the New Black

Ruby Rose has kindly given us all a sneak peek of her behind the scenes of Orange is the New Black. The actress will join the cast as the sexy and sarcastic Stella Carlin, who will be the object of affection for two of the show’s other inmates, Piper and Alex – WOW!

Ruby posted a selfie on Instagram showing her with one arm around Emmy Award Winner Uzo Aduba, who plays Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren. Another picture shows her dressed in the show’s beige prison uniform beside a dressing-room marked with her name.

Awards Season: LGBT Visibility and 72nd Golden Globe Awards

At this year 72nd Golden Globes the discussion was on LGBT visibility, and the world beginning to see some clear mainstream recognition to first-rate LGBT films, TV shows, characters and performers.

We had ‘Transparent’, Amazon Prime’s groundbreaking new series about a middle-aged trans woman and her unconventional family. HBO’s adaptation of ‘The Normal Heart’ nominated for Best TV Movie, and nods for co-stars Mark Ruffalo and Matt Bomer. The ‘Imitation Game’, which starred Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley in the biopic film about gay codebreaker Alan Turing, earned a bevy of nominations. Then there is ‘Pride’, the indie about queer activists who aligned with striking coal miners in 1980s England – which had already snagged honors at Cannes and the British Independent Film Awards.

Not too mention the nominees in the television categories reflect the growing LGBT inclusivity: ‘Orange Is the New Black’ got a fair share of nods, including for stars Taylor Schilling (Piper Chapman) and Uzo Aduba (Crazy Eyes). Kevin Spacey scored a nomination as  manipulative bisexual politician Francis ‘Underwood in House of Cards’, and gay faves like ‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ also made the cut.

But how did our queer stories fair?

Well, Matt Bomer won a best supporting actor award for ‘The Normal Heart’. Bomer gave a lovely speech thanking his kids and husband Simon Halls.

“To my husband Simon Halls and our three kids… Thank you for putting up with me when I was 130 pounds and really grumpy when you ate pizza in front of me.”

Matt Bomer

Kevin Spacey was awarded Best Actor in a Television Show, but managed to drop F-bomb during his acceptance speech.

‘This is the eighth time I’ve been nominated – I can’t f***ing believe I won!’

Kevin Spacey

This was Spacey’s first Golden Globe win despite previously being nominated eight times; included being nominated for the same role in the Netflix series last year, as well as being nominated for his portrayal of sexually frustrated husband Lester Burnham in American Beauty.

‘Transparent’ was named the Best TV Comedy, and Jeffrey Tambor was named Best Actor in a TV Comedy for his role playing a transgender mother. Creator Jill Soloway thanked her own trans-parent for coming out and inspiring her.

golden-globes

She also dedicated the award to Leelah Alcorn and other transgender youth struggling for acceptance.

“This award is dedicated to the memory of Leelah Alcorn … And I just want to thank you for coming out. Maybe we’ll teach the world something about authenticity, and truth, and love…. to love.”

Jill Soloway

Despite five nominations ‘The Imitation Game’ disappointed at Golden Globes coming away with nothing. ‘Pride’ also failed to feature, and Uzo Aduba and Taylor Schilling were disappointed in the TV category.

So all in all, it was a mixed night for LGBT visibility, but the media hype was very postive.
