Eeek… The First Time You See Your Ex After A Breakup

So, you haven’t seen your ex girlfriend since your breakup and now she’s asked you to meet up. You happily(ish) oblige… You’re excited, yet nervous – full of hope, and at the same time, weary of what might happen. You’ll want to kick them and screw them (grab the body that doesn’t belong to you anymore), and any conversation you have will feel like nails on a chalkboard.

You’ll say the words “Good. Really Good. Jobs. Work. Weather,” and they will not mean a thing to you, because when you’re having a conversation and both parties know it’s BS, a thickness develops with each and every single word.

Sadly most of us have been there, so great news we’re not alone in this.

Lesbians Are Less Concerned About What Their Partners Wear Than Straight Women

According to a survey by British retailer Littlewoods, lesbians are less concerned about what their partners wear than straight women.

The survey showed 16% of women look to change their new girlfriend’s wardrobe – compared with almost 20% of women with a new boyfriend.

Around 28% straight women with a husband or long-term boyfriend confessed to making changes to his look.

However, only 16% of lesbians and bisexual women with a wife or long-term girlfriend made changes, and from this 25 to 34-year-olds were the biggest fashion gurus in a relationship and most likely to choose what their wife or girlfriend wore.

For those who do change their own style to please their partner, two thirds said they do it because they want their lover to find them as attractive as possible.

So the big questions are – would you change your style for your partner, new or old? Or would you expect them to make changes if you weren’t happy?

Season 5 of Game Of Thrones Is Coming And There is Hint of Lesbian Romance In The Air

Season 5 is coming, and the Game Of Thrones crew have shared a new teaser.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rwzkq-Mm1Ao

Though the teasers is cryptic, we have heard a few things about the upcoming season.

Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and her right hand maid Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel) are set to get even ‘closer’ in season 5, and certain fan theories have hinted at a possible sexual attraction between the two.

game-thrones-02

Missandei has been a mainstay on the show since Season 3 when she was introduced as an enslaved translator, Daenery then sets free. Through the last two seasons, Missandei’s importance has increased as her role as one of Daenerys’ confidantes has grown.

Season 4 also introduced some sexual tension between the character and the soldier Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson), and Missandei and Daenerys spoke candidly about it with each other.

Whether or not Daenerys starts a lesbian romance with Missandei, remains to be seen, but fans can definitely expect several new twists which are not quite in line with the books.

What else to expect from Season 5?

Tomboy favourite, Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), is also set for big changes. If the show flows George RR Martin’s storyline, Arya will soon join famous assassin’s group the Faceless Men in foreign city Braavos, meaning her kill count is set to increase.

game-thrones-03

Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow, has hinted that he will have a major storyline in the upcoming Season. If that’s indeed the case, fans of the actor can rest easy considering that killing off major characters is a speciality of this show. The last season ended with Snow assuming a more central role after the epic Battle of Castle Black. It remains to be seen how things now unfold for this (one of the few) remaining member of the Stark house.

game-thrones-04

There is also a batch of new characters and new land – the Kingdom of Dorne – being introduced, This includes the Sand Snakes, who are the daughters of Oberyn Martell. They’re sure to stir up trouble in Westeros in the wake of their dad’s death. The eldest of the Sand Snakes, Obara, will be portrayed by New Zealand actress Keisha Castle-Hughes.

At age 13 my mother knew I wasn’t straight
she didn’t understand but she had so much to say
she sat me on the couch looked me straight in my face
and said you’ll burn in hell or probably die of AIDS
it’s funny now but at 13 it was pain
to be almost sure of who you are and have it ripped away
and i’m sorry if it’s too real for some of you to fathom
but hate for who you love is not exactly what you’d imagine
and i guess it was disastrous
cause everything that happened afterwards was just madness
locked away for two years to keep me on the inside
because she’d rather see a part of me die than me thrive
and it’s tougher when it’s something you can’t deny
and ignorance teaches us it’s something that you decide
you’re driven by your choice is an optical illusion
here’s to understanding that it’s not always confusion

Coach Shannon Beiste Shares His Decision to Transition in Glee’s New in Groundbreaking Storyline

Fox’s Glee has been no stranger to LGB storylines, and but in a new episode they look to finally cover the T.

In a new episode, viewers of the series learned William McKinley High School’s football coach Shannon Beiste, played by three-time Emmy nominee Dot Marie Jones, is transitioning from female to male.

The football coach shared with school principal Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) and assistant football coach Sam Evans (Chord Overstreet) that he has gender dysphoria – the formal diagnosis used by psychologists and physicians to describe people who identify as transgender.

Dot-Marie-Jones-Coach-Beiste

In a moving monologue, Beiste explained that her transition wasn’t about who she wanted to go to bed with but who she wanted to go to bed as. She then explained that she’d be having surgery to remove her breasts and begin taking testosterone as Glee kicked off a story that will see her character over the course of the season see Shannon become Sheldon.

“I’ve felt like this my whole life. Growing up I was really confused – I thought I was just a tomboy. No matter what I did, I never felt at home in my own skin. I never felt like my body matched who I was in the inside. I’ve got to do this for my own peace of mind, I’ve got to get my body in alignment with how I see myself.”

Sylvester, naturally, gets a few zingers in: ‘When you think about it, it’s not that big of a stretch.’

But even the normally heartless Sylvester shows she has a heart when she tells Beiste that his job will be waiting for her.

Last Year Their Photo Went Viral, This Year They Star In New Commercial Nikon’s #IamGenerationImage

Last year, Kordale and Kaleb were shocked when a photo of them doing their daughters’ hair went viral. The responses to the photo were both positive and negative, with a good helping of racism and homophobia.

kordale-and-kaleb-01

“What happened was, we were in the bathroom doing the girls hair and I said, ‘oh let me take a picture.’ It was simple, innocent picture… and then next thing you know it went viral. I’m still amazed today.”

Kordale

Today, the couple and their three children are starring in a heartwarming commercial as part of Nikon’s #IamGenerationImage campaign.

In the video Kaleb says…

“The comments were a trip. It didn’t make me feel any way because I know they don’t know what we go through. I know they don’t know our children. They don’t know our lifestyles, they don’t know how we live. A picture is so much more than a thousand words.

I think this camera, as we grow and as the family grows, will better be able to explain to everybody what type of family we are. We as parents bring kids into the world and we have to guide them to be better people than we are, and we want them to be better people than we are. We want them to succeed and do things that we weren’t able to do. Those kids have our heart.”

Fighting For Visibility in the Lesbian Community

As we all know, there are a lot of stereotypes about the way queer women are “supposed” to look. Yep – short hair, jeans, flannel shirts. More often, the lesbian norm is often represented as masculine; and while that is a perfectly valid form of expression, the normalization of this image can lead to the erasure of queer women who don’t present this way.

Listen to this poem by Joy Young recalling how a femme friend of theirs had to fight for visibility in the queer community.

Openly Gay Co-host Sara Gilbert Speaks Up For Leelah Alcorn on CBS’s ‘The Talk’

On the American TV show ‘The Talk’, the panel discussed the tragic topic of trans* teen suicide, which they all handle with much care and passion. However, it was openly gay co-host Sara Gilbert words that touched us the most…

“I would just say to people out there who have different beliefs … just think it’s more important to let go of the idea that you have a son, than to lose your child.”

Sara Gilbert

On the 29th December, Leelah Alcorn was struck and killed by a passing semi-trailer on an Ohio interstate. A suicide note later appeared on her Tumblr blog. The suicide note described how she had felt “like a girl trapped in a boy’s body” since she was four, and how her parents pushed her into conversion therapy and Christian counseling.

The Youth Suicide Prevention Program reports that over 50 percent of transgender youths have attempted to commit suicide at least once before reaching the age of 20.

‘I Am Who I Am, You Should Get Over It’ – A Trans* Youth’s Path to Self-Acceptance.

‘I’m from Driftwood’ is a collection of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer video stories from all over the world.

“I Am Who I Am, You Should Get Over It”

Alex Williams

Alex Williams, from Philadelphia, is a trans* teen on a path to self-acceptance.

However, despite having a mother who is unaccepting, Alex finds his source of strength from his girlfriend and a support system at school.

A Trans Youth’s Story of Self-Acceptance

This is Alex’s story…

I’m Alex Williams. I’m from Philadelphia.

Growing up, I was raised very, very, like, Christian, just strict, like, down-your-throat kind of Christian religion. Before you can even walk or talk, the number one thing I think that was like, preached to you was like, “Okay, homosexuality is wrong. This is wrong, this is wrong.” So from an early age I knew that like, “Okay, this is wrong, this is wrong.” But growing up, I started to find my way, and just like, have my own kind of identity.

Ninth grade, I come out as bisexual, just to put my foot out there a little bit. And then tenth grade hits, and I just realized, like, I’m not bisexual. Obviously, I like girls, so then I started to begin accepting myself. I believe it was January, like, 2nd, after New Year’s, my mom goes through my Facebook and my iPod, and she sees that I made a new Facebook and I was open on that Facebook. And then she just started going crazy, and she started to just give me the whole Bible and I was crying and she was crying and it was very emotional. She called my girlfriend, and was like, “Oh, y’all can’t be together. You have to break up. It’s done.” And I called my grandma, and was crying for my grandma to come over. I thought my grandma could save me, but it got worse, because my grandma started to come with the Bible and everything, so it was just really bad.

I wasn’t allowed to go out with my friends. I wasn’t allowed to have a phone. I had to come straight home. I wasn’t allowed to do anything. It was just basically, I’m being punished for who I am.

And March comes along, and this is a bad day. I don’t know, it was just a bad day. I get home, and me and my mom get into it about the situation. And my mom sends me away to Belmont. I love going there, because I felt like it was a break from everything, and I didn’t have to worry about anything, and it so happens that it was on Spring Break or something, so I didn’t have to worry about school. So it was a perfect opportunity just to worry about me, and just to focus on me and what’s going on. And I have better coping skills. And there, I did group. I did individual therapy. My parents and family visited, and there I felt like I was brave enough to stand up to them. So one visit, they came, and something happened, and they brought up the conversation of my girlfriend, and then I just was like, “You know what? It is what it is. I have a girlfriend. You should get over it. I am who I am.” And it was just a big fight, and I ended up storming out, and just running out and going into my room and closing my door. And I was happy, because they couldn’t go back there. Basically, I felt like I was protected. And then I was in there for I think almost two weeks, and I got out.

I live with my grandmom currently, and my grandmom isn’t as bad as my mom, but my grandmom is trying to be more understanding, and she’s trying to be not as controlling as my mom. And that’s a good thing. I can live in that environment. I feel like with my mom, I can’t live in that environment. I mean, recently, there have been situations, because recently I’ve come out as trans*, but my family doesn’t know that, but my school does and my friends do. It’s more like a support system, and my mom still has this controlling thing that she has. She tries to control every aspect of my life, even though I don’t live with her or anything. So it was still like a daily struggle.

I actually saw her today, and we had a big falling out today, because she said that my girlfriend is not allowed to come to my graduation. She was like, “I don’t want to see that. I don’t want to see that lifestyle.” I said, “Well, you might as well say you don’t want to see me, because she’s going to be there, and whether you’re there, that’s fine. But she’s going to be there.” She’s been there since day one. We’ve been going out for two years, and she’s my support system. She’s like my backbone, and anytime I have an argument with my mom or my grandmom, I know that the first call I’m going to make is to her. And we talk a lot and she supports me, and she helps me. Like, if I’m having a bad day, she’ll help me cope or anything. She’s my coping skill.

When I was in Belmont, we were in group, and we were talking about what do you live for, and what do you want your future to be. And then, in that group, I just realized that because of who I am right now, that doesn’t mean I have to cut my life short. And I realized that I just need to keep going, and no matter what, that I’m on this Earth for a reason. I’m this way for a reason. And I just wanted to live. I finally just wanted to live.

Hitting the Festival Circuit in 2015 ‘Sugarhiccup’ – a Short Film From Lisa Donato and Fawzia Mirza

There is a new first short film set for the 2015 film festival circuit, which you should keep on your radar.

We are all aware troubles of digital communication and digital miscommunication can cause; especially when you get caught in between. A Facebook status update that leaves you questioning why, a text cut short – no smiles or kisses.

We fill in the meaning, and we over analyze the gaps. So it’s with a smile on our faces that we look forward to watching this short film by writer and director Lisa Donato.

Staring Fawzia Mirza and Nikki Caster, ‘Sugarhiccup’ is one woman’s misperception of reality and over analyzation of incomplete information, which results in her subsequent coming apart at the seams. A satire on our digital world, the film looks at how we are easily susceptible to blurring the lines between truth and perception. It’s a story about how nonsensical data, social media, and distrust can all lead to destructive decision-making.

Mary Lambert Discusses ‘Same Love’, And Gay Rights

Singer-Songwriter Mary Lambert is known for collaborating with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis on’Same Love’. She has gone on to release a solo EP “Welcome to the Age of My Body.”

Mary-Lambert-06

In interview with ABC News she had the following to say ‘Same Love’…

“I knew that I wanted the chorus to speak to a universal truth.  There were a lot of thoughts I had when I was writing the song, and one of them was ‘How can I end homophobia?’”

Mary Lambert

‘Same Love’ quickly took off as an anthem for marriage equality and gay rights.

“If you depict a real relationship or the beauty of attraction or first love – that resonates with anybody.  But if you are constantly shoving down people’s throats, this idea that lesbians only roll around in lingerie, instead of like, you know lay around and watch Netflix and eat Cheez-Its together…  As soon as the exoticism goes away, then you’re stripped down with a real human element and that’s love and I wanted to create something that … fit that vision of first love.”

Mary Lambert

Mary Lambert’s musical style blends spoken word poetry with piano and traditional vocals. Through her music she’s explores dark subject matters, like abuse and suicide.

“Coming out of my late teens into my early 20s, there was a lot that still needed to be processed in terms of abuse and trauma.  And even when I’m in a really great, steady and stable place … I’m clinically bipolar, so that always exists — a darkness always exists.”

Mary Lambert

She feels that the new album covers a different range of emotions and topics than her previous songs and poems due to the whirlwind year of success that she’s had.

“My life is going at the speed of light, so it’s a lot of just trying … to be present in each moment … Giving each situation and each part of life that space and making sure that it’s sacred in every aspect. I’ve had an incredible year so the music will undoubtedly reflect that.”

So, What is the Fitting Room Policy for Transgenders in Major Retail Store?

Having a salesperson refuses to serve you, or asks you for your license is bad enough, but being denied access to a fitting room because you don’t look the norm is rather sh*tty and pretty de-humanising, especially if its due to your gender not being the norm.

After transgender woman Kylie Jack was refused access to a female dressing room at a local retailers, Styleite decide to find out what were high street retailer (H&M, Urban Outfitters, Zara, Victoria’s Secret, Forever 21, and American Apparel) official policy on fitting room access for different gender identities (be it for transgender, butch females or studs).

See below for their responses.

H&M

Transgender people are the same as everyone else, you can take your things to the women’s area or the men’s. All of the fitting rooms are unisex, like there will be a fitting room on the men’s floor, but anyone can change. There’s a women’s fitting room by the women’s clothing, but anyone can try on clothes there.”

Urban Outfitters

If you’re transgender, it doesn’t matter. Anyone can go into either of the fitting rooms, like we have a men’s floor fitting room, but people use whichever one they want. That’s our official policy, anyone can try on in the men’s or women’s areas, anyone.”

Zara

No, if you want to go to try some clothes, you are not able to do that. If a man wants to go, no we don’t allow that. It’s because that’s our policy, we don’t allow men to try some clothes, and vice versa for women.” If the ‘man’ identifies as a woman? [After a hold….] “You can talk to the manager. if you have any issue or concern, you can go to the customer service department.”

American Apparel

If you’re transgneder, there’s absolutely no problem, you can change. A man or a woman can go to the fitting rooms, they wouldn’t have to be concerned. We’re not one of those stores. You can be perfectly comfortable if you choose to try anything on. We would help you.”

Forever21

In most stores, there aren’t women’s or men’s fitting rooms, the fitting rooms are for both men and women. If someone’s transgender, yeah that’s totally fine, yeah it’s totally… there’s no preference. If someone wants to try on clothes you can try them on. There’s no discrimination against anybody.”

Victoria’s Secret

Well because sometimes, women feel uncomfortable, it would have to be more on the side to make sure other women aren’t there feeling uncomfortable, but we could allow it [a transgender woman or man changing.] It really depends on the management and how people feel, but it should be fine, you would just have to ask the manager.”

Welcome to Addicted to Straight Girls Anonymous – Vegan Cookies, Texting and Flipping

For some lesbians, a straight girl isn’t just practical (OMG there are so many of them), it’s desirable.

It’s an ego boost to flip / bed a straight girl – but the straight girl attraction can be a rocky road. Yes, your ego is boosted by dating someone of a different sexuality. However, a straight-girl fling is usually a short-term thing.

Watch this funny video from the Gay Women Channel ‘Addicted to Straight Girls Anonymous’.

Meet ‘The Dudleys’, Saturday Night Live’s Alternative Sitcom Family

Meet the Dudleys! There’s Mrs. Dudley, Mr. Dudley, and their two loving daughters. Actually its Mr. Dudley, Mr. Dudley, and their two loving daughters. No, now it Mr. Dudley, a new alternative Mr. Dudley (this is getting confusing). Oh and is that Crazy Eyes from ‘Orange is the New Black’?

Meet-The-Dudleys-01

Guest starring Woody Harrelson, Uzo Aduba, and Saturday Night Live team, the sketch takes the Mickey out Twitter feedback and token representation. Parodying the network changes to a traditional sitcom to appeal to online complaints. The sketch lampoons stereotypical sitcoms, cynical business decisions, Twitter, and even snail mail.

However, when it receives so many makeovers that it is completely unrecognisable as the show it started out as, it then receives complaints from narrow-minded, homophobic idiots, and we are back to square one.

BBC’s Childrens Channel to Show Key Documentary About a Trans Teen

The BBC plans to air a documentary about a transgender teen on one of it children’s TV channel next week.

Titled ‘My Life: My Name Is Leo’, the TV programme will follow Leo, a 13-year-old boy, telling his story, and how he encountered bullying from people who could not accept who he is.

The film is set across seven months, following Leo and his family as he undergoes hormone therapy, meeting other trans kids, and eagerly waiting for a new passport that confirms his real identity to the world.

Executive producers, Kez Margrie told BBC’s in house magazine Ariel.

‘I had wanted to do a story on a transgender child for a while, because I know there are kids out there having a tough time. But up to now, we hadn’t found the right story to tell, and we trusted Nine Lives Media to tell this one sensitively. It feels very much like his journey and story, as told by him.’

Katherine Heigl’s Lesbian Wedding Movie to Make it to the Big Screen

Katherine Heigl’s gay marriage film ‘Jenny’s Wedding’, is set to be picked up by a distributor at the American Film Market.

The lesbian feature tells the story of Jenny (played by Katherine Heigl), who has led an openly gay life – except with her conventional family. When she finally decides to start a family of her own and marry the woman they thought was just her roommate, her family’s world will be turned upside down.

The film – written and directed by Mary Agnes Donoghue (Beaches, White Oleander, and Deceived) – recently attracted attention for launching a crowdfunding campaign for completion funds. Fans pledged $96,000 towards post production costs via a campaign on indiegogo.

Donoghue said the production wrapped in Cleveland last year, however post production has only recently been completed thanks to the fundraising efforts of fans who helped raise the money for the films final grading, sound mix and titles.

The director says she didn’t make ‘Jenny’s Wedding with the intention of it being a blockbuster hit. She is telling the story of her niece, also named Jenny, who came out to her sister and told her that she wanted to marry a woman. This film is chronicling the journey that they went through together as a family and the personal courage it took Jenny, as well as each of her family members, to live outside of their comfort zone and explore a new world together in order to come back together as a family.

“There is a Jenny in my life and family but this really isn’t her story, but the people who inspired the story have told me that they felt that we had captured them in the film.”

Mary Agnes Donoghue

Donoghue is hopeful that Heigl’s increased profile (thanks to the pick up ofher new TV series State of the Nation by NBC), will bode well for a cinema release of Jenny’s Wedding.
